I have a potpourri crock pot (popular years ago) holds about a cup and a half.
I fill it with hot tap water, then add 3 whole cloves.

so do i and in the winter it heips the dry air
I occasionally throw some orange or lemon peels and cinnamon and clove into my crock pot with water and put it on the low setting. Makes the house smell so pretty !!!
