I see it's gotten pretty quiet around here. Everyone busy with holiday preparations?
My sore throat turned into a pretty nasty sinus infection with mild (for me) bronchitis. With the autoimmune respiratory issues I have, I'm prone to respiratory infections. Until I had a second sinus surgery and discovered that NSAIDS were making the respiratory issues worse, I had chronic bronchitis year-rpund and pneumonia at least once a year.

I've been pneumonia free for a couple years, I think and only get bronchitis maybe once or twice a year, and it lasts a couple weeks instead of a couple months.

I'm finally feeling close to normal, and I was able to get through it without prescription antibiotics. I did up my probiotic supplement dose and reduced carb intake, which seemed to help (some studies have found that probiotics have antibiotoc and antifungal properties. They may not "win" by killing the invaders, but instead by competing for resources (blood sugar especially, some say). So in essence the "bad bacteria" get crowded out by the good bacteria and "starve" from lack of food/sugar.

That's the theory, anyway. I'm skeptical, but I've never been able to beat bronchitis without antibiotics before. I've also never had mild bronchitis without it becoming severe bronchitis.

Either I was extremely lucky to get a "weak" strain of illness or the probiotics helped.

At any rate, I'm considering going back to paleo for a while, or trying to make some pseudo-paleo tweaks to the Simple Diet. At the very least, I need to control carb intake a bit more.

I feel best on paleo, it's just harde to stick to paleo when I'm too sick or fatigued to do much meal preparation.

On the plus side, I've lost 10 lbs in the last two days. A lot of that was losing the water gain from being sick and the sodium in the soups I've been eating, but I'm still 4-5 lbs down from before the sore throat.

I'm back! I didn't finish the novel or get in the full 50,000 words, but I got closer and further than last year.

Hubby made a big stock pot of turkey vegetable soup from the Thanksgiving turkey carcass yesterday (lots of veggies, fairly low in calorie). I was going to do it, but I was really tired yesterday and today I woke with a bad sore throat, muscle aches, and fever. Hubby apparently has a milder case of whatever this is. As always he's barely sick while I'm a hair's breadth away from pneumonia.

The soup really is the only thing in the house that tastes and feels good on my throat. I'm glad hubby made such a crazy-huge pot full. I'm hoping to get back on program within a couple days, but I don't think the soup diet will throw my weight loss too off-kilter.

Still haven't started with my workouts yet so decided to just wait until Monday. I have to go to a Cabi party that I so don't want to go to. It's going to take me a least 45 minutes to an hour to get to it, ugh! But I plan on staying for two hours and I'm outta there! I hate being around a gang of women! lol All that din starts to drive me crazy after a while. Note to self, do not make plans like that on a four day weekend! Cabi is a company that sells clothing.

Christine!!! - I found a good, easy gift in Woman's World magazine. I'm going to buy tea cups with saucers and various types of tea bags and chocolate and tie them up in some type of wrap with ribbon and a bow and call it a day!!!! Woot! Woot!! I'll be going to the thrift store to get the tea cups! Once that is done, I am finished with Christmas shopping!!! Oh wait! Have to go pick up a guitar and toilet paper at Costco!! lol But once that is done, I can say that I am truly Finished!!! Oh! I love Women's World!!!! lol

Susy - I would probably sneak from the bag too! lol I bought a fruitcake and it's at work. Can't wait to taste it! lol I know I'm one of the few that likes fruitcake. My mom use to eat it all the time and now I'm hooked! I just like it during the holidays.

I can say that even though I've been eating and not working out that I have not gained so that just shows me that I'm watching my portions.

I'll be ready to get started again come Monday! Hope everyone else is ready to R-U-M-B-L-E!!

I did well eating on Thanksgiving. It was a really big gathering so it was easy to stay under the radar eating mainly fresh fruits and veggies. Tomorrow is another family dinner but much smaller and with a grandma who keeps pushing the desserts. Overall, I'm very happy with how I did eating this holiday weekend (or at least so far).

I didn't do as well with exercise which is usually the part that is easy for me. I broke my toe a month ago and have been struggling to adjust to that. My toe is not that bad - but it does hurt a little so it's giving me another excuse to put off exercising.

Doritos are tricky, Susy! I usually don't care that much for them, but the rest of my family likes them so they are normally in my house. Once in a while, I'm in a mood and can't stop munching on them. Hope you can switch to some crunchy carrots soon!

-Dawn

Okay, I will weigh in here as well...

I ate and drank on Thanksgiving Day. (I fixed a huge FEAST!)

And now we've been on the road driving for two long days (6+ hours yesterday / 8+ hours today), so my nutritional intake hasn't been all that good. We will arrive at our RV park tomorrow late afternoon....

So my big plans are to start fresh on MONDAY! Exercise and nutritional choices.

Surprisingly, my husband's bags of Doritos are what is doing me in the worst! He brings them to bed with us when we watch late night television. And I keep finding my hand in the bag over and over. Eek!

Just say no, Susy!!!

Thankgiving Day was good. Cooked and ate with the family. It was nice and low keyed. Everyone loved the stuffing I made so I gotta say it was a hit. I'm still eating it. Was my first time making Thanksgiving dinner by myself. Then we went and hung out with some friends. I gotta say it was nice.

Wasn't motivated to do any workouts as of late but I'll be up and at it come tomorrow morning. Gotta get back in to the grove of things. Today has been just a lazy day. Still in my pj's in my newly decorated room and just enjoying a little bit of down time! emoticon

1) Great idea to rename this thread!
Can you do that? I thought the original poster could only be the one to rename it?

2) I like "Chatterbox!"

I like Chai Tea and Roobios (sp?) So good to me.

I went grocery shopping last night and it was, shall I say, Divine!!! Even though there was hardly anyone there, at first there was only one checker. I walked over and got a few magazines to start reading. lol Then they opened up two more lines when I started on the first story and I was the first in one! I even bought my stuff for Christmas dinner and Sparkling Apple Cider for New Year's Eve!!! That is power shopping baby! lol Susy, I never go to the store without a list! I would be so lost!

Christine/Susy - It's not really cold here in San Diego but it does get cold in the evening. And I've lived in cold weather states before so I know what you're going through.

Susy, don't know if it's determination...lol But I know that when it comes to my body, I have to incorporate workouts. It just seems harder to come off if I don't. Workout completed this evening. Off to bed so I can do it again tomorrow before I start prepping Thanksgiving dinner.

Hey Christine! Thanks for the soup tip! I will need to try it out.

When I went to find it, I had a little bit of a search, so here is the link for others:
recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detai
l.
asp?recipe=2262385

I also forgot to mention that I bought the ingredients for the quick cauliflower soup that was posted--but haven't had the opportunity to try it yet!

DEESHAREE shared it! Here it is again for anyone that wants it:

CAULIFLOWER SOUP

One carton of low sodium chicken broth
1 large onion
*Two 20 oz. bags cauliflower

Put all ingredients into a pot & cook 15-20 minutes until cauliflower is soft. (Add a pinch of baking soda when it comes to a boil to remove gas.) Let cool, then put into a blender to puree.
* Can be made with zucchini or broccoli.

DEESHAREE... so, your name that you go by is Deer? Correct this if it's wrong---otherwise, I guess we're going to start calling you Deer! :)

And I am so HAPPY that the "magic pixie dust" that I sent you worked! Yay! (You made me smile!!!)

I am in awe of you doing your workout -ON- Thanksgiving! WTG! Probably Denise will too. I wish that I had both of yours workout determination!

