HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope everyone has an enjoyable and awesome 3 day weekend !!

I finally have got myself back on track and actually had a loss this week !!! WOO HOO .... I am hoping I can keep this going and get myself going in the right direction for a change !!
I need to remember that LIFE will not slow down for me to get my diet in order and I MUST make these changes myself. WE hired a new girl at work and she starts next week so I will be home more and can plan my meals better !! I've already been to the store to stock up on some great fresh veggies to supplement my meals with !!

I've been so busy lately. Had to drive about 10 hours last weekend to get dd2 from college for the summer. I tried to get healthy snacks before going but the local huge grocery store only had party trays full of veggies or melons cut up ready to eat. Melons would be too drippy and I only wanted celery and carrots and they didn't have any celery in any of the trays and all kinds of things I don't eat. Sooooooo. I gained. And I'm still trying to get it back to where it was.
Went to see a new doctor on Monday , he gave me more help in the 45 minute new patient visit than 10 years with my old Dr. He gave me exercises for my hip and says it's probably bursitis not arthritis like I had assumed all these years. He is having me do a sleep study to see what's up with my snoring and being tired all the time. He set up blood tests and x-rays for before the next appointment in September. He also insisted that I do more strength exercises to help cut down on the belly fat. He is quite pleased with the 28 pounds lost. Now to get in gear and lose ten more before the next appointment.

I set a five week weight loss goal to lose ten pounds by 5/15. I weighed myself this morning and found I'd already surpassed my goal by a half a pound! The Simple Diet is proving to be a really good fit for me. Time to make a new goal!

Hello Christine -

Ye I am hanging in there. Had a pretty good weekend. Making strides this week. Had my last trainer session at Golds today. I bought a new weight training book that looks great. Cost about $15 - less than 1/4 of a training session, so I'm looking forward to trying the routine.

Hi Everybody, Whew I'm glad it's Monday. It's a good day for a fresh start.
Christine just hang on for the next week and maybe you can catch your breath. I've often told my husband, I can do life or I can do a diet, but I can't do both. Somehow there has to be a way to merge the two.
MissUSriverrat and KD I hope you're both still doing well and anybody else that is trying this diet.
I did really well for about 3 weeks and then had a month of illness and injury. The weather has finally turned beautiful and I'm hoping to be able to get back on and stick with it. We have a trip planned to Australia in January so I have a goal set. That should help.

GO US!!!!!

thanks MISSUSRIVERRAT !

I spent all day friday in a seminar for work while it was beautiful outside... they had coffee mugs filled with candies for us to munch on and goumet cookies at each break and then fed us all mexican food for lunch ! This saturday ( today) I drive to Nashville for my niece's outdoor wedding ! I hope all goes well and then tomorrow I hqve two dinners at two different church's ! One at my in laws and then a meal at mine that night ! WHEW WWWWWWeeeeeee !!

we had some drama at work and one girl got fired so that means that ME ( the part time) is going to have to work more till we get a replacement ! That has been upsetting !

Karen thanks so much for the encouragement... it means more than you know !

I am hanging on by a thread and NOT doing well with my diet !

Skinnie -- so glad your mammogram came back OK !

Interesting to hear that others are working with meals that fit the guidelines.
I think that is going to be important for me to have a reasonable maintenance plan.

I bought protein powder yesterday and am going to try using that instead of the liquid shakes because it's cheaper. Plus there is more protein per serving. We shall see. Hope the taste is as good.

Christine it sounds like you need to slow down a bit!! This is the way women are wired though - always taking care of others. Just get up today, and focus on making it through the day 90%. It will make you feel so much better about yourself tomorrow. Then tomorrow, do the same thing. If you make it through the next two weeks at 90%, you will most likely have lost something, and still enjoyed your vacation. At the least, you will not have gained what you could if you just give up for the next two weeks. Don't do that!!

I'm doing well but not losing quickly. That's okay. I'd rather lose quickly, but slowly going in the right direction, while living life, is pretty good.

Have a good week everyone!!

well My life is super crazy and super busy lately !! Yes my mammogram was ok. they want me to come back in 6 mos and then again for my yearly and if there is no change they will leave me alone..... thank goodness. They had a new 3D machine and it shows so much more !!

