I've been having some knee issues and am trying REALLY hard to rehab it, so no running right now. This morning, I did legs (strengthing the quads) and just over 30 minutes on the elliptical to have the same motion without the impact. I have to get back to it.....

I've been such a slacker since Air Force. There's been a lot of craziness going on in my life lately, and I've found that I jsut have very little desire to run. I did 2 miles on the treadmill Saturday, and then 12 with some MRTT friends on Sunday... but that's it.

I HAVE GOT TO RUN TODAY!!

The ironic thing is that I know that getting out for a run will HELP with the stress I'm under, I just can't seem to make myself do it most of the time.

4 miles easy on the treadmill this morning. Still taking it easy on the calf. I can't believe how long it's taking for this stupid thing to heal! Ridiculous!
I guess I'm not as young as I used to be. LOL

Had a decent 3 mile easy run on the treadmill this morning. It was a little tough on my calf, which is still pretty sore from Saturday's half marathon... but I hoped that a run would help loosen it up a little. It did seem to help.

Saturday's half marathon was pretty great... My time was a little slower than I wanted, but considering the heat and humidity, and the fact that I'm coming back from an injury, I'm ok with it. I had fun... and I know that when it's cooler, my times will get a little faster!

I think I am finally going to be back to full-fledged running now.. not just "trudging through races for MM status". LOL
My injuries are finally all healed up (knock-on-wood), and I am ready to train again.

Today, I am shooting for 5-7 miles, probably on the treadmill. Still trying to avoid my neighborhood's hills until I'm sure my foot is 100%, and I have a half marathon this weekend.

I'm planning on laying down a few miles this afternoon after my ST workout. I've been dealing with some pain in my foot since Hatfield McCoy, but it's getting better, so giving it a shot!

Great job on your half MarathonDad!

Hey Beck!
I ran 4 miles with the BOB yesterday..it was 2 miles in the morning and 2 more in the evening.

Today i did 'living room lifting': I keep my dumbbells in the living room for any given moment of available time to lift. I did various squats, some off the ottoman, dips, pushups, abs.

Tomorrow may just be yoga because it is DS' birthday. But Wednesday i'm planning a 3 mile run.

I'm trying to commit to a few more races this season. Probably just 2 5ks because i'm not trained up for a Half or Full. In the fall i'm going to plan for 2 halfs and a full. We'll see :)

I ran 3 miles this morning on the treadmill at the gym. Felt pretty darn good. I have lost a lot of speed and stamina during my recovery.,,, but I'll get it back over time. It's a good thing I'm not planning on shooting for any kind of BQ anytime soon. LOL
I have a lot of marathons planned for this year, but I have already planned to take some time off after Space Coast in November to try to PR (and hopefully break 4 hours) in either Tallahassee or Albany in 2013.
We'll see what happens....
I just have to stay injury free!

I'm planning on another run today... maybe just another 3 miles or so. My shin hurt a little yesterday morning after the one on Tuesday, so not going to try to push it too much.

I actually ran yesterday! 3 miles in 32 minutes and then a 1.1 mile walk/run thing for 14 minutes. No real pain.
This morning, I've got a little pain. It's weird though, because most of the time, it feels like it's more in my calf than shin... but sometimes, it feels like the old shin pain too.

I'm resting my legs today and doing upper body. Tomorrow, if the pain is gone again, I will try another short run.

I've heard that shin splints can get to the point where they become chronic and will never really go away, so I am just hoping that I didn't push it to the point that that has become the case. I'm hoping I don't have to stop running for an extended period of time to get rid of them. If so, then so be it. But I won't be happy

You would think, as excited as I have been about being able to run again... I would've gotten up early and done it... but the alarm went off and I said... "Um, no" and went back to sleep. So, after work it shall be.

I haven't run all week... following PT's orders. Today is a week. Tomorrow, I shall run. Planning on doing at least one... maybe 2... mile(s) to see how it feels with the big run coming up on Saturday.... the mile or two will give me an indication of how my leg feels to run again, and whether I need to drop back to the half, or if I can do the full, in Albany!

So excited about this weekend, no matter what race I end up doing!!

Still no running for me, but I am very happy to report that I am on day 4 with little-to-no pain.

I have PT again this afternoon! So excited to feel like I am finally on the road to recovery!! And can I just say, for the record, that shin splints SUCK!

I am under orders from my physical therapist to not even ATTEMPT to run this week. So, I've basically just been doing my PT exercises and crunches since Friday. I may do some upper body work today, along with abs. I REALLY miss running, but my leg is beginning to get better with the PT and rest, so I am really hopeful that I will be able to run in Albany and at Seaside this weekend. We shall see...

Yeah, Sue, I would say get it checked out! Glad your run felt so effortless though!

I actually have run three times over the long weekend. Once was run/walk intervals with a small amount of pain on the treadmill Saturday night. I did a mile Sunday around my neighborhood, but it hurt more. And yesterday I did ~3 miles with very little pain on the treadmill.

Laying down some miles feels awesome. Hopefully the PT can start getting me back to my old self and I can start really getting ready for my big spring race season!!

