My test results showed that my A1C is down another 2/10 of a percent for a total of 8/10 of a percent. I'm hoping for at least another 2/10 with my next test.

Check at your local hospital or clinic, also. There are free education classes now and then for diabetes management. I have my A1C test in the morning. That will be three months after diagnosis. I'll let you know how it goes.

Well that's the thing, I have no insurance. Which is why this whole process has freaked me out a good bit. But I'm seeing now that there's still some help out there even with no insurance. I will certainly look into the classes. It may make me feel more secure in what I'm doing to get this under control. Thanks for the help. :)

My insurance pays for all diabetes education. It covers 100% of the cost. You could see what your insurance covers for extra assistance.

I don't see my primary doctor until Monday. But I found a place here called DESAP that gave me a free meter, lancets and 50 test strips and they gave us pamphlets and they offer educational classes for free. We are thinking about trying to take some.

My A1C was 7 when I was diagnosed. With exercise, following your diabetic meal plan, and taking, if any, your medications it will help to lower that number.
Has your doctor recommended diabetes education classes?

When I found out Sunday that I have diabetes, my A1C was 7.8. Don't know if you can tell a lot about it though since my diabetes has gone untreated for quite a while. All this is still new to me lol.

I got the results of my A1C and it was 6.2. My doctor was very happy with that after all the difficulties I had with my sugar after my surgery.

ANGLUS_QUINN - that is an amazing A1C! There are always going to be times and circumstances that make it vary, but you are doing great! Erin

My last check it was 5.8. I think it's going to go up, because after I had surgery my sugar was high for a while.

What is your A1C? Mine was 6.1 last time I was in. I am going back next month. I think everyone should know their A1C and really strive for that 7 (which is ideal) or below but not too low. Erin

The A1C test is a common blood test used to diagnose type 1 and type 2 diabetes and then to gauge how well you're managing your diabetes. The A1C test goes by many other names, including glycated hemoglobin, glycosylated hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C and HbA1c.
The A1C test result reflects your average blood sugar level for the past two to three months. Specifically, the A1C test measures what percentage of your hemoglobin — a protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen — is coated with sugar (glycated). The higher your A1C level, the poorer your blood sugar control. And if you have previously diagnosed diabetes, the higher the A1C level, the higher your risk of diabetes complications.