Nancy ... men just lose faster...... it alwasy frustrates me that I can lose 30 pds and my husband maybe 5 and EVERYONE will come up to him and ask HOW MUCH weight have you lost and NEVER notice mine !! LOL !!

I am still having a terrible time diet wise ..... I am going out of town for the next two weekends and I know that life and eating out will be tough therefore I've sort of quit trying !!! SHAME AND BOO !!! I can't seem to get my mind in the game since i've got SO much going on !! so mad and frustrated with myself !!I've been busy trying to find and buy Mother's day gifts for the Nieces who are new moms and then our moms too !!

I often will use recipes that I substitute for the frozen dinners if the portions are within the guidelines of a dinner....... like less than 10 g of fat and more than 10 g of protein and less than 300 calories !! You can enter them in the spark recipes here and it will figure up the stats for you.... I love this feature !!

I make some of my own frozen dinners sometimes too MISSUSRIVERRAT keeping my numbers in line with Dr. Anderson's criteria. I really don't like all of the white flour, white rice, etc. in the store bought ones.

I started yesterday back on the Simple Diet as revised by me (see my intro under the introduction section). The day went well ! I am pumped up about this. I had been doing intuitive eating and really did not gain weight back, but it just felt so iffy. It was just kind of a constantly insecure feeling which I did not really like. So I am going to work with the plan, get to my lowest weight of my chosen acceptable weight range (3 pounds down and 1 inch off waist), and then figure out how to work into maintenance. I am trying to work-out a "forever" plan based on the Simple Diet. I'm using this diet because I love the food and it works for me ! It is filling and satisfying and makes me feel great ! Plus, I really don't like to cook or to do all kinds of thinking about food.

This morning I did weigh myself and took measurements. I will share with you guys as I go through this.

Christine - I'm sorry you're having such a tough week. I hope everything goes well today with your mamogram. I had to have a follow up biopsy one year and I was on pins and needles for 3 weeks.
I actually had gastric bypass about 23 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did. I lost 130 pounds and kept it off for a long time. Then life happened and I slowly gained about half of it back. I have gone up and down over the last 10 years but I would do it again for sure. Even now if I would just eat at my meals I still can't eat alot. My problem is I've been eating some all day and the weight just creeps up.
This diet has been such a blessing because if I get hungry I drink a shake or eat some veggies or fruit or something so I'm not hungry all the time.
I find I need the guidelines so that I just don't grab a handful of this or that. Chips are my worst.
My husband decided he would do a modified version or the diet and walk too. Why do men lose so much easier than women. Grrrr. I'm glad he's doing well. I just want to lose as quick as he is.

Take care everyone.

Hi everyone

Having a VERY bad eating week !! I plan on getting back on track this weekend..... unfortunately my schedule will not allow it before that !!

Karen I go to Chuch with two women who've had the sleeve who are sisters. also a man who had the whole thing and then another family member of the sisters had it also. The sleeve is supposed to be less invasive ! Both sisters lost weight but neither one is small and one did better than the other. They did have vomiting issues and cannot drink ANY carbonation of ANY sort ! I think they are glad they did it ??????? The man did not do any classes to help him with the mental part of it and he quickly regained all his weight and then some. He is LARGE ! I feel for him. I wonder how long he will EVEN be mobile. It from what I've seen is NOT the cure all slash ..... be all ! YOU STILL have to WORK AT IT ! Therefore my moto is ....... if you still have to work then why not try before the surgery??????? I understand both sides for sure and would not say anything to anyone who chooses it !! I have thought about it also.

I have to go back for a retake on my yearly mammography and would like to ask for prayers . I am a little nervous about it !! Its today at 1 pm
thanks everyone

MISSUSRIVERRAT---- you come on back and share all you want to ... so glad to see you !!

Nancy- so glad to hear from you also

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. Using my smart phone and the spark ap makes it a real work out for my brain to visit my teams and takes a lot of time to navigate. One day last week it wouldn't let me go to any of my teams. I don't like to use my hot spot with my tablet because I forget to turn it back off.

