I was peeking in all day at work on ESPN Gamecast through 7. They were in control and the bullpen coming into clinch it, so I tuned out...glad I did. I think the bullpen will be ok if they get to the playoffs. They need a couple from the Rays, 2 out of 3 from the Birds and they should get in with a couple days to spare (rest for all, and line up the starting pitching).

Opps, Rays 1-0 in the 2nd.

I don't know where my head was. At 3:30pm I remembered and turned on the game. That was a big mistake. What is with Bard of late? It's not good.

Hey folks..I hate to burst bubbles, but the game is this afternoon and once again Daniel Bard imploded against the Jays, giving up a 2 run lead in the top of the 8th inning and putting the Sox in a hole 5-4. Another head case to try to straighten out in the next 2 weeks.. Bottom of the 9th about to start now..

Congratulations to Wake! I was thrilled that the offense was able to put up enough runs to support him.

Can't wait for another win tonight and Yankee loss!

Tina I agree on Jacoby. I had forgotten he was a Boras client. He is looking so good. It was also nice to see Padroa come back last night. I hope this is what breaks the downward spiral of destruction. So I'm actually looking forward to tonight.

If anyone could get me involved in a Red Sox conversation, Rick and DC and Sophie can! Yay for Wake! It has been as long as it seems for him!

The sad thing about Lackey is that he is healthy..I think they keep hoping he's gonna get his head straight and let's face it, if he does, he's the logical # 3 for the playofffs, assuming Beckett is okay and Lester gets his Mojo back. But if Buccholz comes back, all accounts are that he's going to be in the bullpen for the rest of this year, maybe that opens the door for Aceves to start?

I think it's kind of late to be trying to convert him, but they might have to if Bedard doesn't come through and Lackey continues to lack..

Can I bring something else up? HOW ABOUT JACOBY??? Is this kid not fabulous?? I'm afraid he's gonna go to free agency, though, as we never seem to do well with Boras clients who are worth signing (i.e. Damon) and only get to sign Boras clients who aren't worth signing (Drew, Dice K). The only exception I can think of to that is Varitek in 2004, but that's because he knew he wanted to be back.. Oh well, I'm enjoying him while we do have him!!

11-5 after 7 and half (looking good for Wake and Red Sox Nation). O's 4-2 over Rays after 8.

Gagne, what a disaster. They didn't commit 5 years and a billion dollars to him, though. And he was only backup in the pen to Pap.

OK Rick you had to bring up Dice-K. How about Gagney? Actually when I see Lackey I sometimes remember Gagney. Remember him? I think Wake did well after he worked his way out of the first three innings. I just so want him to get 200. I'm glad they have not brought Bard back after the last time he blew it for Wake. Let's just hope we win, he gets it and he can get beyond this.

Hey Chef, I too like Wake a lot, and he hasn't been terrible during this painful march to 200. He should have had it a month ago but they blew some decent Wake outings. However, Tito has to have ice water flowing in his viens to bring him back out for the 4th after he blew two leads in the first two innings while giving up 5 over three innngs. Looks like it is going to work out though, up 10-5 bottom of 7th.

I think Lackey is in year two of a five year deal. He's got to get better, unless he is going to pull a Dice-K on us (remember him?).

Rays 2, O's 2 in the 8th. Go O's!

I so agree. I'm just thankful we have him. He is really good. I'd rather have Aceves starting and Lackey in the bull pen, but I guess they are suffering from all they paid for Lackey. He is in year of a five year contract correct? For old times sake I'm willing to cut Wake some slack and I really like the guy. Also it's not like we have a lot of power in the bull pen for a reliever now in the 6th.

9-2, 2.94 ERA, he's started 4 game this year. What are they waiting for? Through three innings Wake has already given up 5. This is painful. At this point, even if they get a healthy Beckett back, that may not be enough starting pitching to get them to the playoffs.

23-3 3.09 ERA career numbers for 4 years. He can pitch.
