Another one from Kim Komando:

Cut your prescription costs

www.medtipster.com/search.php

Many people have made budget cuts lately; the economy demands it. Giving up little luxuries to which we've become accustomed can be difficult.

But some things cannot be cut. For example, you don't want to stop taking your prescription drugs.

That doesn't mean you can't save on your drugs. And I have just the site that will help you!

Medtipster will help you compare prices on prescription drugs in your area. It will also help you find suitable generics and alternative therapies. You'll need to talk to your doctor about these, of course.

The comparison tool is enough to qualify Medtipster as a Cool Site. But it does so much more than that.
It will also help you find mini clinics, immunizations and health screenings!

AS a health care professional who is presently too ill to work I have found myself in the position of being very sick without insurance.

All of your information is helpful - thanks! ANd I have a few things to add:

1-talk to the hospital's billing department. Many will set up payment plans, some will lower charges, some even have charity care. Don't be afraid to ask.

2- Check out the website for the partnership for prescription assistance. I get 2 meds from there I couldn't afford otherwise (one is around $1800/dose!)

3- Before making dr appts be sure to tell them you are self pay. Ask about payment plans, ask the dr about reduced fees..mine charges me for nurse visits-far cheaper than dr visit charges.

4- Wal-mart has cheap scripts, but Costco is REALLY cheap and they DO NOT require you to be a member to use their pharmacy! When you see the greeter at the door, show them your Rx or pill bottle & say you're using the pharmacy. It's their corporate policy. I get my Ambien (generic) for $15 there, it's $120 at the drugstore!!

HTH - Best of health to everyone!

Stay calm and carry on.

Here's another tip from Kim Komando...she's been really focusing on finances, hard times and resources that are available:

Find free eye exams

You work hard and pay your bills. But sometimes you need a little help getting by.

Maybe your employer doesn't provide vision insurance. Or, maybe you don't qualify because you work part-time.

VISION USA is here to help! It provides free basic eye health services for those who are uninsured and low-income.

Eligibility requirements vary from state to state. But, generally, one member of your household must be working. You cannot have had an eye exam in two years.

To get started, complete an application. You'll be matched with a volunteer doctor of optometry.

You'll pay nothing for your eye exam. And, in some states, you may receive eyeglasses at no cost or for a small fee.

Know someone who could benefit from VISION USA? Forward this newsletter to them now! They'll appreciate the extra help.

Thanks Don,

I have a 22 yr old and he can not be on my insurance because he is not in college so if anything happens to him I have to pay out the wahzoo!!! I am currently paying off a 700 dollar bill for him for an orthoped. extracting fluid from his knee! Something I probably could have done myself! So if I can tap into this it sure would help. The same with him and his glasses, he needs new ones and I feel bad because I have to wait to pay off one bill before I can start another.....

Enjoy life to the "nth" power! If you have goals and aspirations set forth to do them now. Life is too short. Like Nike says...."Just Do It"

Procrastination is not an option. Never say never. Tomorrow is not promised to us. Enjoy!! As my cousin says...."Do you"!!!

As healthcare professionals, I'm sure many of us come across uninsured people either in our work or personal lives. There have been other resources for the uninsured posted here before, so I'll add yet one more to keep in mind, courtesy of Kim Komando ( www.komando.com )

Help with health care

Nothing is as important as yours and your family's health. But many Americans lack health coverage.

If you don't have insurance, you don't need to forego medical care. There are plenty of places to turn for help.

I recommend that you start at today's Cool Site. Just select your state. Then, click on your city.

You'll get a list of clinics in your area. All of the clinics offer free or discounted care.

Click on a clinic's name to learn more about it. You'll find the address and phone numbers. There's also a brief description of the services offered.

The listings aren't limited to medical care. Some also provide dental care.

If you have friends or family who lack health insurance, do them a favor. Forward this newsletter to them now.