My SIL had one of those bariatric surgeries just over a year ago and has lost about 100lbs and still needs to lose probably 100 more. She seems to be doing ok with it, but for the first few months after the surgery she had a rough time eating much of anything. Another lady from MIL's church had similar surgery about the same time and she lost a lot of weight, in my opinion way too much- she went from about 300 to about 120 in less than a year. I've heard she has had a lot of trouble following her surgery. I also know a pastor who had it about 5 years ago and he lost about 100lbs and as far as I can tell he has gained it all back. I think a lot depends on the type of surgery, your surgeon, your body's reaction to the surgery and your commitment to following doctors orders. If you can't follow orders you are in for a lot of trouble- vomiting, and weight gain. Also I've heard that most people end up having their gall bladder removed a short while later.

Trying hard to stay as close to the plan as I can but we have 2 big dinners at church in the next couple of weeks so I don't know how I'm going to keep from eating too much.

Anna

This last week has been a lot better for me. My husband (not on SP) came home with info on bariatric surgery. He is about 100 lbs overweight, and has diabetes, and high cholesterol, and HBP. Along with some kidney issues. He definitely fits all the profiles for getting it done. It's very scary for me to think of him going under for that, not to mention he doesn't like high fiber, low carb, or any kind of healthy food.

Well, he does eat what I make, but he prefers the fried, white flour food his southern mom made for him when he was growing up. And he eats what he wants when he is away from me, so I can't control everything.

Anyway - just wondering if anyone knows anyone who has had the gastric sleeve survery (or any other kind of bariatric surgery) and what their results were. What I am really wondering is the side effects, whether or not they thought it was worth it, and if they would do it again if they could do it all over.

I am reading many of the posts in the forums and other places online, but personal anecdotes are very interesting to me.

Hi everybody. I'm back... Oh my the last month has been a long one. My knee is probably back to 90% so I feel like I can start walking again. I kept off most of what I had lost initially so I'm ready to get back at it. I sent all the yummy food home with the kids last night so I wouldn't be tempted and got up and drank my shake today. Reading your thoughts and challenges and successes has kept me motivated while I was struggling. Maybe we can make some kind of challenge between us to motivate us all to really do it now.

Yes Karen it was .... that happened in 2013 and unfortunately I have been stuck ever since and then in late 2014 I gained about 20 something pounds back. I have NOT changed it to my ticker to try to keep me motivated to get back there. I am struggling in 2015 to just maintain.
I could not seem to get past that point for some reason ! ????

this week was VERY rough on me..... lots of church dinners and food cooking !! I am trying to get my mojo back !!

Hope everyone is hangin on and staying on program !

It must be so gratifying to see that you are half way to your goal though Christine - that's super motivation to keep it up!

I've had a tough week. Food everywhere. Stress and appointments and always having to cook dinner for one or two or three. Some days I'd like to not have to cook at all... but really, I do like having a husband and family!

Will keep it up and hope for a better end to Easter and beyond.

Hi anna, Karen and Nancy !!

Hope you all are doing fine and hanging in there...... Nancy I hope your knee feels better.... emoticon

I have been super busy this week with a gospel meeting going on at my Church everynight and lots of cooking and eating. !! UGH !!! I am trying to maintain but its tough with all those potlucks and heavenly desserts !!MY in laws came and spent the night and it was fun .. !!

I managed to have 3 full days on program before the eating began and it encouraged me to try to hang on ... life is NEVER going to slow down and allow me to do my thing so I am going to HAVE to learn to manage this stress eating thing !! I am not happy with my clothes and the fact I gained this winter and so I must decide to change !! I am incorporating more vegetables and starting to see better choices for me so I will continue and fight !! Now if my back and knee will allow me to get back to my walking and exercising ............. ( fingers crossed)

Hope everyone is having an on program week......

keep on keepin on

They say weight loss has all to do with the kitchen, and strength building and toning have all to do with the gym. Do what you can with where you are - keep your diet tight and don't worry about the exercise for a bit!

I hope everyone had a wonderful easter weekend. I'm a little discouraged because the knee thing is getting worse instead of better. It's really hard to be excited when I'm having trouble even walking more or less exercising. I'm going to stick with the diet as well as I can and hope what I did lose stays off until I can get the knee take care of. The soonest I can get into a dr is the 14th so we'll just hang in there til then. Keep going I'll live vicariously.

