Yes it was a mixed day of emotions yesterday with terrible news from Boston
. But I had good help from two nice young men who helped start our container garden.
From tiny seeds great oaks grow, Not as I want great oak in front of apartment ! ! But the word crops up a lot lately . Seeds of doubt, of hope and I am trying concentrate on the latter.
Thanks Fran for the seedlings goodie
Have a good day where ever you are. Irene. emoticon

Irene that sounds like fun to have a garden and young men to help you. glad you are getting some help around the house.
Another sad day here in the USA praying for those in the hospital and those who lost their life at an event that should have been fun and full of special memories not sad ones and for all the families who are suffering from this attack on the city of Boston and the United States. It was a cold windy day here so I did my training in the gym. on the treadmill 3 .12 miles in 61 miles did add some hills to the setting. searched for some quotes for the quote of the day and tried working on a craft project going slow.

Hi on Tuesday , I have enrolled some helpers today. It is my house cleaners morning anyway so I can leave house work to them,
We a hoping to start up a patio garden . No garden here but we do have a paved area that is quite private ,So we are buying pots and tubs to make a container garden .i definitely want to grow fresh herbs in a part or two.
We are acquainted with some Mormon missionaries, nice your men who want to help us. They have to do some community work so they are coming here to help put pots in places fill with compost , and general tidying up. I have grandsons older than them, they call me their adopted nan. One is from Utah, ones English . Have a good day. Irene emoticon

Hi on Monday I always think of Mondays as a fresh start. I have many!
Nice clean carpet now and that's led to more general sorting out in the living room . As well as decluttering! I am pleased with the new look room but that's s just one room!
But I am trying to stay calm and deal with one thing at a time . I am just having coffee and mentally planning
in what order to do chores and extras this morning . I hope to get to my craft group this afternoon, , best wishes Irene emoticon

Hi Team emoticon
@Irene-I am so sorry you had to wait for the cleaners to come. But I'm sure it looks and smells great today! Sounds as if your patience are being tested.LOL
@Fran-I can't wait to hear what you think about your starter project.
I have had a busy weekend and enjoying my relax time this morning trying to catch up on spark.I thought weekends were suppose to be my time off work but It seems if I have to go back to work to get a break.LOL.Not really......I sooooooo.....enjoy my weekends off and look forward to each and every one of them!I have made it to the gym the past 2 days late in the evening (well, more like at night, 8pm) but at least I made it.This is a big change for me because I'm usually settled down and ready for bed by 9 every night. I've just finally made my mind up to make the necessary "lifestyle" changes and have been busy all day so didn't have a chance to go until late but knew I must!!! I do think I have slept better the past 2 nights than normal.I wonder if this has anything to do with it?
Wishing you all a relaxing, happy, healthy day emoticon

Fran, i am sure you can do the cross stitch . The starters are usually on very big count material. i started in 11 holes to the inch , now i prefer 14 or 6 . It depends on your sight. You can gradually work out what's beat for you.

To all. The carpet cleaner came late yesterday afternoon, . I had given up by then . It's a small apartment so when the living area was out of action we headed to the bedroom and sat on the bed reading! Then it was late before I got the room straight and could settle down,
Why do things seldom to plan? It is. one of the mysteries of life. Hope today is a calmer day. Irene I do lot of emoticon lately

Sorry I am checking in so late today . It was a busy Sat. up and out of the house by 8 AM To go to the Bloomsday training clinic today I did 4 miles all up hill and flat we did have a few down hill spots but mostly up it took me 1 hour 40 minutes . very windy almost lot my hat ! so clod and windy you even needed gloves ! next weeks plan is five miles but again mostly hilly might just do the 4 and see if can improve my time. then of the do a few errands . lunch and then home to finish putting the living room back together. and some laundry done. did lunch and sat down for a power nap 20 minutes emoticon which turned into a hour and half. so now sparking and then time to plan next weeks meals and fix dinner to nite. found a 4 disc set of Doris Day Movies for 6.00 dollars emoticon so move night starting with Please Don't Eat The Daisy's. working on figuring out how to start my simple cross stitch according to the package says if you can count to four you can do . wondering if its like the directions that so so simple a child can do it. hope everyone had a Sparky Day.

