Wow I just got home from being admitted for two days with mastitis! The pills they gave me weren't working and I was suddenly getting worse. I'm better now just tired and still sore.

I have had the same issue with Harper. I think I am starting to dry up. I can't nearly produce enough for her. I just started to take Fenugreek. The pediatric nurse told me about it, it is supposed to help with the production of milk. I'll keep you guys posted as to how well it works.

Thanks for the support and commmiseration, B0GDANA. Glad Gunnar is doing well. And, yes, thank goodness for formula! Aja has been eating more and more. At this point, I'm happy with whatever milk I can give her and even happier if she 'pumps' it out herself (it's still hit or miss on that).

My hormones were really messing with me last night at the office holiday dinner. I kept going back and forth between shivering and sweating. I felt really light headed. My wonderful DH took care of Aja and let me sleep for solid blocks last night. I feel SOOO much better now.

In good news, as I was getting out of bed, I saw my calves/ankles/feet....and I didn't recognize them. They looked skinny! The edema finally went away. No more cankles!!!!!! I was able to slip into a pair of slippers that haven't fit in months. And I never did take the 'water pills' the doctor prescribed. I think getting out of the house and walking around a bunch yesterday really helped. Yay! I'm stoked!

I had a bad allergic reaction at Gunnar's birth and had to take massive doses of Benadryl which screwed up my milk coming in. He's a big boy and wants to eat constantly still so I'm still supplementing. No Matter how much I pump, breastfeed, and take galactagogues I cannot ever make enough for my sumo baby!! So don't feel bad abot supplementing with formula. I'm glad it's around for us to have! He's 14 lbs 24 inches and only 7 weeks old this coming Tuesday if that gives you an idea!!

Starting to get the hang of things, finally. It's been almost two weeks since Aja took us by surprise. I am still healing, but starting to get around better. I can get reasonably comfortable in my own bed again, as long as I prop myself up. The swelling in my legs has gone down a lot, so I can now squat down to get things again. My ankles and feet still get swollen and I still have carpal tunnel in my hands, esp. my right hand -- my middle finger still feels like it's asleep. Saw doctor yesterday and he said all that is normal and will go away within 2-3 weeks. He said my incision is healing well.

DH took me to the salon to get my hair trimmed and styled today. It looks nice. Salon is at a mall, so we walked around and had lunch at the food court with Aja in the stroller. It was nice to get out. I was hoping to get a pedicure today, too (at different place), but there was not enough time. Maybe tomorrow. Going to my office holiday party tonight. We're a really small office, so it will just be maybe a 12-15 of us at my boss' country club for the buffet dinner there. It'll be nice. They are excited to meet Aja. Pediatrician said it's OK for her to be out and about as long as people don't touch her face and hands and wash their hands well before touching her at all. DH took me to my polymer clay guild meeting last night for half of it -- it was their annual gift exchange and potluck. The guild members there fawned over Aja (without touching!) and loved her. Even got two offers to babysit (yay!).

Started wearing the abdominal binder the discharge doc at the hospital ordered for me. I didn't wear it before because it was uncomfortable pressing on my sensitive belly. My OB/GYN said at my appointment yesterday that I should wear it, so I'm giving it another try while I'm home. I still don't feel like wearing it out. I guess it helps.

Getting better at the breastfeeding. Still not all the way there, but at least Aja is latching on the majority of the time and staying on for more than a few minute at a time. Am also pumping. Still not meeting all of her needs, so supplementing with formula, but it's getting better! It's hard b/c she was in NICU and I was out of it for the first week of her life, so we started off behind and its harder to catch up, but we're making progress!

It has been a very rough and emotional week for me. First the good news: Aja Josephine Acosta was born November 25, 2012 at 10:24 pm. She was 6 lbs 4 oz and 20 inches long. She's still in the NICU until tomorrow, but is doing well and is (of course) super cute. I'll upload a photo and change my profile pic soon.

