Thanks for sharing, Paula! That's definitely why I've been so much more successful this time around than ever in the past. I haven't been "on a diet." I've been eating well, meaning I eat good foods (mostly whole foods) and I eat much more intentionally.

3 Quick Tips to Motivate Yourself to Live a Healthy Lifestyle

We have all done it. We start a workout and health regimen with the best intentions. We set our goals and start off on the right foot. Then two months down the road our lives catch up to us. We start to skip a workout here and there, eat a late night cookie and step on the scale only to find we have gain a few. One of the hardest things in life is to stay motivated for the long haul. That's why we have put together this guide of the top 3 tips to help you keep motivated and reach your health and wellness goals.

1. Find Your Motivation

Everyone has a reason to start working out and eating well. It may be because you are sick of having low energy, not being able to fit into your clothes or even as a way to bond with your kids. Whatever the reason is, you need to find your motivation and focus on it. This is what keeps you going when it gets tough.

2. Focus, Focus, Focus

Focus and discipline gives you the strength to keep going when you want to give up. There are a few things you can do to keep your focus. Start by creating a vision board of what you want to achieve from living a healthy lifestyle. A vision board is a collage of images that represent what you want out of life. For example, if you want to lose weight then include a picture of what your target body looks like. Another great way to focus and stay motivated is to find music that makes you want to move. Whenever you don't feel like working out just put on your favorite motivational track to give you the boost you need.

3. Change Your Routine

Routine is the biggest killer of motivation. You need to change it up to stay excited about what you are doing. If you run on the same treadmill day after day, change your routine by running outside. A great way not to have a stagnant regimen is to do something different every day. Don't eat the same things for breakfast, lunch and dinner every week. Change your meal plan up to include new and healthy foods. Start playing different sports so you are continually challenged. Change is the spice of life; embrace it!

Living a healthy lifestyle is the best choice a person can make. This choice doesn't come without its challenges though. Use these three simple tips to stay motivated, focus and change things up in your efforts towards your health goals.

I believe that this journey is one that is with us our whole life. It is about how we live our lifestyle if you like.

I don't look at it as a diet I look at it as finding something I can do or a way of eating healthy etc..for the long haul for the rest of my life. i don't look at it as a chore that has to be done once I'm at maintenance I'm suddenly free of this chore or whatever.

For me I'm not and never have been on a diet I'm making changes to live a healthy lifestyle. I take bits and pieces from different "Diets" for want of a better and have my own program and lifestyle change for the long haul that works for me.

1. I loosely follow along the guidelines of eating right for my blood type. I'm a B+ (There is a booked called EAT RIGHT 4 YOUR TYPE" by Peter D.Adamo

2. I follow along with avoiding Wheat. I'm not Celiac but according to my blood type I should avoid wheat BUT not Gluten. There is a difference. Check out the Book "WHEAT BELLY" by William Davis to read and understand the fact that there is a difference between having to be Gluten free and wheat free. It's very interesting let me tell you.

3. I follow along with the 5 rules of the Leptin Diet by Bryon Richards as I try to keep my hormones in balance as well.

4. For me and our family we avoid Preservatives and artificial stuff in food do not drink soft drinks or the diet soft drinks they are eevn worse for you.

5. I also try to avoid foods that cause inflmation as I have slight Osteo Arthritis in my hips and at 49 years old I'm not going down the road of Hip Replacements like doctors would have liked to have done 2 years ago.

6. For us it is whole round approach a healthy lifestyle not a diet. What I have found is working for me and is easy for me follow my whole life without feeling deprived or like I'm on a diet.

Anyhow what works for me may not work for you. But what you have to remember is that at whatever stage you are at with your weight loss beginning or maintenance is that you are following a healthy lifestyle choice for the long haul not one or more diets.

This is just my idea hope what I do my help in some small way. Have a awesome day everyone and emoticon emoticon

I believe that's absolutely true! That's why I've failed in the past; I've been on "diets," instead of living a different lifestyle.

Hi,
I read the other day that when approaching or reaching maintenance the journey is not over.
Perhaps that is what is meant by "lifestyle" and one's approach to it.

I'm currently re-evaluating my motivations and goals. I'm approaching the maintenance stage, so I'm thinking hard about triggers and stressors. This is also helping me stay on track to get to my goal weight. I think going back through our goals from time to time is essential to keep the weight loss going. It's also important to examine what's motivating us. Using a specific point in time (like a trip or event) is less effective for me, because after that even takes place I'm at a bit of a loss for motivation to maintain the loss.

How about you? How do you stay motivated?

Support Your Liver to Lose Weight

clear fatty liver for weight loss

The liver plays a major role in metabolism and detoxification, so keeping it squeaky clean is an important key to weight management! All the nutrient-rich blood that leaves the digestive system dumps into the liver, where carbohydrates, fats and proteins are metabolized. When you eat an excess of fat and sugars, your liver becomes clogged and shuttles the overflow to all the wrong places in the body, like your arteries and the brain. In this congested state, the liver has a hard time using fat as fuel and starts to store it instead of breaking it down. Makes sense, right?

