It's like marching or walking in place. It also has side steps, knee lifts, and kicks. You can find some of her dvds at a Kmart for 5 dollars and I think you would like them. I love all of mine that I have and it really helps.

OK, I'm embarrassingly non-tech in this department... how do you walk and watch a dvd at the same time?
My house is tiny... not sure I'd have room to do that.

They are DVD that I purchased at Barnes and Noble and Kmart. They are done by Leslie Sansone and are called Walk Away the Pounds. I love to do them. I have the 1,2,3, and 4 mile dvds.

Is that a cassette tape or a video tape? I've never used one, so I'm curious how it works.
Good job! How is your back doing?

Ok Jen I did not so the SP bootcamp but I did do the 3 miles Walk Away the Pounds express tape with the stretchie band. It has walking and stretching in one tape so that's 45 minutes for me. I hope to try and do it again today. I will try my best to get back into this for myself and health.

I found out how to adjust the calories... but you have to have a 10-15 change in weight, not a change in activity.
I just didn't want to bore people on this team with my updates. :P
(I felt ill today, but I still did 10 minutes of verrrrry light cardio and two strength videos. Took a hot bath and a long nap and I'm feeling a little better. Glad I made myself do the exercises at a very light level.)

Sorry Jen. I have been out of commission with a backache and can hardly move. I don't know what I have done and will have to go to the doctor if not better. Tomorrow I have a funeral to attend so I will be out again. I promise I will get in it with you Jen and no I don't think they adjust your calories.

I've still been at it, and I'm a bit tired - probably not eating enough. Anyone know how to have the SP site automatically adjust your caloric intake when you activity level increases?
I was hoping to get people here to join the boot camp with me, but it doesn't look like that worked. I started a spark page, so I'll just keep post my notes on there.

Well, I seemed to have fallen off the wagon over the weekend. Yes, I took one day easy due to my shoulder (which is fine - whew), and then Saturday I mowed for an hour and a half in the heat and was too exhausted. I figured that could count as cardio and strength - it's not a self propelled mower.
Sunday, I was out of town with company, so I guess when I get home today, I'll do two videos, Sunday's and Monday's.
I've quickly learned that bootcamp isn't so much about getting in shape fast, it's about the commitment to yourself.
An on another note - I'm beginning to feel a difference in my breathing on days when I do cardio and days when I don't.

Just take it easy maybe even a few days. Give yourself time to feal before you get back into it.

I didn't do the video workout today - my shoulder is hurting, and last time it was injured, it took years to heal. Hopefully tomorrow will be back to normal and I'll do two videos. I did bike for about 15 minutes and did a few leg exercises. I'm loving the stretching.

Thanks, Cherly! I did the 1o minute strength workout for lower body - wow, I really felt it, and I just did the easy version of everything. But the stretching felt oh so good! If you are not up to the exercises, just try the stretches that are at the end. Those I did twice.
I have a very hard time with exercises on the floor - my back is twisted (scoliosis) and yet it doesn't bend (rods). Since the work out is so short, I'm able to handle it ok.

My dad round bales his Hay Jenn and sells quite a bit of it. It gets to be a busy job for him and he is supposed to be retired. I will watch it with you.

Ok, today is day two and I'll be looking at the Thursday workout video. Anyone want to join me? Even if just to watch the video? (You get spark points for just watching the video)
I have to unload a small load of hay this morning and I'm dragging feet and procrastinating. I'd rather work out! But I'm not doing it for me, I'm doing it for the animals....

Thanks great news and so proud for you. No you don't have to do it all in one setting. I am not for sure what that is called either but I think your on the right track and you can do this.

Congratulations!! Yes, I think it does get easier the more you do it, but you deserve a big pat on the back. I think the effect your talking about is your lung capacity. You're increasing it with each workout. I think with asthma you have to re-train it. But whatever the effect is called, you're working it! Yay you!!

I did it!! I did the 30 minutes of cardio today! AND I didn't have to hit the inhaler.
Granted, the video I watched, well, yes I did take it easy. And if my stationary bike were on the road, joggers would be passing me. But I did it! (it doesn't have to be 30 consecutive minutes, does it? Can it be in two different sessions?)
One thing I did learn about cardio exercise is that it does have a type of cumulative effect in your lungs (is it measured in the VO2?). With normal lungs, you exercise one day, and it's kind of hard. But the next day, it's a tiny bit easier, even if you don't feel the difference. Does anyone know what this effect is called? I'd like to research it more.

Hi Jenn,
I'm new to all this too and my asthma is exercise induced. Just take it slow and remember to use your inhaler if needed. The bootcamp is really not that bad. You can always do the low impact version and still get a good workout.

Hang in there and just take it slow and easy at first and work yourself up.

just take baby steps if you have to and remember you have support here
I just did my first work out - I started with the Day 4 video since today is Wednesday. Actually, it wasn't bad! It was about a 10 minute work out for the core and it was a good pace for me. I really recommended.
Now it's the cardio... I'm not sure I can get 30 minutes in, but I'm going to try!

Let me look at it and see. I am having some other health issues right now but I might be able too. I will also look at the bootcamp exercises and just do them with you outside of joining. I know that they are on the exercise pages with SP. You can do this and just stay focused as much as you can.

So I just joined the SP bootcamp and now I'm scared.
4 weeks of daily exercise!
Even though I don't think I will be able to do everything, I plan to do what I can. Right now I just need structure and a jump start and MOTIVATION. September is my worst month for asthma, and I want to be ready for it when it comes.
Anyone here want to do it with me? I'm going to start Wednesday, but you can join at any time.
