You will all have plenty of time for fun..the rest of your lives. I'll be praying that she moves a little to release that pain in your back, and help you with being able to have feeling in your legs.

I must admit I am ready for that already. Right now she lays close to the nerve in my back and can't hardly move when I get up most timees. I am so scared I am going to fall because the legs won't move like they should at all. I can't do the things with my kids like I want to and look forward to her being here and their reactions. I am now getting sinus problems as well and coughing which pulls the lower stomach and am really sore. Being a diabetic makes me extremely tired as well and that's also hard on my kids. I know it won't be long but just feel bad because they are out of school and I want to have fun with them.

try and make the most of these last few weeks before the baby comes, try and pamper your self.like you i spent the last couple of weeks before ayman got here wishing it would be over instead of enjoying it,especially as that was my last pregancy(didnīt know it at the time.)because after the birth you then have, night feeds, nappy changing, tiredness from breast feeding, and later what i am experiancing now, teething etc.enjoy every section of pregnancy and the baby while it is happening.all the best.

I don't use the urgent cares for my lungs either. I go straight to the ER where I know that have all the things needed for me. It may take longer but would rather be safe than sorry. Today has been hard around here with the humidity. So ready for my baby to get here where I don't have the huge ball sticking out in front.

I've never been to an urgent care. We just have ER here.

I formed this opinion as both a patient and an employee. I worked as a unit clerk in an urgent care for 4 years. Lungs and hearts are just better off in the ER-even if you need to call 911. You just slow your treatment time-especially if they need to transfer you to the ER anyway!!

good suggestion - no urgent care. has anyone else been to an urgent care?

I too give my vote for the ER or your doctor's office if they are comfortable with your treatment. I recommend the ER rather than an immediate or urgent care clinic-they just are not set up for a life threatening attack.

Absolutely Right! But I would be the one telling you I was okay as I HATE the hospital and do everything to avoid going there. Sometimes stupidly at my own risk.

emoticon robin, hope you like it here.

katie i am glad your friend is slowly on the mend.

with my son when he has an asthma attack we give him an extra inhaler(he inhales twice a day with viani forte when he is ok.)if that doesnīt work after 10-15mins we have to give him recadelt100(100mg prednison)if after 45mins that hasnīt kicked in we are to call the ambulance.with my man it is differant.he has a different type of asthma to my son and i ,when he has an attack he has to usually go straight to the hospital where he has hormone injections and oxygen, after that he is normally on inhalers then.everyone is different but to be on the safe when you donīt know ther people or what they are on and how they react it is best to inform the paramedic.better to be safe than sorry.

That is something I never do is take my asthma forgranted. I usually always end up with chest pain with my attacks and the heart is racing so I take the trip to the ER to make sure my heart is ok. I know I will have to set up an appt after having the baby to check back in with the heart doctor and make sure it's still going like it should. That is the best advice I would want to give anyone with asthma is never take it forgranted and always take the trip to ER and be safe than sorry.

Recently a friend at my church had a life threatening attach and was without oxygen for 20 minutes. That has scared everyone so they get how serious it is. I have had several ask me what they should do if someone has an attack. Have them use their rescue inhaler. After 15 minutes if they are no better call 9I1. I also told them if they use there rescue inhaler twice within 1 hour call 911. Much better to tick off the person then take a chance. At least in my opinion, I would want someone to do that for me. I also told them not to leave the person alone. We probably would all tell them we are okay, but if we are using our inhalers that often we certainly are not okay.

Oh and I just found out that the reason my friend passed out and her inhaler did not work is that she had a terrible case of pneumonia. That brings up a ton of other questions that I want to ask her but now is not the time. I hope she gets her short term memory back and the use of her arms. She has made phenominal progress.

Robin Welcome! emoticon
I have had a good week. Right at this moment I am not feeling so well. I forgot my meds this morning, so you know I must have been feeling good. Paying for it now though. Mold and grass are very high today and I think I will lie down for a while.
Terrible Sinus headache began about noon. I am traveliing this weekend and actually am looking forward to having a few days to do nothing - ha - when will that be.