I'm not whining, but I will be in the kitchen for hours single-handedly preparing my usual Thanksgiving feast for those family members (and my girlfriend) that are coming over. No, I don't try to change my recipes to make anything more diet-friendly. On someone's birthday or the holidays that I cook, I make my dishes the way I learned them a long time ago. (Crisco, sugar, etc.) Otherwise, I don't use most of that stuff any other time of the year.

Okay! Over and out for me!

Can I say BURRRRRRRRRRRRRR

baby its cold OUTSIDE !!! I cannot believe this cold weather already ???? Its been very " gray" the last two days here. I really really miss walking outside and this weather sorta depresses me ........ boo !
I finished decorating the tree and Now I will have to start wrapping !! I never have this much done this early and it seems very very strange !

susy - glad to hear from you and when do you leave to go to alabama ?? Yes I think the bad weather is sweeping through the midwest ! while I am not a big fan of hot tea, I watched dr OZ last year really talk about it so I occasionally drink one I buy at walmart that is a Fusion green and white tea ! He highly recommended a white tea for weight loss. I am also making my stand by soupthat I make every winter called REFRIED bean soup. I have the recipe posted here on spark people under my name if interested. I could live on it and it tastes like a meatless chili. Reminds me of wendy's chili....... I usually have a serving and a half to get enough protein for a meal which is a cup and a half. VERY filling !!

Dawn so glad to see you

Jennifer I hope you are doing great

DEE- great job on the workouts !! emoticon

Denise you are so right ..... we must just do the best we can during the holidays !

Colleen - where are you ? L eave that writing long enough to say hello ........ kkk ???

Keep on keeping on

Christine

Sure love reading everyone's positivity! It's contagious!

I too need to hit the grocery store, but not before I write out my list. (And I'm not looking forward to the long lines!!!)

This weather here in Kansas City is so COLD! I know it's mostly from that severe winter storm that's been moving across the upper United States and wreaking VERY frigid temperatures.

And when we're cold, we naturally look to food to warm us UP! So remember that you can choose soups and hot teas! When you go to the store next, think about spoiling yourself with some good teas! Anyone have any favorites???

I like two brands: Traditional Medicinals (usually found in health food sections) and I also like the Republic of Tea. They make a vanilla flavored tea that is divine!

Hey Dawn!

Welcome, welcome, welcome! So happy to have you here!!!

Susy, your pixie dust worked!

I was crazy busy this weekend. But I did fit in some Zumba and Treadmill work.. I really like the strawberry Equate shakes from Walmart. I'll be sticking to that and my soup. I didn't lose anything but it's TOM as well..

My plan is to workout Thanksgiving morning and Friday morning ....I will resume TSD on Saturday. I have a party on Friday night. Ugh. But I will be in control...

Hi Dawn!!!

Welcome to the board!!!

I'm not a big eater when it comes to the holiday's but I say if everyone just ate a small portion of their favorites and still kept moving, I think we would probably stay at the same weight until we are ready to take the diet back up again. I like this plan but I still like eating some of my favorite holiday meals and I will eat them but in moderation.

My plan is to still eat for Thanksgiving and Christmas but to get back to TSD on the other days when I'm not making Merry!!! lol which is the majority of those days. :-) And of course, to keep up with the workouts. I think I will either stay the same or lose but definitely not gain.

I say, try your best to maintain through the holidays. So what if you gain a pound or two. All of us WILL be back on it full force come the 1st, maybe 2nd of January!!! lol

I've already planned my strategy for the rest of this year and my plan from January to March have been mapped out too so I'll be raring to go in the New Year!!!

Thanks for welcoming me to you team, everyone. I've read a few of the past posts on here to start getting to know everyone. I already can relate to those of you who were talking about not really loving to shop. Same here - my husband enjoys shopping more that I do!

Anyone have some good ideas for staying on the plan for Thanksgiving/holiday meals? I know once in a while it's fine to splurge for a special meal and then get back on track, but I have trouble with the holidays because we have lots of family. That means from now until Christmas I will have MANY "special" dinners. I think I'll end up way off this plan on those days.

Heading to the grocery because I'm about out of fruit to go with my meals...

-Dawn

Oh my! I am here! It was just such a BUSY past four days: My birthday on Thursday, babysitting granddaughters all day on Friday, going out shopping on Saturday (and lunch) with girlfriend---then going out Saturday night for my actual birthday party. Then on Sunday, which I thought was going to be a rest day, turned out to be quite busy too!

Then this morning, DH and I had to drive BACK to this mall that was 20 miles away to pick up his credit card that he left at Applebees. (I had a WW approved meal when I was there! LOL) His credit card was safe; thank goodness, but you know how stressful that can be when you can't find it. We also had to run a number of errands while we were out this morning.

I can't believe I've been MISSING from this thread for four days!!! It feels like forever.

In the meantime, one of my Spark friends (DAWNINSHAPE) has joined this team! She introduced herself over on our thread: Welcome New Members. I do hope several of you will welcome her to our team! www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

Denise:
You are one smart cookie! I would have left immediately once I heard about the shooting as well. That kind of stuff is so scary!

Christine:
It seems like I can't find my size either when I see something really cute at Kohl's. It's so great that we can order it through Kohls.com!

Jennifer/DIETROCKSTAR:
I love, love, LOVE it when you drop by and post on our threads! You were really the very first person I "met" and learned about The Simple Diet from! I can firmly vouch for the encouragement you can get from this team when one is a regular poster!

Dee:
Okay girl, if I've been MIA from this thread and being encouraged to get back to posting here, well then I'm going to send the MIA flag out to find YOU and get you back here too! We need our Spark buddies---and that includes you!

Okay, over and out for me. I need to pick up my messy RV, and get some Christmas cards addressed. Plus make my list for my Thanksgiving meal.

Christine - That is not a bad idea! lol (That is how I normally do it!) I need one present to knock out all presents because shopping is not the bizness! lol I don't see how people get off, shopping. It does absolutely nothing for me.

I went to Khol's yesterday and actually found a Christmas party outfit in about two passes! Let me say I was ecstatic!!!! That has NEVER happened! Went to BigLots and quickly found what I needed! Found nothing in Ross's and was happy to get the heck outta there. When I was in Khol's this girl walked in stating that there was a shooting at WallyWorld. Even though I was in Khol's which is around the corner, shopping trip ova!!! I hate that Walmart and try not to never go! So, let's just say, I'll be doing the rest of my shopping online!!! lol

Gotta go to Michael's today and finally get my picture frame. And then when I get back home, I need to do my workout. And since I couldn't find anyone's house to schlep over to for Thanksgiving I'm going to cook some Cornish Hen's and sides and be done with it, so I'll be getting my list ready.

Hey ladies

Its Sunday morning and I am headed out the door to Worship. My hubby works all weekend this weekend and I have been " fluffing" the xmas tree. I thought I would get an early start since I take so long to get things done.

Denise- I thought I was one of the FEW women alive that Hates shopping ! So glad to hear that I am NOT ALONE !! I came up with a sort of weird Ideal for gifts and so everyone is getting them and I sure hope they like them. But that really helps KNOCK out a lot of gifts in one swoop !! I bought everyone some really nice memory foam pillows on sale. Who doesn't need a new nice pillow ? However some people are pretty attached to their old ones , I know for sanitary reasons we really need to get new ones so often . Maybe it will work ...huh ?

Between cooking, shopping, and wrapping and decorating the holidays can be pretty stressful. I am a stress eater also so here we go !!

Hope SUSY had a wonderful b day !!

Susy - Happy Birthday!

Christine - I don't mind you asking! I'm loving my room so far! Man! I hate getting outta bed anymore cause I love it so! lol I can't wait to reveal it everyone but I want it to be completed when I do!

