I am working on this idea. I think my husband would benefit by this too. He'll be eating lower calories and won't even know it. :-)

I make some of my own frozen dinners sometimes too MISSUSRIVERRAT keeping my numbers in line with Dr. Anderson's criteria. I really don't like all of the white flour, white rice, etc. in the store bought ones.

I started yesterday back on the Simple Diet as revised by me (see my intro under the introduction section). The day went well ! I am pumped up about this. I had been doing intuitive eating and really did not gain weight back, but it just felt so iffy. It was just kind of a constantly insecure feeling which I did not really like. So I am going to work with the plan, get to my lowest weight of my chosen acceptable weight range (3 pounds down and 1 inch off waist), and then figure out how to work into maintenance. I am trying to work-out a "forever" plan based on the Simple Diet. I'm using this diet because I love the food and it works for me ! It is filling and satisfying and makes me feel great ! Plus, I really don't like to cook or to do all kinds of thinking about food.

This morning I did weigh myself and took measurements. I will share with you guys as I go through this.

Christine - I'm sorry you're having such a tough week. I hope everything goes well today with your mamogram. I had to have a follow up biopsy one year and I was on pins and needles for 3 weeks.
I actually had gastric bypass about 23 years ago. It was the best thing I ever did. I lost 130 pounds and kept it off for a long time. Then life happened and I slowly gained about half of it back. I have gone up and down over the last 10 years but I would do it again for sure. Even now if I would just eat at my meals I still can't eat alot. My problem is I've been eating some all day and the weight just creeps up.
This diet has been such a blessing because if I get hungry I drink a shake or eat some veggies or fruit or something so I'm not hungry all the time.
I find I need the guidelines so that I just don't grab a handful of this or that. Chips are my worst.
My husband decided he would do a modified version or the diet and walk too. Why do men lose so much easier than women. Grrrr. I'm glad he's doing well. I just want to lose as quick as he is.

Take care everyone.

Hi everyone

Having a VERY bad eating week !! I plan on getting back on track this weekend..... unfortunately my schedule will not allow it before that !!

Karen I go to Chuch with two women who've had the sleeve who are sisters. also a man who had the whole thing and then another family member of the sisters had it also. The sleeve is supposed to be less invasive ! Both sisters lost weight but neither one is small and one did better than the other. They did have vomiting issues and cannot drink ANY carbonation of ANY sort ! I think they are glad they did it ??????? The man did not do any classes to help him with the mental part of it and he quickly regained all his weight and then some. He is LARGE ! I feel for him. I wonder how long he will EVEN be mobile. It from what I've seen is NOT the cure all slash ..... be all ! YOU STILL have to WORK AT IT ! Therefore my moto is ....... if you still have to work then why not try before the surgery??????? I understand both sides for sure and would not say anything to anyone who chooses it !! I have thought about it also.

I have to go back for a retake on my yearly mammography and would like to ask for prayers . I am a little nervous about it !! Its today at 1 pm
thanks everyone

MISSUSRIVERRAT---- you come on back and share all you want to ... so glad to see you !!

Nancy- so glad to hear from you also

Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. Using my smart phone and the spark ap makes it a real work out for my brain to visit my teams and takes a lot of time to navigate. One day last week it wouldn't let me go to any of my teams. I don't like to use my hot spot with my tablet because I forget to turn it back off.

My SIL had one of those bariatric surgeries just over a year ago and has lost about 100lbs and still needs to lose probably 100 more. She seems to be doing ok with it, but for the first few months after the surgery she had a rough time eating much of anything. Another lady from MIL's church had similar surgery about the same time and she lost a lot of weight, in my opinion way too much- she went from about 300 to about 120 in less than a year. I've heard she has had a lot of trouble following her surgery. I also know a pastor who had it about 5 years ago and he lost about 100lbs and as far as I can tell he has gained it all back. I think a lot depends on the type of surgery, your surgeon, your body's reaction to the surgery and your commitment to following doctors orders. If you can't follow orders you are in for a lot of trouble- vomiting, and weight gain. Also I've heard that most people end up having their gall bladder removed a short while later.

Trying hard to stay as close to the plan as I can but we have 2 big dinners at church in the next couple of weeks so I don't know how I'm going to keep from eating too much.

Anna

This last week has been a lot better for me. My husband (not on SP) came home with info on bariatric surgery. He is about 100 lbs overweight, and has diabetes, and high cholesterol, and HBP. Along with some kidney issues. He definitely fits all the profiles for getting it done. It's very scary for me to think of him going under for that, not to mention he doesn't like high fiber, low carb, or any kind of healthy food.

Well, he does eat what I make, but he prefers the fried, white flour food his southern mom made for him when he was growing up. And he eats what he wants when he is away from me, so I can't control everything.