Hi all, I had to not plan on making my usual favorites for easter dinner. I am planning lots of fruit and veggies, some ham and maybe a bite or two of the potatoes. I agree with the theory of trying to eat in moderation once in a while rather than feeling totally deprived and going off in a big way. You guys are such inspiration and it's so helpful to read your comments and hints. I tweaked my knee about 10 days ago and then got really sick last Thursday and am finally just starting to feel better so I'm hoping to get back to real life soon. I went to the Dr and he gave me a steroid shot in my knee and said I could start walking again in a week which I was thrilled about because I was thinking maybe surgery. Hope you all have a wonderful easter weekend.

hey Karen I don't think 210 calories for a protein bar is too bad over

as far as for Easter I will make sure to track the food I eat and not eat too many sweets.... I will eat some ham and vegetables ! Its the bread that really calls me ,......... OOPS !!

My motto is try to make better choices but have a little so I don't feel " deprived " however that really is a personal thing... some people do better by staying 100 % away but I feel deprived and pout and then later I eat worse than if I let myself have a " little" of the regular foods....... that really all depends on you and how you handle things and I found out YEARS AGO..... that what works for one person may or may NOT work for another...... so use your own judgement ! If cheating a little will " trigger " your overeating than DON"T !! we are all different !! Listen to yourself and try to learn about yourself..... this is a journey and we all want to get healthier.... we learn more about ourselves as we go along ........ I have learned for me... that persistence does more for me than perfection ! I can NEVER achieve perfection !

Hugs and good luck

I love the Atkins triple chocolate bar to keep my chocolate cravings at bay !! it has 12 g of protein and 160 calories...... I also like the Zone perfect frudge graham one that is 15 g of protein and 210 calories... a little over the guidelines !
Dr A says in the book on page 38 that you can eat up to 2 nutrition bars a day but not to count them as meal replacements ! However I remember reading somewhere he said to not eat over 7 in a week to help with weight loss ????/

I eat them when out shopping sometimes or when craving sweets or chocolate !

Nancy ... that is so encouraging and I am so happy for you ! See you did better than you expected even !!
the weather has been better here !!

I really like the chocolate covered coconut bar. A bit lower in protein (only 5 grams) but 9 grams of fiber and 170 calories. Almost as good as a Mounds bar. I use them either as a treat or a quick snack at work when I don't get a lunch break.

Geesh. Just again looked at the box - indeed 16 grams of protein, but 210 calories. Just delicious though. Well worth the calories. I just count them like a shake if I haven't had enough that day, and never eat more than one a day.

I'm pretty happy too. I have the Atkins chocolate pretzel bars and peanut butter pretzel bars for 160 calories and 15 gms protein in them for my once a day bar. That seems to keep the munchies at bay.

Eating better food choices and seeing a downward trend. emoticon

Hi, thanks so much for your advice. I went out of town this weekend and was able to eat out and stay within the guidelines. I am just finishing week 3 and am still loving this diet. I hope everyone else is having success too. The weather has started to warm up and helped me get excited about walking. I love spring.

hey Nancy

I eat out a lot and yes I do eat grilled chicken salad !! I also eat grilled chicken breast with side vegetables ! Almost all restaurants that are chains now have nutritional info available online. I like to look up ( if I know where I will be eating) their nutritional info and keep in lines with the guidelines for an entree.... something around 300 calories with less than 10 g of fat and more than 10 g of protein !!
If I eat at a fast food place I nearly always order a chicken sandwich if its NOT BREADED and a side salad. I also have ordered a small childs hamburger ( no MAYO) and a side salad. I will sometimes eat my fruit before or carry it with me !
Subway has MANY MANY good choices.... backyard burger has an EXCELLENT blackened chicken salad if you like spicey
wendy's has salads,,,, Dairy Queen has salads,,,, sonic had salads at one time ????
Cracker barrel has vegetables......
I like to order grilled fish too if I can !!

