1. Stress and Anxiety
Stress is probably the biggest emotional trigger for binge eating. Every time a situation is causing stress, or things are not going as expected, binge eating becomes a way to cope with the problem.
Feeling alone is often a very common trigger for binge eating. When you are feeling lonely, when you are not able to make plans with friends, and why you are by yourself; these are very common factors that will lead to an episode of binge eating.
3. Starving yourself and Feelings of Hunger
When people recognize that they should not be binge eating, they often try starving themselves or cutting back on food in large amounts. When these feelings of hunger and starvation happen, mass amounts of food are consumed to deal with the emotional feelings and the hunger feelings.
4. Low Self-Esteem
This is probably the biggest cause, and trigger, for binge eating. Every time you feel bad about yourself, or every time you are having troubles dealing with friends, family, loved ones, school, work, or a boy or girl friend, your self-esteem could lower. The way binge eaters deal with these problems is by eating large amounts of food.
This is a surprising trigger, but every time you are feeling bored, or do not have anything to do, eating fills that void. I am sure you have all heard of people who eat just because there is nothing else to do. Finding productive activities is an important step in preventing these types of triggers.
When facing periods of anger, either at themselves or others, binge eating can become a way to deal with those issues. Binge eating is often a way to cope with all sorts of unpleasant emotions, and anger is one of those.
