What a crazy day - going to pre-post because I know what will be the rest of the day's food....

Feb 24:

Br: smoothie
Lunch: Subway footlong (yes, I thought there was a sale and then I found out at register it had ended) tuna on whole wheat with NO mayo, just mustard and veggies.

(I usually don't eat Subway but I finished teaching my DW class and then realized I was going to be in town for 3 more hours and I hadn't packed a salad. Oops.)

A friend from Denver is coming up for the night and bringing food from my fave Thai place, so dinner will be

Red veggie curry - no tofu on brown rice, and a Thai iced tea, and I'm guessing we will make pomegrante daiquiris with my lime rum from St. Kitts. And maybe have a beer or two. I'm guess 3 drinks for me. :)

INteresting idea, Maureen. Funny thing, I got a runnersworld email the other day that must have been a link for this article and I didn't have time to read it then, so I totally forgot about it. I'm the same way. It actually has become quite bad. I have said no to many invitations out where I know I will panic over what I can eat. My husband gets very upset about it, as he should because I know it is borderline dangerous. I'm very OCD and it is easy to cross the line with me. I've been so much better though this past year with the running because I've not counted every calorie, every gram of protein, carbs, fat, like I have done for my years, and instead have just concentrated on eating good foods, ones that I know will help me with my running. IT has been so much healthier for my mind this way! I'm not running home and typing in every bite of food I have! I will have to go back and read that whole article because I'm curious what it's saying.

Br: berry smoothie
Snack: apple
Late lunch/early dinner: 2 servings of leftover spicy peanut noodle.

I didn't eat very much today, but I didn't much beyond dog walking and 2 hours of shoveling, either. I feel kinda tired from not sleeping well last night, so going to hit the hay now and hope tomorrow I awake bright eyed and busy tailed!

I just read this online on the Runners' World site. Anyone else see this and have thoughts?

This passage from pg 2 gave me pause:

*****
"A lot of people have their good-food list and their bad-food list," Bonci says. "Nothing high in fat, nothing fried. They'll eat only organic, only local, won't touch anything processed. They might start to avoid social situations because they don't know what the food will be."
*****
That's me in a nutshell. I don't cut calories, but I do get very caught up in eating organically and eating clean, and I will always avoid eating at peoples' houses or certain restaurants for that reason... Does this mean I have disordered eating (as the article indicates) or does it mean I care about my health? I think the latter, but the article says "the most common sign of disordered eating is when food choices become about what not to eat."

I disagree that avoiding eating in places where I can't control the food is disordered evening, but anyone else have thoughts on this?

OMG, Maureen, that dinner yesterday sounds awesome. Yes, you rock. :) I, too, have been very bad about this, actually I've remembered about posting, I just haven't wanted to post what I've been eating since the marathon. LOL! Starting back today though. I'm going to try to be a good girl. :)

So far breakfast today has been 1 egg, 1 egg white on whole wheat bagel thin, 1 sliced low sodium turkey bacon and coffee.

I'll be posting here tonight whether I'm good or bad.

Feb 15:

Breakfast: berry smoothie
Lunch: Honestly, I don't remember. Did I eat lunch? I have no clue. That's not good that I can't remember.... But I'm sure it was healthy, because what comes next, I felt was ok..
Snack: popcorn at the movies! I saw Iron Lady and Streep should win the Oscar!!
Dinner: homemade veggie soup, an energy bar.

Later... 2 rootbeers. Why is there rootbeer in the house? It somehow slipped into my cart the other day. I thought it would go with the pizza.... It was organic and home-brewed, but I have a headache today anyway from all that sugar.

I think, though, that I'm in some sort of weird thing and want to punish myself, so I'm eating stuff that I know will make me not feel good.

Here's something interesting.. I was thinking that what I call a headache may be what most people feel like all the time. I'm just more sensitive to the effects of sugar (and toxins), but what if how gross I felt last week is just how most of America ALWAYS feels? Thoughts on that? Like I'm just sensitized to it, but this is how people live their lives? A friend brought that up to me the other day...food for thought!

Maureen, glad you are feeling better- your food always sounds so good to me.

Yesterday, Feb 15:

Br- oatmeal, coffee
Lu- left over wheat pasta, tiny bit of shrimp, proscuitto, clementine
Sn- goldfish (I've been on a goldfish binge- this is the one "treat snack" I buy for the kids, so it's what I go to when I want something treatish. Not good as I buy the HUGE box of them- hey, at least they are the whole grain variety- LOL
Din- turkey- black bean chili, glass of champagne
Sn- OK- so clearly this was a binge- finished off the remaining proscuitto, couple slices of gruyere, bowl of cottage cheese with tsp of nat PB, Kashi bar with more PB, nectarine- none of this I needed and it was all after 10pm! :(

Made the chili so I could take it with me on the road tonight for dinner as well as have a container of it in the hotel room tomorrow- we have a frig and micro in our room- I made sure of it this time since our hotel during the Savannah marathon had neither and it was a pain in the butt!

Feb 16-
Br- oatmeal, bagel thin with almond butter (this is my marathon breakfast, but I hadn't had that combo in a long time so figured I better try it out- man, am I full!

No one should ever say no to strawberries! (barring allergic reactions, of course!)

Ok yesterday was ok... I'm getting better.

Breakfast: Cascadian Farm Organic Hearty Morning Fiber cereal with 2% milk and a handful of dried organic blueberries

Lunch: falafel plate with wheat pita @ Garbanzo's Mediterranean Grill (Romaine, hummus,
veggie salad, red cabbage, tabouleh, falafel, rice, and tzaziki sauce on top).

Snack: caffe mocha from Starbucks (got one free for V-Day).

