I occassionally wake up at night with an asthma coughing spell. However since I started singular three weeks ago I haven't had any problems except an anxety related attack the night before my surgery.

I wasn't getting any benefit from my inhaler until I started using it at first incling of a cough or attach coming on. Now it works most of the time. I guess it took awhile to get to know my body well enough. I didn't even realize all that coughing and wheezing was asthma for awhile until my doctor gave me one of those blowing out tests.

Yeah, I take flonase, singulair and symbicort. I just wondered if this was really my asthma or something else. I did get up and use my inhaler and then slept on the couch which is more upright then my bed. I have a hard time getting my brain around when to use my rescue inhaler. stupid I know and it perplexes my doc too.

I used to wake up with attacks at night all the time til I quit using fabric softener and found the right detergent. Now I sleep much better.

I have woke up before and felt like I was short of breathe. I usually go get the relief and take me a puff off of it.

I don't wake up if I have taken a Singulair before bed, or usually my Advair. Sometimes I will feel well enough and not use any meds before bed, and then I wake up usually coughing and have to use my rescue inhaler. It is especially bad when we have the furnace running. When it's warmer and we have the fans running and windows open, I breathe better.

My asthma causes me to cough a lot and it usually makes me cough so hard I puke from drainage I suppose as well. I do wake up a lot at night but not to the point where I feel I am choking. my doc recently gave me flonase to take twice a day which has helped with my nasal drainage quite a bit. It is a kind of drop tha goes in the nose.
good luck!

Does anyone out there ever wake up at night with asthma symptoms? I have been waking up and feeling like I was going to choke to death. Sometimes it causes me to start a coughing attack. Sinus drainage I guess. Just wondering about others?