Hi all
I am also 56 years old and have been married for 37 years. I love to read about your successes. What do you do when you eat out? I'm scared to go off plan but I don't want to take an entree to have them heat up. I have been just eating before I go somewhere and then just pick at a salad or something. Do you think a grilled chicken salad would work?

Thanks, Nancy

Hi Everyone !!

the weather is MUCH better here this week and I hope to walk outside for the first time this year today !! YEAH and YIPEE for that !!

Karen I am 54 and have been married 26 years also. My husband and I LOVE to eat out so it stays a challenge for me always but I have done very well on The Simple Diet (TSD). You can do this and it IS possible !! I love adding fruit to my greek yogurt and DR A says you can have greek yogurt once a day in place of a shake ! I always get the vanilla one and add various fruits... LOVE blueberries when in season !

DasyDUCKY you are just doing emoticon

Anna - so glad that you may get more hours at work !! Hope you are doing alright !!

I am still struggling to get back 100 % !! Don't like that Ive gained over winter so time to get moving !!

TSD is definitely doable. Remember to get in your freggies and your walking/exercise. And don't set your goals too big to start with. My losses weren't anywhere near as dramatic as the book, but I have lost almost 30# in just over a year. (November-February plateau finally broken) Thanksgiving- Fat Tuesday was a bit rough.

Get enough variety in your food choices so that it doesn't get too boring. emoticon

Things have been busy around here and I got news last night that I might be getting more hours at work this week, so I had better get busy around the house today and get as much done as I can.

Good morning ladies (I didn't see any men posting) - I got the Simple Diet book in the mail last night and skimmed through the whole thing. Looks very doable.

I'm starting today, and will closely read it in the next week.

I am 56 as well, work for a dermatologist, and have been married 26+ years and have two boys, 22 and 24. My husband has diabetes, and I'm trying to find something he could do, but I need to have success before he'll even try it. I know him after all this time. I also could stand to lose about 45 pounds - but that seems daunting, so I'm breaking it up into chunks.

Good morning, It is so fun to have other people that are on the same journey. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I started this diet. I am still loving it. I am down 9.4 lbs and have started walk/jogging. I have never jogged in my life. I am having to do my exercise in a couple of chunks during the day though. I am 56 and have been overweight most of my married life. This is the first time I can remember that I really feel like I am going to be able to get this weight off. My favorite thing I've found is eating 100 calorie greek yogurt in the evening instead of a shake. It's like having a treat. I am having a hard time getting all the fruits and veggies in though. My very favorite candy is Hershey hard coated easter eggs so this is a challenge but I keep telling myself that they are still going to make easter candy next year and I will be able to eat a couple of pieces then when I am at goal weight.
Good luck to you all. We can do this.
I am so inspired by you all.

Hi all. Hope you are doing well.

I closed last night at work and opened this morning. Hope I have enough energy when I get home to do something. I really need to get some cardio in and I rarely have the energy on Sundays.

Having trouble keeping to the plan lately. Need more motivation.

I don't think the craziness will ever end. Trying to eat better, but it's hard. I've been getting 2-3 freggies per day lately. Can't seem to get more in but once in awhile. I really need to start taking the dogs out for a walk.

I hope you're all doing well. I started a week ago and am down 6 pounds. I really can't believe how easy "simple" this has been. We have a crazy life at our house and this works perfect. Of course on the down side my husband is doing it with me and has lost 10 pounds, grrrr. I tried a lean pocket sandwich for lunch the other day. It fit in to the guidelines and was so good. I'm anxious to go look at the yogurt protien shakes because I'm already a little tired of the shakes. I tried some strawberry cheesecake greek yogurt the other day instead of a shake, only 100 calories. It made a nice chage

Sorry it's been so long. DDs home for spring break, friend in the hospital, over an hour away. Just so much going on.

Weighed myself this morning..... I've gained about 4 #. Need to get serious again.

The temp around here has melted all the snow except the snowbanks. It looks so strange after it being white for so long to drive past fields that look like the farmer has been out plowing already. It has to be from before the snow because the fields are too soggy.

I guess walking outside will start again soon.

Gotta go get ready for work.

We can do this!

hey michelle

yes DR A recommends 30 minutes of walking everyday till you work up to 2 miles a day.