The rough part: I posted on Sat that I thought the trickle was not amniotic fluid. I was wrong! I'll put the rest of the details in the birth story thread. The amniotic fluid was only one of the complications--the other was worse. So much for an easy natural birth! But everything is ending up fine, if a little more...um...exciting than planned for.

How's everyone doing out there? It's been very quiet these last couple weeks!

My last day at work was Wednesday. I don't go back until late February. Yay! I feel so huge and still have some last minute baby thing to buy and still need to set up the nursery and get the baby seats installed. DH and I picked up my new car Tuesday night. I'm so relieved it arrived before Thanksgiving. We're going to install the baby seat bases in both our cars this week and get them inspected. We shopped around yesterday for a rug for the nursery area of our bedroom and found one we'll probably end up buying. We need a rug with a little texture to keep the glider and ottoman from sliding around - it slid when DH was about to get off of it a couple weeks ago and he ended up falling on his tailbone and hurting his back. Not good!

We had a little freakout last night. I felt leaking and couldn't tell if it was urine or amniotic fluid (sorry if TMI). After a searching online and waiting it out a bit (and starting to pack bags for the hospital, just in case), I'm 95% sure that it was the baby dropping and squishing the heck out of my bladder. Time to go buy some bigger pads! Oy! One more annoyance to add to the swollen ankles, feet, and hands, the numb fingers, and the increasingly frequent B-H contractions. Only 18 more days to go until her due date!!

3-1/2 weks to go for me! How are all you mama's doing out there?

The temps have finally cooled down here. It's even raining today! I'm slowing down, but thankfully I start maternity leave next week. My last day at work is Wed. I can't wait! My new car finally came in --we're picking it up Tuesday after work. I was worried baby would get here before the car. My current car is NOT good baby seats - two door, small back seat. The new one is 5-door hatchback with the latch system for seats. Much safer and more comfortable (and better gas mileage, too!) So exited (except for having car payments now --old car was long paid off)!

DH & I went to an all-day childbirth prep class. We both thought it was helpful. We both broke into tears during a video when it showed a baby being born and placed on mommy's chest. We are going to be a sobbing (but happy!) mess when our own little one comes. :P

In the elevator going home yesterday, a pregnant woman got on the next floor down and asked my due date. Turns out we're both due the same day 12/12/12 :) And I found out last week the other pregnant woman on my floor is due 12/15.

Been feeling tired and behind on everything this week. I'm SOOO ready for my maternity leave to start, but that won't happen until Thanksgiving. I get tired so easy now. And my brain is working half-time. My belly is huge - a couple of my maternity blouses don't cover the bottom of my bump that well anymore. My carpal tunnel has been getting worse. My finger tips are almost always numb now. I'm constantly dropping things and it's harder to type and write. I started writing thank you cards for my shower gifts, but could only finish half before my hands just ached too much. My writing is sloppier than normal, too, b/c I can't grip the pen well. I'd have DH do it, but his writing is even worse than my sloppy writing!

My ankles swell everyday, too. It might be a little better if only the temperatures would drop. At least then it wouldn't be too darn hot to wear compression stockings. It was over 90 degrees here yesterday! WTF? It's November, darn it!

Congratulations, B0GDANA!!! And welcome to baby Gunnar!

I went ahead and got the flu shot. Felt a little dizzy the next day, like I was coming down with something, but that was the only side effect.

I just had my baby and I got my shot after the birth. It didn't do anything to me no fever or anything.
By the way- I HAD MY BABY! Gunnar was born 0652 10/23 8 lb 20 inches and 11 days early via induction. Only got a few stitches! Couldn't believe I pushed him out. So glad I got an epidural!! We induced early due to low amniotic fluid - can you imagine how big he'd be if I made it to 40 weeks.

Have any of you gotten flu shots this year? I asked my OB/GYN last appt if I should get one. He said yes, because it can keep mom from getting sick. When I asked about side effects (I've gotten a fever from flu shots before), he said it shouldn't be a big deal, but also said that if I didn't want one, that was OK, too b/c the flu shots only really cover the previous year's flu strains and aren't always good at protecting from new strains. So, not really a straight answer from him.

