Yes, talking with a friend..or exercise!

Exercise can be great. When I come out of TKD, I don't care what was wrong, it isn't wrong anymore!

Thats why I picked to STOP skipping my TKD class, for next months healthy habit. But hopefully it will tip the scales and I'll start losing weight. If not, over the next couple of months I bet I do!

If you won't take time for your health, who will?

I am STRUGGLING with emotional eating all this week. I am feeling really overwhelmed and discouraged with a lot of things and I am eating out of control, can't seem to get a handle on it. What to do about it? I think try to get my life in order and I won't NEED to emotionally eat so much but in the meantime....?

Today I am starting a "food journal", not to keep track of what I eat as much as to keep track of WHY I am eating it. I'm going to include time, emotional state, how hungry i am on the hunger-o-meter, plus what I ate and how much of it. I am going to learn to STOP this emotional eating!!!

Thats great. I had a good stress free day too.

If I get upset I go straight for sweets, sometimes don't even realize I'm upset until I'm already eating them

emotional eating is so difficult....whatever goes on in my life..makes for stress and panic ..and a heck of a reason to eat...
I have been on so many diets...have lost and re-gained...but losing the weight is the easy part...keeping it off is the real job...
I'm 60 and I have been dieting since I was 12yrs. old...
I have to fix the inside first.....before the outside will stay repaired... emoticon

This is true, and last month we didn't do so hot. Maybe it would be better to aim for a week, what do you think Spaarta?

This month, we need to plan our meals ahead then stick with the plan, and before we eat say a prayer or poem or whatever that addresses the fact that we are eating to nourish and nurture our bodies. This is the lead-in to next months challenge, which will be to start taking control of emotional eating, so try to make it a solid habit!

Cool beans. That sounds like "eating mindfully" which is something I want to do too!

Also, don't forget to get geared up for our first month long challenge which will be to plan meals ahead of time and then follow the meal plans.

We're going to aim for 8 days successful with a potential 2 days off--out of every 10 days.

Basically that means next month (April, which is 30 days) we should plan and stay with the meal plan at least 24 days with a possible 6 days of not doing it. That will equal 80% of the time "on-track".

I'm betting on both of us losing 5 to 8 lbs or more, for the month!

For overcoming emotional eating:
Today, I slowed down enough to really taste the organic blueberries and strawberries in my bowl. They were really good.

In the past, I have done a taste test with tasting organic versus regular (with apples, strawberries, and blueberries). And there really is a difference. the organic are sweeter and the color is richer. (also, I tried this on sweet potatoes).

If you get the chance, try it with one organic apple and one regular apple (or other fruit). Unless you have access to a good farmer's market produce available, then I would think the fruit would be superior to store bought.

I tracked my food and mood on one day, and then forgot the next. I really like that we have a focus for April, this will help me stay on track.

April's goal is to plan our meals and track our food everyday. Just planning ahead will make us more aware of what we are putting into our bodies! My personal challenge will be to then FOLLOW the meal plans I make!

I am thinking if we focus on an issue each month, it will have time to "cement" into habit. After a year we would have a dozen healthy habits established.

ooohhh these are so important!

This is a place for activities and goals that will help us all develop healthier relationships with food. Some of the challenges I have planned are:

1. journaling about WHY you are eating, BEFORE you eat.

2. a self affirming Hindu meal prayer or a similar prayer of your choice

3. eating mindfully

4. focusing on fullness

5. changing your comfort foods

6. other suggestions?

I have tracked food intake off and on. What I need to be is consistent and just do it. I have only tracked "calories" for one week and then stopped because I found that the things I eat and when and how much were difficult to quantitate into calories. But at least it gave me an eye opener about mindless eating. I work at home as a medical transcriptionist, and eat throughout the day. I really think if I set times to eat and actually sat down and slowed down, it would help.

I am definitely going to start writing down what, when, and why about my food intake. I do like to eat healthy. I think this is a good FIRST step!

I think the very FIRST step is to get in the habit of tracking EVERYTHING we eat.
I'm going to do my best to do this, even the bad stuff.
A lot of days, going way under the calorie goal is as big a problem as going over it, because we have to meet our nutrient goals! A lot of really obese ppl are malnourished!

From here on, my mission is to TRACK my food!
My problem is that if I don't eat "well", I don't want to track.
Another problem I have is that I make the meal plans, but then fail to follow them.

Do you have any problems with tracking?
