Since you have been exercising and have seen some improvements, maybe you will be stronger by winter.

I get a flu shot, but I haven't gotten a pnuemonia shot yet.

I also try to take extra vitamin C, beta carotene, and natural E to help eliminate free radicals and help prevent me from getting sick. I often forget, though, and right now I'm just doing one multivitamina a day.

ETA: Is there a cold air mask that you recommend? I also need to look into some kind of mask for when I groom horses and mow the pastures. too much dust!

The cold air mask is a very good idea. Talk to your dr about pneumonia & flu shots. I worked in a dr's office last year. She also recommended the meningitis shot for college students. Your dr will be able to give you ideas about protecting yourself in the Minnesota weather. Please don't be scared though. With the right preventative measures and good medical care, you should be fine. This should be a fun time in your life. One really important thing is to make sure you wash your hands often. Keep in mind how many germs are on door knobs and handles. (Desks, other peoples hands, ets.) You can keep a hand sanitizer in your bag. Again, don't freak out, just use the best prevention measures. And have fun!

I would suggest that you get do get the flu shot. That is something that is always recommended for asthma patients. I also have tons of allergies and take allergy shots which help my asthma not to get as bad. I still have attacks but not like I did before the shots. Do you have very many allergies?

I am scared about winter. I live in Minnesota and it gets brutally cold here in the winter, which makes my asthma go haywire. Adding to the fun is I am in college and I will have to walk all the way across campus (our campus is huge....about 10 city blocks long and more wide) for classes. It is also going to be the cold and flu season (which as you all know is hell for asthma sufferers) I am going to have to get a cold air mask and pneumonia shot or something this year so I do not end up like last year where I almost failed school cause of uncontrolled lung issues! Wish me luck, and if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them!

Good morning team and hope all of you are doing well. This morning I was doing my cardio and for the first time I had to use the relief inhaler during my exercise. I have never before had to use the inhaler during any exercise so today is a first for me. It is also very muggy and humid outside due to getting a rain this morning. Have a great day team.

Isn't that strange. My asthma is the opposite. I guess we'll both be feeling better in about December LOL.

Come summer when I'm boiling, we'll be getting news about places getting snowed in. When it's freezing here (and it doesn't normally actually get to freezing like it did last night - we don't have central heating or a fire place) somewhere like Chicago will have a heat wave.

I don't like the super hot days but we usually only get a few of those in a row. It is awful when you can't breathe. I'd happily send heaps of cold weather your way if I could.

Please send some winter temps are way. Yesterday it reached over 100 degrees here and was miserable. For me I can't breath in the humid hot weather and breath better in the cold. I am just like me grandma because she was the same way with her asthma.

My game was cancelled last night (we've had a lot of unseasonal rain and the fields were too boggy) so I didn't have to run in the freezing weather.

Winding the windows down in the car makes my asthma worse. (If I'm really bad, I can't even stand fans). My asthma is good in the hot humid summer. My husband's home town has dry summers with cool nights and I struggle with asthma when I go there. (He thinks it's because I don't like staying with his family).

By the way, I'm in the middle of winter here.

That's rough to have to do Donna. Usually if I overdraw its because Greg wrote a check and forgot to tell me. I doesn't happen very often but occasionally. Good luck!!

So, another happy Ford Focus owner! emoticon Actually, I have LOVED my car! I recently replaced the original battery. But besides regular oil changes and tires, my car is a real trooper! I don't think I get the gas mileage they claim, but it's not bad. It's a cute little car. The only thing is the air. I have a 2 door, which is fine until I try to stuff my elderly uncle into the back seat. It's a good thing I'm strong enough to pull him back out!

I just got a call from my bank that my acc't is overdrawn. It's an old acc't that I only use for one monthly bill. Since it's all set up on autopay, I keep the acc't open. We use another bank for everything else. So I deposit enough for that one bill every month. It turns out that someone used my card # to pay some Progressive insurance bill, in the amount of $178. The bank told me to call Progressive. Progressive can verify that the money was taken from my acc't, but can't give me any info because they have to protect their customer (the theif's) information. So I have to go to the bank and fill out fraud paperwork and wait for Progressive to respond to get my money back. But at least the bank reversed the overdraft charges, so my account isn't in the red anymore. I guess it is time to change the bank the payment comes from and close that acc't.