What are your opinions on them? Are they worth the side effects? I've only gotten maybe two flu shots in the last 20 or so years. I haven't gotten the flu bad since high school, only a mild fever a couple times. I'm not sure I want to risk getting a fever from the shot when I so rarely get the flu and don't really plan on being around a lot of crowds. On the other hand, I would hate for this winter to be the one time I get sick and to not have gotten the shot. Plus, the immunization is supposed to carry over to baby as well. I have another appointment tomorrow morning and and thinking of going to the walk-in flu shot clinic afterwards while I'm there (it's just one floor down).

pumpkin your size really has little to do with how big your baby is so I wouldn't let thos peopel get you too worried. My cousin was huge she looked like she was going to pop from 6mo on and her son was just under 7lbs and like I said I carried super small with both my kids and my older daughter was a very normal and healthy 7lbs 12oz and youngest was 7lbs 3oz so if we can be such different sizes and have babies close to the same size I think that just goes to prove the theory of weight and shape of mom having little to do with that of baby :)

Hi, thanks all for reassuring comments. I think me being so paranoid about this has a lot to do with being so concious about my body in general, but it is to time to change those thoughts so that I can raise the little one to be proud, not ashamed, of his/her body!

B0GDANA: I am glad that your 3rd trimester has been better, let's hope that the delivery will be easy too :)!

PUMPKINPHD: Isn't it annoying when total strangers think that they are experts and can tell you all kinds of things, just because you are pregnant....And our baby is going to have his/her own corner as well and stay there until we'll find a bigger place :).

CINDYSIOUX: I totally agree about the pregnancy clothes. I thought that finally I will find some nice clothes, but no, there is only little more space for the bump but no extra space for example for those ever growing boobs.....If you get into the t-shirt business, let me know, I'll be a customer!

ERIKA; thanks for your reassuring words!

If you walk, just walk. If you sit, just sit; but whatever you do, dont wobble.

I've been very fortunate in this last trimester! The first Two were very hard on me. Now my only problems are back spasms and the constant kicking In the same places so I'm sore all the time, but its totally manageable. No foot swelling, andmy weight gain has been surprisingly appropriate. I figured being over 30 and never particularly thin was going to doom me to rapid weight gain but some how I avoided it hallelujah. I have an ultrasound Monday and its almost time for baby!! I'm so excited!

Oh and ps: within the course of an hour at work, I had one person tell me how I look too small, and another ask if I'm having twins; so it's all in the eye of the beholder haha

I'm very petite (4'11"), so I started showing early and have been big ever since. I'm only 7 months now, but people (incl. lots of strangers) keep thinking I'm due any day now. It was cool at first to look farther along, but now it's getting annoying that people, when they find out I'm not 9 months along, keep asking if I'm having twins or saying how huge a baby she's going to be (with at least one person commenting that I'm going to need a C-section b/c she'll be so big -- I HOPE NOT! I would like to give birth vaginally, if safely possible. Oy!).

My baby shower was nice. My friend who hosted did an awesome job with decorations and running things. We had a nice selection of yummy food. It was a smaller group than we were expecting based on RSVPs, but it worked out b/c there were just enough chairs. If any more had shown up, they would've had to stand. It was nice to have my mom there--she flew in just for the day. Hopefully, she'll come back and join us at Thanksgiving at my aunt's (her sister). Got some nice gifts and made a dent in our registry. Now, we just need to clean out the area where baby is going to be. She'll have a corner of our bedroom for the first few months. By then, I should have my office/craft workshop cleared out to use as baby's own room.

