While points north got lots of snow, 2 towns away got 4-6 inches, where we were got 1/2-1 inch on the grass and nothing sticking on the roads. So, no sledding emoticon . We're just too busy and too lazy to drive 20 minutes to find a place to sled.

I hope everyone digs out safely.

Ari, if you didn't get enough snow, you can have some of ours! We have 28", which is more than anyone needs, ever!

I haven't been to TKD since Thursday, because we had a travel ban in place from 4 pm yesterday to 4 pm today, so the school couldn't even open. Of course, my road is still not plowed out - they did a bit Friday night but nothing today - so I still can't go anywhere. With two of us working for two hours, we got maybe 1/3 of the driveway shoveled. It's pretty horrible.

I'm glad S and R had a great class emoticon
I have caught some kind of virus, lost my voice, cough, no fun. It means I will miss out on the friendship training tomorrow that I've looked forward to for weeks. Life goes on of course, I'll be here with chicken noodle soup and tea, hope everyone else has a great weekend!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

Work craziness meant that I couldn't get free for the kids class last night, but DH reported that S and R had a pretty good class.

We are hoping for just enough snow to go sledding this weekend

Good going Ari!
Carolyn, I hope your Sensei recovers quickly. It shows great things to the class that she is still there, thumbs up to her!
We got our butts handed to us last night. Sensei R (head Sensei) had Monday off and must have decided to do twice as much last night. It was all physical, warms ups twice as long, basics twice as fast and the a lot of throws.
Today...I feel a bit sore emoticon

my sensei who's also my main sensei's wife, is now sporting to wrist braces to protect her thumbs. the doctor who she finally saw said it was basically a repetitive movement injury - in other words she didn't let the original injury heal. the braces are pretty nice with a custom made thumb form - but not so good for punching. Fortunately, she mostly teaches bokken and jo.

Good class tonight. Sensei has indeed invited all of the 6th grade and older brown belts to start training with the "adult" class. This is good, because it both adds needed critical mass to the adult class, and because several of these brown belts have been stalled for a while and maybe once they see how adults train, will help the brown belts gain maturity and advance. In fact, one young lady who has been studying karate since she was 5, and dropped out, is giving it another try now. This change has been in the works for a while and we'll see how it works out.

So we worked on some basics, and even got to work partnered. I was working with the big high-school aged green belt boy and we ended up working fast and blocking hard. It felt good to actually be blocking with some force (even if being out of practice, I'm likely to have bruises tomorrow).

My sons have said they want to do a karate demo at the upcoming Variety Show at their school. Now if I can just get them to practice since right now they don't know the 2nd half of their kata independently...

I got a referral to an orthopedist, but because the doctor I was referred to is in surgery on Wednesdays, and that's usually the week day that I have off, I wasn't able to get an appointment until March 14, because I don't want to have to take time off of work for it.

Right now, I'm pretty much just working on the theory that if it doesn't hurt, it's fine, and if I do something and it hurts, I stop doing that and do something else. In a way it's good for me; it's forcing me to learn better form for punching because if I hit with the first two knuckles like I'm supposed to, it doesn't impact the thumb and it's fine. If I don't, then ouch.

I don't think I ended up checking in last week. It was a pretty typical week, although I learned a new step-sparring and two new joint locks, so that was fun... for versions of fun that involve dodging being punched in the face and having your arm twisted. But there's just something really satisfying about 5'5" me taking my 6' instructor down to the mats just by manipulating one of his arms.

Today I have my follow-up appointment about my thumb that I injured back in December. It's not worse, but it's also not any better, so I suspect it's going to result in a referral to a specialist, just to make sure that it's not more serious than it seems.

Made it to class last night, it was fantastic. Sensei Sc taught, he rarely teaches and it's always a treat. Sc, it turned out, was my Kenpo instructors instructor before he came to Shoshin and (not a huge surprise) when he's in charge we work a lot of hand to hand stuff. Its' good to do something different now and then emoticon

It is, but so worth it! I trained in the school we'll be visiting when I lived out in that area. The facility is very impressive and even the worst hard falls are easy to take on the floors (gymnast floors, very heavy padding!).

How's everyone else doing? I have 'regular' class tonight, was thinking of staying home with my youngest daughter after a very busy weekend. On the other hand, I found out the 'X' will be returning to class next month and I want to train as regularly as possible to have maximum confidence when that happens.

The 9th my class will be training our usual, early advanced class followed by 'regular' class that usually wraps up by 1:15pm. At 3:45 we will all be meeting up at the dojo and driving out to our sister class in the valley (a little more than an hour away) for a friendship training, an additional 2.5 hours of training and wrapping up with dinner. I'm excited already emoticon