Welcome to the team Robin and glad to have you. Gracie take it easy and don't overdo it. You will get back at it soon I am sure. I know that my asthma has also been acting up as well due to the weather around my house. Also being 35 weeks pregnant doesn't help it I am sure. I had an awards ceremony for the kids this morning and just decided to go ahead and pull them out for the rest of the year. They only had this afternoon and tomorrow till 1 to go and my son's teacher is still acting up so I just said what the heck. I want him to be able to settle down and have a good summer break so I just started it a little earlier than normal. Ready now to have my baby soon and we can get back into our exercise routine together. My kids also love to walk Gracie and that's how we vent our frustrations for the day especially with school. Take care all and hope your day is a sunny one. Clouds for us here today.

emoticon Robin. This is a great team so I definitley hope you'll continue to post with us!!

I am doing pretty well with the asthma opst-op but continue to have pain. I have fortunately only had to use the albuterol once in the last week so that was great but I am pretty housebound right now so who knows how it will be when I start walking outside again. Walking is the only form of exercise the doc will allow-he said NO aerobics and I can only lift ten pounds anyway. And plus he said don't rush the walking either-take it nice and slow. Perhaps he doesn't exercise daily?? I always try to walk everyday-not happening right now and that is frustrating-it is throughing of my streak! emoticon

I have not been on this chat room before, so just stopping by to say "hello".
Sounds like everyone is very busy with the good and the bad. Hope all are doing better.

I went to a meeting last night and there was something in the room that started me wheezing..I used my Albuterol during the meeting, but by the time I got home, I was really having a problem so took the Advair and Singulair right away....today is a little better, not having as much trouble breathing, but coughing a lot.

I hope to get acquainted with you all and become one of the team.

Thanks,
Robin

It's a wonder you have any energy left with all those treatments. I hope they are helping and that everyone is breathing better.
I am better and coming down off the meds. My breathing is normal and I was able to enjoy the weekend and get a few chores done and relax. It is so nice to be able to breathe without a struggle after so long.

hi everybody sorry i have not been around lately but it been very hetic and very stressful in my life.my husband had an accedent in the work,he is still off work but had his stiches removed today.the baby asthma has got worse and they have nearly doubled his sulbutamol, before he was on 4drops 2 times a day with koch salz and koch salz alone 3 times a day(we have our own nebulizer at home for him.now he is on the sulbutamol 5 drops 3 times a day with koch salz on itīs own twice a day.it is very stress as it takes between 20-30 mins each time and the baby fights and screams the whole time with it.on top of that my 6yr. old kinder garten gave him some jellies that he is not allowed to eat so he had an allergic reaction and he ended up in hospital,he was given antihistamins, rectadelt(perdnison)and oxygen.he is now home but his asthma is still bad and they have doubled the dose of his viani forte and added salbutamol to it.they have also given us pumicort incase of emergency.on top of that the baby seems to be starting to teeth though it will be a while before he getīs his first tooth.anyway that is the reasons i have been missing in action.

cherely i am glad for you it is coming to the end i remember only too well how hard the last few weeks are.hope everything goes well for you.

gracie glad the op went well and hope the second one does to.are you doing your lung exerciseīs every hour like you have to do here after every op?it used to always make me cough but it does help.

hope everyone else is having a good time and not too affected by asthms, hay fever or other allergies .now things are beginning to calm down abit.son no longer in hospital, man stitches out etc i hope to become more involved again in the group but canīt promise.good night and take care.

So thankful your first surgery went well and will continue praying for you about the second. I am doing pretty good and had my appt last week where she weighed approximately 5lbs 10ozs. If I have not had her by 39 weeks I will be induced so I only have around 4 weeks till that time. YIPEE!! Take care all and Happy Memorial Day.

Well team I am done with the first surgery and recuperating long enough to get the next surgery-probably in August. Starting after I see him Weds I hope that I will then be able to lift 10 lbs and go back to living in y own apt vs. my moms house which is driving me insane. I had an excellent anesthiesioogist and had no trouble with my asthma wha so ever and my pulse ox was good enough that I didn't need to where the O2 after the first part of the first night. That was a great feeling. I hope all is well with everyone. Cherly I hope everything is going well for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I have been cleaning and wheezing and I really hate the rescue inhaler. I think in my next life I will be a pharmacist and discover a better tasting inhaler that also doesn't make your heart race. URGH!!

Anesthesiologists ask patients to use their relief inhaler prior to surgery to make sure that their lung function is at its optimal during surgery. It's just one of those start out in the best possible function for the best possible outcome things. Smells have a strong affect on me, too. I never got morning sickness during pregnancy but could clean out the refrigerator without nausea when pregnant. Opening a container of spoiled food was a surefire upchuck for me. Sometimes cleaning products make me have an attack, too. Good to know what our triggers are!