EBERKSHIRE86 I understand your pain w/ regards to not showing, I am a big girl over 300#, this is my first child but I will never look pregnant. People who know have noticed there is a change in the way my belly is shaped but from the view point of the average stranger this fatty is just getting fatter, Oh well thank God for Stretch pants which is the other issue I have the do not make prego pants for fat chicks b/c only thin ppl get pregnant...lol oh well I am in no way complaining I am so over joyed! I need a shirt that says I am not fat, I'm pregnant (&fat) ..lol :-)

Beaconsparkle-don't stress everyones belly grows at a different rate and how much your showing depends largely on babies position as well if they are facing out towards your stomach your not going to show as much as if they are facing in with their back out also depends on how high or low they are also depends on what your weight is. I carried small with both my girls I probably only looked about 6mo along when I was 9mo it was very annoying no one could even tell I was pregnant up until the very end so I got alot of stares from people trying to figure out if I was pregnant or just fat but not wanting to ask lol I think whether you think your carrying too big or too small you always want the opposite of what you are :)

Cindy ugh I do not miss that at all! I hated the feel like Im going to barf everytime I bend feeling it was horrible lol

it has started, the invasion! I keep getting asked this by other moms "has the baby started to invade your body?" My answer has been no until this week. I noticed the other day when I bent over at the waist, while sitting. I nearly threw up b/c rather than my innards moving around to accommodate my movement this hard thing inside of me just shoves my guts up into my chest and today while hanging clothes in the closet, I noticed I was breathing hard, no stress no strain just a full belly just had lunch and a glass of water and I was all breathing like I was running. anyone else?

Hi, thanks for your replies about the shower. I think it is such a lovely tradition!

Actually, when my friends planned my bachelorette party, they asked my husband about if they missed someone from the invitation list. My HB left that e-mail accidentally open on our shared computer.... But there were no details about the party and they REALLY suprised me with it, as we got married in December and the party was already in August emoticon !

I'm feeling little better and really starting to show already. I am stressing about my tummy a lot, thinking that is is too big for my weeks (17+3) and then somedays I am sure that I have not grown at all and worry about that.... I am really lookign forward to the scan in couple of weeks and feeling the baby move, which ever comes first.

I hope you are all having a good time and feeling ok!

I helped plan my shower with my first I hate suprises lol plus I wanted to make sure that everyone got included since my mom was throwing it and didn't know everyone that I work with or am friends with I gave her a list and even handed out some of the invitations myself :)

Thats funny about the accidental email :)

Hi BeaconSparkle! Usually showers are held in the third trimester (late enough that mom-to-be looks really pregnant, but not so late that it's too close the due date). A lot of them are a surprise or at least with not much planning by the mom. My friend who is hosting doesn't know a lot of my other friends, so needed me to do a guest list. She also has asked for my input on a lot of things. Since she doesn't know a lot of my other friends, she hasn't felt comfortable asking for their help, and would do most of it herself if I didn't step in help with some stuff. So, yeah, I'm more involved than is typical.

My polymer clay guild is also throwing me a shower. I think that one was supposed to be a surprise, but the person was taking meeting notes left a mention of it in there (I had gotten there late and so hadn't heard their discussion of it). And then the organizer accidentally included me on a group e-mail about my shower gift. She immediately realized her mistake and sent another e-mail to me saying to ignore & delete the last one, but I had already read part of it before I realized. Oops! She also said to pretend to act surprised. :-P

Hi all! Have been feeling a little sick lately (nothing new), so I have not been so active here in SP lately. But I try to be better in the future and be more active!

PUMPKINPHD: How annoying about the U/S, but as you said, what can you do....A friend of mine had her U/S done by a nurse, who had just graduated. At first she was not even able to locate the uterus....... It is like a flight captain not able to locate the sky... But everyone has to have a first day at a job and somebody has to be that first patient...