Anyway - just wondering if anyone knows anyone who has had the gastric sleeve survery (or any other kind of bariatric surgery) and what their results were. What I am really wondering is the side effects, whether or not they thought it was worth it, and if they would do it again if they could do it all over.

I am reading many of the posts in the forums and other places online, but personal anecdotes are very interesting to me.

Hi everybody. I'm back... Oh my the last month has been a long one. My knee is probably back to 90% so I feel like I can start walking again. I kept off most of what I had lost initially so I'm ready to get back at it. I sent all the yummy food home with the kids last night so I wouldn't be tempted and got up and drank my shake today. Reading your thoughts and challenges and successes has kept me motivated while I was struggling. Maybe we can make some kind of challenge between us to motivate us all to really do it now.

Yes Karen it was .... that happened in 2013 and unfortunately I have been stuck ever since and then in late 2014 I gained about 20 something pounds back. I have NOT changed it to my ticker to try to keep me motivated to get back there. I am struggling in 2015 to just maintain.
I could not seem to get past that point for some reason ! ????

this week was VERY rough on me..... lots of church dinners and food cooking !! I am trying to get my mojo back !!

Hope everyone is hangin on and staying on program !

It must be so gratifying to see that you are half way to your goal though Christine - that's super motivation to keep it up!

I've had a tough week. Food everywhere. Stress and appointments and always having to cook dinner for one or two or three. Some days I'd like to not have to cook at all... but really, I do like having a husband and family!

Will keep it up and hope for a better end to Easter and beyond.

Hi anna, Karen and Nancy !!

Hope you all are doing fine and hanging in there...... Nancy I hope your knee feels better.... emoticon

I have been super busy this week with a gospel meeting going on at my Church everynight and lots of cooking and eating. !! UGH !!! I am trying to maintain but its tough with all those potlucks and heavenly desserts !!MY in laws came and spent the night and it was fun .. !!

I managed to have 3 full days on program before the eating began and it encouraged me to try to hang on ... life is NEVER going to slow down and allow me to do my thing so I am going to HAVE to learn to manage this stress eating thing !! I am not happy with my clothes and the fact I gained this winter and so I must decide to change !! I am incorporating more vegetables and starting to see better choices for me so I will continue and fight !! Now if my back and knee will allow me to get back to my walking and exercising ............. ( fingers crossed)

Hope everyone is having an on program week......

keep on keepin on

They say weight loss has all to do with the kitchen, and strength building and toning have all to do with the gym. Do what you can with where you are - keep your diet tight and don't worry about the exercise for a bit!

I hope everyone had a wonderful easter weekend. I'm a little discouraged because the knee thing is getting worse instead of better. It's really hard to be excited when I'm having trouble even walking more or less exercising. I'm going to stick with the diet as well as I can and hope what I did lose stays off until I can get the knee take care of. The soonest I can get into a dr is the 14th so we'll just hang in there til then. Keep going I'll live vicariously.

Hi all, I had to not plan on making my usual favorites for easter dinner. I am planning lots of fruit and veggies, some ham and maybe a bite or two of the potatoes. I agree with the theory of trying to eat in moderation once in a while rather than feeling totally deprived and going off in a big way. You guys are such inspiration and it's so helpful to read your comments and hints. I tweaked my knee about 10 days ago and then got really sick last Thursday and am finally just starting to feel better so I'm hoping to get back to real life soon. I went to the Dr and he gave me a steroid shot in my knee and said I could start walking again in a week which I was thrilled about because I was thinking maybe surgery. Hope you all have a wonderful easter weekend.

hey Karen I don't think 210 calories for a protein bar is too bad over

as far as for Easter I will make sure to track the food I eat and not eat too many sweets.... I will eat some ham and vegetables ! Its the bread that really calls me ,......... OOPS !!

My motto is try to make better choices but have a little so I don't feel " deprived " however that really is a personal thing... some people do better by staying 100 % away but I feel deprived and pout and then later I eat worse than if I let myself have a " little" of the regular foods....... that really all depends on you and how you handle things and I found out YEARS AGO..... that what works for one person may or may NOT work for another...... so use your own judgement ! If cheating a little will " trigger " your overeating than DON"T !! we are all different !! Listen to yourself and try to learn about yourself..... this is a journey and we all want to get healthier.... we learn more about ourselves as we go along ........ I have learned for me... that persistence does more for me than perfection ! I can NEVER achieve perfection !

Hugs and good luck

I love the Atkins triple chocolate bar to keep my chocolate cravings at bay !! it has 12 g of protein and 160 calories...... I also like the Zone perfect frudge graham one that is 15 g of protein and 210 calories... a little over the guidelines !
Dr A says in the book on page 38 that you can eat up to 2 nutrition bars a day but not to count them as meal replacements ! However I remember reading somewhere he said to not eat over 7 in a week to help with weight loss ????/

I eat them when out shopping sometimes or when craving sweets or chocolate !

