After all the hipe on the news about soda being bad for you I have stopped drinking it and that was hard as I had 6 or more a day.

I stopped drinking diet soda for a year ( it seems to effect my ability to lse weight and keep it off). Then slowly started drinking it again until, once again, I was addicted. Today is day 6 of my second attempt to stop. emoticon

Thank you all for sharing your pop addiction. I too am addicted to pop, either coke or pepsi depending on if I've had too many coke then I switch to pepsi for a flavour change. I always keep a case of cans in my car in a cooler so I've got it whenever I want. I one time did quit cold turkey for a month and was so happy with my effort that I had JUST ONE, well that didn't work out to well, I'm back on the stuff again.

I'm trying to decide if it would be easier to alternate between drinking 1 soda and then 1 glass of water/flavored water and then 1 soda and then 1.5 glasses of water until I am drinking mostly water. Then all water and no soda. Let me know what you think. I am going to start doing that now. Terri emoticon emoticon

I was a glutton for soda. I loved it--- and six cans a day was about my normal consumption.
For two months I have quit the habit. Telling myself that it is BAD for my health is exactly what I did to kick this addiction! I am better off without it. It has no value and can only harm me! Now why would I want to drink something that can harm me? My substitute beverage is water, sometimes flavored with tea or lemon. I hope that I can influence other Sparkers to kick this habit, because there are no good reasons to stay "addicted." Hugs to ya'll !!

Rejoice in each new day; it is a gift!

I drink diet dr pepper all day and night long. I even wake up and drink it. I have switched to caffeine-free after 10am because I have insomnia. I was supposed to quit sodas 3 years ago because my gerd was causing me to aspirate at night. The carbonation as well as the caffeine relaxes the part of the esophagus that keeps stomach juices from going into your lungs. A sane person would have quit sodas 3 years ago. I quit for a few days and then decided one soda a day would be ok. Well, you can guess one turned into two and then three until I was back to my original count. I feel deprived when I don't have one. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Me! I never used to be so addicted to soda but it seems these last few years my soda addiction has drastically increased. I am quitting cold turkey and hopefully I can kick this nasty habit. Sparkling water is a good substitute.

It's been two days without soda and I'm feeling the affects. I drank the soda for the caffeine. I cut the caffeine I find myself very tried. I think I need to pump up the workout. Any suggestions?

the bottom line on sweets and sodas (even diet sodas) is to train yourself away from them and get your tastebuds used to the sweetness of natural fruit. We are so bombarded with the 'sweet tooth' extreme that we can barely recognize a normal level of sweetness.

Aspertame (Aspartamine) was originally designed as a insecticide but ants liked it because it was really sweet. Then the FDA got the bright idea that it was safe for human consumption. They took out the really bad stuff and the left overs became aspertame for artificial sweetners.

I'm a pepsi addict. I've limited myself to 2 cans a day, but sometimes it's 4 cans. I try to counter the soda drinking with two cups of water. To sum it up, I go to the bathroom alot. lol... emoticon . I just read an article on diet soda from webmd. If you are a diet drinking please take not of the Aspartame. Aspartame is 180 times sweeter than sugar, and some animal research has linked consumption of high amounts of the sweetener to brain tumors and lymphoma in rodents. The FDA maintains that the sweetener is safe, but reported side effects include dizziness, headaches, diarrhea, memory loss, and mood changes. Bottom line: Diet soda does you no good, and it might just be doing you wrong. emoticon .

I rarely drink soda, but when I do I make sure it is the natural stuff. Have you tried making your own? All you need is juice from a fruit and some sparkling water. I like to take the juice from an orange, lime, or a lemon and add sparkling water to it.

I switched to diet at first I made faces when I drank it but now I can't tell the difference. Sometimes I make people taste it to make sure it is diet, I drink fountain pop too, I do not like bottled or canned.

That being said, there is way to much sugar, 9 teaspoons per can, that is outrages. You will benefit yourself by learning to drink something that has less or no sugar.

I would suggest you switch to diet soda, if you can't do that then cold turkey. Soda, regular is a horrible addiction and so bad for your health