I agree that if we all can just hang in there with what weight we've loss so far, we would all be so much better off come the New Year! I isn't easy staying on track during the holidays so I say why stress yourself out trying to lose. If it happens, fine but if we can just keep our losses, then that's just as good. I can't wait until the new year to start! I love restarting my program in January! I've already mapped out what I'll be doing as far as workouts and my eating program. I bought a meal replacement system some time ago and I want to do it next. And of course it's still based on the TSD. And I've mapped out what I'll be doing for the rest of the year.

Tomorrow, if it's not raining like cats and dogs I plan on doing some shopping myself. I absolutely hate shopping so I gotta get it done and outta the way. Wouldn't it be nice if I could get it all done tomorrow and shipped by next week some time! lol Dream on Denise! lol This holiday came quick! I also have to buy an outfit for our company Christmas party. ugh!!! And I have to find me some fruit cake! I love the stuff! lol Von's should have it out come next week! Dang! I'm gonna be busy!!! I'm tired already and haven't started yet.

Hey everyone

Just a quick post to say that I am running out the door to do some holiday shopping !

Jennifer - I know just how you feel. The Holidays seem like an undaunting thing but last year was the first year EVER that I ended the year with a loss. !! In the past I have always lost all year long to only put it back on October through December what took me Jan - sept to lose !! Year after year after year after year that has been my pattern !! Last year I decided I COULD do something about that. Granted I DID NOT lose a lot in the months of november and December but I held on and if I had just " give up" like before it would have been the same ole thing. SO not to be or sound " preachy" but wow oh wow if we just hang on and don't " give up" just think what we can do and maintaining is better than gaining !!
I said all this to say.... I am WITH YOU .... let's be strong and do it TOGETHER !!

SUSY- I sure hope that you are having fun.... it sounded like this is a pretty important weekend for you and I am amazed you have your holiday stuff done already !

well I lost another 1/2 pd this week and I will take it with all the cookies and the cookie swap !!

Keep on keeping on gang !

denise - I asked about your room so much because I am gonna try to re do my spare bedroom after the holidays too !!!

I'm starting to feel a holiday slip up. It is because I did not weigh the chicken I ate yesterday and the fear is that my not tracking it will lead to more not tracking and then I'm off to eating who knows what this holiday season.

It is a difficult time to year to be watching your weight.

I think I also felt overwhelmed with the coming rain and it was only today that I got the patio ready for the weather. Now that I took care of that some stress should be relieved but then Thanksgiving is next week. I have to clean some house!

It is good to see all of your posts! I need to be coming back to this page more often!

Just popping in for a quick second!

= It's my birthday today, and I've been busy, busy! =

But my good news is that I lost another 2 oz (not huge, I know). But considering that I keep eating out instead of staying perfectly on TSD, I'm just happy to keep seeing the scale number drop.

However... I MUST get back busy with my exercise and dinner meals!!!

I will check back in later!

Christine – Good job staying on track. I definitely will take measurements and post. I bought metal sconces that hold candles. I didn’t’ know they made sconces for flowers. Lol I only remember sconces because my daughter brought them up.

Susy – you are going to be one busy person. I don’t know about you but the holidays came to fast this year. I still need to go shopping (online of course), put up the tree after Thanksgiving and I need to find someone’s house to go eat at for Thanksgiving because I am NOT cooking!!! Lol I Will for Christmas though. :-)

Dee – I’ve heard of those shakes many years ago but can’t say that I tried them. You may want to go to Amazon to check the reviews. Some say the formula has changed and that they don’t keep you full like before the change.

I noticed a difference in the smoothie I made yesterday and today. I forgot to put flaxseeds in the one yesterday and I could really tell a difference. My tummy was grumbling something fierce. I remembered today and no rumbly in my tumbly…lol So I must remember to add the Flax and may even add it to my salad tomorrow.

Susy, I'm exhausted just reading your to do list Whew!,

I went to my first Turbokick class ever! After the class the instructor said I was fantastic! I used to do Turbo Jam and was so afraid I wouldn't be able to keep up, but I did and had a ball! She's a good instructor and I felt encouraged by her kind words..

Kudos, Christine! It feels so good knowing you are taking control.

Denise, way to go on your weight loss!

Has anyone ever tried Right Size smoothies? I heard it advertised on the radio and was wondering about it!

Have a great day, Dee

Yay Christine! I know how TERRIFIC it feels to get BACK on track! Glad it's happening for you!

Even though I know you know this, I'll repeat it so that I can hear it again myself:

We really SHOULDN'T beat ourselves up overly much when we don't do what we know works--because then we're making it HARDER for ourselves to get back going!

Alright! On to renewed strength! Yes?! Yes!!!

Denise!
CONGRATS! CONGRATS! CONGRATS on your 2.4 lb loss for the previous week! Sometimes I too experience a loss when I know that I didn't do anything to deserve it. But then there are those times when we work out butts off, and nothing! So take your 2.4 lb loss and continue going forward (which I know you will)! So happy, happy for you!!!!

Here's what I'm doing in the next few days/weeks:
=Today, I need to do a MAJOR pick-up of just STUFF that's laying out in my RV.
=I also want to put up some of my Christmas decorations (indoors).
=Got the holiday music playing to help me with my holiday mood! (It's working!)
=Going to my last TOPS meeting tomorrow here in Kansas City.
=Taking my adult son to his eye doctor appt. after my TOPS meeting.
=Babysitting my two granddaughters all day on Friday.
=It will probably be our last visit with them before we leave here for the winter. So I need to get their presents wrapped and give to them on Friday.

And I'll stop there (even though there's MORE on my TO-DO list) just so I can get started getting stuff DONE! LOL

I will keep trying to pop my head in here on this team: Again, y'all mean a lot to me while I'm doing TSD! Neither of my two girlfriends turned out to actively really "do" the diet. So... that means each of YOU are my support team! LOL

And I am yours!

Christine - glad you could get the stuff you needed to complete, done. Isn't it nice to stay off the computer at times. I'm on a computer all day so being off for a while was heaven!

Yep! My room is almost done. I finally got my sconces yesterday! Won't put them up until I get my picture framed so it will still be a few before I can post pictures for everyone to see.

Although it is not my weigh-in date I weighed this morning and found out I've lost 2.4 lbs. I don't know how that happened but it did and I ain't complaining. I just need to do more of it! lol Since starting in September I'm down 9.8 lbs! It takes this body a while to lose weight anymore but I'm okay with it as long as I'm going in the right direction.

Good tuesday morning ladies !

Yesterday I had no ISP due to the storms in the area ! It gave me incentive to stay off of the computer for a day. IT did come back on later in the day but I had found I could do some other things that I needed to do !!

DEE- emoticon emoticon emoticon on weight loss lady !!

doing the HaPpY DaNcE for you !! wonderful , wonderful and that will only spur you on to do more great things !! way to go with the tracking !!

Denise- so glad you are getting your room close to completion and now you will be getting yourself back on track too !! It does seem to take me some " DOWN " time too after company leaves ???? don't know why for sure ????

Susy - I hope you are doing well and getting those old shakes of your used up ???? I too have been looking at my simple diet. I have gotten away from watching my protein so Maybe I need to make sure I am getting enough in. I used some protein powder supplements a day or too !

Those darn cookies drove me NUTS all WEEKEND and totally derailed TSD !! I sent them to work with my husband on monday but the damage is already done I'm afraid !! ERRRRRR !!

oh well can't cry over spilt milk and I must move on.....
Keep on keeping on

Susy - I decided today that I would do the smoothie in the morning and a Slimfast drink later on in the day. I like stated it is convenient.