Nancy ... that is so encouraging and I am so happy for you ! See you did better than you expected even !!
the weather has been better here !!

I really like the chocolate covered coconut bar. A bit lower in protein (only 5 grams) but 9 grams of fiber and 170 calories. Almost as good as a Mounds bar. I use them either as a treat or a quick snack at work when I don't get a lunch break.

Geesh. Just again looked at the box - indeed 16 grams of protein, but 210 calories. Just delicious though. Well worth the calories. I just count them like a shake if I haven't had enough that day, and never eat more than one a day.

I'm pretty happy too. I have the Atkins chocolate pretzel bars and peanut butter pretzel bars for 160 calories and 15 gms protein in them for my once a day bar. That seems to keep the munchies at bay.

Hi, thanks so much for your advice. I went out of town this weekend and was able to eat out and stay within the guidelines. I am just finishing week 3 and am still loving this diet. I hope everyone else is having success too. The weather has started to warm up and helped me get excited about walking. I love spring.

hey Nancy

I eat out a lot and yes I do eat grilled chicken salad !! I also eat grilled chicken breast with side vegetables ! Almost all restaurants that are chains now have nutritional info available online. I like to look up ( if I know where I will be eating) their nutritional info and keep in lines with the guidelines for an entree.... something around 300 calories with less than 10 g of fat and more than 10 g of protein !!
If I eat at a fast food place I nearly always order a chicken sandwich if its NOT BREADED and a side salad. I also have ordered a small childs hamburger ( no MAYO) and a side salad. I will sometimes eat my fruit before or carry it with me !
Subway has MANY MANY good choices.... backyard burger has an EXCELLENT blackened chicken salad if you like spicey
wendy's has salads,,,, Dairy Queen has salads,,,, sonic had salads at one time ????
Cracker barrel has vegetables......
I like to order grilled fish too if I can !!

Hi all
I am also 56 years old and have been married for 37 years. I love to read about your successes. What do you do when you eat out? I'm scared to go off plan but I don't want to take an entree to have them heat up. I have been just eating before I go somewhere and then just pick at a salad or something. Do you think a grilled chicken salad would work?

Thanks, Nancy

Hi Everyone !!

the weather is MUCH better here this week and I hope to walk outside for the first time this year today !! YEAH and YIPEE for that !!

Karen I am 54 and have been married 26 years also. My husband and I LOVE to eat out so it stays a challenge for me always but I have done very well on The Simple Diet (TSD). You can do this and it IS possible !! I love adding fruit to my greek yogurt and DR A says you can have greek yogurt once a day in place of a shake ! I always get the vanilla one and add various fruits... LOVE blueberries when in season !

DasyDUCKY you are just doing emoticon

I think it took me a lot longer to get my weight to start coming off ( 3 weeks)
I think my body did not believe me that I was serious this time !! HA HA !!

Anna - so glad that you may get more hours at work !! Hope you are doing alright !!

I am still struggling to get back 100 % !! Don't like that Ive gained over winter so time to get moving !!

TSD is definitely doable. Remember to get in your freggies and your walking/exercise. And don't set your goals too big to start with. My losses weren't anywhere near as dramatic as the book, but I have lost almost 30# in just over a year. (November-February plateau finally broken) Thanksgiving- Fat Tuesday was a bit rough.

Get enough variety in your food choices so that it doesn't get too boring. emoticon

Things have been busy around here and I got news last night that I might be getting more hours at work this week, so I had better get busy around the house today and get as much done as I can.

Good morning ladies (I didn't see any men posting) - I got the Simple Diet book in the mail last night and skimmed through the whole thing. Looks very doable.

I'm starting today, and will closely read it in the next week.

I am 56 as well, work for a dermatologist, and have been married 26+ years and have two boys, 22 and 24. My husband has diabetes, and I'm trying to find something he could do, but I need to have success before he'll even try it. I know him after all this time. I also could stand to lose about 45 pounds - but that seems daunting, so I'm breaking it up into chunks.

Good morning, It is so fun to have other people that are on the same journey. Tomorrow will be two weeks since I started this diet. I am still loving it. I am down 9.4 lbs and have started walk/jogging. I have never jogged in my life. I am having to do my exercise in a couple of chunks during the day though. I am 56 and have been overweight most of my married life. This is the first time I can remember that I really feel like I am going to be able to get this weight off. My favorite thing I've found is eating 100 calorie greek yogurt in the evening instead of a shake. It's like having a treat. I am having a hard time getting all the fruits and veggies in though. My very favorite candy is Hershey hard coated easter eggs so this is a challenge but I keep telling myself that they are still going to make easter candy next year and I will be able to eat a couple of pieces then when I am at goal weight.
Good luck to you all. We can do this.
I am so inspired by you all.