Irene Sorry you rug cleaners did not show up emoticon how up setting anxious to hear how things turn out . know what a job it is to get everything out of the living room emoticon

Fran. I am waiting for the clean carpet smell!
i had booked carpet cleaners to come on Friday, , we moved a lot of stuff out were waiting and waiting but they never came. No answer to my phone calls. So will they come today? It's unsettling just hanging a round waiting and I what to get the living area back to normal.
I like normal ! Irene emoticon

Good Morning Team:)
Just checking in....hoping you all have a happy healthy day. I had a rough day yesterday, actually came home from work early not feeling well. I over did it Wednesday with 6.5 hours of work then 3 hrs. of yard work.I am going to have to learn my limits and let things go instead of doing it all at once. I was feeling so much better on Wednesday that I didn't want to quit going.
@Fran- I hope you got everything back in place yesterday. I've never used a professional carpet cleaner, I bet it does look and smell great. I Have two small daushand dogs that live inside along with a 5 year old that are all in and out so I bought a carpet cleaner and clean carpets every 2-3 months. And I get just as excited every time my floors are clean for a few weeks.LOL emoticon .
I do plan on a trip to the gym this evening after work, I missed not going for 2 days after going the first 2 days of the week..I think I could possibly become addicted to the gym.
Gotta get ready for work....I'll check in later.

Yesterday I had a super day in Nottingham I really went to be fitted for a bra. I never did get to do that but it is a good excuse for another time! I did buy some perfume which entitled me to a make up bag full of make up products free, I like a bargain . We had good lunch out Spanish food. Then I found a good place to have my nails done. They do all sorts of things so I hope to make it my Regular salon but for now I had my nails done purple, it is a bit different for me but will match the clothes and ring I plan to wear on Saturday at a big anniversary party or friends
I enjoyed my girlie day out , Irene emoticon

Hi team:)
Day 2 at the gym went well.added an extra 10 minutes.but am a bit sore this morning.its a good sore .....better than hurting in my hips and back though.I also came home after work and gym and me and DH planted the first 8 tomatoe plants (love my southern weather!) then cleaned off fence.Already looking forward to my "after work" activities today.
@Fran,I love both of your ideas about water intake and what makes you smile emoticon (makes me think happy thoughts).
Have a happy,healthy day all!

Fran, you can call me by my name if you would like, Tammie:)
and cross stitch is not hard to learn its just very time consuming and takes lots of patience! I have only done the counted cross stitch,(small projects) it is a bit easier I would think. My grandmother use to cross stitch alot after she retired and made a cross stitch comforter for me and my two sisters before she passed away. This would tie up my hands from doing late evening snacking. The idea is sounding even better with that thought.

Good Morning Team:)

Today I am making some changes.......I Will Not let life get the best of me. After all, "life is what we make of it" right?

emoticon on your new leadership Irene.
I love the idea of the handicrafts thread! I have always been a crafty person but have put this part of myself on the back burner for well over two years now but would love to find this spark within myself again....So what should I start with? Find a cross stitch project to work on, get on the sewing machine I got for Christmas 2 years ago after giving mine to my mom when hers broke or find a trash to turn into a treasure craft. Oh how I loved crafting.......
@ Fran, I'm sorry you were left "hanging" with the team leadership alone and no warning this was coming. You are a wonderful leader and role model and have made a wonderful choice in choosing Irene as your co leader.I have been a member of sparkpeople for years now and have searched teams to find one where I fit in and I appreciate your dedication and motivation.I have narrowed down to just two teams and hope together we can keep this team going.......I have always been a pretty positive person but seem to struggle with this more in the past year than ever. As I read our team name "Every Day is a New Start-Make it a Positive One" I am reminded to do just that!!!!!
*Be Positive and lets do what we are suppose to do.....Lift each other up!!!!!
Wishing you all a Wonderful,Happy,Healthy Day! emoticon

Hi on Sunday . It's a cool but sunny day here in England . Spring is a bit late this year.
But I have lots to keep me occupied at home ,
Today I plan to sort out my next big project in cross Stitching , I will try to put photos on sparks but I am not clever at such things! Does anyone else do any style of handicrafts? Knitting sewing, crochet, card making , pottery etc etc ? I would like to start a thread on here but only if there is some interest .
I hope to send each of you a letter introducing myself as the new co team leader and asking for support for Fran and I . Thanks Irene emoticon

Good morning team
its cold and rainy here so it is one of those day they will bring us May flowers.
my friend colored my hair yesterday so today I am taking her to dinner. spring cleaning is also on the list today. then will have the rug cleaned on Wednesday .
come up with one new idea for our team . I enjoy looking for and sharing quotes to help me spark along when the path get slippery and slide around.. so thought maybe we could share our favorite quotes or encouraging saying we find helpful to keep us going in the right direction to a new healthy life style. again if any one has any thing they would like to see us do please let me know. Fran.

That's a shock for you a co leader leaving and not telling you.it happened in Out of the Box team too so I now co leader there. Whatever goes on in people's lives its a shame if they can not just tell the leader briefly what problem they are having. We all try to be friendly on teams and support each other and leaders.
As you say Fran lets be positive and take it as a fresh start. I hope
you get some help though . Maybe more than one to share the load? Irene emoticon

Glad you are feeling better, Irene -- and that you are having a no snow day, too...(it must be spring...!)