About baby showers: I live in Finland and showers are not a big thing here. We threw one for a friend of mine, but it was more about the cake (and the wine for the rest of us :) than the gifts. But normally it is not a common thing, families usually get some presents at the christening/name seremony, but even then the gifts are more symbolic than actual usable stuff...But, I love parties and get-togethers, I might throw one for myself just for the fun of it :)!
emoticon emoticon
From movies and tv-shows I've gotten the idea that the shower is usually a suprise for the mom-to-be. How common it is that the moms participate in the planning? And at what stage it usually takes place, I mean how far along the pregnancy usually is?

Had an ultrasound yesterday. The tech was new and forgot to measure amniotic fluid. She called as I was already half way to work (already 30 mins on the road) and asked if I could come back. I was not about to turn around at that point. I ended up going back this morning instead and being a little late to work again. So I just skipped my lunch hour again. Annoying, but what can you do. At least all my measurements were normal. And baby is right on schedule for her due date of 12/12/12. Next appointment is Wednesday with my OB/GYN.

Getting together with my best friend tonight to plan my shower. We've got a theme (Lil' Pumpkin/Autumn) and games picked out. She's sent out all the e-vites. But that's about as much as we've done and the shower is next Sunday, 14th. I'm trying to help out as much as possible (and pay for most of it) because I know my friend is very busy and on a tight budget right now. Her daughter is helping, too, and I've recruited a couple other friends to bring food. My friend loves to party plan and decorate, so it should all come together fine. Are any of you having a shower soon? What will be/was your theme?

@B0GDANA - I have the same unspoken mutual agreement with a pregnant woman who works in another office on my floor. We've shared an elevator several times and pass each other in the hall about once a week, but neither of us have said a word about pregnancy (or much else except 'hi' and 'have a nice day,' for that matter). I get plenty of questions and comments every day from others in the building and I'm sure she does, too.

I feel ya, I constantly get asked those questions too. Now I keep getting asked when is that baby coming, or how do you feel, anything changed. I'm tired of gettting asked those....I'm like I'll let ya know if things change. Still no baby :(, but I am dilated more and she thinks it will be in the next couple days!!

I'm still working too and it is a pain in the butt being in your feet all day but I am lucky I am not having any swelling issues in my feet!
Since I work kn an ER I have at least 10 strangers ask me the same three questions every day I work and it got old fast. Are you expecting? When are you due? Do you know what you're having? I'm not trying to be ungrateful but I'm totally tired of answering these questions lol. I had one patient's mother today who was clearly pregnant- and neither one of us asked each other about it! It was mutual agreement not to bring it up hahahaha

Wow, you're working up to the last minute! And at a job where you're on your feet! I feel for you. Hang in there!

My little one is moving around like crazy today. Feels like she's pushing hard in every direction. My belly has been undulating and pulsing practically non-stop much of the day. Guess she's making up for being fairly quiet the last couple of days. It's sort of comforting, but also very distracting.

I'm going in for another ultrasound on Thursday, just to check baby's growth since I'm "high risk" due to my age. Seems like she's ahead of schedule size-wise, just judging by my humongous belly. Went to a belly dance event yesterday and had probably a dozen or more people comment on how I looked like I was nine months along instead of a week shy of seven months, asking if I was carrying twins, commenting on what a big baby she'll be (I hope not!). I was pretty tired of that line of conversation by the end of the day.

So,I have 2 days till my little one is suppsed to be here. Guess she is just very comfortable...either that or stubborn lol. They have set a date to induce me for the 8th at 8pm. I'm really hoping I have her before that. My feet have been consistently swollen for a few weeks now, and I have to stand at work. emoticon . How is everyone else?

The appointment went well. I'm still dilated the same, but I'm 70% effaced now. Doc seems to think everything is fine. They set a day to induce me, but they won't do it till the 8th of Oct. I really hope I don't have to go till then. I'm sure I will be miserable if I have to wait that long. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be in the next few days!

Hang in there, Unatainable! You're so close to holding your little one! How did your drs appointment go?