So now I can hear you practically begging ‘please, help me unclog my liver!’ Well, one of the best ways to show your liver some love is to simply follow the Five Rules of The Leptin Diet.

Rules 1 & 2: Never eat after dinner and eat three small meals a day. By not snacking between meals and not eating after dinner, you are creating an environment in which the liver can start to dump clogged fat, bringing your triglyceride levels down.

Rule 3: Do not eat large meals. In eating smaller meals, the liver is not so overwhelmed with excessive fat and sugar and has a chance to rest and clean house.

Rule 4: Eat a breakfast containing protein. To help the liver get back into this fat burning mode, it requires protein. This is why starting the day with a high protein breakfast is recommended.

Rule 5: Reduce the amount of carbohydrates you eat. Finally, by not eating an excessive amount of carbohydrates your blood sugar levels remain more stable and the liver does not have the added stress of finding a place to shuttle the excess sugar.

Along with following the Five Rules of The Leptin Diet, supplementing with certain nutrients can help clear liver stagnation. Lipotropic nutrients are those which help move fat out of the liver.

Two of the top fat busting nutrients are acetyl-l-carnitine (ALC) and pantethine. ALC has the unique ability to metabolize damaged fat fragments and clear them from the liver as well as the brain. Pantethine helps to clear out a fatty liver and lower triglycerides by transporting fat to where it can be used as fuel. Many other nutrients also help protect the liver and aid in the detoxification process, including lipoic acid, silymarin, N-acetyl-cysteine (NAC), curcumin, quercetin and B vitamins, to name a few.

By implementing a few lifestyle changes, making better food choices and supplementing with certain nutrients, you can start to turn your liver into a fat burning machine. So what are you waiting for? Start cleaning your liver!

Interesting artcle I felt worth sharing:

Food Enzymes and Hydrochloric Acid Can Relieve Gas and Bloating

Many people experience gas and bloating after eating. Gas can accumulate in the stomach or the intestines, causing pain, rumbling and indigestion. Gas is a product of incomplete digestion and an indication that food is fermenting in the gut, instead of being digested properly and assimilated into the body as nutrients. Food enzymes and a change in the digestive pH, by taking betaine hydrochloric acid, can improve digestion and relieve painful gas and bloating.

As people age, their levels of digestive enzymes decrease, so many find they need to add supplements to meals.

Also as the body ages, the amount of hydrochloric acid secreted to aid in digestion decreases. This leads to a condition known as hypochlorhydria. Hypochlorhydria begins as a gut deficiency and is one of the leading causes of gas and indigestion, and it can lead to many diseases and chronic inflammation. Without this important stomach acid, protein cannot be digested properly, and many nutrients cannot be absorbed. In addition, acid from the stomach is a signal to the pancreas to perform its function, so hypochlorhydia can lead to problems in the pancreas as well. Diseases associated with low stomach acid include asthma, lupus, anemia, psoriasis, arthritis, ulcers, and many more. Indicators of low stomach acid can be simple gas and bloating, or more complex conditions, such as food allergies, constipation, anemia, and nausea.

Food allergies may also cause gas. Many people are allergic to wheat and/or dairy. Allergy tests can confirm this, but a simpler method is to remove suspected foods from the diet. If digestion returns to normal, eliminate the allergic foods for a few months and then begin to slowly reintroduce them. Food sensitivities can be healed in this manner, by removing the irritating food for a few months.

Let's make some changes,

That looks pretty good, Paula! Thank you for sharing! I stick to recipes I can whip up in my Bullet - 1 cup, can take it to go. Very little clean up. I'm lazy and only want single servings!

About 3/4 cup fat free Vanilla Greek yogurt (I try to keep the individual serving cups on hand)
About 1 cup spinach
About 1 cup Cherry Berry Blend frozen berries from Walmart
Water to blend

That's my favorite smoothie; I'm hooked. Sometimes I put a Tbsp of cocoa in it. I also try to keep cut up banana in the freezer, and I'll throw a few pieces of that in.

Commit to just one small change each day. One new habit that will stay with you forever. e.g.

Be in bed by 9pm
Drink an extra glass of water than is your normal amount
No eating / snacking after 7.00pm at night
Declutter one thing a day from your house/home
Have a health shake/smoothie for Breakfast

What will yours be?

I can suggest setting up a weight loss / healthy lifestyle vision board somewhere you will set it constantly as a reminder.

Also a great thing to do is some other Sparkpeople challenges I am doing two at the moment the:

The 30-Day #HealthyHabitsReset! AND The META 30- Day Small Changes Challenge.

They are great so far as each day you have an email of something you have to do which helps and also serves as a reminder that you are not on a diet but living a healthy lifestyle.

Good idea to also check your cleaning products. Check those labels also and see what nasty chemicals are in them. If you are unsure of a name or word Google it or Utube it and see if you like what you read or see about it.

Here's to our health and weight loss.

Below in the link to the left is a list of Health conditions, each is a link to our health card which gives the possible metaphysical cause and a positive affirmation to help counter the problem and help in the process of healing.