Hi all. Hope you are doing well.

I closed last night at work and opened this morning. Hope I have enough energy when I get home to do something. I really need to get some cardio in and I rarely have the energy on Sundays.

Having trouble keeping to the plan lately. Need more motivation.

I don't think the craziness will ever end. Trying to eat better, but it's hard. I've been getting 2-3 freggies per day lately. Can't seem to get more in but once in awhile. I really need to start taking the dogs out for a walk.

I hope you're all doing well. I started a week ago and am down 6 pounds. I really can't believe how easy "simple" this has been. We have a crazy life at our house and this works perfect. Of course on the down side my husband is doing it with me and has lost 10 pounds, grrrr. I tried a lean pocket sandwich for lunch the other day. It fit in to the guidelines and was so good. I'm anxious to go look at the yogurt protien shakes because I'm already a little tired of the shakes. I tried some strawberry cheesecake greek yogurt the other day instead of a shake, only 100 calories. It made a nice chage

Sorry it's been so long. DDs home for spring break, friend in the hospital, over an hour away. Just so much going on.

Weighed myself this morning..... I've gained about 4 #. Need to get serious again.

The temp around here has melted all the snow except the snowbanks. It looks so strange after it being white for so long to drive past fields that look like the farmer has been out plowing already. It has to be from before the snow because the fields are too soggy.

I guess walking outside will start again soon.

Gotta go get ready for work.

We can do this!

hey michelle

yes DR A recommends 30 minutes of walking everyday till you work up to 2 miles a day.

What I do when on program (TSD) .... when I go out to eat.... I try to look up here on the spark people tracker the calories and fat grams to fit what I would eat for a frozen meal...... something under 300 calories with at least 10 g of protein and under 9 g of fat.

You can also go to the websites of restaurants to find out nutritional info......
taco bell has a fresco menu ( all lowfat)..... there I eat one or two beef taco's fresco style
backyard burger has a blackened chicken sandwich I eat with no mayo and tossed salad on side
Penn Station has an Artichoke sandwich I order with no Mayo
Burker king I order a small hamburger with no mayo and a tossed salad
Captain D's has a salmon salad I order with no breadstick
Cracker Barrel has chicken tenders and lots of veggie choices
Wendy's has a baked potato and salads

If you know where you are going to eat then be sure to look up info before going to see what some choices are for you. Going in with the knowledge ahead of time has really helped me. Sometimes I find out the very thing I thought would be good was indeed the WORST choice !! for instance taco salads are HORRIBLE !!
I have learned at all fast food restaurants to JUST leave off the fries and try to get some vegatables or to take a piece of fresh fruit with me and eat before I go or after my meal. Also almost always if you leave off mayo on a sandwich the fat grams SHRINK significantly !

good luck and I know you can do it !

Christine

Hi Christine!

Yes, yes it's all coming back to me now. It's funny I actually just saw a commercial tonight about a new yogurt protein shake with 12 proteins, it's like the yogurt... Light and fit or something....Dannon maybe? Wonder how it tastes... Not sure if it fits into the calorie range, but worth a look.
I am going out tomorrow with a friend of mine... We are gonna go for a walk and then do lunch. Any suggestions or advice on what to do when you go out to a restaurant? Probably a a silly question... But what do you guys do? Stick with some kind of salad? Otherwise going to start a walking regimen hopefully once the weather starts getting a smidge warmer and more consistent. I'm in PA. Isn't 20-30 mins of exercise also part of the plan? Is it daily?

I appreciate your help and I wish us both luck in getting back on the horse. Haha. Have a great night.

Don't you even worry about it !! I too have struggled something terrible this winter... everytime its cold ... all I want to do is EAT !!

On the simple diet (TSD)
you will need to eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies
3 protein shakes under 200 calories with at least 10 g of protein
and 2 frozen meals under 300 calories with at least 10 g of protein and under 9 g of fat !

that 's it !! no measuring , no counting !

I hope to get myself back in the swing of things also !! lets do this !!

Hi there ladies,

I am kind of new here... Not sure if you remember me, I was on TSD last year around this time and I did fairly well... Then as is always my issue, life happened and I lot my mojo. Well, I have decided to give it a go again... Starting fresh. I will need a little help starting out as honestly I do t remember the specifics about the plan. I remember eating the frozen healthy choice/smart ones 2x a day... But don't recall the calories or proteins to look for. I know you have to eat a lot of fruits and veggies and drink lots of water. If you guys could help me out.... I would be very grateful. I have let myself go and this long, cold winter hasn't helped any. I have roughly about 60-70lbs to lose... But frankly I'd be thrilled to lose half of that. I look forward to getting back on track and becoming a loser.... Lol. Thanks so much and I look forward to joining this journey with you all.
Keep up the good work!

