Good advice on portion control. I have starting cooking separate for family and me. I try to follow the nutrition tracker meals as close as I can. If I have to change (usually because I don't have something at home for this meal), I go back to one I have already done. That way I am still on track though not following the plan exactly.I have lost a little but still fluctuating from day to day. I'm going to get this on track though. Thank you Spark People.

congratulations, keep up the good work! I moved my belt another notch last week. I even hiked seven miles in a nature preserve yesterday even though my allergies have been trying to kill me this summer.

If you do not buy it, you will not eat it. I do not count calories, I count pounds and inches. I exercise about ten minutes a day and add five repetitions to each exercise. This helps my body and muscles to adjust to the increased activity.

Since November of 2010 I have lost 110 plus pounds and kept them off. Now at 260, I promised myself that I would keep going to reach my goal.

Good Luck with your weight loss. I've also started eliminating some foods that I know are not good for me or my caloric intake, or my hips. I'm adding a lot more water and veggies to my diet.

My top tips for success.

1. Keeping track of my food
2. Celebrating Non-Scale Victories
3. Losing the weight really isn't about food, it's a mind set of a way to live
4. Setting small goals - 10 pound marks
5. Blogging about my journey. There is something special about writing about my experience. I am not someone who likes social media at all. I don't Facebook, twitter, vine, whatever, but I do Spark. Sharing my experience and connecting to others that way, is empowering.

By developing good habits and sticking with them keeps the weight loss going. I keep myself motivated, and you can to by developing the habit of exercising every day, no matter how much and how long. You can increase it a little each day or week until you have it fitting for you. I also use the nutrition tracker daily. That is another motivator for me. I stay within my guidelines that way. I record my exercise, and I bought the spark activity tracker. I think it is a motivator too, to have some kind of tracker t5hat lets you know daily how many steps you're taking. Record your different forms of exercise daily, such as your chores. It will lift your spirit to better health. Do it for you! emoticon emoticon

Being accountable every day for what you eat, record it in the nutrition tracker, and be sure you do some form of exercise each day. It has become a wonderful habit for me, and it motivates me to do the best I can for that day.

I lost 5 lbs in the past two weeks simply by snacking on raw vegetables when I was hungry between meals.

Also, I'm getting better at eating lots of veggies with a little bit of meat and a true serving size of some kind of starch (e.g., grain, potato, etc.) for dinner. A serving of starch is a lot smaller than most Americans are used to eating at one time! Sometimes I go without the meat.

Finally, even when the weather or allergy season is bad, I still walk inside my house, following Leslie Sansone's Part 1 and Part 2 walking videos on Youtube. You can adjust your effort as necessary, and it doesn't take a lot of room. Here are the links:

Remember the importance of activity. Even 10 minutes helps!

For me, 10 minutes is a walk around our neighborhood block. When I find myself thinking, "Oh, no time for exercise today..." The reminder on my Spark Activity Tracker page to be active for 10 minutes each day is a wonderful reminder. A walk around the block is doable for me and I always feel so much better after getting up, getting out and doing it.

I have found the Spark Activity Tracker to be a highly motivational tool. We have wonderful monthly challenges that come with the ability to earn virtual trophies and win physical prizes (Haven't won any physical prizes, but have earned many virtual trophies.)

I'm really pleased with SP & with myself. I have twelve (12) lbs. less pounds that my spine has to support - core muscles are getting stronger. Since I had back surgery in Nov. 2013 & until I went into Physcial Therapy & do my 60 min. "core exercises" every day, I didn't know what core muscles were.

I normally put on weight when away from home, staying with hospitable friends. Used to put on a kilo a week. Put on 3 kilos during a month in Germany, and took 3 months to get rid of them. Went away for 3 weeks recently and took my scales with me. Daily weigh ins showed me what the trend was. Weight gain down to 1.5 kilos! I have ordered a small, light portable scale, which should help when travelling

FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!
My first goal on joining SparkPeople on Feb. 8, 2014 was to lose 6 lbs. by my birthday --
today is my 73rd birthday - April 10 & as of Wed. April 9 -- I weighed 181.7 -- lost 11.6 lbs. -- that's 10 weeks with an avg. of 1.4 lb. a week.

This is a lifestyle not a diet -- I'm pressing on to my next goal & then the next goal in small increments. Want to celebrate my 54th wedding anniversary in Nov. with a healthy 50 lbs. weight loss.

Thank you God!
Thank you to my DH & Family!
Thank you SparkPeople for the encouragement, message boards, website content and the two Spark books that I am in the process of reading from cover to cover.

Good luck sparkvenice our niece just did the Mesa AZ tough mudder that she trained for for a year. Boy was she in good shape. At the age of 50 her all girl team did the over 10 mile course with 25 horrible obstacles in 2 hours and 40 minutes. She loved it and wanted to do it again as soon as she finished.

Eat food with natural high nutrients not fortified and set out to reach challenging goals to help you stay focus. For me it was training for half marathon and once that was completed. I started doing p90x3 twice to prepare for a mud run obstacle course in Oct.

Track Your Food.

I just listened to a Video Tip shared by Coach Nicole for doubling your weight loss. The tip shared was food tracking.

Since I have been on my health journey for a bit over 9 months now, I decided to review my progress and see if this has held true for me.

For the first 6 months of my journey I did not focus on food. I knew I needed to move and that had been my primary focus for the first 6 months.

On December 23, I decided that I needed to be more aware of what I was eating and began tracking my food. I have been food tracking for 3 months now.

Guess what? For the first 6 months I averaged a 4 pound weight loss each month. Since I began food tracking, I have averaged a 7.73 pound weight loss each month. That's nearly double!

I have found Spark People's Nutrition Tracker to be a very useful tool. I am now more aware of my food choices and find myself eating more consciously.

TIP 1: Exercise every day -- usually in the am -- if for some reason I don't -- I will do in the pm even if it is before bedtime. My exercises are in the form of physical therapy exercises -- 60+ minutes faithfully.

I had back surgery in Nov. had to build up my abdominal "core" -- with great instructions from my physical therapist I do the program at home now & for the first time in many, many, years my back does not shout in pain. There might be some discomfort or an ache but I gladly accept that & am so glad I opted for the surgery(also have had both total knee replacements).

TIP 2: PORTION CONTROL -- no longer have family-style meals
no longer go to buffet or All You Can Eat restaurants

Power walk in place, add a few kicks, side steps and knee lifts when you don't feel like doing anything. Doing this while watching tv or a movie still gets you exercise and the time goes by fast if you don't watch the clock.

Find ways to add more movement to your day...even if it is just a little bit.

Like FIT4HZGLORY says, it is slow and steady that wins the race.

It's the moral of the story, The Tortoise and the Hare, which is why I chose the tortoise on my ticker.

I bought SodaStream. Loving it. Making soda at home for 5 cal a pop, no artificial anything, helps to meet my water quota (I hate bland water, even with lemon). They have a million flavors.

Don't give up

SOMETHINGNEWJAN- That is so true. You really get tire of losing the same pounds over and over again. That is why we have to make up our minds to stop letting this thing beat us to death. We have to stop it and put our noses to the grindstone and move ahead taking small steps each day. Do it one day at a time. emoticon

FREEDEE54- Hope you are doing better today. We are here to help and encourage each other. Just hang in there. Here is a emoticon to brighten your day.
