Setting smaller short term goals is a solid recommendation. It helps to keep you motivated. Another way I stay motivated is I keep a list of 5 lb non-food rewards! It's so much fun to anticipate my next reward. I'm 1.4 lbs from my 25 lb reward! Whoop!

I agree with all those things! Using them all together has been like a magic bullet for me this time around. I ordered a FitBit and love it, too. It's funny how motivational it is for me! Just knowing I have the thing on makes me want to move!

Great discussion and tips shared here!

What's supported me has been the following: tracking exercise, drinking enough water, getting enough sleep, tracking nutrition and engaging with the online community, resources and tools. I purchased my SPAT a year ago and love it! It is easy to attach to my shoes and syncs beautifully with the fitness tracker. I like seeing the distinction between fitness/activity minutes too.

I agree, that it is so important to drink water. We should drink 8 - 8oz. glasses a day.

I have found that by using the nutrition tracker, and recording your food daily, and exercising 5 days a week if possible; I love doing 7 days a week. I usually do 30 minutes a day of either riding my stationary bike, or doing 30 minutes of walk aerobics with Leslie Sansone. It is so helpful and motivating to track & record your nutrition and exercise.

I also felt it would be helpful to try Spark Coach for an extra boost of motivation. The price is reasonable and it is well worth it.

Water is our best friend! I get a tall (16 oz) glass ready before bed and put it in the fridge. In the morning I grab it before I do another thing, then sip on it while I exercise and get ready for work. By the time I leave the house, I'm already 2 cups into my goal for the day!

I focus on a few things each month - trying to keep it simple and realize I don't have to figure everything out at once. January's goals were water intake, exercise, No mountain dew.
I am being fairly consistent but am realizing (like always) the only way to drop pounds is to journall all my food. So that. too has been added.

February I'm adding concentrating on mindleaa eating and mastering the plank.

Focus! You can do this!

So you've been happy with the SPAT? I've been thinking about getting one, but I keep reading that it isn't accurate. Yours has been? I use the pedometer feature on my smartphone, but it's kind of a pain making sure it's ALWAYS in my pocket!

I agree with you, BLONDEGENIUS, tracking all my nutritrition and tracking my exercise keeps my weight loss going. It keeps me motivated too. I have the SPAT, and I like how that shows my steps for the day. Recording your accomplishments definitely boosts your morale. I know all this is motivating for me. I joined Spark Coach because I felt that would be another aid in helping me reach my goal once again.

Tracking has been my key to weight loss. I spent a month tracking every bite faithfully, and now I still track faithfully at least 3 days per week. It keeps me conscious of what I'm putting in my mouth and helps me notice triggers and problem areas I should address.

I find that exercising seven days a week, is something I feel motivated to do. It definitely helps with weight loss, and tracking my food daily is also a motivating factor for me. I bought the SPAT last year; that is also an asset. Tracking exercise along with the tracking of food are assets to weight loss.

DO THE CHALLENGES & SPARK STREAKS HELP ME? (Little Black Dress emoticon , team, daily question)

The hard thing for me emoticon , I am finding, is when I break a streak or challenge, for what ever reason, I want to give up on all of them! been streaking since I started EVERYDAY emoticon since March 16, 2012! emoticon I made a commitment to Spark DAILY, until I give up on keeping my goal of healthy living! No matter what the scale says, what the tape measure says, just keeping my trackers going, ALWAYS! emoticon ! I found Spark People as an answer to a prayer, 10 minutes after I asked for a solution to my being at an unhealthy weight!

THX to all the SP team mates March 11-17-2012 Who replied to my email! Out of 11,000 members there are only about 100 still Sparking! I'm shocked! Were RU, all? emoticon
I KNOW teams take time, Sparking takes time, BUT I still feel I am SO worth it! emoticon ! Yesterday I spent about 2 hours going through ALL my team mates to see IF they were still active on the team. The BIG awareness was, they are not even on Spark People, any more. I see there are SPARK PEOPLE event around the nation! My comment to that page:
Come to Las Vegas! Come to Sedona Arizona! Come to Hollywood, CA How do we 'find' this list, again? I want to keep checking back! I'm on a team " Las Vegas Santa 5K Run/walk " This year is Dec. 6, 2014 morning on the Freemont experience. We have won the Ginnis record 4 years in a row for most Santa's walking. (London & Japan included) I represent Spark People there! There are only a few of us on the team, but would LOVE to see the numbers GROW from the Spark Community! Not sure how to let everyone know, any ideas???? emoticon

Use the nutrition tracker daily. Record all your food. This way you see exactly how much you are eating every day. If you count calories or carbs this is the way to go. It works as a motivator for me. I feel motivated to exercise daily. Exercise daily, even if it's only for 10 minutes, but do exercise. It's bringing me to my goal. emoticon emoticon

Spark People Team Leader, GLITTERGIRL, from Team, "I Can't Do This On My Own", helped me reach my goal in 2012. I was able to maintain my weight for several months, but now I have to get serious again as much of my hard work I let go of, putting my focus on another issue. I will keep on, until I get back to my goal.

Good advice on portion control. I have starting cooking separate for family and me. I try to follow the nutrition tracker meals as close as I can. If I have to change (usually because I don't have something at home for this meal), I go back to one I have already done. That way I am still on track though not following the plan exactly.I have lost a little but still fluctuating from day to day. I'm going to get this on track though. Thank you Spark People.
