I was able to cut fast food last year, but Ice cream and donate and other sweets were a problem. Since joining I have been able to pass up treats. When I want some I eat only one serving.

emoticonKESTES0 and emoticon to SparkPeople and the team challenge...Nice to have you with us on the journey to a healthier lifestyle. Sugar is very addictive, and with sugar in everything the level our body is use to is way out of proportion to where it should be. Stick with it, one step at a time, one day at a time and you'll move in the direction you want to go. Some can go cold turkey, however, the some (like me) slowly stepping away feels less like punishment and makes it easier to coax the urges under control. emoticon emoticon

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

Mistakes are the portals of discovery.

Don't be afraid to give your best at what seemingly are small jobs. Every time you conquer one it makes you that much stronger. If you do the little jobs well, the big ones will tend to take care of themselves.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

Katharine, thank you I will try that, lol... If he only knew how I thought of him afterward my overactive imagination turning him into burnt toast and crumbling from my eyes piercing him. I guess that will have to be for the next time but he should head the warning.

I know Just how it is. My hubby Roy did the same .Brought home cookies , the beast
my favorite . Like some one said its never one bite enough , its still not enough after 1,000
bites.

I went to him and told him, please repeat to me what I say to you .
there will be no misunderstanding. He did . He repeated , I will not buy you any sweets
unless you request it.

That did the trick . He hasnt brought me anything yet .
Good Luck

The Sugar Tempter:

I started Sparks he brings me a doughnut I say no thank you dear. I start this challenge and he brings me not one not two but three candy bars in the process of the weekend; oh and some soda pop to wash it down. There has to be an escape from the tempter. Unfortunately my tempter is my husband- what is wrong with him I actually looked at him and thought do you have a DNA problem are you mentally incompetent; you know I need to stay away from that junk so you bring it to me. I think between my husband the culprate, starting this challenge; and all in the same week as my monthly is grounds for a melt down but now I laugh. Maybe I have gone insane for sugar maybe sugar was my escape from my husband who feels the way to my heart is through sugar. By the way when we first started dating many years ago I advised him that I do not accept candy and I do not accept cut flowers I ate healthy at the time and preferred flowers that I could grow and would come back. It is time to take back the self control and will power.

KESTES0, I absolutely believe that sugar is addicting for some people (myself included). I've been reading a lot about addictions, primarily around drugs and alcohol and there are a definitely similarities. For me, I have to treat sugar like an addiction. That means that moderation doesn't work. I have to eliminate it and go through a detox. Tracking my progress and taking things one day at a time helps. Recognizing that relapse is part of the process. Relapse is a crossroads and an opportunity to decide which direction you want. Did you love it so much that you're going to give up and go back to your old ways? Or, do you feel lousy and recognize that you were better off without sugar, and ready to get back on track? I've had a few of these moments and I'm doing my best to just keep trucking along. Maybe someday, I'll be able to enjoy just a small, sweet treat without going overboard and without it causing cravings for more, but for now, I'm not there and I'm better off keeping it out of my life.

Good luck with your progress!

I did 2 things that helped.
first i got rid of all my high sugar foods from the house and did not buy any replacements. This was a family agreement and everyone can have a sugar craving but the rules are you need to walk to the location to get the treat you cannot drive the vehicle and you can't bring anything back home with you.
second was i started drinking green juice. It took a few weeks but the sugar cravings are completely gone. on a recent trip my DH and I were in a wonderful bakery and I looked around at all the cakes, pies, doughnut and other sugar filled desserts and did not want any of it.
So it is possible to break the sugar habit. Best wishes in the challenge

Thank You
for the tips .

any thing smooth to me , has no value , I like the bite bite that sweet .
thank you .

I will try pickles, grapefruit. stay away from anything sweet.
I seen where some were using dates, rasins,
to me that is another trigger. I so love yogurt covered pretzels hum I wonder ???

Welcome I started with sugar free jello or pudding in serving size dishes. I use a cookie as a reward if I stay away from sugar for a few days. Carrots are sweet and work as well as fruit. There is no quick fix, try a few things until you find what works for you. Sugar free gum also works. Good Luck emoticon
