Hi! My doctor encouraged me to begin taking Vitamin D3 2000IU 4/day. I take 2 in the am and 2 in the pm cause I can't remember to take it 4 times a day. He also told me Magnesium 400mg/day along with flaxseed or fish oil. I do the flaxseed oil cause I'm a vegetarian but I think they work the same.

He told me these all help decrease inflamation throughout the body, I've noticed a difference since I started this regimin.

I've also read research about other antioxidants including Vit C, but the D3 has been working great for me...and its dirt cheap too!! always a plus.

I still have not found out what this particular vitamin is, but I will continue to look.

I have asked my doctor about vit and she tells me to just make sure it is something high in calcium and vit C. I do take a multi vit, but not every day. I can't swallow large pills, so I have to purchase the chewey vit that come in choco, vanilla, caremel flavors. They may just come in choco and the extra calcium comes in the other flavors.

I have found Viactiv multi vit that comes in what they call a 'smooth glide' pill. They are a little easier to swallow, but I get sick from them. They come in berry flavor and maybe a few others too.

If I wouldn't get so sick from them, I would probably take them everyday. I have tried taking them on a near full to full stomach and on a empty stomach.

You should really ask your doctor about the vitamins.

Although I need to get back into taking vitamins, I've had some pretty rude awakenings from my doctor when it comes to herbal remedies. I was taking Evening Primrose Oil which is apparently bad for asthmatics and was causing me to have flare-ups. And I did not know that Echinacea is a close cousin of ragweed, of which I am very allergic.

So, better safe than sorry. Run the vitamins by your doctor before you consider taking something out of the ordinary.

I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well. I can certainly relate.

I have also read an article about vitamins that help control asthma symptoms, but like you I cannot recall which one. So I did a little internet research.

On ehow.com, they said Vit C can improve lung function and magnesium can help relax bronchial muscles. As always, it also says to consult with your doctor.

Personally, I take Singulair every day and for the most part that keeps my attacks at bay. I puff on my inhaler before working out. If I happen to be having a bad day/week I will use my Advair.

I hate Prednisone, and try to avoid it as much as possible. It works great, but makes me feel awful.

Good luck with trying to find out what that vitamin is.

When my asthma gets real bad, I too take prednisone. It's like a miracle drug for me, but it does take a couple of days to work. Hope you feel better soon.

Do they have you on any prednisone? That would help the lungs clear up pretty good.

Hi, I actually had this on the SP boards and thought I would place it here instead.

I have severe asthma, have had it since I was a baby and it has gotten worse over the years. I know that my weight plays a big roll in my not being able to breath well, and that is one reason why I am at SP.

I saw an article the other day about asthma and taking a certain vitamin to help control symptoms, but now I cannot find the article and I would like to know what the vitamin is. Does anyone know what I am speaking of??

I have been sick for the last few days, which is a first in a longggggg time, I just never get this bad and with my asthma, it is just making things worse. I have an appointment to see my doctor to see about getting a nebulizer because inhalers just are doing a good job.

Thanks