Good morning to everyone. We have been having some really cold temps here and I will be so glad when it warms up so I can get outside.

I am still doing this eating plan and loving it. I was away yesterday so my meals were a little mixed up as they were different times of the day but stayed on plan.

Shake for breakfast today and for lunch I plan on having some veggies with refried beans on a tortilla. Will have my protein cookie for one of my snacks and a shake for the other one. Chicken strips and fruit this evening.

I love this plan as I can eat all of the things that are good for me - the veggies, fruit, protein.

Hope all of you have a great Tuesday.
Carolyn

Hey. Been busy, but I think I can take a breather now. Just mailed off the last of the church's tax paperwork. Now for a bit of catch up and then ours.
Went shopping and got a few dollar dinners to help make it to Friday. DH needed coffee for work so I got a few more things to make the trip worth while. Got in almost 1 mile between the big parking lot, grocery store, post office and bank.
It's 27 today. HEAT WAVE! Actually felt pretty good walking outside.
Have a nice day everyone.

Good morning to all. I haven't been here for a couple of days since I was away but am back and ready to continue with my plan. I am going to make a protein cookie for a snack and will have chicken strips and salad for lunch. Plan on using some pineapple and blueberries in my shakes.

I have tried the powdered peanut butter and liked it, but had a problem with staying out of it because it is so good. Shame on me, but glad it is gone.

Hope all have a great day,
Carolyn

Hi everyone, I've been quite busy and trying to use my spark people app for most of my tracking, but I really have to play around with it to be able to visit my teams, it's not designed to let you do that so it takes a lot of work and I can only visit one thread then start all over again. So tonight it's back to the tablet so I can do it quicker.
Paczki's are a Polish filled doughnut that's only available just before Lent. We've been told they were originally designed to use up the things in the kitchen that they couldn't eat during Lent. They are large rich and loaded with fat and calories. Even more calories than a normal doughnut. There are a couple of large Polish communities nearby so the local bakeries do a lot of varieties each year. DH found a bunch of cream cheese filled ones this year, and cream filled- that's a new one for us. They are finally gone and I am beginning to drop the extra Paczki weight.

I wish we were getting more snow to go with the arctic temperatures around here. Last week we had -20 at least one night. We've had to leave the faucet running in the bathroom to keep the pipes from freezing. At least if it snows it usually doesn't get quite so cold. I don't go outside unless I have to when it's this cold.

Keep warm Christine and don't let the snow melt too quickly.

Hello,

Christine~ I hope you're able to fight the sore throat off! Do you have crafts to do to keep your hands busy and have less interest/time to snack?

I make a weight watchers dessert that I love. It is a tub of fat free/low fat cool whip, a box of sugar free instant pudding and a can of pineapple. YUM! and really low calorie.

I am having a Healthy Choice meal for lunch and dinner and I ate a bar for breakfast. Plus extra fruits and veggies.

TTYL, Joan

Hi Joan,

Thank you so much. Congrats on your weight loss. Looks like we are really rockin this. I know what you mean about being cold. It has been very cold here, too. My weight loss was from a recent gain - actually since Thanksgiving when I sort of went "hog wild" with my eating. I am so frustrated with myself. Seems like I can lose, but then I just can't keep it off

Thanks for telling me about the article on the frozen meals. I will definately get some ideas from there I don't have much time for cooking this week but will try some next week.

Have a great week,
Carolyn

Happy Monday,

Carolyn~ Great job on the weight loss! On the start page of SP, to the right side of the screen is a box titled Today's Top Stories. There is a story there called 29 DIY Frozen Meals. Hopefully there'll be some good ideas for you.

It is cold, cold, cold here today! I was down 4 # when I weighed in on Saturday. It was so much because part of it was a recent gain, but heh, I'll take it.

Let's all prepare for an on plan day and week and weight loss at our next weigh in!

Good morning, Ladies.

I have really good news to report this morning. I was down another # making a total of 11# in 3 days back on this program. I know most of it was water weight gain, but I am glad to get rid of it anyway. So, you can see what sodium does to me.

I will check more of the entrees when I get back to the store but, so far, haven't found any that is fairly low in sodium. I will probably make a homemade entree that fits the guidelines. The protein bars sound good. I have some of those and have made some recipes that meet the guidelines so will see if I can find those.

I made a "cookie" yesterday for my snack instead of a shake. I took 2 T chocolate protein powder and mixed with 1 T chocolate syrup and added a little DaVinci syrup and microwaved for 45 seconds. Pretty good. Think I will make one using vanilla powder and sf strawberry syrup.