For me certain smells in the hospital will trigger an asthma attack for me but it's when I am not the patient. I know when mom had surgery something in there triggered one for me and had to use the relief inhaler as well. Kate I hope your doing better and things are beginning to line out for you. I hope you all have a great day and another day for me to head back to the doctor. TAke care!!

Gracie - asthmatics who have well controlled asthma should have no trouble with anesthesia. Until this recent bout your asthma has been under control right? It sounds like the anesthesiologist knows what to do, don't over think things as that stress is not good for you either. I will be praying for you as the 18th is just a few days away.

Just go and do what you can each day. Somedays you maybe able to all you wanted regarding exercise and others you will have to stop. I have found deciding to do some form of exercise each day works better than try to do something 3 days a week. You have already had amazing success.

Never heard of that before when I have had my small surgeries done but I am also allergic to a particular anesthesia so I have to be careful with what they give me anyway. Good luck and hope you find your answers.

The anesthesiologist called this afternoon to go over meds and he said to use my rescue inhaler before hand because anesthesia can cause asthma attacks. Has any one experienced this?? I have had many surgeries but never this long of a procedure (actually three at once). Si I'm wondering if the chances increase with the length of time you are under??

Are you using your rescue inhaler 15 minutes before you exercise? Some forms of exercise are easier for asthmatics than others. Short burst exercises like sports and swimming and dancing are easier than running for many. I hope you find what works for you.

Recently I've been having so much trouble because I've had exercised induced asthma but now I have more persistent asthma emoticon I've been good...I've exercised 2 days in a row (go me!) but it's so hard to be persistent especially if I'm not feeling good. I'm going to sign up to do one or two 5K's and hopefully I'll be feeling well and it will motivate me to go work out and run/walk my first 5K

I am feeling so much better today both physically and mentally. I wish I had said to my doc - if you are disappointed that I can't remember, then write it down for me. He doesn't like action plans. I got to the gym yesterday and did the elliptical for 20 minutes and then today for an hour I was there doing my circuit training and then stretching. I think exercise makes me have more energy and feel better about everything. It is hard to get motivated to go to the gym, but once I am there I am always glad.
Have a great day all.

Wow I saw the doctor today after just a week on the singulair and she said my lungs were clear as a bell!! Yeah-she said I should stay on the Allegra as well just to make sure everything stays okay. I honestly walked as fast as I possible could without running today because I missed the bus and had to walk and extra 1/2 mile in about 10 minutes (less actually) and no wheezing at all-nil. It was a great feeling after having to use the rescue inhaler for the last few weeks.

I hope everyone has a great evening!!

Hang in there Kate and you will get it lined out. It's hard for me to understand my asthma sometimes as well. My allergist if very understanding though so I have it made for me. I will have another stressing day taking Christopher back to Memphis once again for another checkup and then another one for me on Thursday. Have a good one team and breathe easy.

Did you cough up blood or was it in your mouth? If you coughed it up you should call your doc right now. If it was in your mouth check to see if you bit your tongue or cheek. Coughing up blood is never normal.

Doc update - I asked the doc if I was to use my inhaler when I cough. Doc said he did not understand why I keep having difficulty understanding what to do. I appear to be an intelligent women. He said my spirometry was normal and that I would have episodes even when I have good control of my asthma, which he apparently thinks I do. He thinks my problem is when I cough my vocal chords constrict and taught me how to clear my throat instead of coughing. He also taught me to close my eyes take a slow deep breath and relax my vocal chords and that should relieve my chest pain. While I appreciate the fact that he gave me helpful suggestions, my chest pain starts first not after my coughing. He wants me to come back at the end of the summer or sooner if I have a problem.

Are you on a maintenance inhaler that you take daily for you asthma. If not you might want to check with your doctor and see of you need one. I have never had my mouth to bleed during an asthma attack but not saying it couldn't happen and would also ask your doctor about that as well. I wish you all the best and hope you get some relief.

Hi, I just joined this group because i have asthmas. Today I was working out. I did a lap around the school track, and I tasted blood in my mouth, my heart felt like it was in my gums and tooth. And it hurt so bad, I had to take my puffer which I did but I'm still coughin and having trouble to breath.. is this normal???