Now I have to go to the bank and the grocery store in my hot little car. We'll see how well my deoderant works. emoticon emoticon

I wish it were that simple with my van Melody. With sliding doors they don't have windows so its hard for my daugther to get air and she has asthma too so it really rough on her. Maybe in the next few weeks we can get it fixed I hope. Hubby is getting lots of overtime so maybe we can build up the money.

emoticon The debate over what to fix first...OH BOY. I hate that. I have a ford focus sation wagon... the warrenty just expired this past April... then, everything started to break... I just spent over 1200$ on various repairs... of course the Air conditioning does not work...but, that will have to wait... just can't afford it. I roll the windows down and let the air rush in.... It makes me feel like I am riding a motorcycle istead! Which I would rather do...but, no room for the kids...LOL!

Have a great day. ~Melody

Jennholly, I know how you feel about a hard choice between brakes & air conditioning. emoticon Brakes would have to win, of course, or the air conditioning wouldn't do you any good.

I HATE not having air conditioning in the car! But I don't really need to drive the car too far, and only a couple of days a week. My husband thinks I should just get it fixed, but I guess I'd feel I deserved to spend the money if I were working. We're already going into August, summer is nearly over in Michigan. I can wait till next spring. I may be starting a new job in a couple of weeks.

I hope you all have a nice day. I'm going grocery shopping. (I won't be buying ice cream. LOL)

Freezing sounds wonderful too me. I love the cold weather if I don't have to exercise outside which I rarely do. It is very humid here and rough just to be outside.

The problem is that the cars these days are designed to run with the airconditioner. If you look at old cars, the windows are almost vertical and not that big. My windscreen in particular is quite sloped, turning the car into a glass house. Even if you start with a cool car, you need to keep the ac on in summer to keep the temperature comfortable (we have hot humid summers here).

On a bizarre note, they're predicting that our temperature will drop to freezing overnight. (I live in the sub-tropics). I'm supposed to play touch football at 8:30 tonight, but the field may be too boggy (we can only hope).

No offense was taken. I too have to have the whole thing for mine and nothing is ever cheap with this van. I have a 2001 Ford Windstar and its always messing up and I just get it fixed. It is comfortable for the whole family. I am trying to raise the money now for it and hope to have it fixed before school starts back.

I do understand it's a lot of money - I didn't mean my post to sound flippant. It took me 9 months to raise the money for mine... it needed a compressor, evaporator, and a conversion kit. I really lucked out with the time frame.

I think my previous experience gave me an illogical fear of not having air conditioning in my car. *blush*

I can't go the summer without ac in my car. Actually, that's how I "got" my asthma. One summer we had 110+ days with high, Houston humidity (and pollution back then was bad), and unfortunately I got stuck in about 45 minutes for 3 days in a row. Yech! Never had breathing problems before that. Just be careful, friends.

When I bought my "new" car (a 1991) I knew the ac would need to fixed. Luckily, it was fall and I was able to get the $$ together by summer. I lucked out. I still love my car.
emoticon

I tell ya - if I had to chose between brakes and AC, it'd be a haaard choice! LOL (I also have an hour+ drive to work a few times a week.)

Ed's car is new. Mine is a 2001. The air quit working last year. But we spent so much money on our son's wedding that I didn't want to spend more to fix it. Now I'm not working, so can't justify spending money. Ed keeps telling me to go get it fixed. But I went to Florida 3 times in just a couple of months time. We spent a lot of money on the new granddaughter. We also keep Caleb in diapers. So it's my own fault I don't have a working air conditioner. It's more fun to spend the money on the grandkids. So, I can't complain.

Hi Everybody! Just checking in. I hope everyone is doing well. It's humid in MI today. I'm having a little trouble breathing. The dr just changed my meds. Not too sure it's helping. Maybe it is, I never handle humidity well.

