Huntress that sounds great and it's wise to wait a week or so when switching up like that. I do this anyway so it might be helpful to you, I try not to shock my muscles/body with an instant change but a gradual one. I think you are doing well and are preparing yourself through your daily increase in exercise. I am proud of you!!

I took it easy with my exercise tonight. Did 33 minutes on the treadmill then sat in the hot tub for 20 minutes then 20 minutes of swimming laps.

Tomorrow I will do at least 1.5 miles on the treadmill & 5 miles on the elliptical.

Talked to my friend tonight and he is getting my strength training plan together we decided that between my schedule and his that we will wait a couple more week before beginning.

Way to go ladies! Great goals!
Currently my goal is to do strength training 3X week (3 sets of 15 reps with 5 lb weights) and stretch daily.
For aerobics, I am either line dancing at least one hour or doing yardwork for at least one hour daily at minimum....... better if do both in one day or for longer time period.
There....I've gone public!

Wow, Huntress a 5k, you go girl. Did you ever think you'd be saying those words or doing a 5k?

I know you can do it. I am rooting for you. I plan to run a half marathon in October and start training later this month.

Thanks ladies. I really feel so much better after exercising. It is a rather foreign thing for me to experience.

I have decided that I will be doing a 5k next month so I will be starting to push for more distance in my walks on the treadmill. Today I did 1.5 miles in 30 minutes then the 5 minute cool down. I want to be doing 2 miles a day in a week time. I love the programs on the treadmill at the gym as it allows me to set how many miles I wish to do so it will make it easier to achieve this goal.

After the treadmill I did 40 minutes on the elliptical (9 miles) plus the 4 minute cool down.

Strength training will begin this week if I can get in contact with the gentleman who is going to help me with a good plan of attack.

I joke often that I am doing daily torture sessions at the gym but I really do enjoy my time there.

Been ramping up my exercise. Did 48 minutes on the seated elliptical tonight roughly about 10 miles. I know that I pushed myself tonight but I needed to do that.

Day 4 at the gym ... I did 24 minutes on the treadmill with a random program level 6 (I think) and 3.3-3.5 mph. I am trying to increase my speed and will also be increasing my time. Then I did 24 minutes on the seated elliptical adding muscle endurance (wow that will knock you on your tushie)

Well I continue on my quest to make exercise a habit. I was amazed at how fast my workout went today. Before I knew it I was nearly done with my treadmill. It sure helps to have someone there with me. I did 28 minutes on the treadmill & 20 minutes on the NuStep.

Great job! Good you can do an aerobic exercise that works around the problem point and does not cause additional pain. There are all kinds of options out there for getting exercise.
A person should be able to find something that they enjoy and works for them.

Yes, maybe someone local could help you with strength training regimen. Best to be careful, start slow, be patient, and build up. Got to be careful that you gear training to your weakest part and don't let your stronger part force your weaker part to try to do something it can't handle yet. Of course there are books and the SD has a plan. What about a consultation with a trainer at the facility where you are doing your elliptical or swimming? Or taking out some videos from the local library? Even if you don't actually do them, you could get ideas.

My Dr said that with my knees (possible osteo arthritis) and already having RA that the bike was the worst exercise for me. He said that the elliptical would be better but the standard one still puts too much pressure on my knees (or I am just elliptical challenged :) )

The seated elliptical really is awesome. Google Octane Fitness equipment and you can see a video of the seated elliptical.

I went back to the club tonight and attempted a 10k on the seated elliptical. I made it 28 minutes and nearly 4 miles so sometime next week I should be able to do the full 10k.

I need to find someone to help me with adding in strength training. I think I will talk to a guy from church who has been working out for some time now and is looking great see if he can steer me in the right direction.

Great work!!

Just for my curiosity....what was the problem with recumbent bike? Maybe you shared that elsewhere and I missed it.

We will look forward to your posts about your exercise plan! You are off to a good start.
One thing about exercise..........it eventually does become a habit because it becomes addictive.........a positive addiction that your body adapts to, needs, misses, and eventually just has to have! So that is helpful in making it habitual.

Thanks for starting this thread. Will be helpful to all of us.

Okay after being told by my doctor that I could no longer use my exercise bike I have joined the local fitness center along with a friend. She will go with me every M-W-F but I will be exercising additional days as well as my goal is 45 minutes 5x a week.

In my blog I mentioned a seated elliptical that I found at the gym it is the Octane Fitness xr6000 (or something like that) and it is so easy on the knees. I did 23 minutes on it this morning but will be bumping that up to 30 soon. I also did 25 minutes on the treadmill with a 2.5 - 3.0 incline at 3mph. I will most likely go for a swim sometime this week just have not decided when.

I expect to tackle exercise with the same determination I tackled TSD and make it a habit.

Hope you are all doing well with your chosen exercise as well.