I completed my workout this evening. I was so happy that the workout I was to do next was Cardio Recovery. But Alas!!! tomorrow it will be Plyometric Cardio. lol I can't wait to start on Jillian Michael Body Revolution but I have to complete Insanity first. Had I not taken time off, I'd only have about three weeks left instead I have five. But at any rate I'm hell bent on getting it finished.

Off to bed I go!!!

Yikes! I just realized that we haven't heard from Christine (SKINNIESOMEDAY) since her last post... which was Saturday morning. She mentioned storms were coming her way (high winds and possible tornadoes). Now I'm getting really WORRIED about her!!!

Hello Ms. Denise! You stranger, you! Welcome HOME!!! We missed you, girlfriend.

Sounds like you have your world back in order: a clean house and your meals all prepped and your mentally back in the game! Woot! Woot! Yeah!

What a TERRIFIC compliment to get from your boss! And of course from Victor as well! Doing the ...happy dance... for you!

Speaking of going back to smoothies...
I have been buying the Equate shakes for ultra convenience--and I like them well enough. But... I have a huge container still almost full of the Garden of Life Raw Meal Vanilla Spiced Chai. It is super-nutritious and has live probiotics and enzymes. I'm going to go back to using that for my first shake of the day---even though the numbers are a little higher than recommended. I don't want it to go to waste.

Over and out for me y'all. It's getting to be near midnight when I =poof!= turn into a pumpkin! A sleeping pumpkin! ha!

Deesherre - Congratulations on your loss. That is awesome!

Yes, I have been missing once again. I just could not get motivated last week. Once the company finally left I still could not do it. I had to make a clean sweep and what I mean by that is, clean my apartment from the top to the bottom. And boy do I feel better!!! lol I've prepped my breakfasts/lunches for the week and I'm ready to start working out once again. I've printed my log and I'm ready to go!

I'm going back to my smoothies as a replacement meal. I think I like them best and I think I felt a lot better drinking them. I had a better routine in that I drank my smoothie for breakfast and two glasses of water before I even got to work. I'll also make one to take to work and drink later. And of course my frozen meal, side salad and fruit.

I finished my duvet cover!!! Yipppee!!!...Man the room looks so much different once I put it on my comforter. I found a folding table as a temporary solution for my bedside table. Bought some lamps. Don't like the shades so I'll be taking those back but it's looking a lot nicer than before.

Hope everyone is doing well on The Simple Diet. My boss looked at me one day and said, man you're getting skinny and Victor said it too! So it is definitely encouraging!

Christine, so sorry you had to go to two funerals. I'm dying for you to share the Ritz recipe but please don't. Ritz crackers are my downfall. Lol. I had to end my affair with Mr. Ritz.

I watched a Jillian Michaels on You Tube. I liked what I saw, but never got around to doing the workout. There are lots of free workouts on you tube, including Leslie Sansone! Just Google exercise you tube or Leslie Sansone you tube, and all these full length workouts are available
for free!

Have a good night and I hope the weather isn't too bad...I did hear about the tornado warnings so please be safe....

Ladies, ladies! I hope your weekend went well... Just wanted to share that I lost 6 pounds this week! That tracking, working out and drinking water paid off. I also made my soups too! I forgot to share those easy to make recipes with you:

Enjoy...

CAULIFLOWER SOUP

One carton of low sodium chicken broth
1 large onion
*Two 20 oz. bags cauliflower

Put all ingredients into a pot & cook 15-20 minutes until cauliflower is soft. (Add a pinch of baking soda when it comes to a boil to remove gas.) Let cool, then put into a blender to puree.
* Can be made with zucchini or broccoli.

Weight Watchers Vegetable Soup

Ingredients
Makes 6 servings
1/2 cup carrots, sliced
1/4 cup onions, diced
2 garlic cloves, minced
3 cups fat-free beef, chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup green cabbage, diced
1 cup spinach, chopped
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/4 tsp dried oregano
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup zucchini, diced

Directions
Spray a large saucepan with nonstick cooking spray, and heat.

Place carrot, onion and garlic in saucepan. Sauté vegetables over low heat for 5 minutes, until softened.

Add broth, cabbage, spinach, tomato paste, basil, oregano and salt. Bring saucepan to a boil.

Reduce heat, and simmer, covered, for 15 minutes. Stir in zucchini, and cook 3-4 minutes.

good saturday morning simple team !

well I went to the two funerals last night and then I have been busy making the cookies for the cookie swap. This is a new recipe and my MIL loves them. I ate one and EXTREMELY rich ! They are called Puttin on the Ritz. They are on a Ritz cracker. Now to figure out HOW to transport these things !!

I have licked my wounds and am trying to stay motivated. I did an extra workout yesterday. I ordered a Jillian Michael's "beginner " workout since I had heard she is so tough, some time back so I dragged it out and did it. It was 6 circuit interval training and I have to say that I liked it. It really kept my interest since there is some cardio in there. It has two workouts one is for your front side and the other for the back side of you...... boy do I need it all over .... LOL !! I did the back workout and plan on doing the front sometime this week. Maybe this will help my weight loss ?????

Dee - good to hear from you and I agree with Susy ... WTG on getting the ticket wiped off !!
Your insurance would have gone up and you don't need that !! I have had only one speeding ticket in my life and my car insurance IMMEDIATELY went up when that happened !! could not believe it ???

They are talking big storms here for possibly tonight and tomorrow so If I am not on here it means we have lost ISP ! Possible tornado's and high winds !!

gotta go and do my 3 mile walk

keep on keepin on
Christine

Thanks, Dee, for the support! I can see that if I tracked my food intake, it could be motivating. (I just have to get over my dislike of entering things into the Spark tracker! LOL) I already do track my food choices into a small notebook, but all I do is scribble down "Shake #1, Entree #1, orange, salad, etc.). I don't write out calories, protein, etc.

Goodness gracious! You're RIGHT: Thank goodness for your iPhone so you could take pictures of your car NOT parked illegally! I hate that other people cause ME to have to be on the defensive! Happy for your outcome, Dee!

And... how about sharing that veggie and cauliflower soup recipe?! I'd like to take a look and see if it's a soup I'd like to make and eat!

Oh Christine! I can really hear the frustration in your voice! My heart is going out to you, my friend. What about Dr. Anderson's Facebook group where he personally responds to people's questions? Could you send him a note and tell him how things are NOT going for you? At least you could see what he says, and it might help keep you encouraged.

You KNOW that we (on this team) want you to stay encouraged! You're our leader!!! You keep us in line and our minds focused. We need you!!!

In the meantime:
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

CONGRATS on your 1-year of keeping OFF those 50 pounds!

I'm sure you realize that KEEPING IT OFF is still a HUGE accomplishment! Some say it's even harder than losing it---and I have to tend to agree with that!

Hey Gang,

Well I lost exactly half a pound this week. I am FRUSTRATED. This is the same half pound that I have been gaining and losing for over 6 weeks now !! ERRRRRRR . I really really tried this week and exercised 5 days and watched what I ate. I have basically plateaued for over 6 months now and I am not sure what to do about it. ????

On the good news front..... Today marks the one year anniversary of me losing 50 pounds so I have now kept it off for over a year. This is something I have NEVER accomplished before EVER !! I am thrilled about it but disappointed that I have stalled and lost only 9 pds since last november basically. NOT Acceptable. I need to lose about 60 more. I WILL NOT GIVE UP !! I am so worried the holidays are coming and I have to hang tough to keep this off but I want to LOSE MORE !!

