Tina, your type too much, me have headache. Agree on Pap, his performance last night might have saved the season, ditto Els.

Good Morning!

I have read this entire thread, and can't remember who said what, but I'll comment (of course I'll comment, lol!!). I'm not impressed with the pitchers at all, and believe Curt Young has to at least be a little responsible for that. Not sure if a year under his belt getting to know the pitchers would make him better next year or not.

Fire Tito?? Absurd. I think Peter Gammons sometimes is out of his mind, and this is one of those times. If anyone in management is thinking that firing Tito is going to make this team better, they are all out of their minds. And I'll pitch in for that muzzle for McCarver, too! Not that I always agree with his moves, but this guy has done a marvelous job of making the diverse personalities in that locker room sound like a symphony pretty much every season he's been here. You cannot fire him after one colossol failure, especially when you are talking about the injuries to the pitching staff we saw this year.

Theo?? I think he bears more responsibility for this year than Tito. He got complacent at the trading deadlines because of the big lead, even though there were warning signs that the injuries were going to have an impact, and considering the fact that he KNEW before anyone that Buccholz had broken bones in his back, he needed to do more than bring in an injured Bedard. And he's made some very bad moves with free agents. I think John Lackey was the worst move of them all. His ornery character cannot play well in that clubhouse, especially with the pressure on. Listen, I think Theo has done good work, but he cannot escape responsibility for what has happened this year.

The players..hmmm. I didn't see Jacoby's home run last night, as I had given up too. But I did see the replay. This man had just breathed a lot of life into a team that hadn't sniffed a win in what, 6 or 7 games? Have you EVER seen a team with less life after such a big play?? There is something wrong with this team, I think they have no leaders and no heart. They need someone to enforce the rule that you need to keep your heads out of your butts when you are playing (did you hear that Joey Gathright, whose only purpose on this team is to be a baserunner and yet you get yourself picked off???) Youk is hurt, and I don't view him as a leader as much with his mouth as by example. Pedroia, is, I think, another lead by example guy. Who is the Kevin Millar of this bunch? Who is the guy who keeps them loose but focused? I'll tell you something else I saw last night that I liked a lot: Jonathan Papelbon. I loved his demeanor last night, not sure I've ever seen him so business like. I know how he usually goes out there and glares in for the sign and all that, but honestly I always feel like so much of that is put on. But it was definitely not put on last night. He became a leader last night, lets see if the boys have enough balls to follow.

Beckett tonight, should be a W.. Bedard tomorrow, and didn't I hear Buccholz is expected to be on the mound sometime before the season ends? Maybe he comes in for Bedard before Aceves. And Lester on Wednesday. Time to put on the big boy pants, Jon. I love you and admire for all you have come through and accomplished, but your team needs you to be the man on Wednesday...

Maybe last night is the turning point they need. I'm not going to predict that, because, frankly, I have no idea what they are going to do. Heck, I'm not even sure I'll be able to bring myself to watch!!

And if Theo doesn't find a way to sign Jacoby Ellsbury for a long time, he needs to be fired, because this kid IS that good and is that much of a game changer.

It's not a diet, it's not exercise, it's a way of life. Period.

I made it to the 13th inning when my eyes said "enough"! Happy to see they won it in the 14th! Much more spirited performance in the nightcap. They need to play this way for the next 3 games in Baltimore.

Ok I think someone needs to rethink their slogan/mission statement for next season. "We Won't Rest" Looks like they all need rest to me!

I won't be watching the last game, maybe that will be the lucky charm they need. *rolls eyes*

Wake gave up 5 (4 earned) and is out after 4. 5-2 Yanks in 6th. Rays up 4-2 in the 5th.

Our starters are infected with some type of virus. Lester is now infected (8 runs in 2.2 innings). The end is near.

We are now a game and a half ahead of the Rays and I don't have a good feeling about the rest of the season at all. I'm going to be watching more of the Patriots than the Sox today.

