Finding a place to work where you enjoy working can be difficult and even in best situations there will be problems. The most important thing is that you find something that is going to be rewarding for you. I have a degree in education and psychology, and masters in mental health counseing. When I went back to school I thought I really wanted to teach, but God had other plans for me. In our area and it may be true other places you have to know someone to get a job in the school system. The board member we knew didn't get re-appointed when I graduated from college so I couldn't get a job. I finally figured I would use my degree in psy. God knows what he is doing. I love working with the mentally ill. I couldn't have done nursing but I get to be in the ER and assess individuals with MH problems. I could go on and on, but pray about it and it will happen for you. Again best of luck!
Okay - no nursing shortage - that's funny, because all of the travel companies are still hiring like crazy, and headhunters email me a lot. I think that they are just saying that to keep from having to offer the packages (pay, benefits, etc) that they know are competitive. Talk to the travel companies and see what's out there. Being a nurse is so much fun - I can't even tell you how much I love my job!!!! I wish you a ton of success and happiness!!
Thanks! Luckily my fiance is in a job where he can move easily and he is willing to go if I can't find a job here. For some reason I think it is tough to find good jobs where I am. We keep having reps from hospitals come to talk to us and they keep saying that they are not having a nursing shortage and they aren't really hiring so they may or may not take us. It is like they are trying to scare us.

on almost finishing nursing school! I had student nurses from our local college in my program today. We are the facility they use for mental health rotations. I know it is a difficult profession and I greatly respect all our nurses, doctors and other professionals out there. I wish you the best of luck and hope you get that job in O.B.

I am Renee from upstate NY. I have been a registered nurse for 18+ years. I work in a small rural hospital. Right now I am back on med/surg. I was on med/surg the first time for 10 years, then went to OB for 8 years. The only reason I am back on med/surg is because they closed our OB unit due to decreaed pt load. I also float to ICU and in the Supervisors office when needed. Anyway, I am glad to meet you all.