And Fran -- BIG Congrats to you for being voted a Motivator -- Way to Go!!!

Happy Easter to All!

One of the most effective means for working with that moment when we see the gathering storm of our habitual tendencies is the practice of pausing, or creating a gap. We can stop and take three conscious breaths, and the world has a chance to open up to us in that gap. We can allow space into our state of mind.

Thanks for good wishes. I m happy to say they worked , I woke today lifted my head up and no problems, the room stayed still! I am moving cautiously but did manage 15 minutes stretch and flex exercises. I have missed my exercises , I will build up slowly again.
No snow today so it's a double good day , Irene emoticon

Congratulations Fran and being a motivator, it is well deserved.
I need some motivating today! I had hoped to get moving today but I am still suffering with vertigo. I can move around slowly keeping my head still so will not be doing any exercise and i am afraid of falling if I go out . So it looks like a day at home again. Sorry if I sound a misery ! The first day of spring brought snow showers but they did not stick around, I was happy about that as an old friend was driving here to visit for a few hours. We had a good Girly talk ,she brought me two bags of stitching magazines. I will enjoy looking through them.
Then we three of us with my dh went to our local cafe for lunch. I had a mushroom omelette plus salad and enjoyed that immensely. So now onto Thursday to see what the day holds fir us, enjoy your day. Irene. emoticon

Sat was a the first training clinic for my 12 race held at a local college the trainers talked about the importance of stretching before and after we walk/ run get lots of water in the day before the race and post race. then 20 minutes of stretching. and out the door for our walk run jog they had a clock to show us our time and trainers along the way making sure we O Kay. we just did a mile today and it took me 19 minutes and 26 sec. the NSV was that i walked the entire time did not have to stop to rest and catch my breath. and i could carry on conversation and not get short of breath. emoticon
home for healthy snack and make my shopping list. and off to do errands. home to get some yard work done before the rain came. a little connecting with Spark friends and now off for my bubble bath and a little mediation. and read my Chicken soup for the soul for dieters. and a Sparky dinner. Racey my part time dog is sitting on his pillow waiting for the rain to stop so he can go out and play. emoticon

After a very busy month I needed a few quiet days and archived them this past week, I needed time to rest and relax as was still recovering from a bronchial virus, I have enjoyed catching up on some much needed rest as well as hobbies .
I think I am off the island, being away last weekend in a hotel set me back , weight and exercise wise. But I am back on track with both again , I was up in weight for a few days . I did., worry as knew it was a temporary gain. I followed the team aim and felt positive and had a fresh start. It's a good thing they aren't rationed. Onwards and upwards now though not in weight numbers ! Have a good weekend Irene. emoticon

still on the island this week, I lost 1.4 pounds and did my workout minutes, so I am thrilled with the movement improvement and increase and my body apparently is responding to it also.
I am getting to a place where I always seem to plateau and lose and gain and lose and gain. SO I am going to have to figure out how to up the cardio to get more of a work out as I am doing all the strength training I can right now... still building endurance to my muscle strength slowly and according to the physical therapist.

Hi everyone,
Hope you have all enjoyed your weekend and that everyone has plans for their week to be successful with your goals and great successes every day!
It snowed yesterday but it' all gone today, but it is so cold and windy I have worked out inside today... to avoid the "chill to the bone" effect. But found a way to have fun with it. I didn't go to the gym, I knew it would be really crowded ... but it's back in the water for me this week.

I had a fantastic doctors appointment today. At my last visit my doc wanted me to lose 10 lbs more pounds by today, but I lost 18 pounds. My nurse and doc cheered me on...........it was awesome. I've been doing so well with my diet and exercise that my doc said if I keep up the hard work I'll be able to reduce my diabetes meds (I take 1 pill twice a day). I go back in 3 months.

May the peace and blessings of Christmas fill your heart with joy and the new year be filled with happiness.

Lynn, thanks. My twins are 18 now. Boy kids sure do grow up fast. I actually have 5 wonderful children. My other 3 are 22, 20, and 16. My husband and I are very blessed to have 5 kids who have never given us a moment of trouble. They've grown up to be God loving people.

If you count my furry babies they are 4, 4, and 1. emoticon

Angelus, congratulations on the twins :) Must be a handful.
And yes, some people in doctors office are "trained" to be unreadable, no inflection. I think they train themselves to do that. It is sad and difficult as they have NO idea the effect that their affect has on those who are waiting on life changing news, or life planning news.
But thankfully, for both of us it was fantastic news... a little hint of inflection could have given me a clue. The doctors office that called you, she gave you too much information and that was horribly wrong, I can't even imagine the anguish you went through that weekend. For me it was a few hours.

