I just recently read a long thread about eating late at night and gleaned the following list as the most helpful for me. I'm going to incorporate a no eating after 6:15pm policy beginning tomorrow in conjunction with this challenge. I hope some of these will be found helpful for any of us who eat at night.
~ Eat at the table or desk!!!! Eating while on the sofa is making me think that I should eat when I’m on the sofa!!!
~ Water water water ~ I imagine we are all aware of this, but it is a good reminder; our bodies do not know the difference between water and food
~ IT IS ONLY FOOD!!
*******Have you ever woken up in the morning and thought, “Oh, I wish I had eaten more last night.” No? Me neither! But I have thought, many times, “Why did I eat so much last night?*******Food is not going to go away ~ it will be there tomorrow to have
~ Check to see what I am thinking about when I start to crave food
~ Craving goes away in 10mins
~ Brush teeth after EVERY MEAL
~ 21 day habit
~ Replace craving with something else, like a stretch or two
~ "Why do I really want to stuff my mouth full of that ____ (food item) and/or eat an entire bag of popcorn, pnut butter cups, etc. ... very late at night?" Is it really because I'm bored, lonely, angry, frustrated... about what and why!? What else can I do to address those feelings!?
~ "am i hungry enough that a yogurt sounds good" NOT "am i hungry enough that a cookie sounds good"- cookies are SO much more tempting than a yogurt.) If i'm not hungry enough for the yogurt, I usually realize that i'm actually not all that hungry at all, and i find something else to do to take my mind off the cookie.
*****Again, I hope some of this will feel helpful! We really are all quite lovely for choosing to take action ~ what a beautiful gift which we are all so deserving of!
