I would like to see time spent exercising. I am not logging lots of miles because I'm still recovering from knee surgery, so I'm going slower and relying on elliptical and tread climber -- not treadmill.
Just a thought.
Maybe we could track consistency - how many days a week we keep our goals for exercise or habits?

Great job Don! I think exercise is the key. I always do much better when I take the time to do some kind of exercise. Just have to make myself!!!

Lost 2.4 pounds this week! Again because I am exercising. Coming out of the firt few weeks of feeling bad -getting all the junk out of my system. More energy and feeling like I want to exercise!! Weird!!
Have a great day everyne!!!

I can and will suceed today! Brenda

Just a head's up that I will close this thread on 2/1 and start up a February challenge under my newly created "Challenges" category.

Hello. I know I would be starting late and new to the team. But better late than never. My goal will be 5 pounds to keep it attainable by Feb. 14th and my goal is to be on my elliptical 3 x a wk at least and lift weights. I have registered to do a 5k (first ever) on april 26th and have a long way to go. Long term I do want to be able to do a triathlon one day.

Just a heads up to everyone:

I've created a "Challenges" Forum and will be closing this challenge at the end of the month and starting up our February challenge under this newly created "Challenges" Forum.

I'm open to any ideas regarding challenges which we might enjoy tackling...so put your thinking caps on and offer your feedback regarding upcoming challenges for us health care professionals!

Be sure, however to post these ideas under our new "Challenges" forum.

Thanks to all!

Well today is the second of the challenge for me. Yesterday I was able to walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes; do the precor for 55 and finish with the reclining bike for 35. This morning I wanted to repeat the exercises but the power was off here when my alarm went off so I rolled over and attempted to go back to sleep. Darn it came back on 2 minutes later. Up and off to the gym but they were closed due to the power outage. Hit the track instead for a swift 2 mile walk. Want to commit to going back to the gym tonight. Once I'm home its really hard to get the motivation to go back out again. I don't have anyone to keep me motivated but this group is sure the next best thing. I've reread all the great encouragement. Its 6:03 here and I'm going to commit to heading out at 6:45 for 30 minutes on the precor. I'll also do my strengh excises.

emoticon Everyone is doing so great!

My weight goal is to lose 5 pounds by February 14.

My exercise goals are to do 60 minutes of cardio 3 days/week and 90 minutes of cardio 2 days/week. Do 3 clases at the gym.

Hi everyone,

Just reporting in for the week:

I weighed in tonight and I'd lost 1.75 since last Tuesday.

I did four days at Curves last week (plus one hour of horseback riding and two of grooming)

Encouraging word(s): Positive recreation

Love,
Deb

I love challenges. I would like to lose 10lbs by Feb 8. I'm attending a retirement ceremony in NY and need to fit into my dress uniform. I will do cardio for 45 minutes every day and strength exercises every other day. Have to watch the calories also. Been doing okay but today the heat is on because of a big inspection next week. I find when the stress increases I'm really drawn to sugar. Trying to find a way to keep out of that bowel. emoticon

Today was the first time I exercised since 911. I remember doing sit ups in front of the TV watching the Today Show and saw the plane hit the World Trade Tower. 30 minutes per day and strength training every other day is the goal. Anything is better than nothing and I plan on logging it every day too. No matter what happens I will log on to Spark and log the good the bad and the ugly, as well as the successes.

The meniscus was secondary to a fall. I am wondering if it's cuz this is the first real exercise I have done in months.

I am a speech/language pathologist at a nursing home.

Did this meniscus injury occur naturally or non natural? If natural then you might have bad knees. So your problem is following the next knee. What is your occupation?

Its about cardio and resistance training...make sure you watch what goes in your mouth. You might want to be at 1200 to 1500 calories a day.

Does anyone know why my knees, not my muscles, are hurting from walking? I changed shoes yesterday, hoping that will help (our PT suggested that). Right now I am icing the knees in preparation for the gym. I did have a torn meniscus repair last March, but it's the other knee that really is sore. Tuesday, I could barely walk after having done a 3 mile walk. At least it is not as sore as Tuesday, today. But good grief, I used to be able to run 5k's. It is so irritating.

Wanted to give you an update. I have kept to my water every day. I have exercised at least 10 minutes, daily. I have kept in calorie range since Tuesday all days, except last night. I went out to eat and blew it, but I did spend an hour at the gym!

My scale shows that I am down to 196. That is a 2.8 lb loss!!!!

Have a great weekend, all.

I would like to lose 10 pounds by the 14th. I think fitness wise I just want to reach my weekly goals up to that point. I am new to all of this so I just want to get started on the right foot with strength and aerobic. I was doing good for about a year and then had a lot of changes in my life and spiraled out of control so I am once again way out of shape. I hope to get back where I need to be soon!

How about if we keep coming back here and posting our daily successes? I've been doing this for other teams in a format like the following, but do what works for you. When you return, rather than posting a new post each day and making this thread a zillion miles long, it works better if folks can just edit their existing post to include updated successes.

