I have surpassed the 2012 miles. Do you want my actual total? I stopped adding when I went past 2200 miles. I'm still working though!

Just joined this group this morning but been an active SP member for a couple years. Hoping this will give me the incentive to get in my mileage. My husband bought me a recumbent bike for Christmas & I do love using it. Have bad knees & foot so walking is painful & out of the question. There goes my dream of running a 5K one day! Guess I'll have to ride a virtual one. LOL.

I also could not bring up the spreadsheet from the link. It said the page wasn't valid.

Let's go! emoticon

I just started this challenge on July 1st. I know I won't be able to get in the full 2012 by the end of the year, but I set a personal goal of 1006 which is half of that since I still have 6 months to go.

I'm super psyched!!! This was my first week back working out and I only counted the actual time I spent on the elliptical, treadmill and spinner and I got just over 68 1/2 miles for the week!

I can't believe how motivating this challenge is! I'm so glad I found this challenge ~ it's really pushing me and I'm loving it!

Got an elliptical as a Mother's Day Gift on thursday - been a little busy due to my son's birthday and of course Mother's Day since then but I've done a few miles! So I've got a late start but better late then never! It's been a while since I've done a workout of any kind on a regular basis but here I go giving it my all!

I'm up to 262 miles. That's much further than I thought I'd be at this point. I was aiming for the 201.2 miles because I didn't think I could make it to 2012. Now that I've made it this far, I'm thinking of scrambling the numbers and aiming for 1022. I'm not sure if I can make that--it would also require me to significantly bump up my weekly mileage, but it will help keep me motivated.

This is a great idea! I am just starting so I will try to do this too! I am hoping right now to walk
1 mile a day. How did you track this? Where is there a spot on the SparkPage for it? Do you use a pedometer? Whenever I have gotten one to try, it didn't work. I think a pedomete rmight be a good motivator. What kind do you have and how do you wear it? Thanks for the idea!

I was so happy to find this group. I just started sparkpeople this week and my goal was to log my food which is shocking I actually did do that, and lost my first 2 pounds! But I haven't walked and I want to do the 201.2 challenge and try to walk 1 mile a day. That would be a big change for me to get that in.
I'm so glad that the members who came up with 2012 (amazing if someone actually does that!!) came up with a scaled down version for beginners. Thank you!

I just added up all of my run/walk/elliptical/misc. exercise/etc through today, April 14. I have a total of 548 miles so far. I just have to do 1,464 miles. This means I only have to do approximately 40 miles per week. I can do this! I know I can.

I've been using a mileage tracker in the "My Fitness" section of MY TRACKERS. Don't know if it's carrying over to this challenge BUT since I didn't start tracking till sometime in FEB, I'm currently at a little over 60 miles so far. Once Bike riding season is upon us, I will manage WAY more miles/week!

Hi Sheryl,

There are a few different places you can keep track. There is a shared spreadsheet. It's near the bottom of a thread called "tracking spreadsheet" or something like that. It's really easy to use. Otherwise, I think the easiest place to keep track is under the team goals, there is a 39 miles per week or a 3.9 miles per week goal. If you keep it there, it keeps track yearly as well and you can see how others are doing, too. Or, some people have started their own threads to keep track. Hope that helps! :)

Just started this challenge about a week ago. I am 14 miles in on the 201.2 miles. I am going to strive for the 2012 miles I think that would be an awesome big challenge but won't be to hard on myself if I don't reach that, as long as I reach over 201.2 miles I will be happy. LOL!! Generally my mile is about 15 min, but when I convert from a workout video I do about either 15 or 20 per mile depending on the workout.

Thanks for the conversion chart! I had already been doing something close. 20 min = 1 mile.

Currently, I am in physical therapy (in a pool) for a knee injury. Limited land walking right now. My PT suggested the conversion when I mentioned this challenge to her.

Thanks to this conversion, I am right on track with my miles. As of today, I have walked 33.5 / 201.2 miles.

Thanks for the challenge!

I put in the aerobic mileage on the chart. Actually as its been suggested it's down on my fitness page also. I just realized that it's keeping track for me for another spark team I belong to - Where Are You Walking To Today. I'm virtual walking to Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming from the Pagoda in Reading PA. Total mileage is 1797.57 miles. I'm 35.92 miles in. It will take me a while to get there and the 2012 here. I'm on my way!

Not sure but I would think only aerobic exercise. I walk a TON at work but don't count that into my walking mileage. We might need to get further clarification.

I got a minutes tracker working but not a miles one as the bicycle is still parked until it warms up some. I do walk and jog extra in the casino as much as time can allow, but I have no idea how much in measured distance it is.

