I also enjoy the winter as well and love it to be cold. The winters here are so mild though that it is hard to get real cold weather like the AC cold. I hope you all have a good week breathing wise.

I do better in the colder weather which is also why I live for AC. Currently having to use the relief inhaler frequently in the humidity. The weather has been cooler than normal but very humid.

Thanks.. Unfortunately, Weather is one of those things we cannot change, so must adjust to it. Thank God for A/C, right? Do you have any relief in winter? In my case, I have as much trouble breathing cold air as I do hot humid air.
The pictures of your family/children are beautiful. Congratulations on a very lovely family. And bouncing back with the weight loss. Keep the spark glowing.. emoticon

Welcome to the team Mamasue and I too am also a type 2 diabetic and now controlling it with my diet after losing my weight. I still have tons more to go but feel better and controlling my blood pressure as well. Asthma is my hardest battle because of all the allergies I have but with my allergy shots I fair pretty well. I know all about the weather you battle as well. I live in Arkansas and the changes are awful for me and rely alot on my relief. I too am here anytime you need support and wish you all the best in reaching your goals.

Thanks Gracie.
I just finished reading your blogs and comments. I'm feeling that you must be doing better. At least you are taking one of the most important steps in getting over depression. Helping and encouraging others. And your words to me are just that...warm and encouraging. I pray that you are better and that if you need call on me as one of the group. And get out of that house. As lovely as our homes may be, they can become a prison....It looks like you have a wonderful family...draw from their strengths as well as your faith in God. Thank you... emoticon emoticon

I am still finding things of great importance to me on Spark's pages. One of them was this site, since I suffer from asthma and have a "touch" of COPD. Dr's description of my lung condition??
I have had asthma since I was two years old (now 62)along with many bouts of pneumonia throughout my childhood. I have never smoked so assume COPD is caused by the illnesses themselves.
Louisiana weather-mostly wet and humid-does make for bad conditions for anyone with asthma. Walking in it is very hard. I have to use my inhaler several times in the 30 minutes I walk. I use a spiro meter before I walk but still walk regardless of what it says. I have diabetes2, also, so I have to get this weight off me. So far I have done ok..thanks to the encouragement and stories I have read here. Great inspiration from all. Hope to get to know each and every one of you.
Gosh, I am rambling...should have made a blog!!!

I am really tired today as my asthma woke me up three times last night. I finally gave up and used my inhaler. If I had used it the first time I might have not awakened the other times. Chest pain is back today. I am really tired of all of this. emoticon

My allergist said I didn't have to use a spacer if I didn't want to and never have. I do get my medicine because I can feel it working that's for sure. I have not had to use my relief since having Sarah and doing pretty good. Just having trouble with headaches some now. Glad you doing better Kate and hang in there my friend.

I have a spacer too and probably should start using it more. Had some more issues this am with walking at a mild pace but it was a little humid. I don't like it just the same.

Actually after 3 years of having asthma I just recently got a spacer. The ER doctor gave me a long lecture about using a spacer, why it is important and why I need to carry one at all times. My doc skipped the lecture but did ask me what we needed to do so that I would always have my spacer with me. They say that not using it is like not getting any medicine. Not sure I believe that but willing to give this a try. Anything I can do to not repeat the ambulance ride! I am 200% better.

Hi everyone. I have been posting on How is your asthma treating you and not here. Oops. I just had a trip to the hospital. Yes the anxiety makes it worse. The doctors all say it is really hard to not have anxiety when you can't breath. She gave me good tips though. To decide if it is anxiety or asthma she said to ask yourself am I having more trouble breathing in (anxiety) or out (asthma). I also use a spacer with my inhaler and was surprised at what a difference it made. I don't get as hoarse.

I had the same problem with albuterol and they changed me to one called Xopenex which is not supposed to race the heart as much. I still am doing pretty good and got my release from my OB doctor today. My little one weighs 9 pounds 12 ounces and is doing great as well. Take care all and breathe easy.