Thank you so much for all of the encouragement and food ideas. Hope everyone has a great day.
Carolyn

Hey ladies

The protein bar in grocery aisle at my wal mart that I like that DOES meet the critea for TSD is called Life choice meal bar in the flavor White chocolate pretzel ! It has 190 calories, 5g of fat, and 10 g of protein.... the sodium is 200mg
Carolyn that sodium is a VERY big problem with the frozen meals for sure ! Are the healthy choice ones any better ????
I generally do not eat very many protein bars as they are lot of calories and very small. I use them if I am going to be out shopping all day or have to go without meals !
I usually try to find one that satisfies my chocolate craving and use it for a dessert just every now and them !!

we have a prediction of 3 inches of rain with flash flooding today. Hopefully it will melt the snow as it will be the first day above freezing since last Sunday !

Good to see you Carolyn and Joan ........stay warm !

Hi Carolyn,

There really is a lot of sodium in frozen meals! When I shop next time I'll check and see if I can find any for you that are lower. Great job on the walking!! emoticon emoticon

Hello.
I am happy to be back on the Simple Diet. I have several premade shakes and protein powders that I need to use up, so this will be great. Entrees are something that I have a problem with as I have to really watch my sodium so I need to make some so I can stay on track.

When I was doing this before, I made several entrees that fit the guidelines so need to hunt up my recipes.

I am walking 30 minutes in the morning and 30 in the evening.

Hope everyone have a great Friday.
Carolyn

Hello and TGIF!

I bought strawberries and cream Equate shakes yesterday at Walmart.. I had one for breakfast and it was good.

I bought 3 different bars from the cereal aisle. I had the Great Value Chewy protein Bar, peanut butter and dark chocolate yesterday and it was wonderful. It has 190 calories, 12 gm. of fat, 10 gm. of protein.

I am working on getting extra steps in while I am at work today.

Have a great Friday, Joan

Hello,

I am headed to Wal-Mart after work to get some premade shakes and some bars. I remember I liked the Equate brand and they carried a bar I liked in the grocery aisle, not pharmacy. It met the guidelines, was inexpensive and came in yummy flavors. I'll try to track it down and will share what brand it is. I achieved my 10,000 steps yesterday and plan to do so today, too.

Christine~ Stay warm!!

Joan I have NOT tried the coffee thing due to it " clumping " in very hot items. I love my COFFEE almost SCALDING hot....... I usually have it in juices or crystal light..... it also does NOT work in any soda's or fermented drinks. It does ok in lukewarm soups and hot stuff.... problem is I like things VERY hot..... especially soups, coffee and such.... hot chocolate !!

I wish I could put it in more things ......... ahhhhhh well too bad.......

The snow has NOT melted and we are now expecting some sleet soon ...... YOW !!

Christine,
I have one of the Stouffers baked chicken dinners in the freezer and will eat it sometime this week.

What do you mix the UNJURY in? Some people mix it in coffee.

Thanks for sharing your favorites, Joan

Joan I would truly LOVE some 60 degree weather !!

My new favorite dinner is a stouffers one called bakedchicken with mashed potatoes and gravy ! Its 210 cal , 6 g f fat, 21gof protein !
I also like the new south beach diet snack bars whipped chocoate almond.... while itdoes not meet the critea for TSD .... its wonderful at only 100calories and 6 g of protein!

I have cooked cornbread beans to stay warm and trying to NOT SNACK !!!

Joan I also love a newproduct for me that is expensive....... its a non flavored protein powder called UNJURY. The folks with gastric bypass told meabout it ! I have not had the surgery but l always look for more protein

Christine~ Wow 9 inches! Stay warm and safe and control the snacking, LOL. It should be 60 here in NM today but we have definitely had our share of cold weather and snow this winter. I am looking forward to Spring, too.

What are some of peoples favorite pre made shakes, bars and frozen entrees? I generally mix my own shakes at home but need some for times when that isn't practical. I had a Healthy Choice portabella mushroom and beef last PM that was really good.

Take care, Joan

Good morning Joan and Anna !!

We received 9 inches of snow here in KY !! I have not seen this much snow in 24 hrs IN A LONG TIME !!!! It has paralyzed the area !! School has been cancelled along with all my other plans for the week !! I have bundled up on the couch and watched Hallmark valentine's day movies that I had DVRed !! I feel like a kid. Of course the constant snacking has been a problem also ! DH still had to go to work but mine got cancelled. My two dr appts for yearly checkups also got rescheduled !! so I am free to just be and enjoy the beautiful snow !! It truly is so WHITE..... the sun finally came out ( day two) and it glistens so beautifully and reminds me so much of what the Bible says about snow !
I have made 2 of my lowfat chicken recipes and will try to stay on track with my food today !!
I keep reminding myself that in 3 weeks we go to daylight savings time and in 4 weeks its the first day of spring !! I must prepare for it !!

good to see you again Joan emoticon

Good morning,

Hi Anna~ What are Paczkis? Could you ask him to keep them somewhere out of sight? After 30 years he should know you are sticking around. Have you asked him if he's afraid of losing you if you get smaller? Tell him you'll be around longer to love him if you lose weight and are healthy.