I have two funerals to go to and a stupid cookie swap to attend this weekend so I shall be busy cooking foods and baking cookies ( ouch - not thrilled)

Keep on keeping on

christine

Happy Friday everyone!

It's been a crazy week, I had to go to traffic court for a parking ticket yesterday morning! I pleaded not guilty, showed all my evidence and they dismissed my case. Sometimes these officers want to fill their quota at the end of a month... I clearly was not parked illegally. Thank God for iPhones. Anyway, I am glad that is over!

I made my cauliflower and veggie soups this week, so I've been eating them and adding them to the eating plan. I just couldn't look at another salad this week.

Susy, so glad your presentation went well. You will get your mojo back!,, I started tracking everything I ate again and that helped tremendously. I hope it shows on the scale this week.

Have a super weekend team!

Dee

Okay, I am glad that my TOPS presentation is now over! It was fun to prepare and then give it... but now it feels like I can take a break (until the next thing comes along)! LOL

Christine, you asked me about my presentation:
This one wasn't really a defined one-topic presentation. I touched on several topics:

"Give Yourself a Fever."
"It's GREAT to Feel Crappy!"
"Easy Ways to Scent Your Home for the Holidays."
"Think of Every Day as Day 1."

Since my presentation length was 20 minutes, each of the above mini-topics were about 4 minutes each. And for my final part of the presentation, I used my cell phone to pull up and play the old song, "When the Saints Go Marching In." (Version by Danny Kaye and Louis Armstrong) It was a VERY lively version!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oaM3kgJYOA

After just about 1 minute of listening to it, I turned it off and passed out copies of the TOPS version (from an old songbook) "I Want to Be at That Meeting." We sang it with gusto, and our chapter president started us all marching through the room as we sang it (like a conga line)! Everyone felt energized and upbeat! (My purpose for having us sing that particular song, of course!!!)

Well, enough about that! How's everyone doing with the Simple Diet this week? I've had some very lax days. It just seems like something keeps coming up. My mojo's missing!!! And... not surprising, my weight loss has stalled.

I can't whine when I know exactly WHY it's stalling. emoticon

Hey! I was browsing around on the walmart.com site and specifically looked up the Equate shakes.

Someone shared what they did with their shake to make it almost like an ice cream:

"I put the shake into a blender with approximately 25 ice cubes and a banana, pulse until cubes are finely crushed, then blend for about a minute. It's great like that or pour into a BIG cup and freeze. Unbelievable how it satisfies the ice cream lover in me! Takes a while for me to finish it this way. Talk about satisfying a craving!!!"

And here's someone's suggestion:
"I've even frozen it in ice-cupe trays and made smoothies out of it with and without bananna or strawberries or cinnamon. Even added a 1/2 teaspoon of instant coffee - WOW!!!"

emoticon I'm here! I'm here!

I'm trying to make myself stay 'on task' of working on my TOPS presentation. (It's due this Thursday.) But I keep drifting to other web sites and reading health articles! LOL

Hey! Just an FYI to our group on THIS thread... There's a new thread that I'd love to see receive some posting love! It just involves sharing a tip from your book, The Simple Diet. What did you highlight in your book? I'll keep posting something every couple of days. But I'd love to read what y-o-u thought was good too.

Here's the link: www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/team_mes

Remember to hit the Subscribe to This Discussion button while you're there!

I'm completely on plan today! Happy about that!

Christine, we've got gorgeous, sunny weather here in Kansas City today too. However, it is cold outside! I've got my rebounder unfolded (from when the granddaughters were here) and I'll probably do a little bouncing on that this afternoon. Plus, I intend to get back to my Leslie Sansone "Muscle Mile" fitness dvd. I'll bet you DID get lots of leg (and glute) exercises done with all that stair walking! And how great to get rid of "stuff!" Now come over here and spend a day to inspire me!!! (I would LOVE to spend a day with you!!!)

Denise! Don't you just LOVE it when you have a creative project to work on?! In this case, you're still creating your GORGEOUS dream bedroom! I actually just bought two decorative wall plaques for one of my bare walls. And can you guess the color?! LOL If you guessed orange, you'd be right!

DEESHAREE! We've loved hearing from you. Keep dropping by! Regular encouragement and support is so-ooo helpful for staying on track!

LOVEDBY2, I need to look you up and see if you were able to get your Spark page up and running! So glad you're ready to get that started! We'll stop by and visit you there! But make sure you keep visiting us HERE too! LOL

DIETROCKSTAR!!! I just love that Spark name! It sounds so FUN!

Colleen... write. write. write! We know you're busy with your November project! Just keep in mind that we're thinking about 'cha!

Well, it's back to working on my TOPS presentation. Talk to all of y'all again soon!

Keep on... (finish this sentence!) LOL

Happy tuesday everyone !

I have already exercised inside since its a balmy 30 degrees outside !! The sun is shining and it looks beautiful at least ! I have cooked my fav winter soup called refried bean soup and it smells good , I will be eating at lunch ! YUM !! I have sorted several more piles of clothes unfortunately in several different sizes and I must get them out of my house..... so tired of all this stuff !!
Today I will be running up to my Church building to make some meals and take some to our shut in people. A bunch of ladies take turns cooking and doing this... we have 12 meals to prepare today. I dread getting out in the cold. There are so many of us that I usually only do this about once every 6 weeks or so.
I feel like I have gotten extra exercise in by going up and down from the attic to bring and return clothes !! My legs will be thanking me !!

Denise - you may collapse after they all leave !! LOL !! also wanted to ask you if you have a Hobby Lobby near you ? They run specials on framing every other week and I've gotten some pictures framed there pretty reasonable too !

Susy - what you up to today ?

Can't say that I've been on point with the plan. Just hard right now but soon as I get my home back it should get better.

Susy - glad you had a great time with your grand-babies. Shoot! I woulda traded with you! lol Rather be around them than grow-ups at times. I love playing with kids. My grandkids think I'm nuts!!! But I do enjoy them! I wouldn't worry too much about being off the plan. You know eventually you'll be back on it because it's always in the back of your mind. emoticon

Christine - one more day and I've made it through!!! lol I could probably tolerate it more if I lived in a house but I live in a two bedroom apartment. And then I find out from Victor that another little girl was over. Didn't even see her when I walked in. I told him, dang, here I am trying to get rid of people and you keep bringing them in. Sheesh! But she's gone already. I'm thinking I may not start working out until Thursday because now I feel like I have to clean up.

Yeah, couldn't believe they didn't sell zippers by the yard but I was able to find it online. I didn't feel like driving another place to get it.

As for my night stand still haven't found it yet. The one I was looking at, the seller never responded the second time so I'm guessing he/she decided not to sell it. What's the point in posting, if you're gonna change your mind about it. But at any rate I will find one eventually. I may just get one of those fold up stands for now until I can find it.

My picture came in so I need to go get it framed once I find a 55% off coupon at Michael's...lol I never pay full price! And my sconces should be rolling in soon. emoticon

I hardly got any sleep last night so I'm off to get some sleep. Be back soon!!!

Happy Monday everyone

I had a maintenance man come and check out my furnace and or heating unit before winter gets here this morning . I am still sorting through some clothes to give away or get rid of . Its a wonderful warm day here in the 60's and the lady bugs have swarmed my porch. Tonight they are calling for record low's with some possible snow flurries and sleet !! OWWW !!! I am not ready for that yet !! No accumulation though so I must just bundle up and I quess I will exercise inside tomorrow for sure !

Susy- it sounds like a great time with your grandkids ! How awesome and you painted a great picture of you all running in the leaves ---very neat !!