Wow the singulair seem to be helping with the athma-not so much for the allergies at least not today. I live in Madison, WI and we are in the top ten worst places to live for allergy season right now. So I guess I will just have to deal with it since I can't move somewhere else. Maybe some day (lol).

It was nice weather here today a little cool but obviously warm enough for the buses to turn on the air. It was much warmer last week and they just opened the windows-I really don't get how they decide and how much extra money it costs to run AC on a day windows would be cool enough or even too cool. I hate the temperature shock when you get on a freezing bus-urgh. I hope every one had a nice day. I got in 45 minutes of walking actually probably more. Have a good evening!!

I've needed my rescue inhaler a lot lately and had to resort to the dreaded Pred. Oh bother. I am breathing easier. My worst month's have always been May and October. While we were out driving, I could actually see the pollen in the air from the trees shedding seed flowers. No wonder!

Do you think maybe they need to change the Symbicort to something else that might work better? I know when I was on it I had to change to Pulmicort to help me better. Maybe the doctor can give you some answers.

I am using the symbicort 2 puffs twice a day. I had to use my rescue inhaler last night as my chest was so tight and again today. Coughing more today. I can't wait for tomorrow to come.

I have never noticed any with mine but I also use the relief inhaler called Xopenex because it's supposed to not raise your heart rate at bad. They all leave a bad taste in your mouth as well. Kate how often are you taking the Symbicort? If your only doing once a day you might need to increase it to twice just for a little while then go back to the regular amount. I know my allergist has me to do that with my Pulmicort. I usually take one puff in morning and at night but when the season is unusually rough he will up it to two puffs in morning and at night and this helps me from having to use the relief as much. Don't know if this would help you out as well. I also still take the shots for my allergies once a week and he told me that if Christopher's starting getting bad this year to start him once a week again because he has moved to every other week. I hope things go better for you today and you start getting some relief. I know the prednisone can sometimes make you feel worse after coming off of it that's for sure or at least it does me sometimes.

I want to wish you all a Happy Mother's Day and hope your day goes well.

Thanks all! I am currently using proventil as my resuce inhaler. I take singulair, symbicort, flonase, allegra. Right now I have added Mucinex - although I am not coughing up the tons of stuff I was last week, so I bet i can stop that. I also just finished a round of prednisone for the last two weeks. My doc just added the symbicort. I had gotten off advair since the fall of 2007 and have not used a controller medicine since then. I can tell the symbicort is helping as I checked my peak flows before I took the meds and then an hour later - quite a difference. I was outside today a lot at a local garden and so we will see how tomorrow goes.
Do any of you have voice issues when using your rescue inhaler?

Do you have a relief inhaler that you are using during the attacks to help you deal with them. If you do that also may need to be changed to help you better as well. I can usually get relief with mine within 5 to 10 minutes in helping me with my breathing and yes I have been using mine quite a bit here lately. The rain here is making breathing for me awful that's for sure. I would also check into the maintenance meds as well and see if they need to be increased during the peak allergy season as well. Good luck Kate and hope it gets better.

I have been having more trouble this year than the last several years. My doctor just prescribed singuliar and it seems to be improving!!

I think it is good you already have an appointment with your doc and I agree maybe your meds need a little change up!

I hope you are feeling better soon.

I am starting to get concerned. I had another asthma attack this morning as I was driving! I had to pull over and get my husband to drive (I was taking him to the airport). By the time we got to the airport I was better but now I have a weak voice again and I started coughing up stuff. This is the third time since March that I have had an attack and it takes me almost two weeks to get back to normal. I had just taken my last prednisone tablets this morning and was so excited. I have an appointment for Monday for a follow up for my last episode. I just don't understand what gives as I Have not had an attack in over a year.

I am completely at ease with my surgeon and plastic surgeon, plus my regular family practice doctor is going to be involved too!! So I am feeling as good as I can about it. I actually saw the plastic doc today to sign the consent forms and square up size and shape kind of things so that they look similar.
Thanks for the support!

I am having a mastectomy with reconstruction. On my routine mammogram the found something suspicious and confirmed it with a diagnostic mammogram and then I had a biopsy which showed ductal carcinoma in situ. Basically breast cancer with a very good outlook the surgery should totally solve the issue!! Thank God!! So I'd prefer to be able to breath before I started this long process.

Those steroids are killers on diabetics that's for sure and I have the same problem. They can really mess me over when I have to take them and would rather not as well but sometimes I don't have the choice. What type of surgery are you having?