I have been having increased asthma symptoms since Sunday. The rescue inhaler is working but I hate using it. It just makes my heart race and it increases my anxiety. Actually I think I am caught in a double whammy-as the anxiety gets worse the chance for an asthma attack seems to increase and then after I use the inhaler the anxiety just mounts. Does anyone else get anxious and/or have their heart race after using albuterol?? And of course it winds me up and I can't sleep either. Which is why I reserve it for use as little as possible. I am hoping to not have to use it anymore today so I can actually relax enough to get some sleep. But of course it seems to get worse at bedtime. Just can't win.

Hello,
I was diagnosed with asthma when I was about 13 years old. I can tell you air purifiers do work well in bedrooms. But most of them come with an ionizer which makes the dust go through the machine and what ever isn't caught in the filter is actually stuck on the walls as if it was full of electricity.
Which isn't bad, it is easier to clean. The filters can be washed.
If you get one, make sure that the filters are replaceable, the charcoal mesh is washable, the first few months you will be changing and cleaning it often. I hope I could be of some assistance.
Good Luck to you....
I bought mine from Sears and I have had it for about 6 years and still going strong. I also get coupons and wait for the item to go on sale.
What else helps for asthma is, putting the dust mite proof sleeves on the mattress( it covers the entire matress and has a zipper. They also come for pillows.
Have less items in the room like stuffed animals which are dust mite lovers.
see an alergist as well, I found out I was allergic to something stupid my fleece sheets were a huge magnet for dust mites. Although I wash them once a week they collect mites.Anyway I wash the sheets in hot soapy water along with an extra rince and it put my asthma attacks at bay.
Good Luck have an awesome day
Kell

Welcome to the team. I personally have not purchased and air filtration system so I do not know anything about good brands. But I do know they can be extremely helpful-especially if part of your asthma is triggered by allergens-especially dust and dust mites.

Hello everyone, I am writing on behalf of my daughter who has been recently diagnosed with asthma and I was wondering if anyone used an air purifer in their bedroom and what they thought about it? Is there a prefered brand name that works best? I have been trying to research it on-line but it seems very confusing to me.

Thanks so much for your help and suggestions!

It is cool here as well-59 at 10:18. It is supposed to be a tad warmer tomorrow at a high of 74. My asthma fortunately loves cool weather unless it is really humid but even though it is raining and cloudy it is not too bad on the humidity end of things. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

SO far, I have been feeling pretty good with the weather, but that is what really triggers me,, along with the molds and mites. TIme to steam clean the carpet again.. thankful I removed all of it except the living room and hallway..
Have not had to use rescue inhaler for weeks now!!

I too have trouble between evening and night. I usually need my Advair about 8:00 pm, then take a Singulair before bed and I am good to go until the next evening. We did not go to any fireworks displays..as they are held in a town about 16 mi away and we were not in the mood to fight the traffic...so had no problems with the smoke or anything.

Been off the prednisone for 3 months now. New dr has me on Advair and Singulair. Doing well with that and otc antihistamines for bad allergy stuff.

I also have problems at night as well. I keep my relief beside my bed as well to help me out when I get short of breath.

The humidity and temp are up here and having a little difficulty-especially at night if I've been out during the day. Which seems strange to me since the pharmacist said to take the singulair at night because most attacks happen in the morning. So just wondering if people have noticed if they are more likely to have an attack in the morning or evening?? I have always seemed to have more trouble at night as I recollect.

I didn't have to bad of a time. It was thick with smoke but we sat inside a vehicle and left pretty quickly after it was over so I did pretty good. The humidity has come back around here so next week might be a challenge for me.

I had been in Portland for a week. Came back and started having asthma issues, wednesday and then tonight at the fireworks. Thank God for inhalers.
Did anyone else have trouble at fireworks. It rained a lot today and the air was so thick.

We had mid 60's today and it rained ALL day. It is supposed to rain tomorrow too, then be nice on Sat and Sunday, with high in the low 70's. We have really had a cool, rainy summer so far.
Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday...be careful and keep sparkin'

We're in the 80's with intermittent thunderstorms so I'm sticking by the ac. Have a great weekend!

Yes, hope everyone is breathing okay. We are partly sunny and 71 degrees today with thunderstorms this evening...sure does keep the humidity away...that's a good thing.

Well July is here and most of us are dealing with asthma problems by now. I hope you all have a good month and remember to hang by the AC to help you breathe easy.