Denise - I feel your pain and I hope you live through the difficult house guests !! I am shocked too that a fabric store had not a zipper ??? I am getting excited to see your room and you are going to be so happy and content ..... have you found the night stand/ end table yet ???

Colleen - I hope your writing is going well

Jennifer- I hope your week is going well too and that you are staying on track!

YIKES! Oh, Denise... That's not good! We just had two children (7 and 9) for the weekend with us in this small RV... and our dog. And that really gets cramped for room. But at least we got to tell the kids what they could and couldn't do---i.e., boss them around! LOL

Too bad you can't nicely "boss" your company around so that you can do what needs to be done so it's easiest for you! LOL

Okay, so we'll see you when we see you after they're all gone and you are back to your normal routine.

Like Denise, I did NOT get any of my workouts done. The two girls had their weekend STUFF spread out over our living room. The two recliners were full of their stuff. Our couch was being used for their bed, but during the day had their stuff on it. Their shoes and coats were strewn around. Just no way to get ANY of my workout done.

I love those two granddaughters to death (why is that an expression: "to death"???), but it's a zoo when they're here. They love our dog and so there's just constant activity.

Oh! That reminds me! I did run with them in the leaves behind our RV. (Don't ask me to define "run" at my age of 58 years old! ha!) So maybe I did get just a bit of cardio done! ha/ha We were "running" through these deep piles of leaves as fast we could go while NOT picking up our feet. So the leaves were getting kicked up, and the dog was just running, running, running and chasing the leaves! It was quite the sight!

Now I saved my bad news for last: Remember when I said that DH takes them to their favorite restaurants, etc., etc.? Okay, so I ate out all weekend OFF my plan... Pooh!

Now it's back to work!

Can't wait til these people leave my house!!! Tuesday can't come soon enough! Haven't been able to do anything workout related. Sheesh!!! I'll be glad when they get ghost! I did cook my meals for the week; had to cook a lot more because I have to feed everyone. At least I know for a fact this craziness is not going to happen again since Victor's sister is the main culprit for all the company and she is moving over 2,000 miles away! Yippee!!!! lol

Found some material for the back of my duvet cover, finally!!! Sewed it up now I'm just waiting for the zipper to come in so I can sew it all together. What kind of fabric store sells upholstery fabric but no zipper by the yard. That is just plum dee crazy! lol

If you don't see me for a couple of days it's because I'm just trying to make it through Tuesday. But will return soon after!!!

Hi Gals, The writing is going well. I wish my back were a little stronger, so I could write longer, because the weather and sitting is taking it's toll on my joints. I try writing in bed, but usually I just fall asleep.

I'm hoping to have a completed first draft (or at least 50,000 words) by December 1.

That may be a tad unrealistic, but we'll see.

Hi DeeSharee! No, I've not ever tried spinning or the couch to 5K. I did try training myself (7 yrs ago) to enter and run 5Ks. Besides the practice on my own, I did four events. I was aiming for five 5Ks that year because I was 50. However, my left polio foot/ankle decided that I wasn't going to do much more than hobble during the 4th event, so I never get did get to the 5th 5K. I was truly sad because I found out that I LOVED doing 5Ks! There's a contagiousness in the crowd that really made me feel I was a part of something.

Hi Christine! Thanks for the encouragement about my upcoming TOPS presentation. When we were still LIVING here in Kansas City; i.e., DH hadn't retired yet... I had the opportunity to give lots of presentations. I loved it! Now the opportunities come far and few between. I even would be invited to other TOPS groups to present. Really and truly, I find it fun to share positive health information! Question regarding your evening self-sabotage: Would those protein bars be of any help to you? The ones I have do taste like candy bars, and I have been having one of those in the evening. Or I have a diet Swiss Miss hot chocolate. (Thanks to Colleen for that tip!)

Hi Jennifer! I know, right?! That "why" article did make me look at cleaning my kitchen in a different light too! I was dragging my feet and muttering about it, when I suddenly remembered that I was supposed to concentrate on WHY I wanted a clean kitchen---not on what I didn't want to do. That thought change really did help! Oh guess what?! I did the chanting thing too! How funny! Whatever it takes to change our negative thinking, I guess!

Hi Denise! It's so great to have you back posting on a more regular basis! See? It appears unanimous... we ALL want to see pictures of your bedroom once you finish! LOL

Hi Colleen! Just so you don't feel left out, girlfriend! We know you're busy with your writing and can't break your concentration. Just know that we're all thinking of you!

Okay, here's my update:
I only lost 2 oz for the past week. (My weigh-ins are on Thursdays.) However, I didn't WORK for that loss with lack of regular exercise and my several cheats within a few days. So I was SHOCKED to even have a 2 oz loss instead of a 2 lb gain. Now I'm back on track mentally and fitness-wise. I'm much happier now; no negative self-talk going on.

My two granddaughters are coming for the weekend... picking them up this evening and taking them back late on Sunday. DH will spoil the heck out of them by taking them to their favorite restaurants and any treat place they mention. (He can't deny them ANYTHING.) Heck, they're only 7 and 9 yrs old. I hadn't even hardly BEEN in a restaurant until I was almost out of high school, much less had a favorite! But I digress...

Let's all stick with it, girls!
Keep on keeping on!

good friday morning all !

Hey Dee I too used to do Jazzercise years ago when I lived in Nashville and had young Knees and I JUST LOVED it !! Absolutely loved it.... when I moved back to KY there wasn't one anywhere close to me ! Boo !!

Denise I am sure you will thrilled with your bedroom results when done. thanks for the support on winter eating. I am going to make my wonderful fat free soup that I live on in the winter this week called refried bean soup and it always gets me going good ! I know all the ingredients are included in our vegetables for TSD ! Hey girl ..... a big shout out for getting into those smaller pants !! WOO HOO.... doing the HaPpY DaNcE for you ````` !

Jennifer I too need to clean my cabinets out and throw out lots of old stuff from the kitchen. Also I have read and read about spaghetti squash and NEVER made it.... do you cover with sauce or how do you eat it ?

colleen - how's the writing going ??

Susy - I loved loved the why article and thanks so much for sharing !! I printed it off so I can re read and remind myself to do this !!

well I was up a half a pound this week and am happy with that since I got into cookies, pizza, and potato chips. I was so so bad and ate things I have not eaten in a long time !! silly me I guess since I skipped the halloween candy I thought I had permission to do this....... who knows ??? Old habits die hard and I am slowly trying to rewrite How I think and How I stop so I am proud of myself for stopping and have to remind myself that this is years and years of bad habits that I have worked 18 months on now and I have used food to soothe and comfort myself for years so this may never NOT be a struggle !! But I will continue and I will NOT give up because I am DONE being this weight !!

Keep on keeping on
Christine

Hi Denise!

I heard Spinning hurts, but everyone I asked said you get used to it, because it can transform your body. I will let you know what I think of it! I used to do Jazzercise and loved it. Sometimes they have free classes - you can go to jazzercise.com and see what the current special offers are!

Have a great day, Dee

Susy – my room better rock with all the work I’m doing with it! LOL

Deesharee – Welcome to the board!!! Never done spinning or couch to 5K. Seems like spinning would hurt your butt cheeks…lol And I’ve ridden a bike and they are not the most comfortable things to ride so don’t think I’d care for spinning. Let me know how you like it. You shouldn’t be scared, everyone is there for the same reason. I keep driving past this Jazzercise class every morning and I'm thinking about going one day.