I packed my food for the day. I'm at work and will go to my second job immediately following the first job so I am packed for 3 meals and snacks.

Enjoy your day, Joan

Hi Joan, I'm Anna. I've been here for about 1 year and have lost almost 30# with TSD. Welcome back. emoticon

Last month and this month have been really rough for me. With all the church financial stuff last month and now taxes and Lent coming up. I've had little time to exercise.
DH found Paczkis and has gotten about 30 of them in the last 2 weeks. It wouldn't be so bad if he bought 2 at a time or even bought extra and ate them before getting home, he buys at least 6 at a time and brings ALL of them home. Last week Wednesday, he asked me if I wanted him to get some I said sure, expecting 2-4, he bought 16 so we could share them with the youth group- only 5 people showed up besides us. We had 5 each left over. emoticon I sometimes think he really doesn't want me to lose the weight for fear I'll either find someone else or someone else will see how nice I look and try to lure me away. He is so insecure. I guess for our 30th anniversary next week I'll have to figure out something that's not fattening to surprise him with. emoticon

Christine you are in my prayers.

Anna

Hello,

Hi Christine! Remember me?

I followed the Simple Diet about a year and a half ago and had good results. I am returing to this diet and will start up again in the morning. I've bought my frozen meals and already had shake mixes and fruits and veggies in the house.
Here we go!

Joan

Christine, as always you are in my prayers.
Going out with friends to celebrate DH's birthday a bit late (his B-day was in early January) but we are going to one of his favorite Mexican restaurants. I will give him half of my entrée and most of the toppings(I don't like guacamole or sour cream) so I shouldn't do too badly on the main part of the meal. I just have to watch the appetizers.

checkin in guys !! Thanks anna .... it has been a rough couple of weeks here ! My husbands uncle died suddenly and we drove 130 miles to stay and go to that funeral also. With all my crazy life stuff I have NOT concentrated on my diet like I should and it shows on the scale.
My MIL is having surgery for her cancer on Monday at Nashville (120 ) miles away also. I am going to try to go and be there but they are calling for snow and I hate to drive alone that far in bad weather !! DH has to work so ..........

keep on keeping on

The shop where we got the truck fixed took what the insurance would pay. We didn't have to pay the deductible. We wouldn't have been able to afford it otherwise. Girls school bills were about 10x as much this year as last. That killed our budget for everything.

Well hopefully things will get better around here. I'm trying to get organized so that I will have more time for things I want/need to do.

Glad to hear you have been able to get back on program. I've been out of shake mix for about a week and had to wait for pay day to get more. That makes it a lot harder to keep my calories in range. Home made shake substitute just doesn't satisfy like the store bought does.

Oh Anna that is SUCH a coincidence ( msp?) ! My husband hit a deer with his truck right before xmas !! We had to pay the 500 deductible !! NOT good timing but when is it ????You can get back to your routine and get back in the groove this week .... I KNOW IT !!
I finally had 2 complete days on program !! WOO HOO !! I am slowly getting back to the " mental " part of it and I know that the rest will follow !!

My niece is at the hospital now with some pains ???? NOT sure if it is her labor and they will keep her or NOT ???/ We will see. She 's having a boy !

Hang on and tell yourself that YOU CAN DO THIS !!!

have a great weekend

Now to get myself back on a schedule/routine!

Got a call from work today wanting me to come in and help. We are in the middle of returns at work and are running behind schedule. DH and I are down to one car this week. DH hit a deer with his truck about 10 days ago and is finally getting it fixed and the repair shop said it would take a full week to fix it. I told the assistant manager that I could come in tomorrow for extra hours just not today. She agreed!

DD is back at school. Still taking meds but much better.

I hope to recover from the 2 ten hour round trips very soon. I am trying to not only stay under 200 but to lose more. I was flirting with 200 all week. I can't flirt with it any more!

I need to start exercising more and regularly.

It supposed to warm up here this weekend and have some sunshine emoticon

Hello ladies,

I am Jeannine and I am following The Simple Diet this New Year. I had posted earlier on the New Members thread. Thank you for the replies.

