Mercifully the season for the Sox ends tonight. At least our boys made it a little interesting last night, but as has been the case for most of this season, it ended in disappointment!

Hopefully, starting tomorrow, this will be like Star Wars IV: "A New Hope"!

Not sure if anyone watched the Scott Brown Elizabeth Warren debate last night. The last question David Gregory asked of the candidates was should Bobby Valentine be fired.

I like that Tek is back, but I don't really think he's ready to manage a major league team.. By the same token, we still keep hearing about Farrell, and I'm not very impressed with his managerial stint in Toronto. Would love to have him back as pitching coach though....

I am so disgusted by this team at this point. They aren't even a speed bump at these teams vy for the playoffs.. Think of how last year, Baltimore, with nothing at stake, played their hearts out against the Sox in that last series. This team has no heart, no soul. And last night, was it one of their no-name, up for a cup of coffee pitchers who gave up NINE runs to the Yanks in one inning? NOOOOO, it was Clay freakin' Buchholz, one of their alleged studs. Just awful..

I am equally thrilled to see Tek back in the Red Sox organization. Hoping he has some positive influence.

Interesting thought, but I don't think the owners will do it. However he sure has the respect of the pitchers. I'm just glad he'll be back with the Red Sox.

EWL978, I was very pleased to see 'Tek get a job in the front office. Maybe a candidate for the soon-to-be open managerial job? Could be....

I really, REALLY hate to say this, but all of a sudden I've realized that I JUST DON'T CARE ANYMORE!!! All year the undercurrent has been so thick that you could cut it with a knife. I realize that the injuries were enormous and no one could say that was expected...however, there was no hitting...even when a pitcher was having a fairly good game, the runs on the other team would pile up. And when a pitcher was lousy, didn't matter... how do you expect players to react when there's no team spirit. I pity guys like Pedroia. I feel sad for Clay B and some of the other young pitchers...what's the sense of taking a chance on hurting your arm when the team can't give you a couple of runs to put a game away.

Valentine might have been a bad fit, but lots of the "situation" comes from the fact that we fans in Boston are more knowledgeable in many cities and the sports reporters like to rile the fans up.

I was very happy to hear that Jason V has a new job...I want to see what becomes with that. Maybe he can provide a "push" or at least some incentive??

Oh, I can't deny....I LOVE THIS TEAM!!! emoticon

I definitely think Valentine should be sacked, and I think Cherington should go, too. I don't think Ben has the stuff to do this job. I never thought Valentine was a good idea for this team. Never. I don't know what I think should happen next, but ownership needs to get on the ball and make it look like they care about the future of the team.

That's the $64 question...assuming Cherrington is sacked, do you bring in the next "Theo" (younger and full of energy) or go with an experienced GM? Let the speculation begin!

Oh hell yes. Mind you he also inherited the mess that was last years blow out. And the problems that came with it. As much as I love Francona... Tito let that happen and left it behind.

I think Valentine was never meant to be more than a placeholder for the next best thing. He was meant to be a scapegoat and filled that spot with wild abandon. Here's the problem... Who takes over??

I totally agree. Yes and yes. That said I do feel some sympathy for both Cherrington and Valentine since I don't think either got the support they deserved from Lucchino or the other owners. I just wish they would do what they are going to do sooner than later, but I know it is not that easy.

Yes and yes, and agree with you 100% on your comments. Not sure about Cherrington yet, but I guess if I was ownership, I'd want to start 2013 with a clean slate, and for me that means Ben goes....

I certainly think the answer to the first is yes, but I do kind of feel for the guy. He was really placed in a no win situation by the upper management of this time, but at the same time, he contributed to his own demise by not taking the pulse of the team before he did and said certain things. I point to the Youkilis statement early in the year. Let's face it, whether you liked him or not, you could NEVER, ever question his heart. And there was Bobby V doing just that. I honestly think he lost the team right then and there, and never got them back.

The second question, will he be fired? I say yes, within a day or two of the end of the season. The only question that remains to be seen is if he pulls a nutty at some point before it happens, or if he waits until after it happens.

What does everyone else think??