I do believe you are what you think! If you have some sort of illness or physical condition / limitation then check out the link below and see what it says for your condition. Have the affirmation somewhere you can see it regularly (perhaps on your vision board) and say it out loud many times a day.

when I read this myself, I felt compelled to share it. When a 101 old doctor gives advice it is definitely worth sharing.
As a 97 year old Doctor, he was interviewed, and gave his advice for a long and healthy life.
Shigeaki Hinohara is one of the world’s longest -serving physicians and educators. Hinohara’s magic touch is legendary:

Since 1941 he has been healing patients at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo and teaching at St. Luke’s College of Nursing.
He has published around 15 books since his 75th birthday including one “Living Long, Living Good” that has sold more than 1.2 million copies. As the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live a long and happy life, a quest in which no role model is better than the doctor himself.

Sugarbaby, "lumpy" is a great watchword! I have that need to chew, too, and I try to do the same thing. But now I'll always think of it as "make it lumpy!"

Jessie, I like the idea of having your own, designated, sets of measuring cups. I'm forever digging for one, although we have 2 sets. ha! We cook a lot, so it seems they're always dirty. I'm adding a set to my shopping list!

SBailiff, have you considered planning an evening snack and setting up your daily calories to allow room for it? It might help, since you know you're going to want one. Put premeasured bags of veggies in the fridge so you can just grab one (or 2!) and munch. Build it in so you already know what you're going to do ahead of time and so you don't feel like you're fighting against the "no" you feel weighing on you. If you really like to have your drink or 2 in the evening, plan ahead for that, too. As RKottek said, alcohol will make you want to overeat, so planning out that snack(s) ahead of time may help in that regard, too.

I do a lot better if I find ways to say yes to myself instead of no - without making my goals go bust!

I hope I'm doing this right - posting on the forum.

It's early morning and I'm usually feeling optimistic. I keep within my calorie goal, and get my 30 minutes of walking in. Lunch time is OK too. No problem. I set the alarm clock to remind me (on the hour) to drink 8 oz of water -- it's working!

My problem is afternoon/evening. I have an early dinner - because my husband works 4am-1pm each day - and goes to bed at 7:30pm. After he goes to bed, my munchies kick it. My will-power sinks to all day low. I throw my plans out the window. And, I usually have an alcoholic drink (or two). I have to stay up - because I have a teenager that doesn't go to bed until 10-11pm.

I think I need motivation to kick in around 6pm.

I have been doing the 10 minutes of exercise a day. Plus I track everything. I also have my own two sets of measuring cups so I know exactly how much I eat and in my family of 6, my measuring cups are not to be used for family cooking since I already have a ton of those too.

Think lumpy for supper! Since my ( and probably yours) metabolism slows toward evening/ nighttime I decrease my caloric intake later in the day......BUT as I think ( low calory) and LUMPY I have prepared a homemade vegetable soup with large chunks of those veggies. The broth based soup is filling and satisfies my chewing need. Then some protein and a piece of fruit for dessert takes care of my day. Nighttime snack is 100 calory popcorn and perhaps an apple sliced thinly, if I'm still hungry a warm cup of my lumpy 50 calorie soup tops the day off.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Booze can be a major motivation-killer
it also can act as a vehicle to over-eat, eat wrong things etc

Motivation is the key, of course to what keeps my weight loss going, even though it is a slow journey. I track my food every day. I rarely ever miss getting in 30 minutes of exercise a day, seven days a week. I have a Spark Activity Tracker. I record my exercise every day, and now I also have Spark Coach added to my other motivators. I love every part of my spark Journey. I met my goal before, and I will do it again. I even reached maintenance. I held onto it for a number of months. When I took my focus off my diet, that is where I erred. I know better now. I will reach my goal again. I have no doubts on that. Spark People is the best place for me to journey in my weight loss.
It is possible for all of us to be sparked on this website. We can reach our goals here.

Spark People Team Leader, GLITTERGIRL, from Team, "I Can't Do This On My Own", helped me reach my goal in 2012. I was able to maintain my weight for several months, but now I have to get serious again as much of my hard work I let go of, putting my focus on another issue. I will keep on, until I get back to my goal.

Ultimately, we're each responsible for every bite that goes into our mouths. I always remind myself that the person who's encouraging me to eat won't have to work that "one bite" or cheat meal off later!

Everyone is always saying it is ok to have one bite or its ok to cheat once in awhile. I will remember your "horse" saying, It sounds like something I would say.

I also like a cup of green tea or herbal tea at night.

I noticed the more I track exercise and eating here the better I do- holds me accountable and I can 'see' how hard I'm working and how healthy I'm eating- I also print out a work out calendar so I can check off each day I work out and record the minutes- seeing it as I work out helps me push harder to do a few minutes longer or harder than the day prior.

Setting smaller short term goals is a solid recommendation. It helps to keep you motivated. Another way I stay motivated is I keep a list of 5 lb non-food rewards! It's so much fun to anticipate my next reward. I'm 1.4 lbs from my 25 lb reward! Whoop!

emoticon on the loss, RKOTTEK!!

@ UKNOW
It may be good to break down your overall goal to weekly and monthly smaller goals
