When I go to town tomorrow, I am going to check for chia seeds. If they don't have them here, I will see if my sis can get them at the one health food store where she lives. Sounds really good and I do love my chocolate!

Amazon is a great idea. Just came from there.....looking at books (sewing) and jewelry (silver). Didn't buy, but am going right back to order the chia seeds. I live in a very rural area, altho we do have several health food stores. Also have a "Wallyworld". I say rural, but we are only about 50 miles SE of Syracuse University and less than 15 miles from Colgate University. Colgate is the reason we do have health food and organic food close at hand. Also, because of the University, we have one of the highest rated hospitals in NY State.

I have never seen chia seeds at Walmart. But you can get them from any health food store. And ordering them from Amazon is a great idea. I made these cookies and they were delicious! You are right, freezing them is quite a treat. And I will make them a lot because they are so easy and I had all ingredients.

Haha! the last time I was at Walmart and asked for chia seeds, they tried to send me to the plant section. I tried several different supermarkets including Fresh Market and finally just ordered them from Amazon and had them in 2 days. Sounds super delish ~ I can't wait to try it!

I'm not sure about chia seeds at "regular" grocery stores. I did see them last time I was at a Trader Joe's. I haven't tried the recipe without chia seeds, but I imagine they would still work without them.

I loves these and make them for a nice cold treat in the hot AZ summer. i keep them in the freezer and then pull one out just before I am ready to eat it. In the 110+ temp it does not take long for it to be ready to eat. sometimes i make them bite sized so i can just pop the whole thing in my mouth and like of let it melt in your mouth. It takes longer to eat but that is not a bad thing
Thank you for sharing emoticon

Thank you for the recipe. I actually made them tonight (and have eaten two). I used up my frozen bananas - waited for them to thaw a bit - and had the rest of the ingredients on hand. It really only took a minute to put together and was pleasantly surprised by how much I like them. Thanks again.

Sorry, I don't have a calorie count readily available.

Chia seeds are more of a specialty item. I order them through vitacost.com:
www.vitacost.com/productResults.aspx

They are rich in Omega 3.

There are so many awesome products I get through vitacost.com. If you do order through them, please use my referral link - we'll both get a $10 coupon:

Here is a great treat with no added sugar:

1 ripe banana
1/2 c. rolled oats
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tsp cocoa powder

Mash up the banana and mix with everything else. Drop rounded teaspoons on wax paper and freeze for at least one hour. Keep in the freezer until you're ready to enjoy!
