I haven't done any exercise with the pregnancy due to a miscarriage that I had almost 2 yrs ago so I stayed pretty laid back with this pregnancy. I did nothing that might make me miscarry again. So far I have done pretty good.

I am so excited for you. How has the pregnancy affected your working out with asthma.

As Long as I am still- I am good but when i move around coughing abounds!

The prednisone should work pretty quick and you will feel improvement possibly by tomorrow or the next. It always has worked quick for me. As for my little one she is due June 30th. I told my hubby all she does right now is kick me to death. She is growing that's for sure because the stomach is stretchinng like crazy. Ready for June that's for sure.

Wow! I have been gone awhile - when are you due?
i did call the doctor today. Put me on 20 mg of prednisone and mucinex along with my flonaze and Singulair. I will call on Monday and may need to be seen. I am not sneezing anymore but my chest hurts like it did when I had pneumonia two years ago. I have been so good the last 5 weeks at getting to the gym and not being able to go - well it ticks me off!
I guess that is progress!

Drink pleny of OJ for vitamin C and if not getting any better head to the doctor. I have had both of my kids sick and trying to ward it off myself and so far have done pretty good. I am beginning to struggle with breathing some as I get bigger with my pregnancy so really have to take it easy now.

haven't been around for awhile but started keeping track of stuff again. I am struggling with a cold. I am really afraid it will bring on an asthma attack. Any advise for me?

Welcome to the team and glad to have you. I also have the allergy induced asthma myself and currently take allergy shots to help with me keeping mine intact. I fair pretty good with them and it has helped me out quite a bit. Good luck in reaching your goals.

Hi! My name is Jody and I'm new to the team. I've been on SP for about a week now. Just occured to me to look for this team... So, here I am.

I was diagnosed with asthma 22 years ago. Probably had it before then, but not diagnosed. Growing up, the gym teachers always made me feel lazy when I couldn't do laps like everyone else. Now I knew why.

So along with exercise indused, I am also allergic. I have been on Xolair shots for almost 6 months and on stroids for 8 months straight. The Xolair will hopefully help with alot of my allergies, but doesn't seem to help with some of my other triggers.

I am now exercising daily and trying to build lung capacity and endurance. I'm hoping this will eventually prevent attacks.

Hell Lynn and glad to see you. I am due the end of June and found out it's a baby girl. She is growing as she should and all is well. So far I have not gotten a call about the birth defect test being abnormal so I hope that went well too. I hope to receive something in the mail the next day or too. She said if it came back abnormal she would give me a call immediately and so far no call so pray all is well. I haven't had an attack yet but with the weather changing constantly it's a wonder I don't. How is the rest of the family doing?

Cherly - How is the pregnacy coming along? When are you due again, sorry I forgot :(

I had my first asthma attack of the season the other day at work and of course I didn't have an inhaler with me. Luckily I work in the pharmacy and they got ahold of my doctor and got me one right away. The stupid wind is what caused it.

I also suffer from asthma when doing exercises but I only use the inhaler when needed.

Thank you for the reply, mstiggerfan. I'm so pleased that your asthma is currently under control and that you've managed a good stretch without an admission to hospital. The kind of asthma I have - very brittle - is quite rare, with only about 1% of asthmatics having it, and unfortunately it results in very unstable and difficult/impossible to control asthma. I'm lucky that I have an excellent doctor (he's one of the national specialists) and hospital team, but the day to day management is down to me. I'm okay with that and I'm a good judge of what I can and can't do at any one time, and I'm quite happy with altering my prednisolone as and when I need to. It's the side-effects I hate, particularly the ease of putting on weight. It's a struggle, but I have to (and will) find a way to combat it.

Hello and welcome to the team. I am not on a dose of prednisone and is hard for me to take away due to my diabetes. I do have admissions to the hospital for my asthma attacks but thankfully I don't have them that often. My last admission was back in Nov 07 and managing mine quite well. I also take allergy shots which help keep my asthma under control. I wish you all the best in getting yours there and always here for you.

Hi, I'm new to SparkPeople and only just joined up on Friday. I'm a brittle asthmatic and wonder if anyone else on here is also brittle. If so, how do you manage to keep motivated and get back into exercise when you've had a bad attack/hospital admission, and how do you cope with the frustration of sometimes not being able to exercise when you want to? I find it tough going, and although I just get on with it most of the time, I do find that the constant interruptions to any routine I manage to get into between admissions is really demotivating, and a great excuse for not getting back into it.

Also, I'm on long-term high-dose prednisolone (11.5 years so far at a dose between 30 - 80mg). I know I have to take it to keep breathing, but I hate the extra battle it gives with the whole weight-loss thing. If anyone else out there is on long-term high-dose steroids, how do you cope with this aspect of them?

Thanks,
Becky.

When I have real bad coughing spells I find out the relief inhaler helps to stop them and I can breathe easier without coughing as much. Be sure and try to use the inhaler before a workout then take it slow with what you are doing. Work yourself up to the harder things and give yourself plenty of cool down as well. The cardio really has helped my lungs become stronger and would still be doing abunch but with being pregnant and having to put myself sitting alot due to pressure already I don't get to do as much as I would like. I can really tell that as well because I don't have the energy that I did with the cardio so just start slow, slow, slow and work up.

Maybe some remember me, I had asthmatic bronchitis from Oct 15th until the first week in January.

Now it is early Feb. I had to go to the doctor for another reason, and while I was there, I told him that I have become afraid to work out doing cardio. I am doing strength training OK, but the one time I did Cardio since getting over the bronchitis, I started coughing again and my lungs hurt plus when I went to bed I noticed wheezing. (Of course, I got up and took my asthma inhaler.)

He explained to me that I need to do the cardio to finish getting over the bronchitis I had. He says there is still mucus that needs to be worked out and the coughing is good for that.

He did change my puffer to something else because I told him I refuse to use it unless I am really in need because the side effects are worse then the coughing. (I usually just cough when my asthma bothers me, wheezing is really uncommon for me.) I am delighted to have a different puffer and it gives me no side effects at all! Yea!

But even though he told me the cardio is good for me, I have now gone another week without doing any. I am still afraid. I can't get sick again. I am unemployed and the bronchitis I had kept me from getting hired for a long stretch.

Has anyone else gone through this? What helped you?