The diet has been easy to follow and I am happy with the results. Not too much else to add at this point.

thanks anna for all the encouragment !!

you are so right ... we can do this !! I have woke up this morning with a head cold ... we are headed towards some VERY cold temperatures this week and so my goal for this week is to start tracking all my food and to get back to the simple diet !
I have gotten my book back out and plan to re read it to get motivated and Im not sure what to do about exercise ??... currently my knees are killing me and therefore my lower back has started in hurting also..... My main focus and first step this week is diet and my food intake !! I have to get on some schedule and routine !
My head is pounding this morning and I took some meds over an hour ago but no luck yet .....
we can do this

we will do this

one step at a time !

keep on keepin on

We can do this Christine. I'm looking at a gain right now- youth activity gone bad. Too many chaperones didn't show up to our all night activity and there were 4 LARGE bags of M&Ms and I needed to stay alert.
We can do this. We can do this. We will do this! Fruits, veggies, shakes and small meals, and exercise WORK! We know this. We must get back on the right path.
I've been relying on the exercise from working instead of working out at home. I need the motivation again to MOVE more, I am hoping to lose more this year(40-50) than last(25-30). I need to get down to a healthy weight. Then maybe my hips and feet won't complain so loudly. When I was still in the Air Force it was my knees, but they haven't complained in a long time, I don't know why, but I won't complain.
Throwing out the candy was a step in the right direction. Now add one more step (veggies?)and in a few more days add another step(10 minutes more walking?). In a week or two the steps will add up again and the scales will move in the right direction again. We can do this. We WILL do this. Together we can do this.

Christine, from looking at the other team I see you at least didn't gain over Christmas, that's great! Now for the new year and a new you!
I'm trying hard and tonight should be my last big hurdle, the Youth group is having a lock-in with DH making pizza to order for everyone and lots of snacks and I'm making muffins for breakfast, then go to work for a meeting-(usually lots of food) then home and crash. Since one of our couples is waiting for a call about a sick family member they won't be there and I will need to chaperone all night instead of going home to sleep for a few hours.
Here's hoping next week doesn't show a gain.

A slight gain at the last weigh in and even more appears to be in the picture for this week if I don't get things back under control soon. We went to a movie on Christmas day and the popcorn and goodies during the movie were too tempting. Besides that DD1 bought a 1# bag of black licorice one of my favorites(I rarely get it because DH can't stand the smell). Told her she needs to take the rest of it back to school tomorrow.

Well I guess I'm going to have to clear off the elliptical again and get serious about exercise again.

Happy Birthday Christine. Have a good day, and a healthy new year.

Saturday's party went quite well. Hopefully I didn't gain too much. Flirting with 200# again. Need to lose enough so I don't flirt with it anymore.

Got called in to work today, which helped get me away from food for about 5 hours which is a good thing.

Praying things go well for you.

Oh anna you are doing so well with yuour diet ! I am NOT !!!
N ow I have a terrible head cold and have slept most of this weekend away and I do NOT have the time to be sick. I just munch on whatever is handy and run run run ! NOT GOOD !!
I am so tickled for you !!
I know just what you mean about those " drinking " parties ! No fun for me and I am glad to not be subjected to very many of those ! Lucky..... when we lived in Nashville we were invited to some of those...... always awkward for me.
My niece's baby shower and our xmas is next week and its really " pushing " me to get things done EARLY this year !
gotta go and wrap some more

Well 1st Christmas party done. Now at least 4 more to go. Tomorrow is the one I dread the most. I don't know anyone- DH's 2nd job's party. We sit in a corner usually by ourselves, and even if someone sits with us we have very little to talk about. He works at a very large "factory" where they divide the party up into different divisions each held on a different night and still they pack out the hall- usually a golf course banquet room that holds between 2 and 3 hundred packed in like sardines. We stay until the drinking gets too much for us and we go home. He feels the need to show his face. I feel the need for quiet.

I love my job! I saw my oldest DD's 3rd grade teacher today. I haven't seen her in thirteen years or more and she is still the sweetheart that she was way back then. She stopped teaching about a year after my daughter was in her class. She wanted to be a stay at home mom. She was running off to pick up her daughter or we would have talked more.

Well, I've made it through the first couple(3) in a long line of Holiday get togethers and still can say the scale is showing that I didn't totally blow all the hard work in just a couple of meals(at most 1/2 to 1# gain, I'm still under 200). Monday and Saturday are the next 2 hurdles and since Monday is a plated affair and we had to order in advance I know there is a good chance of not going overboard at that party. Neither choice sounded that great, and they almost always have something that I don't or can't eat as the side so I'm only really concerned about next Saturday night for this week because it is a buffet. The next week is the youth group party and the main meal is hot dogs(yum....NOT). Our youth group leaders party is pot luck and I can expect everything from very healthy to diet busting that night. Around the 20th is the one we are doing and I'm usually so busy making sure everything goes well (coffee any one?, and are all the desserts cut, and or plated?) that I don't have a lot of time to eat.
