Good luck with your healing process. I know it's extrememly hard to work 12 hour shifts when you aren't feeling well. For that matter, it can be hard when you are feeling well.

RN like yourself, but I apparently tore the meniscus in my right knee. How is the pain? Is it sharp or dull? Is it worse with alot of walking? Do you feel lateral movement in the knee joint? If your knee feels wobbly or feels like it has lateral movement, it might be the meniscus. I don't know when I tore mine, but I knew it was bothering me and felt a constantly dull ache unless I used it alot. Then it hurt. I was fortunate that in my insurance approved the MRI first since we were certain nothing was broken. The ortho did x-rays as well after the MRI was done, just to make sure for arthritis and such, but I am scheduled for arthroscopic surgery next Thursday, and he says I will only be out of exercising for a week.

Good luck to you.

I could not make an appt next week due to travel plans already set. So they made it for the following week. Wish I could have made the appt. a week ago when I first went to my PCP! Now I will most likely have to be a lot less active during vacation!

Glad you've made headway on dxing and treating the problem. Why do you have to wait so long for the MRI? Fingers crossed for a quick recovery -- and not too many middle of the night deliveries the next few days!

Wish I had access to a pool! I used to be an avid distance swimmer! Doc recommended resting the knee for a few days. Hard to do when my L&D unit is busy. But will stay off elliptical for the weekend. Boo. I was on a roll too!

UPDATE: Got that ortho consult and have just gotten home from appmnt. That was fast. It helps to be a squeaky wheel I guess. Orhto doc believes I have a torn meniscus....he ordered the MRI. Now I have to wait a couple weeks for the MRI! Still planning on working tonight. Will probably rest the leg a bit and not do elliptical for a couple days especially since I will be walking so much at work.
I was glad to hear that it probably wasn't the ACL!

We are definitely going camping there on Monday through Friday next week! I'll let you know how it is. We thought the pics looked beautiful too. I just hope I'm not too laid up to fully enjoy.

Letchworth?!?!

I'm so jealous!! Have never been there before, but had a personal goal of SOMEHOW getting there by the end of this summer, the pictures look so wonderful! Now it doesn't look like that will be possible. But who knows? I had thought about hiking, however it's GREAT to hear that biking is feasible too! You are tempting me to SOMEHOW, by hook or crook to GET THERE! :-)

I have given that some thought as well...regarding aggravating the problem with the elliptical.

The hospital I work at is well-known for it's orthopedic program. When my second son needed their services, they encouraged mobility as opposed to immobilizing. I know I should get to the bottom of what is actually going on in that joint first though. I'm trying. Just waiting for office hours to start so I can make more phone calls.

I may not be able to do much exercising today anyway based on how it is feeling right now.

Thanks for your sympathies and prayers. It means alot. I was hoping to cycle around Letchworth State Park next week too!

I am so sorry to hear of your injury. I am an RN also working in hemodialysis, so I dont really know anything about such injuries. But I woukd think that you should be very careful with what you are doing in case that you make it worse. Take care

I think injuries have become one of my most dreaded fears as I continue to reclaim my health and wellness...ugh! You SO have my sympathies and prayers!

While I've been LOVING my bicycling lately, I can't help but cringe over the thought of falling and injuring myself...especially when whizzing down major hills. The fear hasn't stopped me, but certainly gives me occasional pause for thought!

I wonder about the elliptical aggravating your condition...? I'd hate to see you prolong your recovery...GL with your PCP!

Two weeks ago I danced for hours at my firstborn son's wedding. The next morning I experienced severe knee pain...which doesn't seem to be getting better. Family doc wanted to get MRI, but Ins Co. denied MRI and only approved an x-ray instead. I know nothing is broken, so x-ray was a waste of time. I am thinking I may have an anterior or posterior cruciate ligament problem or a torn meniscus! Don't think those show on regular x-ray. Any xray techs out there? Maybe you could shed some light on this.

So here I am, can't even roll over in bed without sharp pain and I have to work the next three 12 hour night shifts on a busy Labor and Delivery unit as an RN! I am really frustrated! Need prayer. I plan to call family doc to try to expedite resolving problems with insurance company.

I have continued to work out with elliptical trainer daily...it bothers me somewhat but not enough to prevent my work out. Twisting the knee is what causes pain so elliptical has just helped with mobility.