Question:

I track my aerobic walking on my pedometer but it also registers all my walking period. So of course there is more mileage on the pedometer. Should I just be recording the aerobic mileage or everything for the day? (I will set up my page today to start recording).

Thank you kindly,

Lisa

I work Thursday thru Sunday, so unless you have Mon, Tues or Wed free (or is your days off) I will be unable to meet up w/ you. It sux ... my schedule is "casino-oriented" working on the busy days and doesn't allow for much time to be social w/ others outside the casino world :-(

Hi Everyone,

I'm going to go with Babs121 plan and just track the mileage on the mileage tracker. It seems like the easiest thing to just keep all of the information all in one place. I know I can definitely do the 201.2 miles, but will try to see how far I can get. I just sorted it all out and right now I'm up to 16 miles for the year. This is a very clever idea to keep us all motivated, thanks for thinking of it!

Yes, if anyone is having trouble opening up the link, send me a spark mail with your home email address. I will manually add your email address to the share link and resend.

Not sure why half the group can get on and half cannot. I wonder if it is a browser issue. Not sure who everyone is using. I am either Firefox or Safari.

No ... I am in Minden ... the rural part closer to Carson City. AND yesterday I took a little time away from the counter and walked 2 miles in 30 minutes!! HOORAY!!!

Still having LOTS of trouble w/ the trackers SOOOOOO I write it in here or something... the most important thing is that I'm taking responsibility for getting SOME kind of physical activity in. I have the calorie counting bracelet and BOY is it helping me take account of that!! I may even break down and buy a scale (tho I HATE them cuz I do have a lot of muscle tone and weigh more than I look like I do). I am seeing some small results so far as my clothes are starting to be less tight!! emoticon

Hi teamies!
I couldn't get the spread sheet to open for me so I decided to just start a new thread called NevadaPP's miles, and I will input my miles as I go. It's simple and it works!

Track your mileage and minutes in your fitness tracker
under the Mileage tracker
Click "Add Mileage" fill out info
Click on "Activity" only 2 options here walk/run or cycling
However if you swim I am sure you could use either and under comment put swim.
Pretty sure once you start logging your time & miles your ticker will start to move.

Have a Great Everning

JUSTTRIING, couldn't open the link so I sent you a mesage with my email address.
So now how do I add my last weeks miles to our teams goal log?

Thanx

I am not really sure what the problem with tracking is for both of us. I looked at the spreadsheet. Are you using the link at the bottom of this thread?

I created a basic page for both of you. You can edit it however you want. Your names are found along the bottom of the spreadsheet. Just click your name and start logging your miles.

PLEASE let me know if this doesn't work. The other option would be for me to send you a personal email with the link and see if you can get to the site that way.

I could use a little help please!
I am not finding the teams tracking spreadsheet. I logged my miles for this week on our Team Goals, but I couldn't find where I could add last weeks miles...

Thanx in advance

Yeah Heather, I think we are all a little crazy! Can't even really think about how much effort I am going to have to put it to get 2012 miles. Oh well, even if I don't hit it, I will have given it my all!

Can't get on to the google doc. However, I already track my miles for training. I'll just add any walks.
I just broke it down by how many miles I will have to run/walk each month to hit this. Can we say cuckoo! I'm gonna do the old college try!!!!

IF you want to let me try it real quick I'll see if it will work. I went in to try to do it now but I can see you making your changes in real time, too. :)

There are no formulas on the sample. If you want to copy and paste mine, I have the formulas set up for each field :)

Thanks to the lovely JENNSWIMS, we have a conversion chart!

www.docstoc.com/docs/7967306/Exercis
e-
Conversion-Chart

I hope that this will help to make the challenge more inclusive for those who are not running/walkers/cyclists, etc. If your exercise is not usually measured in miles but you want to count it toward this challenge, use this chart to do it!

For me, I will be sticking to just the mileage and counting other workouts (Zumba, yoga, etc) separately) --- But that's just my preference!

Tailor the challenge to make it work for you!

I started my page...but made it a bit more basic...weekly totals and just the miles (not separated out by how they were achieved). I like that this has started right now...easier to follow on the fitness tracker since it tells me how many miles I've done this week and year! :)

Tonight is recumbent biking while watching the new Biggest Loser. Have to DVR it....I can't take the extra hour of fluffy blah blah blah that they are consistently stuffing the episodes with!

It took me forever to get the link to work too. You just have to delete some stuff some extra stuff that the link automatically puts in.

This should work

***LINK CURRENTLY NOT WORKING*** PLEASE BEAR WITH ME AS I FIX THIS.

You *can* but do not have to use the above document for tracking your mileage.

Please create a new tab for yourself with your name and or Spark name by copying and pasting the sample page and inputting your own info. Please DO NOT change anything on any one else's sheet.

If you have any questions or need help, please let me know!