Christine – I think I’m slipping at times because of the weather. But they say when winter rolls around most want to eat comfort food so that may be the reason why. Guess we need to go out and find healthy comfort food! emoticon

DietRockstar – I will definitely post pictures once I finish. I love spaghetti squash and it’s so easy to make! And congrats on your weight loss so far!!!

Denise, Your decorating sounds awesome! I would love to see photos when you are finished!

Suzy, I read that blog about the "Why of doing things". It was interesting because I just got done doing a good cleaning of my kitchen and the whole time I was asking myself why. My answer was a resounding because "I must hate myself" over and over again. I need to turn on some tunes and turn off my brain. I will be happy to have a super place to cook later. Maybe I need to start chanting that. I'm pretty sure I should do that.

Ok, I am back from the store and now have a clean kitchen to cook food for the next few days. Chicken and spaghetti squash. Also zucchini. So happy to buy food that is good for me and not to entertain me. That was expensive!!

Thank you all for so much to think about!

Susy - two great articles.. Thanks... Yikes! I was being brainwashed last night! Lol!

No workout today... But tomorrow is Zumba toning. I just love Zumba... I have been dancing since I was 4 years old. I am trying to learn how to run, with the couch to 5k. But I would rather Zumba or dance. I am trying to be more open to new things. So I decided next week to really focus and be open and not so afraid. Next Thursday, I am going to try Spinning at my gym. I'm scared to death, but I was told that the room is dark and there's music, so I'll give it a try.

Has anyone done spinning or couch to 5k?

Thanks for the warm welcome - skinniesomeday and Susy...

A hearty hello to Denise, Colleen and Jennifer too! I want to be an active member of the board!

Dang!!! Been missing from the board a few days! I'm still working my program! I've been a decorating fiend!

I'm almost finished with my curtains. Just need to sew up the ties and it's done. They are pinned and ready for sewing. Decided to start on my duvet cover. I just need to find something for the back of it which doesn't seem easy to do! And of course I still need to buy the zipper for it! But at least the front is done. I put up my mirror and I'm hoping to get a nightstand really soon! lol I seen one on craigslist that I really like just need a response from the seller. I also ordered some wall sconces to go on either side of the picture I ordered. All will go over my bed. Dang! I am a crazed woman on a mission!

I've been slipping up a bit on the diet and I must get back on it! I tried on two pair of pants that I could not fit last month and happy to say I wore one pair today! So the diet is definitely working so I'm hell bent on staying with the program.

Hope all is well with everyone!!!

Congrats Jennifer on getting the information you need to know what affects you--and especially for knowing to ask yourself 'why' questions before eating. That's pretty powerful!

Here's one of my musings:

I used to go visit my mom (in another state) once a year. For the entire visit, we'd sit and watch television in the evening and eat a bowl of ice cream. (I didn't eat ice cream frequently back home.)

When I'd get home from my one or two week visit with her, I NEEDED ice cream! I would always have to wean myself off of it. Sugar feeds an enormous sugar craving! You said it correctly when you mentioned opiate receptors. It certainly felt overpoweringly strong to me. (FYI: I've never done opiates so I'm going to assume it's very, very strong!)

Anyway, on another note--which I hope hasn't become a rambling on my part:
I'm getting a presentation together to share with my TOPS group next week. One of the articles I may be sharing is entitled, "Create the WHY Habit."

If anyone would like to read it, here's the link: www.dumblittleman.com/2013/11/create
-w
hy-habit-to-change-your-behavior.htmR>l?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook

While the focus isn't on why we're choosing to eat something, that particular interpretation could be drawn from it.

But I just love that it causes me to ask myself why I'm really doing the things I'm doing!

Hi Dee! I'm so happy you decided to jump in over here and start posting!

And good for you for getting rid of the last of your Halloween candy!

I think we're pretty susceptible to snacking while watching television. An article I just read states: "the left hemisphere of the brain (which handles logic) goes dormant while watching TV."

If your left hemisphere is not at attention, then our impulse control is weakened.

Here's the article as to why we might be more of a snacker (and eat mindlessly) while watching TV:

Does brain activity while watching TV make us more susceptible to ads?
www.cabletv.com/blog/does-a-decrease
-i
n-brain-activity-while-we-watch-tv-mR>ake-us-more-susceptible-to-advertising/

If we KNOW this about television watching, then maybe we can act to combat it better.

Yikes! I feel like I'm on a soapbox, so I ought to get down now. But it just riles me up that others know the deck is stacked against us--yet we don't even know that it's happening in order to protect ourselves.

Hi everyone,

I too have carb issues. I just decided to get rid of all my leftover Halloween candy because I was watching TV eating those mini bags of peanut m&ms mindlessly and now I'm as high as a kite. UGH. I was doing so well until I got home tonight.

I have carb issues. They do make you feel better. I have fibromyalgia and I noticed that while eating sugar my symptoms would not seem so bad. It turns out that sugar hits the same receptors opiates do. I really have to ask myself am I eating because I am hungry or because I hurt, I am tired, I am upset, etc. I used to just go grab some food!!

I am glad to have the sugar thing somewhat manageable.

I have gone through menapause now and do not MISS the Chocolate cravings ...... drove me to madness many a time .......HEH HEEE ! I hope you can do something about the BC meds and the dr is able to help. I could never take those either.... due to my HBP

I love the color orange Susy and I bet it does brighten up your RV ! how cool ? I agree about color changing your mood ! I too love baskin and robbins and luckily there is not one near me here ! I always go when On vacation! My favorite flavor is pralines and cream and unfortunately Mcdonald's now has a Mcflurry in that flavor which is AWESOME. I had one the other day . BOO ! That was my halloween treat.... I bought NO candy this year.

Fingers crossed, Colleen, for the cost of those bc meds!

Yeah, I discovered that carbs made me feel better too, way back when I was going through a divorce (27 years old). It was winter time, I was newly single, and I noticed that on the winter nights that I cooked spaghetti, I felt so much better!

Sadly, I also recognize that a Baskin Robbins Hot Fudge Sundae does it for me too! Right now our RV is parked just a couple hundred feet from a Baskin Robbins. But since we've been here (five weeks), I've only succumbed once... and that was this past weekend.

See? I think this is why weight loss can be so difficult, as well as complicated! When our hormones and emotions are involved, it's almost like forces are not within our control! I think that's why I like learning as much as I can about being able to control what we can (within reason).

. . . s u s y . . .
P.S. Colleen, I hope you're doing terrific on your writing this month! I'm thinking about 'cha!

I definitely have serotonin and other neurotransmitter issues (such as the fibromyalgia) and I've been self-medicating with carbs most of my life).

It's really difficult to control the carb-cravings when I KNOW they'll make me feel better (in the short run).

I'm finding pms/tom to be my undoing. I can be doing extremely well 27 days of the month, and undo all my progress in 3 days.

I see my doctor next friday, so I'm going to talk to him about changing back to the bc that was most helpful with the hunger. My insurance won't cover it, so I'm hoping it will be affordable.

Hmmm... I've never noticed fajita-stuffed baked potatoes on a Mexican food menu. I'll have to start looking since it sounds tasty!

When we bought our RV, we chose the color scheme that gave us the most light! (Even though the light colored carpet is a PAIN to keep clean.)

Then... since my favorite color is cheerful orange, I have orange accents around my champagne colored living room. (Champagne = light beiges, light tans, etc.)

Voila! I'm surrounded by cheeriness!

One of my habits is to open my blinds/curtains when I first get up in the morning. What's funny is that my little dog (she just turned one yr old yesterday) also loves for me to open the blinds so she can look outside! It's so funny. But anyway, I'm happiest when the sun is out too!