Dinner - skipped b/c I was still full from lunch. The plate is huge and usually is two meals, but no, I scarfed it down all at once.

Right now I'm making some sort of lentil bean soup for the next few days - it's on the stove. I am missing all the normal veggie soup ingredients (celery, carrots, bay leaves, a can of diced tomatoes), so we'll see how this transforms!

Nice meals, Renee!

Ok, I ate food today. Not much, but I'm almost back to normal.

Br: berry smoothie
Lunch: 1 whole wheat pita with roasted pepper hummus and a tangelo.
Dinner: polenta with homemade creamy tomato sauce (like in the pic I posted). Delish.

Lots of water all day long. I was good about this.

I might have a snack later if I'm hungry in a few hours, and that will be either cottage cheese or a Curry Cocoa Pistachio bee bar from this local place in Boulder. So good.

Notice the lack of leafy greens? yeah, me, too. I need to go to the Whole Foods tomorrow.

Low on cals today, but I didn't do exercise aside from 2 gentle dog hikes - about 2 hrs total. It's snowing and was kind of cold, but it was a good stress relief for me.

I made my morning smoothie and that's it. It's almost 6pm. I'm just going to go to bed now and hopefully I feel human again in the morning.

I literally poisoned myself. I'm kind of incredulous about my body's reaction.

Renee, I'm pretty impressed that you always have just 1 glass of wine. I just don't keep it in the house because I'll drink half a bottle. If it's a good wine, I have a hard time having 1 glass and then by the 2nd glass, the 3rd is easier...

I'm feeling better, but not great. I made a pomegranate daiquiri when one of my besties called to talk about my mom - but I haven't eat anything today besides the breakfast smoothie and the guac and veggies. I am very bloated and feel gross.

Since i didn't go to boulder today, I'll have to go tomorrow, so even though I told everyone to get on my back about making me go to the gym, I need to go to town to get people food and pet food. :)

My food list will look more like a family of 4's food, too, once I'm feeling good and exercising again.

HAHA-no I knew you didn't eat enough because you were sick, but I just mean "Seriously, look at your list and look at mine." Mine looks like someone's weekly grocery list. LOL! Are you feeling any better now?

Oh - you misunderstand. I was not eating enough - that's why it's naughty. I got so sick from the pizza that I stopped making good meals. I try to get lots of fresh veggies and whole grains every day, and I didn't.

So it's not that I ate too much - in fact calorically I'm under even with the pizza. I just flaked out.

Well, don't really want to put in writing my food from yesterday since I had an abnormal evening which screwed everything up. Ahhh. However, I said I wanted to stay honest so here goes nothing:

Fri, Feb 10
Br- maple and brown sugar weight control instant oatmeal, small amount of blueberries, 1slice turkey bacon, coffee, Sk milk, sugar
Lu- quinoa made with low sodium chkn broth, garlic, onion, red pepper flakes,11 medium boiled shrimp, approx 3 oz grilled chkn breast , parm cheese,.5 lb roasted Brussels sprouts, .5 cup cot cheese, tbsp nat peanut butter
Snacks and dinner- pear, apple, peach, 15 almonds, kashi bar, nature valley fruit and nut bar, more quinoa, Brussels sprouts, 2 oz ground turkey, cheese stick, handful of whole wheat goldfish, couple slices of boar's head turkey

We left for the gymnastics meet at 4:30 and didn't get home until 12:30. Brought the snacks but forgot to put in the cold stuff to bring into my cooler bag, so ended up eating at 12:30 when we got home. Ugh.

OK, first of all, Ashley, you will see VERY quickly that I only have a few foods that I rotate through. I DO NOT cook, I HATE it actually, and my family suffers greatly because of it! LOL! Because my daughter was sick all day, I was eating soooo much from the stress of my stupid paranoia of getting sick myself. Took no photos because forgot everytime since I was so distracted. Maureen, your polenta and your salad look A-MAZ-ING!!!!

OK, here's today:
TH, Feb 9:

br- cranberry and almond oatmeal, 1 slice of low fat, low sodium turkey bacon, coffee, skim, sugar
sn- 15 almonds
lunch- Boar's Head low sodium turkey and roast beef sandwich on whole wheat with hummus, avocado, spinach, and tomato
1/2 cup 2% cottage cheese mixed with tsp of natural almond butter, less than 1 tsp of natural PB, little splenda (I LOVE THIS!)
sn- bosco pair, cheese stick, kashi banana/choc chip bar, and ANOTHER scoop of PB (AHHHHHH!)
dinner- cup lean ground turkey, approx 3/4 cup black beans, 1/2 chopped tomato, tbsp avocado, tbsp natural salsa (jarred, but LOW sodium), tbsp fat free mozzarella, Mrs. Dash Fiesta Lime seasoning
I always have another snack before bed- either popcorn, or yogurt with fruit, or cot cheese with fruit

TOOO much today. :(

Maureen, my salsa from last night is just Great Value brand from Walmart!!!! It is so good, too! It's called Peach Pineapple Chipotle Salsa, definitely has some kick and I put it on chicken, brown rice, black beans, my eggs, etc. LOTS of things. Ingredients listed: tomatoes, peaches, pineapples, fresh onions, fresh green bell peppers, tomato paste, water, sugar, vinegar, salt, chipotle peppers. That's it. For 2 tbsp it has 15 cal, 0 fat, 0 cholesterol, 105 mg (not bad for jarred), 75mg potassium, 4g carb, 3g sugar. The salsa I used tonight has like 10mg sodium for same serving. I love fresh salsa and pico de gallo, but if I don't have time or the ingredients (which is often!), it's a great fast go to!
