Map my Run is a great site for this, you can put in regular routes..or do a virtual walk. I've walked from CT to my family's camp in the Adirondacks, then on to where my wedding is...and now I'm heading over to some friends in VT. It takes a little getting used to but once you play with it a bit it is pretty easy. this link should get you to my virtual walk map as an example.

This is a brilliant idea! I love the creativity in motivators that everyone is coming up with. Thank you all for making this challenge so special.

You can probably use google maps to to find a destination... That's what I'm going to try!

“The grass is not, in fact, always greener on the other side of the fence. No, not at all. Fences have nothing to do with it. The grass is greenest where it is watered. When crossing over fences, carry water with you and tend the grass wherever you may be.” - Robert Fulghum

Wow what a great idea. another twist might be to find a spark friend that lives the distance you want to walk and go visit them. I am going to think about this approach after a few of my other challenges are completed. emoticon

After reviewing how much time a "walking trip" to Calgary would take, I have decided to "walk/run" to Denver--578 miles away--instead. So far, I am still on the right track.

Chicago is a place that I'd really like to see, too. I spent a few hours in the O'Hara airport once, but no airport can ever do justice to the city it is in. Have a good trip!

I like this idea! I am walking 201.2 miles this year. If I do that twice, I will end up in Chicago. I've never been to Chicago before. So far, I am still in Omaha, but I'm still walking.

My virtual trip this year is going to be to Calgary Canada. I would really like to make this a real trip because in June, the Mormon History Association conference is being held there this year, but I am currently not thinking I was actually have the resources to go, but this will be fun anyway. One draws of Calgary is the annual Calgary Stampede Rodeo. More about what you might look forward to seeing later. I will need a passport to make this trip due to the Homeland security act and tighter security measures along the U.S./Canadian border.

I Googled this trip. By car, this trip would take 18 hours. Google has a fun feature that I didn't know about that gives times and mileage for walking and biking as well. I'm walking, so the estimated time is 14 days, 18 hours. Does that mean that they expect me to walk 24 hours a day? This trip comes with a warning "Use caution, this route may be missing sidewalks or pedestrian paths." Wow, you can say that again.

Actually this will be a very straight forward trip. It is straight up I-15 from Cedar City, through the entire state of Utah, across Idaho and Montana to the Canadian border, where I-15 meets up with Trans-Canada Highway AB-1 W. I am going to need to double my yearly goal to make it. If I just walk 500 miles, I will end up somewhere between the Idaho border and Butte, Montana. According to my fitness tracker, I am now 16 miles into my trip. Almost to Parowan, Utah.

A fun idea that I noticed someone else talking about on a different site is doing a "virtual journey." This would be like choosing somewhere that is about the same distance from you as your goal would be if you would actually walking there. We could use this thread to name our 'destinations' and chat about interesting spots that we 'visited' along the way. If you can find a map in an atlas or something, you could actually track out your 'journey' on the mileage according to how far you current mileage would take you.