Lynnwilk, I hate when doctors offices do that. When I was pregnant I got a call on a Friday saying something was wrong with my blood work. The nurse said I was either having twins or something was very wrong with my baby. She said that the imbalance could mean either one. She told me the doctor won't be in until Monday and I could talk to him then. Thank God I found out that I was having twins. That weekend was the worst experience of my life.

Fran, glad to hear your measurements are going down. You deserve your woohoo moment.

Had a wonderful news day!
First I received a very disturbing call from the clinics about my results from my post cancer ("alien") treatment from a week ago. The woman on the phone had a very flat affect and left me terrified. I wasn't planning on having to go to the Clinic to get any results but she stiffly scheduled me an appointment for early afternoon... I was so terrified. They had removed the tissue around the tumor last Friday and it was sent to pathology for closer examination, the doctor was quite reassuring and I was looking forward to the good new today, but this call terrified me.
I got ready for the drive to the clinic (about 30 miles away) and arrived there just in time for my appointment... I was called right back ... I sat in my oncologist office for about 20 minutes waiting for him to come in.
When he came in he had his head in his notepad (not a generally good sign)... but then he looked up at me and smiled....
I just started crying. The relief was overwhelming and I thought I was going to faint.
We talked for a while, he reviewed some other results of things that need attention to.....
BUT I am cancer free...
so, I will stay on the island and keep fighting. I haven't lost a pound but I have worked out more than 150 minutes, and I haven't gained any weight either. The next week is going to be a tough one, I have to really push myself back into GO mode and not rest on the news. I have to take extra special care of myself and get rest, but I have my physical therapist exercise routine to get me back up and moving. I have to work on my posture- that will help me more than anything right now.
But Yeah!!!!

I m still playing it safe staying home, I m catching up on so much. Today I sorted out bed and table linen. As usual one job led to 2 more. I moved table linen to a drawer, that drawer needed sorting out first! You know how it goes, but for now household linens are all neat and tidy. emoticon Ree

Take care Irene, we are getting snow tonight... I am looking forward to watching it fall, but not looking forward to it freezing on the road ways by morning.
I have a few things I really need to get done tomorrow so I am hoping that by mid afternoon the roads will be clear enough to make my way out.

While I am housebound due to the weather, I am catching up on craft work and sorting out my stocks of materials . So I do not worry over snow and ice. I am contented at home for now! Irene emoticon

Way to go Blevnhim, that's a big step you've taken along the path of healthy choices. Glad you enjoyed your weekend with your daughter!

We could use some southern warmth here in BC today too, we woke up to a thin blanket of snow over everything this morning, pretty chilly out but it looks beautiful.

One of the most effective means for working with that moment when we see the gathering storm of our habitual tendencies is the practice of pausing, or creating a gap. We can stop and take three conscious breaths, and the world has a chance to open up to us in that gap. We can allow space into our state of mind.

Fran & Irene...Sending you a little southern warmth 71* today.I'm enjoying a wonderful weekend with my 16 year old daugther who moved to her dads during Christmas break. What a Blessing she is in my life! Sparking at 3:30 a.m. so I won't take precious time away from "our" time together. Her move has caused me to do a little extra emotional eating over the past two weeks but trying to keep it under control.I just realized in writing this that-thats just an excuse! I have to deal with this in a healthy way......

Cold here today so decided an inside project was in order even Racey didn't want to go this morning. he will soon be having fun helping me pack Christmas boxes and bark at the kids bundled up and playing out side guess the old rule still stands when your a kid and snow they need to check it out think some times its take mom longer to get then ready to go out and play than they stay out ? sky gray so thinking we might get some snow today. going to make some turkey soup today the last of the Thanksgiving Turkey from the Freezer. and check and see what veggies i have stashed away . have a good Saturday every one and those of us in the Winter areas stay warm.

Snow forecast in England too over the weekend, I am stocked up with food . I plan a relaxing weekend on mail and card making, the weather can do what it likes then. Enjoy your weekends, Irene emoticon

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS? Not me I am like the those who have already responded to the question I have made them in the past that is how I found Spark People Jan 14 ,2012 and started the hike here at Spark . this year I have changed the word to streaks so its more then a group of words on paper lose weight this year go to the Gym
my steak is go to the gym 4 days a week eat the spark way its not a diet but eating healthy diets never have worked. to me the difference is a streak is meeting a goal i have set in so many days the RESOLUTION is saying this is what i want to do with no end date its just something on paper we can do it and we don't have to wait until 1/1/13 to start
go team mates