DH and I spent some time in the Bay Area for my 25th HS reunion. Most of our time was spent visiting our parents. DH's brother went back to the hospital the day we arrived, but is doing better now. I think he came home today. The reunion was fun--very casual. We took over the back patio of a bar owned by an alumnus. It was nice to see everyone. Many classmates shared how great it is to be a parent and several shared their experiences with fertility issues & treatments and such. You just don't think about how common all that is b/c it seems taboo to talk about it (probably because it can be so emotionally draining). One classmate's wife had several miscarriages and are in the process of adopting. So I'm not the only soon-to-be first-time parent in our class :) All in all, a nice visit, but tiring trying to cram in as many visits as possible with relatives & friends.

I've been having indigestion and acid reflux a lot. I didn't sleep much our whole trip because of it. Sleeping with my head propped way up has helped. I was also really craving ice chips. Friends told me it was a sign of iron deficiency. I had been taking a multi-vitamin with iron, but switched to prenatal gummies with no iron about a month ago. I started taking iron supplements and the craving has eased a bit, but now I'm more constipated (ugh!) I still have carpal tunnel, but my feet haven't been getting swollen, thank goodness.

My feet were very swollen most of last week. It also hurts to walk. Does anyone else have problems with it hurting in the pelvic area when they move? The doctor told me it is probably just separating. It makes it very uncomfortable to walk and move at night in the bed. Have another doc appointment tom, hope there is more news for me!

Good luck, Unatainable! You're so close!

My hands have been really achy the last couple of days and I haven't been sleeping all that well. Otherwise, everything's been good. I kept up with a fast, tiring dance class last night--I was pooped afterwards, but proud of myself. Had a checkup with my OB/GYN today. His response when my DH asked if my weight gain was on track was a little bit of a downer, but nothing bad (basically he hinted I was gaining a little much, but said not to worry about it b/c everything else is good -- more details in my post on the Doctor visits thread).

Looking forward to going to the Bay Area on Thurs to see our family & for my 25th(!) HS reunion. Temps will be MUCH lower -- highs in the upper 60s instead of the upper 90s like its been here the last two months. I might actually get *cold* for a change. I've forgotten what that's like! :P

Thanks, PUMPKINPHD.

I haven't posted in any exercise threads, but I work out almost every day. I hit the gym at least 5x a week and am active the other 2 days. I usually do a minimum of 30-45 minutes of cardio and I do weight training at least 2-3x a week. I haven't changed my workouts hardly at all other than decreasing the intensity somewhat--being sure that I can carry on a conversation. I generally go pretty hard on weights too, so I am trying to tell myself to lighten up a bit on those:)

I don't want to post my due date until my first appt next Tues. I just feel weird about it after my MC in December.

Thanks again for responding! :)

Welcome, GIGERNREZNOR! The latest due date on the "Due Date List" thread is February (sadly AngelWendy's LO, who was due in April, did not make it :( ) Doesn't mean there aren't others in this group who are still in their first trimester, though. Maybe seeing your post will encourage others to post, too. You can always post in the exercise thread - we should *all* be doing that no matter how far along (unless you're on doctor ordered bed rest). Also, if you've got any questions or things you were wondering about, please post on the Questions/Concerns thread and those of us farther along will try to help and share our experiences.

In any case, glad to have you with us, and I look forward to seeing more posts from you as your pregnancy progresses!

Hi there! Is anyone in this group NOT at nearly full term? I'm curious how many are in their first trimester on here? I'm only 8 1/2 weeks, so not much to really share at this point and that's why I haven't posted anything.

Glad to see everyone checking in! I was getting lonely

@eberkshire -- Congrats on losing the baby weight so fast! Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Bummer on having to go back to work already.

@unatainable -- Wow, you're so close! Exciting! Keep up posting how things go

@b0gdana -- Glad you're feeling better. You're so lucky you haven't gotten swollen ankles/feet. Mine have been swollen pretty at some point of pretty much every day. My hands & wrists, too. I've started wearing my rings on a chain around my neck b/c I can't get them past my knuckles anymore. Hang in there at work. Feel free to come here and vent away about it.

