CFMOSS, that's normal and perfectly fine. It's good to be frustrated now and then and practice-refine leads to more progress, keep up the good work!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

Great going Alicia! that's wonderful.
We had a great class today, I was frustrated enough to scream and got a great work out! After class I helped my oldest and her new husband move from the room they'd been renting from his uncle to their first apartment. Pretty big deal, and of course, nothing went smoothly. A ended up locking herself in the bathroom of her new apartment sobbing, her husband was pouting along the side of the truck I'd borrowed, my friend with her borrowed truck was just watching the show and my younger daughter was text fighting in the cab.
I walked away, called Sensei and met him for coffee.
In the end, today was very accomplished. Night ladies!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

We had Afska games last night. I got 3 bronze metals. Limbo, situps and something else! can't remember! I was good with that since i was up against some tough black belts. Including the 4th degree that is only about 27! WOW, i found out how out of shape i am in weird ways! LOL! I also had problems with leg and other muscle cramps.

I did not go to class thur night because it was too icy here.

Good practice last night; well more good than frustrating. The past two practices have been frustrating - I want to know and do it all correctly NOW, not have to practice and practice and refine.....Anyway, yesterday I made some progress, had some challenges and I practiced and I practiced and I refined... and took one basic fall which sort of made my shoulder feel a lot better...hmmm. Couple days off. That's good. Have a good one all.

This is mostly because my girls robotics team is going to States competition on Feb9-10th. They have to get together to practice a lot and the team meets 40 minutes away!

I see kids at work that are treated poorly because their care providers (babysitter, tutor, cousin, etc) does not know about their condition and believe it's all behavioral. I haven't seen any of that in martial arts but we don't have kids in our school. We do have a couple of 'delayed' adults that train and they are able to tell us where the limits are so they don't get crossed, both are well loved emoticon
I'm sorry to hear you only get to attend class once a week, hopefully that doesn't continue to long.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I had a boy in my Thur night class and he was there for a couple years and the father has never said what is up with him, but he has some kind of developmental disability. he is easy to work with. On Tue night right now, we have a boy with Autism, that they did not tell us the 1st night. Problem with not knowing with him is that you can not touch him, and he does NOT want to do what you ask him to. he has his own ideas and that is all he wants to do. He is NOT very easy to work with.
my son was diagnosed PDD-NOS a short time ago. this is on the autism spectrum. I tell people what they need to know to help him do his best...but not necessarily his dianosis. He is very easy to work with.

I can't wait to go to class tonight! I miss it when i am only going 1 night a week.

Alicia, I'm glad you found out about the G-tube, even if belatedly. It often takes specifically asking at the beginning of the first class if there is anything medical I should know about your child - even if it delays the start of the first class.

I agree about the need for disclosure, but think that parents often don't say anything because they don't want the kids to be treated any differently. I'm very open about my kids, and find that mostly it gets them more patience rather than discrimination. However, there are several kids where we suspect ADHD or other developmental challenges, where the parents haven't said anything (and in one case in particular - we think the parents are in denial that there is anything more than just being a 6-year old boy going on). But it definitely makes it harder to teach if you don't know.

Alicia, that sounds fun!
I agree about the kiddo too, if they have any medical issues, the parents really need to disclose it at the beginning of the first class. Complications are rare but you still need to be away of them.
We had a great class tonight. After the drama of the weekend I worked through class Monday night and missed it, but tonight made up for it both with fun level, new material and efforts. My body will be sore tomorrow and my spirit feels very accomplished.
Have a great day tomorrow ladies!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

Slow week here. Sorry i have not been around. Busy here too! I have preschool class and my regular Thur night class tomorrow. I hope all goes well again.

Found out that one of my little preschoolers has a g-tube. It will not be a problem, but i wish parents would let us know the 1st class and not the 2nd.

I have worked out yesterday and today. feels so good!!

We have AFSKA(american free spirit karate association) games on Friday night. It is a mini olympics. You compete on silly things like situps, pushups, standing on one foot, limbo, leg lifts and such. I took home 3 medals last year!! It is always fun!!

Sounds great Hanne! I hope it works well, pre-congrats to those about to move up.
CF, it's ok to take a day or so to heal, we all need them.

I took my brother out last night. He's related by adoption, 30 years my senior and usually a real sweet heart. I'd won a gift card for a nice restraint and we were to go there and then see the new Jason Statham movie (I adore Jason Statham). A invited his wife, a women I also adore, at the last minute. My gift card was $50 and I'd told him that, he knows my budget is super tight so I assumed incorrectly that he would cover his wife. With drinks, appetizer, meals and dessert the total was twice the value of the card and I had to cover it and tip. If my check to the dojo goes in before I find something to cover that, it will bounce emoticon
The movie we were supposed to see was moved, the theatre had to close that auditorium and so we bumped to the next. Long story short, I got home 5 hours before I had to leave to get C to school and make my PT and was upset enough about sticker shock from dinner I didn't sleep much in those 5 hours.
So...I will most likely be skipping class tonight myself. As much as I miss class and my class mates when I don't train, I do not feel good at all.
I hope everyone else is having a decent Monday!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

No extra practice for me this weekend which is probably okay - get the wrist bruises healed up and the shoulder feeling better. Certainly was a busy weekend in spite of that - third weekend in a row of hugely busy Sunday - after next week they won't be quite so busy. Today lots of stuff to do. Tomorrow eve back to aikido:)

So we had the first black belt grading of this year. It was great; haven't had any in 18 months but it would have been special in any case as the young man is extremely talented, as well as being an all-around nice guy. I just hope he'll stick around. We've graded quite a few youngsters over the years only to have them disappear from the face of the earth.

Next goal: start working on those yellow belts - we've got about 7 or 8; they are the largest group in our club right now, and they're all at slightly different lvels in their kata. We need to peel the top ones off and grade them to orange, which will help us work more intensely with the weaker ones. My personal goal is to get our remaining two white belts into yellow within the next three months.

Hope everybody is having a great week!

How's everyone's weekend going? I still have not made it to the yoga class I want to try out, it's Sunday mornings and the only beginner yoga class that's scheduled during a time I could make it (if I got my lazy bottom out of bed soon enough).
Class yesterday was fantastic, loads of fun. We did mostly ground work, some fairly complicated techniques and once all the brown belts felt nice and confident, Sensei teamed us with the white/yellow belts. The beginners where told "do not try any techniques, at your level you really don't have any (they have drills like shrimping and thread the needle to get comfortable moving on the ground) your job is to hold on to your brown belt partner and be as obnoxious as possible. You need to be a total pain in the butt, frustrate them!"
They did, most of us. I thought the drill was a lot of fun, and it made it really easy to see what each students natural attributes were. 2 other brown belts got really frustrated.
Have a great weekend ladies!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!
