GOLFCHICK2-0. Agreed...I think he could do just about anything, (with a big......) HOWEVER!! He does need some experience behind him and bench coach or pitching coach would be perfect. I just don't want to see him disappear into a pile of paper work!!

I love Tek. But I'd like to bring this one up. He's been a player, and a hell of a player, for a long time. He's held a positon of honor and pride in being the Captain. He did that incredibly well.
He has never been a manager, he has never been a 'coach'. I'm thinking if we want him to be successful and not be a one year deal, he needs to start small. Get a couple years under his belt as Bench Coach, maybe Pitching or Bullpen.
I think that there is a level of knowledge that can only be learned by doing and going straight to Manager may not be be good for either Tek or the Sox..

When I mentioned this to my kids, they and their spouses were in agreement and would get on the "bandwagon" if one got started. We moved away from MA 17 years ago and they still go back to see the Sox play whenever they can.

Adding Tek would be great... after this year spent with Valentine, the team is not the only thing that needs rebuilding... the fan base and enthusiasm for the team does - and Tek would go a long way for that.

Wonder how many emails, etc TPTB are getting from Red Sox Nation and, thinking about how many people will decide not to buy seats for next season if they feel that they're let down by their choice. Imagine how many fans would flock to see Tek in that spot. Well, there's always 2014!!

Too bad we can't add our two cents to the decision....I think he'd be good for the team, managerial skills or not!!!

I love Tek and would love to see him as a manager for the Red Sox, but I agree with Patrick. I would be very suprised if they actually selected him given his lack of "formal" management experience. As we saw this year, experience is not always the key to a winning season.

The argument will be that he has no managing experience, which I personally disagree with, since he pretty much was the on-field manager during his career as a catcher and the team captain. Robin Ventura was hired last season as the manager of the White Sox and had no managerial experience and yet led his team to a 85-77 record in what was considered a "rebuilding" year for them.
I'd love to see them take a risk and name 'Tek as the manager. I doubt seriously it could be any worse than last season....

What about it?? Do you think he would make a good manager?? He certainly has more knowledge of this team than anyone else can think of other than Terry!!
