Class today was amazing, literally and figuratively kick butt kind of training. We had our basics and went into throws, leading to ground work. I was able to work with Sensei St, don't work to much with him but I enjoy when I do. My oldest daughter made it today as well, after class she told me that she went to spend time with me and did not think she'd enjoy it but she'd had a lot of fun. emoticon
Success!

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

Active recovery is my go-to. Light exercise to warm up, lots of stretching, water, protein and potassium rich foods.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I got tired of starting over and working back to where I was, so I have stopped giving up!

What's your favored method for dealing with muscles which have been used and abused? It seems to me that the 2 day point is when mine start squawking at me about sore usage.

Our school used to be solely Hapkido but we have since acquired some instructors who are bring some TKD knowledge and so we actually do a bit of both.

We did a sampler type class last night with weapons. I am not sure how I feel about them yet. I know that I am very new to them and sometimes that is enough for me to think that I don't like them. We have weapons only classes on Saturday but it is really hard for me to get there.

I won't be going to class again until next week so I may have to do some gym time this weekend. I definitely need to get into a yoga class at the gym to really work on flexibility and stretching as much as possible.

I'm going away for the weekend, so I did two classes today to make up for the fact that I'll be missing class on Friday and Saturday. I strained a muscle in my left thigh during the class in the morning, and went to class this evening anyway. Probably wasn't my smartest move, but now I don't have class again until Tuesday so I've got time to recover.

Spin kicks are hard. Some days I feel like I've got them down, and then other days I keep losing track of where I am in space and it just ends up a mess.

We don't really doing throwing in TKD, but we do have to learn how to breakfall for when we do take down techniques for self defense stuff. One of my classmates is so afraid of falling, every time I take her down I'm afraid she's going to get hurt because she tenses up so bad. I'm a little better at going with the flow... but then I've kind of had to learn to be, because my instructor likes to demonstrate on me... without telling me what's happening first. lol

We worked kata last night, focusing on deep stances. Even being able to move, working a deep stance for an hour....ouch! I feel it today emoticon

Our class was really small last night. I was the only brown belt, we had 1 green belt, 2 yellow belts (one that was injured and left 20 minutes into class) and 5 white belts. Sensei R was out, Sensei Sc and Sensei St are out of town and that left only Sensei C so everyone that had a kata got to work kata for an hour while he worked basics with the newbies. The last half hour of class we focused on throws, but most of us where to tired to do great throwing, we all did great falling however emoticon

Yea I am a classic over thinker. I think I need to wait to practice throws after I have already been worn out at practice. That is when I tend to be "too tired" to think.

Last night's class was brutal. It was good but brutal. It was pure kicking drills and my legs felt like rubber bands all night afterwards. Oh I really hope there is little to no kicking involved tonight.

It was an "am I ever going to get this" practice last night - sure indicator of how stressed I am in other parts of life. Understand the fear of being thrown thing - I'm getting scolded for anticipating the fall - of course I don't think I am and when I try to do anything else I don't set up for a fall and then I get yacked out about that. Friday's a new practice - good thing.

Steph, once you've been able to do it a few times the fear lessons. As long as you are not going long periods without practicing taking the throws, you'll do great! Congrats on the spinning kicks, they can be really challenging!

I made it to class last night... finally. I have managed to get a spinning kick. I thought that I would never wrap my head around it. I have been practicing every single thing that I could to manage it. Finally last night I hit a few of them in a row. Wooo hooo! I had to stop and make sure that I really did it right.

Now to conquer my weird fear of being thrown... I know how to fall. I know what not to do. My brain will not shut off long enough for me to just roll with the fall.

Good workout after a very busy weekend - did have a great workout on Saturday afternoon with some of the guys. Last nights and Saturdays really starting to help me pull the pieces of aikido together for testing. Question: my one shoulder has been hurting but more along the front collar bone - anyone experience something like that and advice?

That sounds great!
I skipped class last night. Between shoulder pain, exhaustion, and really needing to spend time with my 15yo, it felt like I would have been shorting myself and her to go. We have class again tomorrow and I've heard their were 3 new students last night so hopefully they'll be back.

I may not be there yet but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

Great class last night with the kids. There was a 6:4 ratio of students to instructors (Sensei, me, Jr. Black belt + Jr. high brown belt). We worked up a fun boxing-like sequence on the big bag, and the class was small enough that all of the instructors got a place in the line to try it.

Hi guys! I posted on the intro thread yesterday. Great to meet some other women who are in to martial arts. I have class tonight but I am not sure if I am going to make it. I am battling an ear infection and sinus infection tonight.

Ugh, I have TKD on Tue and My girls need to go to another town for robotics. It is 40 min away! Yikes! So i am going to be late to class again...and this is the class with 18 new students and many are young, like 5 or so! Not many that are much older than 9-10. I hope i make it ok....Then i have class on Thur for preschool and Thur night for regular class. Thur night class only has 1 new student, but he is very good...catches on fast!!

I still haven't made it to bed yet so I'll get this weeks post going emoticon After spending all weekend last week with M to help her after her shoulder surgery, I had (still have) so much to catch up on! As soon as my brain shuts down I'll head to bed. Tomorrow I am trying something new, new for me anyway. Yoga! My gym has a class and afterwards I'm headed to M's to help with house work she can't do with only one arm. Have a great day ladies!
