When I started at the gym in July I could not reach the pull-bar on the rowing machine.
(my belly was too big to reach that far forwards with my feet in the stirups)

Then after a week or two I could pull the string about 3 times before walking away from the rowing machine.

Now, 3 months later I can do 2000 meters in 13.56 minutes
I wasn't letting that machine get the better of me.

I agree on pants. In 10 months I lost 10 inches off my waist.
Another measurement a basic body fat scale.

Mine went from 52%- 30% in 10 months and has stayed there. You must test in the morning daily for fat to accurately see what your problem foods are from the night before. If I go out 2 times in one day to eat, the next morning it will be as high as 50,and 2 days later back to 30%. Nothing wrong with the scale. If I eat good, it only changes by 2%. It is not as accurate as expensive tests but is accurate when you learn how to use it. It is the % of water and % of muscle on the scale that is not accurate at all. I have had many Dr's advise on this. All muscle is made from water. Whatever % it shows on fat, the remaining is muscle,so 30% fat = 70% muscle. So my muscle mass has gone up 22% in 10 months,very good!!

Your waist to hip ratio. It is more accurate on amount of fat then B.M.I. My B.M.I is 24.3 ,25 is considered high. My waist to hip ratio.which is waist in inches divided by hip in inches is 76 and .75-80 is considered good. Mine is close to excellent which is .74,almost there. Therefore based on both I do not have a lot of fat even though I have a large waist. I have lost 10 inches off my waist and about 3 inches off my hips last year,so I am now pear shaped,before had no shape, straight up & down.The difference between my waist & hips is hips are 10 inches bigger now..My fat % on my scale was 52% a year a go and is now 28-30%,so it all makes sense now that I lost all my weight in the right place.Fat % on a scale is another way to measure even though it is not as accurate as underwater tests,you can tell when it improves a lot like mine did.

Purchasing a pant size smaller and instead of weighing yourself on the scale every two weeks, try the pants on and see how they feel. It's not always about weight loss for inches are just as important.

waist measurement,
when I notice my clothes getting bigger I check my waist and it is usually down 2 inches and sometimes does not show on the scale.I have lost 10.5 inches from my waist since Feb.1

How much exercise you do in a week, you can increase your goal. I walked yesterday 75 minutes and went to the gym for 65.

Set a exercise goal of how many exercise minutes you do in a week, not a day,because it could vary daily. You could increase it a little the more often you reach your goal.

I check my waist measurement monthly with a tape measure and my belt measurement as well and they are always equal. I will also track body fat monthly with my scale to give an estimate on that. I will not check other measurements because their are too many to do and would not get same measurement from the same spot on my body. I measure my waist at my belly button which is where women are suppose too. My fat was a high of 45% in Jan., last check it was a high of 35%,that is good.

I've heard that BMI readings can be deceptive. For example, body builders (who have almost NO body fat) would be "obese" by BMI calculations.

I KNOW I'm obese...but I also know to take a lot of the hype with a large grain of salt.

quarterly I have my A1C that measures my blood glucose over time. It's been coming down about .1 point/quarter.

Curious what the LCHF program will do to A1C in Dec 2015!

Daily, my encouragement comes from fasting blood sugar reading when I wake up. Have NEVER been below 100 since Type II diabetes pronouncement in June 2006. BUT, since starting LCHF on 10/6/15, I've had several readings below 100 and even an 85! Amazing.

Thanks for the post. I did some searching and found the photos you were referring to on the built lean site. Boy, I was surprized. My bmi according to the online calculator is 32.3, making me in the obese range. When I look at the photos of 30 and 35 % I'm in good company. Those bodies look great!! I do have to lose weight and I plan on some pilates and more yoga to tone my stomach muscles, but wow.

I've always thought that would be awesome. Sadly, there aren't any available in our small town. The city and the local country club both have considered offering something at their facilities, but so far none have been available. We'll see this summer, I guess.

Have you tried water workouts? I've found the deep water workout with a flotation belt provides resistance and a good workout while being easy on the joints and feet.

1. More energy: I feel like getting out and doing stuff instead of curling up on the couch.
2. Increased stamina: When I started this journey, a 10 minute workout felt like it would never end. I was happy to discover this week that I can complete a 60 minute workout class without feeling like I was going to collapse.
3. Better sleep: I was becoming quite dependent on sleep-aids to fall asleep at night, but I've only needed to take a sleeping pill once in the last month instead of the 2-3 times per week that had once been the norm.
4. Happier mood: I give credit for this to the exercise for releasing the 'feel good' endorphin in my brain.

I have terrible knees (chondromalacia patella on both) and have been hoping to feel some relief from losing weight and getting stronger. That's not happened. But I feel better in other ways, so I'm still way ahead!

I had lunch today with a friend I see somewhat often. When I returned to the office, she sent me a message asking what I'm doing differently, because I'm shrinking and look great! I feel the changes in my clothing, but it's sure nice to hear it from someone else!

I've decided to measure my progress based on how I am feeling and looking rather than the scale. I've had to measure my progress previously by a scale and it makes me feel pressued. This time I've decided to weigh in once a month and measure my progress on nutrition, activity, and physical well being. It's been a rough time getting started with all this nasty weather we've been having in New England. Spring hurry up!

I'm going to have to do some shopping soon, despite how much I loathe shopping. Even my "skinny" jeans are starting to feel loose, and I have to wear a belt almost every day. It's exciting, but I really wish I didn't need to buy the in-between sizes.

I'm surprised at how much easier it is to eat well and mindfully, instead of just throwing junk in my mouth. I feel better physically and mentally when I eat better!

Yesterday and today, I'm really starting to feel I'm getting stronger and not giving in to temptation.
I'm doing good as of yesterday getting my 8 glasses of water in (at least 8). I believe it help to have Spark Coach in my daily journey. I decided I was worth it, and I find the yearly rate very reasonable.
I'm determined I will reach my goal weight again. emoticon emoticon

Spark People Team Leader, GLITTERGIRL, from Team, "I Can't Do This On My Own", helped me reach my goal in 2012. I was able to maintain my weight for several months, but now I have to get serious again as much of my hard work I let go of, putting my focus on another issue. I will keep on, until I get back to my goal.

I've been pulling up my jeans more often and they feel different on me.
Been averaging over 10 cups of water a day
I can get lower to the floor when doing modified pushups
I feel mentally stronger about the whole process.

I had a skirt that I bought at my heaviest... it was way too tight and one of those "I'll fit into this eventually" outfits.

This morning I put it on, and it fell right down my hips. I was completely shocked in the best way possible! emoticon