Well I called the doctor's office today and she prescribed the singulair so I can start it tonight even though I took the allegra this am. The pharmacist said it was fine to be on both. I think I will clarify this with the doctor next week and only use the singulair after tonight and see how that goes. I read the patient information print out she gave me and it said in rare cases it cause psych issues. So I guess I'll just have to be very meticulous at managing my psych stuff to see if it has that effect on me. Can afford that but can't afford to not be breathing well either for my up coming surgery!!! I see my doc next Tuesday so I can check in with her then on how it is working before the surgery scheduled for May 18th-At all costs I want to avoid the steroids especially before & after my surgery actually I prefer to avoid steriods at all times. They affect my diabetes and my mental health. I have little room in either area to play with. Thanks guys for the input on singulair. I'll let you know how it works.

On the main message boards there is a forum for technical support. I would go there and post the problem that your having and wait for one of them to message you back with an answer. You can try this or have her start completely over with a new username and password. Can you pull up her sparkpage and leave her a message on it?

CHerly,
My daughter and I use the same pc, the settings never change,,
I go online, then logout, then she tries to go on,,who can we contact to fix this??? SHould she start all over?? SHe has over 500 sparkpoints already,,,
ever since she joined, the page tells us to type in our sparkname or addy, then they send us our password because they tel us we have an incorrect one, then we have to click again, retype our spark name, then our password,, I have no problems on the site, but she absolutely cannot huddle, get in any teams to read or write, watch a video, nothing.. only can get some of her points from the trackers ,, this is the only site she has problems.. there has to be somebody like a team leader or NIcole Nichols or a geek that handles glitches.. the first week was fine for her, but after that, it is impossible to use the sight!! I would appreciate it if you could let us know how who we can contact , Linda

It could be maybe something to do with pop-up blockers. I know that if the security is set to high it won't let me open any emails either. That could be it and if it's at work not for sure how she could change it.

I take singulair and it has been a miracle worker for me. Until this last episode that was the only asthma med I was taking (not counting the rescue inhaler of course). My allergist also told me that during times of high pollen I can also take an allegra (zyrtec, claritin etc), but be careful as the additional antihistamine can make you sleepy. I take my allegra in the morning. I also use flonase for allergies. Just last week they started me on Symbicort. It has helped as my peak flows are better but I am still coughing. I use to take Advair but hated it! It gave me cardiac symptoms. Always always ask your doctor before you stop or start something as it could be a big deal.

Whatever theings are true, whatever things are noble whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things.

I took it and it did not help me at all. I now take the powder inhaler Pulmicort and get more relief using that maintenance than any other. Advair made me cough all the time so once I started this one I settled down. My daughter takes Asmanex for her asthma.

Does anyone take Singulair for your asthma and related allergies? I have been needing to use my rescue inhaler twice a day for the last week or so and I don't think that my antihistamine is working very well with the spring season. I actually sang this weekend with my symphony chorus and I had an attack during a performance-the can't stop coughing kind. Not good during the soloists part (lol)!!

Hi everyone! I am back among the living. Asthma had me down and out for 10 days or so. Still having problems but much better. I am having an echo tomorrow as well. I tried to work out today and only could complete one half of my routine. However, I did spend about an hour gardening outside.

I hope it all turns out well and after I have my baby I have to go back to the heart doctor as well for my checkup. I skipped mine at the beginning of the year due to the pregnancy so I will have to follow up with them after I have my baby. Keep us updated on what you find out.

Happy May Day! After a couple of 90 deg. days, I'm happy for 60 again and rain. I got a sunburn from a short walk, pale me. Apple cider vinegar took care of that.

Having more trouble breathing but may be a heart murmur. Going to get an echo Mon for that.

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Hugs,

Namaste
Celia

I suppose I really should be in the April thread since it is actually the 30th. Oh well. I have been having increased asthma symptoms-I think because of the spring blooming trees and grasses. I haven't had too much of a problem for several years but last year I had to change antihistamines because Zyrtec which worked wonders was available over the counter. I am thinking of asking my doc for singulair. I figure it should help the lungs and the allergies. This is really bad timing for me because I sing with a Symphony Chorus and our dress rehearsal is tonight with performances Fri, Sat & Sun. So I really need my breath. I actually think I sing using the most quick catch breaths in the entire ensemble.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.
