I have been going to the HGN for a few months off and on. I am trying to decide what times will be good to schedule over the summer. I would be willing to be a work out buddy.
So far I have done Zumba, Aqua Zumba and would like to try Yoga. I thought Zumba was a great class and they also have water Zumba on Sunday's and it was nice. When I get started I find myself at the gym for a long time. Today I did about an hour. I am keeping an open mind and telling myself to try different classes.
I actually started going to the Rockwell Rec Center a few months ago as it was less expensive for me and had hours and class times I could work around. I am not a morning person but think I need to become one to actually lose the weight I want to lose! I would still love a local accountability partner though!
I am a member of the Y and have several buddies who hold me accountable. I go to all 3 branches depending on the day and the classes that are offered. If anyone wants to join me and my buddies I would be glad to introduce you. My real name is Pam. I go to the early morning classes when I go. Tomorrow I will do the spinning class at HGN at 5:30 am and then take a short walk followed by a swim. On Wednesday I go to BodyPump, Thursdays I just swim usually at Stoney Point. And on Friday I do the spinning class at Stoney Point. We love to have more join our little group. Occassionally we have parties or go out for beverages. We are also HUGE Hawkeye fans. I look forward to meeting you.

I belong to the Y and generally go to the Stoney Point location but since it's closed on Sunday in the summer go downtown to the HGN one. The Stoney Point fitness center is very small - 4 treadmills, 3 bikes, etc but it's near where my son goes to daycare. It's generally not too busy to get a treadmill when i get there about 5:45ish.
I went to the HGN one this weekend with my daughter since Marion was closed and it was pretty nice. Not too busy, but they have a sign-up system for the equipment and limit you to 30 minutes per machine during "peak" times (not sure when those are). I have not yet been in the room with the equipment at the Marion Y.
Define busy. I think it really depends on when you go. I have only ever gone there for Zumba, (which I havent done in awhile) and it wasn't too busy. I received an email today actually from the YMCA that they have a special going on where you can "join any branch by June 2, 2011 and get 100 days for just $100. Or add the entire family for just $50 more." I don't know all the details but thought I would pass that along since you said you were thinking about joining.
I am not too far from either location. I am right on 29th Ave in Marion and work a few blocks from the downtown location. I have an elliptical at home that never gets used right now. My biggest problem is motivation and I need to get moving.
I live in Marion - close to the YMCA and work downtown. I have been debating about joining. I need a buddy... otherwise I just work out at home... Is the Marion work out room busy? I have never been there... but thinking of taking a tour.
I desperately need a workout buddy as well, and have a membership to the YMCA too. I have only been to the one in Marion, but work very close to the HGN (downtown) one. I don't know where the Stoney Point one is, can you let me know? What are the best days/times for you to go workout?
I desperately need a workout partner to make me accountable! I am a Y member and would prefer to work out at Stoney Point, but could do HGN if I have to. Is anybody out there interested?? I did really good last year when I was doing the couch to 5k program, because I was accountable to the program and determined to keep up with it. Now I need something else to get me there!