I've been doing pretty well. I'm at 27 weeks as of today - hard to believe its my third trimester already! Been slacking a bit on the exercise thanks to swollen feet, but managed to keep up in my dance class last night. Hadn't gone the last two weeks & didn't think I'd do well, but it wasn't bad. I'm thinking of going to my old teacher's beginner class on Thursday, just to move (and to see her). Usually the beginner class is too slow and boring for me, but it's probably just my speed now. DH & I finally got around to filling in the baby registry this week. Still have lots of smaller items to add, but got most of the big things selected.

Almost done compiling a guest list for my friend who is hosting my shower. Hard to decide whether to bother sending invites to out-of-town aunts & cousins. I doubt they'd travel so far and I don't want it to seem like I'm prowling for gifts, but I don't want them to feel snubbed either. Also hard to decide which local friends to invite - I know a lot of people, but some are more like acquaintances even though I see them at dance class or other events regularly. And I want to keep the number of attendees down to 20-25, but it's hard when I see a friend who asks about the shower and acquaintances are right there, too. I try to deflect the topic to later so as not to offend anyone who might not get invited. I suspect my polymer clay guild is going to do something for me b/c a couple of members asked at this month's meeting if I would be at the November one and hinted that it was important I be there....hmmmm

Hanging in there at 32 weeks! My muscle strain is all better and now I walk normally (well for a preggo). There has been one good thing do far- sill got my ankles- water weight hasn't become any issue. The only symptom of pregnancy I haven't acquired lol!
I've been severely hating work lately so that will make it even easier to take my time off. To think at one point I thought I would miss it! Hah!

Got a really late start to the Fair yesterday, which was just as well b/c we missed the worst of the heat. It got up to 98! Started off in with a couple air conditioned buildings and by the time we were done, it had started to cool down. All three of the crafts I submitted to the competitions won some sort of ribbon--YAY! We actually saw a decent amount of the fair, but my feet and legs were killing me by the end of the night. My ankle started hurting kinda bad. It's a little better today, now that I've rested it.

I've developed pregnancy-related carpal tunnel in my left hand this last week. It's been really hurting the last couple days, so DH took me out to get a wrist sprint today. I'll wear it to sleep every night & see if that helps.

Did you all have a good holiday weekend?

What are everyone's plans for Labor Day Weekend? I'm going to a henna party tomorrow. Host is supplying henna and we will all draw on each other. I wanna get a pretty pattern on my belly!

Sunday, DH and I are going to the L.A. County Fair with friends. It's supposed to be in the 90s all weekend, so I'm planning to bring a small spray bottle of water and wear one of those cooling bandanas around my neck so I don't overheat. The LA Fair is huge and we usually do a ton of walking, but this year, I'll have to take it easy. Luckily, people are pretty nice about giving up seats to pregnant ladies :) Will probably have to only see part of the fair, maybe come back another day. I submitted a few crafts to the fair competitions (a gourd art purse and a couple polymer clay jewelry sets), so I'm excited to see if I won any ribbons this year. Even if no ribbons, it's fun to see my work displayed there.

Still worried about my BIL. He is home from the hospital, but has some kind of chemo or dialysis or doctor appointments pretty much every day. Hopefully, he will respond well to the treatments. Too soon to tell at this point. MIL is very stressed and keeps sending down-sounding e-mails and IMs, but when you talk to her on the phone, she tries to make it sound like things are going OK. DH has been very stressed, too. Having to spend money on a new garage door this week didn't help (our old one ripped from the wall and broke!) Having to decide on what brand of baby stroller, car seat, etc. so we can get our registry up before the baby shower is just adding to the stress, but he wants to be a part of the decisions. Sigh. We'll get through this.

I have 5 weeks till my due date, and a doctor's appointment tom. My mom has been calling me mutliple times a day to check on me, she is convinced I could go anytime with our family history (everyone delivers at least 2- 6 weeks early). I can't wait to meet my sweet girl, but I hope I still have a couple of weeks left...there is still plenty I need to do : /

The baby's room is done and I've been going to physical therapy for that hip/butt injury and it's getting much better. Helps that I'm not at work!

