That sounds like a good possiblity. The spine can do some crazy stuff to the rest of the body when it (the spine) gets out of whack.

Still, keep us updated on how things progress. I hope you'll be back up to speed soon!

Stay calm and carry on.

Well, my doc reminded me of a pinched nerve / bulging disc I had in my lower spine back in my heavier days. This had caused some weakness in the same leg. Physical therapy and weight loss seemed to pretty much take care of the problem. His thought is to double check that there isn't anything acting up in the spine...so it's off for an X-ray I go. Nothing conclusive yet.

I did the 'mill today without a prob, but scaled it back a bit on the speed. I'll be experimenting with my 'mill settings and see how it goes.

Thx again for all your thoughts!

Seeing the doc tomorrow...will keep you all posted on how it goes.

Quad stretches before and after have always been part of my regimen.

Thx for all your thoughts and pats-on-the-back!

Make sure that you are stretching before you begin this vigorous activity otherwise you are going from 0 to 60 too rapidly, so to speak....good luck!!!!

I was on a similar routine when, my to the side of my right knee, started hurting and then swelling. It go so I couldn't walk 'cause I kept exercising gently on the 'mill. MRI showed I had fractured the tib and fib just from the pulling of the tendons on bone! GET IT LOOKED AT!

Hamstrings, no prob...right quad, no prob...

I did not use the treadmill yesterday and it does feel better. Watching my food intake as I know I have to be careful without having the cardio to burn it up! Lost another 5 pounds this week, woo hoo!

My biggest concern now, once rested and feeling better is: will my quad act up again once I hit the 'mill? If so, how to avoid this? The incline has been a steady thing for me, nothing new. That's the thing that confounds me...there have been no major changes in my workout, just a slow steady bumping up of speed and teensy bit on incline.

Will keep you all posted...

Does it hurt all the time or just during/after your workout? Is it crampy or sharp? Did it start suddenly or has is gradually increased? Depending on a lot of factors, treatment could vary. Can you be more specific?

I had something like that happen. It was for only one step, but I turned my left leg funny and the next thing I knew my Achilles tendon on my left leg was killing me! If it just happened I would definitely ice the area to reduce swelling and to prevent it from getting worse. Other than that rest and some heat therapy. Stretching of course is good but be gentle. Some light massage on the area but nothing rough, basically the massage will help increase bloodflow to the area to help speed healing and to relax the muscles. And of course drink plenty of water because any injury big or small requires water to heal :-)

Hey all, I have a problem:

For the first time in my year plus regimen of daily treadmill use, I'm having pain which I can only attribute to my workouts.

Just wanted to run this by you all to see if anyone has "been there, done that."

Let me describe my treadmill use over the past year:

Started with 20-25 mins. daily at around 2.5 mph and bumped it up through the year to 35 mins. daily during the week, 60 - 90 mins. daily on weekends with speed increasing to 4 to 5 mph (jogging on occasional faster songs). Incline has gone from 5% to 6% and occasional bump ups between 7 - 10%.

I do quadriceps stretches before and after my workouts.

The pain I'm having is in the left quadriceps...very localized in the front of my thigh, about a third of the way down from the hip to the knee. The quad stretches really intensify the pain...I only do them lightly, thinking I can stretch this out. There is not a trace of any pain in my right quad.

Any / all ideas, suggestions greatly welcomed! I'm thinking of seeing my primary care doc to run it by him. For now, I think I've got to back off the treadmill use.

I'm hoping to get over this within the next week or so as I'm going out of town, staying at a hotel with a great workout / fitness room that I had planned to use a lot!

Thx all!