Although I -do- have a string of orange lights hung up (that one of my girlfriends gave me). I definitely turn them on on dreary days and then in the evenings. It just sparks up my mood!

I call this self-preservation. emoticon

Thanks Christine! Persistence not perfection. Persistence not perfection. Persistence not perfection. I need to copy that 100 times on the blackboard! LOL

And I love the Leslie Sansone quote: "There is no perfect life; you must make smart choices." Ain't that the truth!

Oh! In Dr. A's book, I do see where a plain baked potato is acceptable, and he said you could get an entree that would go well with a baked potato and top your potato with the entree.

I may have already shared this, but I went to a restaurant with two friends, and while they ate, I ordered a baked potato and a side of broccoli. My broccoli went on top of the potato. The good thing about the potato is: It increases one's serotonin levels in the brain! The feel-good chemical!

In fact, there's a book out there called, Potatoes Not Prozac.
www.amazon.com/Potatoes-Not-Prozac-N
at
ural-Seven-Step-ebook/dp/B0061OQLKW/R>ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1383759752&sr
=8
-2&keywords=Potatoes+prozac

The author "believes that some people are born "sugar-sensitive," which means they don't have enough serotonin or beta-endorphin in their brains. Serotonin and beta-endorphin make us feel secure, stable, confident, cheerful. If you have low levels of these chemicals, you are likely to feel badly."

This kind of knowledge sure gives me HOPE!

Regarding this time change: It messes up everyone's routine! Bleah!

Susy just remember that Perfection does not do it ...... Persistence will !! I too got off track this weekend . I went out to eat a couple of times and then I was cold for a few days. For some reason the cold really messes with me. I want to eat and sit with a blanket !

I have also struggled with exercise this week. I only did it four days and thats VERY unusual for me. I was tired after the time change...... doesn't make sense since I got an extra hour of sleep.......mmmmm....... but anyways I was so tired and sleepy that I went back to bed one morning after being up for 2 or 3 hours...... I NEVER do that.... hence no exercise that day !
I did feel better after that at least.

Oh well today's quote

There is no perfect life , you must make smart choices

Hope everyone is doing well

Okay, I will spill the beans: I fell off the wagon on Thursday night (party) and both Saturday and Sunday.

Not the entire day of any of the days; I did good the majority of each day. But enough that I won't see a loss on my next weigh in. (I've been watching the scale, so I know this for a fact!)

Friday was a good day. And yesterday, Monday, was back to the plan: both food and exercising!

I'm THRILLED to be back on track!

Hi everyone !

I have been struggling to get back into my groove . Its turned cold here and it makes it hard to go outside and walk ! Last year I was so motivated and excited but this year I am cold !! I may do some Leslie Samsone tapes !!

Colleen - go good to hear from you and YES you sound so busy !! Happy anniversary to you and your husband late and yes I too occasionally treat myself to a good STEAK !! I miss them a lot. I have been doing this diet for over 18 months and I think I am not as strict as I once was but I have NEVER maintained or stayed with anything this long and I am so grateful for that !

Jennifer- So good to hear from you too ! I am glad you are doing well and its wonderful to hear from you !

Todays' quote is a good one

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're
interested in doing something, you do it when it's convenient. When
you're committed to something, you accept no excuses , only results .

I am busy getting down some of my winter clothes and turtlenecks and finding some warm sweatpants to put on !! I hate doing this but it does help to organize and sort through things
that I need to give away or discard. I keep Way way way TOO much stuff !!

Hope everyone is keepin on keepin on

I just wanted to drop in and say hi!

I am happy to be on a program that I can follow! It makes me feel so much more in control of what size clothes I will be wearing and how my health can keep improving!

I feel like I can live this way. I'm still on a diet and it has been over 3 months and I am not living to cheat.

What a miracle!!

I'm baaaaaack. Hi gals.

Sorry for going AWOL on you guys.

The weather changes have been kicking my butt with fibro and arthritis flares. Right now I'm in bed, under the electric blanket, waiting for my joints to warm up and pain meds to kick in.

If it weren't for our friends and family here in the midwest, we'd move somewhere with warmer and more stable weather.

November is National Novel Writing Month, and my goal for NaNoWriMo is to finish and polish my YA werewolf novel (sort of like Twilight, but less emo and no one sparkles).

So, if I'm successful, I won't be on the weight loss boards quite as much this month.

I'll still be reading and posting, but my posts may be a little shorter and if I seem preoccupied, it will be because I am.

Yesterday was our wedding anniversary, but we haven't celebrated yet. We usually stay in or go out for a nice dinner, and I don't want to give that up. I'm trying to decide the best option for my weight without sacrificing the special occasion vibe.

I really would like seafood or steak with a nice salad bar salad, but that pretty much leaves only the mega buffets.

Nice restaurants with good food and SMALL salad bars are becoming an endangered species.

If we stay in, hubby will cook for us. Hubby isn't really a better cook than I am. I'm just better at home-style cooking and hubby is better at grilling and restaurant-style dishes.

The only overlap in our skills are soups and asian food.

Although, even those we do differently. For me, soups, stir fries, and fried rice are ways to use up leftovers. For hubby, everything is precise and replicable, from scratch. His recipes are in his head and he may adjust the ingredients, but he ends up with a dish he can duplicate in the future.

I tend to be more of a "use whatever's on hand" kind of cook, so even I can't duplicate my own dishes exactly.

Christine, hi there girl!

This has to be quick since I need to go get ready for my halloween party tonight! (I went to one this past Saturday, and there's one tonight, where my son's blues band plays. So... lots of dancing!)

Regarding challenges:
Why don't you post a challenge... and just see who feels they can participate? I know that I'm on several teams with ongoing challenges---and I've tried to support as many of them as I can, but it just really depends on what the parameters are going to be before I know if I will commit or not.

Bottom Line: I LOVE THAT YOU'RE AN ACTIVE TEAM LEADER FOR THIS TEAM!!!
Thank you!

Denise when you say a clean challenge are talking about unprocessed clean foods or are you talking about a detox thing ? I had to do that on one team I was on and did not like it !

I am thinking about creating or doing a challenge for us on here and was wondering if anyone would be interested ?? There are so few us on here but we could maybe get some support or accountability at least ? Nothing hard maybe just report on things we should already be doing ??

susy I love your witch outfit! I just love your smile , it truly is contagious even if only in pictures !!

emoticon DEE !!

It storming here and turning off bad weahter so I will curl up on couch with a blankie since My TOPS meeting got cancelled !

Oh Dee! I think one VERY helpful thing to do would be to stay strong with this group! And read the book! I just finished reading the book and kept finding helpful things throughout. Plus, I'm a book highlighter, so that I can easily go back and find things that I thought were helpful tips.

So... one thing I'd suggest specifically is to go back to the start of this thread and read through it. It won't take too long and you'll pick up some tips, as well as start to get to know us!

But that means: We want to get to know you too! LOL

Hi, I'm new... I'm Dee!

I bought the book a while back and ready to give this a try!

Any helpful hints would be appreciated. I love to share and support as well!

Happy Halloween...

I wanted to do everything else but workout tonight! lol But I finally bit the bullet and did it. So glad it's ova!!! :-) I may just get in to bed at a decent hour tonight.

Next week I'll be doing a clean challenge for 5 days straight! Ugh! I must be crazy but I can say that I at least tried it once. :-) It of course will still be based on the principles of the Simple Diet but nothing processed. I find that I like the Simple Diet and don't think I'll give it up any time soon. It is so easy as long as it's followed.

Susy - if I can remember to even take a picture, I will post me and Victor in our costumes! lol We seem to all ways forget about taking pictures.