Not much more news on my BIL. Still don't know the extent of his bone cancer. They put him on some sort of meds, but no guarantee how well he'll react to them. Details are still sketchy from my in-laws and DH still hasn't been able to talk directly to his brother. Needless to say DH is very frustrated and stressed. DH is going to go up there early next week to find out for himself what's going on (too many meetings this week).

In the meantime, I may have to get a new car sooner than we were hoping. My 'check engine' light went on again & our mechanic had warned that my engine would need to be replaced soon. It's still running OK for now, but we're planning to test drive & maybe buy something this weekend. My current car isn't good for baby seats anyways.

On the bright side, I saw my OB-GYN on Friday and he said everything looks good. He commented that I look big for only 5.5 months, but acknowledged that my having a really short torso would account for that. Had an ultrasound on Tuesday and the tech said baby is measuring about 5 days ahead, but that the original due date is still typically the best. So baby may decide to come out early. Or not. Got a cute picture of her foot and one of her face. She was moving around a lot!

How are you all doing? It's quiet on this board!

I'm feeling very stressed today. Just found out that DH's brother has bone cancer. Apparently, doctors are saying its treatable, but DH and I don't know any details. I'm concerned because my BIL has been in and out of the hospital for the past two weeks. He went in originally with bad asthma (something he hadn't really suffered from before) which caused him to crack a couple ribs from coughing. Then he was back a week later with kidney failure. They found the bone cancer while he was in for that. No idea how far it has spread or anything. We're 400 miles away, so have only been getting updates from DH's parents. They never seem to know any details and give conflicting stories, so I'm not sure what to believe. DH and I are considering going up there this weekend, but in-laws are telling us not to, that I shouldn't be travelling (we'd drive and can make stops where needed). We were already planning to go up there next month for my HS reunion, so if BIL is not too serious, maybe we can wait. Still, the whole situation is worrisome and I'd feel better if I knew more details about what's going on.

It's 2:30 am and I'm having trouble sleeping due to heartburn. Tums didn't help at all. Back is aching, too. I'm thinking I might call in sick and catch up on sleep, especially since I didn't sleep well last night either (couldn't get comfortable) and was really draggy all day. I hate to use up my sick days now, though, b/c I feel like I'll need them more the farther along I am. But, then again, DH is out of town for a few days, so I might be able to catch up on stuff I need to do around the house once I get enough rest.

Wow, that's a lot hours worked in a short time. Glad you are getting some rest, even if it means you'll have less time off later. Gotta take care of yourself and baby.emoticon

I worked 10hr shifts weds thurs, 4 hr fri and 10 hr sat, went in for 10 hr Sunday and couldnt do it because of the pain. I cried several times from pain yes but mostly out of frustration. I've got 10.5 weeks to go and I can't go out yet! Since I work in the ER and I looked bad they made me clock out and check in. I got vicodin and real pain relief for the first time in weeks. Hubby came and got me and took me home. Today my OB wants me to start physical therapy. luckily I got my 1st appt tomorrow. She's also having me take off 10 days to rest. I'm praying the Therapy makes a big difference in 10 days so I can work again. It's not so much the pay as I want my time off when the baby is OUT not in. But I've been fighting this for three weeks and it's just not healing! (hip/butt muscle injury with possible sciatica involvement) ok I'm done whining. Just feeling so down!

@Angel -- there's already a Tips forum. It's called "I wish someone would have told me...." When I get a chance, I'll copy and paste some of the tips mentioned here.

And I wish I was getting full medical! My company only pays 30% of my premiums, but they will continue that. And with the pay, I'll still be able to cover my portion.

Off to buy some compression stockings tomorrow. I've had swollen feet & ankles all week. They aren't horrible, but I don't want them to get worse.
