For the next few weeks I need to watch what I eat. Digestion problems and a little weight gain the last 6 months need to be addressed. I am also increasing my exercise. So today I started by replacing breakfast with a glass of non fat milk and a protein drink. I ate a small healthy lean lunch and had fruit for snacks. I had a protein drink a small dinner. Tomorrow I will do the same. Saturday I will replace dinner with a protein drink and have one in the evening so that I have sufficient fuel throughout the night.

To allay any fears. My protein drink is full of nutrients and low in calories. I get a nice balance of protein and some carbs to give me energy to start the day!

100 calorie whole grain english muffin with 1 tbs peanut butter and 1 small banana. Love it!

Watch the size on the tortilla and amount of filling or healthy can quickly become unhealthy as portion size is forgotten and calories quickly escollate!

Breakfast burritos are a great 'On the Go' item. Wheat tortillas are more healthy, fill with desired ingredients such as scrambled eggs, chopped mean meats or if desired leave it full veggies. These can be frozen and reheated in a microwave.

Actually polenta is fine for a diabetic in moderation with proper serving size and eaten with other healthy foods like veggies(for fiber) and protein to slow down the absorption of the carbs and prevent sudden rises in the blood glucose. I have had diabetes for almost ten years and grew up in a household with people with diabetes.

Grits are coarsely ground corn, kind of like polenta.

All the other ideas I've come up with are bread based and probably not good for a diabetic. Sorry I can't help more right now.

Kinda of a weird idea off the top of my head.

You can wrap a few spoonfuls of grits (can you tell I'm in the south?) and add chopped bacon and cheese in a whole grain tortilla. Make a few all at once and reheat as needed in the morning. It will definitely stick with you until lunch and isn't too heavy on the sugar. I'll post again after I think about this some more.

So i need a healthy breakfast idea that i can take on the go and includes minimum eggs, no bananas and i don't have to cook or can cook the night before. BTW not sure shakes would work as i am a diabetic on pills and insulin