What I do when on program (TSD) .... when I go out to eat.... I try to look up here on the spark people tracker the calories and fat grams to fit what I would eat for a frozen meal...... something under 300 calories with at least 10 g of protein and under 9 g of fat.

You can also go to the websites of restaurants to find out nutritional info......
taco bell has a fresco menu ( all lowfat)..... there I eat one or two beef taco's fresco style
backyard burger has a blackened chicken sandwich I eat with no mayo and tossed salad on side
Penn Station has an Artichoke sandwich I order with no Mayo
Burker king I order a small hamburger with no mayo and a tossed salad
Captain D's has a salmon salad I order with no breadstick
Cracker Barrel has chicken tenders and lots of veggie choices
Wendy's has a baked potato and salads

If you know where you are going to eat then be sure to look up info before going to see what some choices are for you. Going in with the knowledge ahead of time has really helped me. Sometimes I find out the very thing I thought would be good was indeed the WORST choice !! for instance taco salads are HORRIBLE !!
I have learned at all fast food restaurants to JUST leave off the fries and try to get some vegatables or to take a piece of fresh fruit with me and eat before I go or after my meal. Also almost always if you leave off mayo on a sandwich the fat grams SHRINK significantly !

good luck and I know you can do it !

Christine

Hi Christine!

Yes, yes it's all coming back to me now. It's funny I actually just saw a commercial tonight about a new yogurt protein shake with 12 proteins, it's like the yogurt... Light and fit or something....Dannon maybe? Wonder how it tastes... Not sure if it fits into the calorie range, but worth a look.
I am going out tomorrow with a friend of mine... We are gonna go for a walk and then do lunch. Any suggestions or advice on what to do when you go out to a restaurant? Probably a a silly question... But what do you guys do? Stick with some kind of salad? Otherwise going to start a walking regimen hopefully once the weather starts getting a smidge warmer and more consistent. I'm in PA. Isn't 20-30 mins of exercise also part of the plan? Is it daily?

I appreciate your help and I wish us both luck in getting back on the horse. Haha. Have a great night.

~ Michelle

Don't you even worry about it !! I too have struggled something terrible this winter... everytime its cold ... all I want to do is EAT !!

On the simple diet (TSD)
you will need to eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies
3 protein shakes under 200 calories with at least 10 g of protein
and 2 frozen meals under 300 calories with at least 10 g of protein and under 9 g of fat !

that 's it !! no measuring , no counting !

I hope to get myself back in the swing of things also !! lets do this !!

Hi there ladies,

I am kind of new here... Not sure if you remember me, I was on TSD last year around this time and I did fairly well... Then as is always my issue, life happened and I lot my mojo. Well, I have decided to give it a go again... Starting fresh. I will need a little help starting out as honestly I do t remember the specifics about the plan. I remember eating the frozen healthy choice/smart ones 2x a day... But don't recall the calories or proteins to look for. I know you have to eat a lot of fruits and veggies and drink lots of water. If you guys could help me out.... I would be very grateful. I have let myself go and this long, cold winter hasn't helped any. I have roughly about 60-70lbs to lose... But frankly I'd be thrilled to lose half of that. I look forward to getting back on track and becoming a loser.... Lol. Thanks so much and I look forward to joining this journey with you all.
Keep up the good work!

~ Michelle

Thank good ness our neighbor came over with a tractor to plow our driveway.... my husband missed one day of work because he couldn't get out of the driveway ! We also had large snow DRIFTS !! the wind blew it around and covered doors and steps and even up on my porch and places it never gets !! AMAZING...... all I can say is I truly feel for those people up in Boston !! I cannot EVEN imagine !!

Enough yacking.... I did want to let everyone know I found a new delicious choc protein bar that really helps with my Chocolate cravings !!
its called ATKINS Snack bar..... Triple chocolate bar. Its not all that big but boy is it CHOCOLATE !!! Its like a chocolate rice krispie bar with chocolate chips sprinkled on top andplaced on a chocolate cookie crunch base !!
12 g of protein , 3.3 g net carbs, 160 calores and 0 g of sugar , 9g of fat !