After having mine I went all the time constantly. I now have IBS-D but don't know if it was from having the gallbladder out. I also know some that have had it out and go on regularly. Tell him to watch greasy food for a while. They really set me off.

Thanks for the update - I'm glad it went well.

Will he have to watch certain foods from now on? I've never known anyone who had this surgery - well, at least, I don't know that I know of anyone.

Hubby is home and doing well. His surgery took a little longer then planned because the dr said his gallbladder was bad, it was the worst he had seen in someone my hubs age. He also said it should have come out 5 years ago when he had a positive scan. Makes me mad that my hubby has been in pain off and on for the last 5 years and been on so many meds for his "stomach" that they now think was all because of his gallbladder. I'm relieved that this surgery is over.

Hi everyone. My husband goes into surgery tomorrow so I'm getting ready to send my kids off to their grandparents (the inlaws). They are going to keep the kids for a week! It will be the longest I've ever had all 3 gone at the same time.

Played touch football last night. It was cold and exercise in the cold is one of my triggers. I struggled to get air in my lungs during the warm up (and to keep my dinner down, but that's a different story). I took more of my inhaler before the game started (basically doubling the normal dose) and managed to play the full 40 minutes (with a half time breather). Normally in touch, you can get subbed, but we were short so I played on the outside and stayed on all game.

Hello team and wanted to check in with all of you. I had to use my inhaler today due to having to go and sing for a small church and had problems getting my breath. That is very hard on me sometimes and usually the time when I have the have the relief inhaler the most. I made it through without completely losing all my breath so it was worth it. Take care all and hope your weekend is going well.

Hi all, sorry I haven't been around for a while. I hurt my hand and typing was uncomfortable. It still feels funny but it doesn't hurt as bad.

I guess stress has a way of making you sick. i haven't been feeling well and I have still been walking. I guess its okay because I have actually started sleeping at night. the down side is that I have been having nightmares again and wake up to an asthma attack. Too much stress. I hope everyone else is doing great and that we all meet our goals this July

Erin I wish your hubby all the best with his surgery. I had my gallbladder removed back in 2001 in between my pregnancies. I now have IBS and think that is came from it. He will feel much better after having it out but everything tends to go right on through you for some reason. I also wish you all the best too and your doing a great job.

Jennholly, those are great goals.

My goals are to live very thrifty this month too.

Also, to continue to push myself with the couch to 5 k program.

My husband is getting surgery on the 24th. He has been having some stomach issues for a while now and they are finally ready to take out his gallbladder and fix a hernia he has. He will be off work for a month, hence why I'm really trying to find ways to save money. I'm also praying for patience, he is so hard to deal with when he isn't up to par.

I'm really excited about the couch to 5 K program I'm doing. I never would have thought, a year ago even, that I'd be running again. I was a sprinter in high school, hurdles and 2 mile relay, so this whole distance thing is new to me. I'm beginning to have some issues with coughing a lot, I don't seem to have any problems when I'm on the elliptical or walking on the treadmill, just when I'm running. I need to using my inhaler before my running days and I'm hopefull that will help.

Jennholly that sounds like great goals. I am going thru some problems of my own alos. I am very bloated with headaches almost daily and retaining fluid also. I pray I get myself figured out and settled down. Hang in there and you can reach your goals easily.

Just curious - does anyone have special goals for this month? I have two.

1. I want to keep the work outs going all month long. It gets easier after the first month, right?

2. Live as cheaply but as healthy as possible, bringing lunch to work every day that I go, and minimizing gas usage at least twice a week.

I worry about getting sick again and not being able to exercise.

My life is back to normal,PTL. I was on the dreaded Pred while we had the work done on the house and my poor arms look like I had a fight and lost. Bruises everywhere. Some from moving furniture and others from an overexcited dog. Sure wish it was long sleeve weather. Happy 4th of July to everyone. We are able to watch the fireworks from lawn chairs in our front yard.