Jan. 1 - 3.7 miles / 60 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 2 - 2.2 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 3 - 2.9 miles / 45 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 4 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 5 - 3.7 miles / 60 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 6 - 6.2 miles / 60 mins. treadmill
Jan. 7 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 8 - 2.3 miles / 36 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 9 - 2.3 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 10 - 2.3 miles / 35 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 11 - 3.1 miles / 55 mins. treadmill
Jan. 12 - 4.1 miles / 62 mins. treadmill & 30 mins. elliptical & strength-building with weight machines.
Jan. 13 - 3.9 miles / 61 mins. treadmill. Also 31 mins. on elliptical (around 3600 strides)
Jan. 14 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 15 - 2.5 miles / 40 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 16 - 2.9 miles / 45 mins. treadmill

Jan. 18 - 2.5 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 19 - 3.5 miles / 52 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands

Jan. 21 - 4.1 miles / 60 mins. treadmill
Jan. 22 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands
Jan. 23 - 2.9 miles / 43 mins. treadmill
Jan. 24 - 2.4 miles / 35 mins. treadmill
Jan. 25 - A Day of R-E-S-T !
Jan. 26 - 4.1 miles / 60 mins. treadmill & strength-building with dumb bells and resistance bands

“There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results.”

When you get to a plateau, think of it as a landing on the stairway to your goal. And maintenance is a lifelong plateau, so a bit of "rehearsal" for maintenance isn't the worst thing in the world

I always like a good challenge:)
Ok...lets see...
-I will plan to lose 10 pounds by the 2/14.
-I'm in for the sit-ups even if I can't remember the last time I did a true sit-up (normally I do crunches)?
-I will also add push-ups to my regular workout...I don't like them, but they really workout my arms:)
-I'll up my workouts to 5 days a week of at least 40 minute workouts
-Positive thought...I will think more positive about my physical image.

Best of luck everybody:)

I'm in!

1.Set a goal of pounds you want to loose by Febuary 14th - My goal to hit 220. that's 15 pounds

2.Since I need to lose 15 pounds, lets go with 15 miles a week. I'll up it to 20 in 2 weeks, then maybe add something different, I'll change it periodicly.
3.I can't think of an encouraging word, but I'm going to keep telling myself that I CAN do this, FOR ME..

lovechocholate3,

I do downhill skiing 5 days each week. I do 2.5 or 3 hours of actual skiing and 2.5 hours sitting on a lift going up. I picked situps 1.) bacause they ARE hard for me to do and 2.) because when I fall skiing I have a hard time getting up and if I strengthen my abdominals maybe I'll be able to get up more gracefully and 3.) if I do situps in the evening maybe I wont feel like having a bedtime snack and will be able to lose the last 5 lbs I need to lose in order to reach my goal. Thanks for the input.

I'm in for 5 pounds -- if I reach it before I'll up my number.

Exercise goal -
1.)at least 10 minutes of cardio each day
2.)Some form of Arm exercise 3 days a week
3.)Some form of Leg exercise 3 days a week
4.)Some form of Ab exercise 4 days a week
5.)I intend to smile at least once during each class period. I teach PE and with the numbers I manage that is sometime a very hard thing!

Murkov, situps are hard, but you can surely lose 5 pounds by Feb. 14. That's 5+ weeks from now. Even if you lose 1.5 pounds per week, in five weeks that could even be 7 1/2 pounds.

Losing the weight will be easier than the sit ups. Do you also do brisk walking? Thirty minutes a day or a total of 120-150 minutes a week, that's terrific exercise. Why does it have to be situps? (Guess you can tell that I loathe situps.)

Good deal! I was thinking a challenge might be in order here...you beat me to it...lol.

I have been struggling to blow past 250 and keep my weight below that. The pounds have become more stubborn for me so I don't want to set my expectations TOO high, so how about 245 by Feb. 14. That's 12 pounds.

I already do my treadmill daily with a minimum of 35 mins. during the week and 50 to 96 mins. on Sat. Sun.

What I have been trying to do on weekday mornings is to bump up my treadmill routine to include more jogging so that I cover greater distance in the same amount of time. I have bumped up from 2.0 miles to 2.4 miles in 35 mins. Not sure what would be realistic to bump that up to by 2/14, but will continue to challenge myself upward!

I do strength training 3 x weekly with dumb bells and resistance bands, doing 2 sets of 12. Have been thinking of bumping that up to 3 sets of 12, so I'll throw that into my challenge also!

All right folks...let's go knock 'em down!

Would anyone be interested in a weight loss/exercise challenge? I'll keep track and tally our results!

Challenge
1.Set a goal of pounds you want to loose by Febuary 14th (example-14 pounds by Feb.14th)
2.Set up a goal for exercising (Example-starting today ,I will do 20 set ups and I will add one more each day)
3.Pick one encouraging word/thought to tell our clients each week (example-thoughtful, find, forgiving, helpful, compassionate ect)
4.Check in once a week with an update of how you are doing= your weight loss, are you doing your exercise goal, and your word/thought to share for the week

Good luck! Brenda

I can and will suceed today! Brenda