Saturday did not go well with Lester on the mound, so as much as I want to be optimistic, I sense a bloodbath today with Wakefield and Lackey on deck to pitch. Not much more to say, except that I truly hope I am wrong and they pitch the games of their lives.

I just head the talk about letting Tito go last night. (I'm thinking of buying a muzzle for Tim McCarver, btw, if anyone wants to go in with me on that!)

I agree with so many others here. YOUNG? Yeah. Pitching has not been what it should have been and the comments in the spring that he brings pitchers along more slowly in the spring worried me, especially seeing the results!

But TITO? C'mon now.

It really does seem that Gonzolez came in with both feet, CRYS1120, Maybe it was hard on Crawford to go from being top Ray to just one of the Sox? Maybe he had problems with not being the big star bought? But he certainly hasn't performed like we all hoped he might.

I'm pretty steamed at Mike Shannon who had the GALL to say in a Cards broadcast that becuase the Sox were 6 games up in the Wild Card they were a shoe-in. BITE THY TONGUE, Mike!

I would expect it to be Young as well, not Tito he is only working with what he has been given, I know he has made some mistakes but who hasn't?

I have never understood the Crawford deal?! He hasn't produced like they said he would, nothing like Gonzalez. Gonzalez in my opinion is one of the best baseball players in the show today.

Theo commented today that there is no "disconnect" with Tito today. In other words, he has Tito's back. If Francona is fired, it will be because Ownership wants him gone. Three weeks ago this conversation would be absurd! If they make the playoffs, they have as good as chance as anyone to get to the WS. Their lineup scores more runs than any other team in baseball, and they have two starters that could get them there.

The worst move the Sox could make would be to let go of Tito. Hopefully the ownership would step in before something that absurd would occur.

I agree on all of the above. However, my blame pie goes as follows:

1. Players. 60%. Have have the players, whom have melted down under pressure.
2. Theo 30%. He signed the above, including Lackey, Crawford and Bedard (knowing he has had injury issues, including this year). Lackey was the "best available pitcher" and paid him ace money when he clearly was no ace when they signed him. Like Dice-K (another bust), that left them no room to go after a real ace like Cliff Lee. I never got the Crawford signing. He is not an on base guy with consistent pop, and this is a "move the line" on base offence that likes power from the outfield. He also can cover a ton of ground and he is playing left field at Fenway? He also isn't a smart defensive player who often doesn't hit the cut off man. He is also taking a ton of money that could have been freed up for an ace.
3. Tito. He's made some mistakes but what Manager doesn't over 162 games?

I was listening to Peter Gammons, who is close to Theo, say that Tito's job could be in jopordy because there is a "disconnect" with Theo. That is absurd. If anyone's job should be in jebordy it should be Theo's. With his payroll...it's like Cashman and the Yanks, they should win every year.

One other person I suspect could be at risk at the end of the season (assuming the Sox do not make the playoffs): Pitching Coach Curt Young.

I think it's pretty much all of the above. Theo could certainly have done more to shore up the team, Tito is incredably patient with pitchers and let's them stay in longer than I think is often wise. Finally the team seems to have lost the spark they had earlier in the season. It has gotten to the point that it is painful to watch them play.

I'm a big believer of the adage "You win as a team, you lose as a team". However, I really do think Theo is the primary culprit. Plenty of opportunities to strengthen the team at the trading deadline (esp pitching) and outside of Bedard, he did pretty much nothing!

Just my two cents.....

The Sox started 2-10. They are now 5-16 in September. That is a combined 7-26 (.212 winning percentage). The rest of the season they are 81-42 (.659 winning percentage).

A . .659 winning percentage over 162 games is 107 wins!

What is wrong with this team? How do you have a team so good for most of the season be begging the Yanks to beat the Rays to make the playoffs? I don't get it.

Is it Theo, Tito, the players, all the above?

I'm getting seriously bummed out about this situation.