I ran an easy 7 miles today. It was great, easy, smooth; I felt like I could keep going forever. But now BOTH feet are hurting. WTH?!?! Beginning to think I may need to get this assessed. emoticon

I ran a slow 4 miles today. Hoping to build and not being very patient. But the ankle is telling me to take it slow. I ran a 4 mile tempo on Monday and that darn ankle was screaming at me. I got scared when my step-daughter told me she's expecting us to keep an 8:50 pace when we run our HM together in September.

No run yesterday or today. Super duper sore and achy shin.

But Sunday's marathon was pretty good. I did 10 minutes faster than my time in Louisiana, I got under 4:45, and was even on pace to PR up until mile 16! So, now I know that I DO actually still have it in me to run sub 5 hour marathons consistently!

Now, my goal is to rest as much as possible, let my shins heal... and be ready for the spring races we have planned!

Hopefully tomorrow will still be nice...

Still no running for me since Louisiana. I do have a doctor appt today with my Orthopaedic doc. So... hoping I can get some kind of answers. I've read that a stress fracture CAN show on an x-ray if it's been long enough that it's already started to heal. Apparently, remodeling of the bone shows up, whereas a slight crack does not. Soooo... since this started like 3-4 weeks ago, maybe it'll show up if that's what it is. If not, then I'll probably have to have an MRI! *blech*
So, I am currently sitting at my desk at work with my icepack on my shin, counting down til time to leave. Leaving work at 11:30 to go home and find some insurance info I need, then heading to the shoe store and doc, not necessarily in that order.

I think I would Becki! It looked like a really nice course.
I'm hoping that I can do the Keys Ragnar Relay in January 2013.

Thanks Suezette! It was a gorgeous course! I'm thinking about going back... probably not in 2013 because I want to do Goofy... but possibly in 2014. You want to go with?

The Louisiana Marathon went great on Sunday. Except for the GI issues that I had (again) and the shin splints that gave me trouble from mile 18 on...
I finished in under 5 hours for the first time in a full since last March when I PR'd at 4:28! So, as long as I can figure out my GI problems and get these shin splints under control.. I might have a chance to PR again. If not at Tallahassee next month, then hopefully at Albany Marathon in early March.

Ran the Red Nose Half in Columbus, Ga yesterday, despite my shin and calf issues. I did pretty good! 2:10! My legs are hurting today, so I am resting. The Louisiana Marathon is 6 days away, so I am resting (probably) all week.

Sunday, I went out hoping for 16 miles, but I am supposed to be tapering... and my body was pretty tired from 3 long run weeks in a row without a step-back week (16, 17 and 20 mile long runs).. so I decided to stop at 11. It was a decent run... pretty good pacing. AP was around 9:40 or so.

Yesterday, I did 3 on the treadmill. Felt great.

Today, I am hoping for 4-6, depending on how I feel. My daughter is cooking dinner, so that'll help with time, considering I have to go grocery shopping when I get off work. Exciting stuff! LOL

Right there with you on the April thing, Wendy! I have half-full-half three straight weekends in January, marathons on back to back weekends in February, 2 fulls and a half (back to back full and half) in March... that should get me ready (endurance-wise) for April, I think. Not planning on ANY of them fast, except maybe a PR attempt at either Tallahassee or Albany. I'm thinking no for Albany, though... since we have a half the next day! LOL

No run for me yesterday. I took a rest day from running and did cross-training. My shins are some better today, at least so far.. and I even ran out to my car a few minutes ago to get something I forgot, and ran back... no shin issues. I'm gonna go ahead and go for it with my run today and see how it feels. Then an off day on Friday, and long run on Saturday!

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!! 16 members on this team now! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

My running has been mainly cross training right now - hate the lack of darkness and busy weekends, but the days are getting longer again, so yay!!!!!!!!!

Looking for a good long run on Jan 2nd - weird that I have to plan it that far in advance, but it will be here before we know it!

Next event is 1/15 in Louisiana, I should be ready for that full - won't be a fast one, but from here on out, all my events are training for a special weekend in April, when I'll need my endurance.

This fall may be be about speed - until then its ENDURANCE baby!!!!

Last night I did 4.12 miles in 40 minutes on the treadmill... NO KNEE BRACE!!
I won't make a habit of that until the pain is totally gone... but it felt GREAT to not wear it for a change!!
Now that the knee issue is clearing up, of course... a new issue begins. Got some pain in my right shin... feels like the beginning of shin splints. Gonna take a day or two off from running and do some cross training and see how it feels next time.

How are you all doing?

I had a pretty awesome 6.5 miles at the park yesterday. My training plan called for 4, but I needed a few extra to burn off some holiday calories. Hopefully it helped. LOL.
My run had negative splits for all miles but 1! I was pretty thrilled with it.

DIstance covered: 6.5 miles
Average Pace: 10 min/mile
Total time: 1.04:29
Splits:
Mile 1 - 10:40
Mile 2 - 10:16
Mile 3 - 10:01
Mile 4 - 9:57
Mile 5 - 9:28
Mile 6 - 9:35
Last .5 mile - 4:32 (9:03 pace)

Today, I am planning on 4 miles easy. It's been raining pretty hard this morning, so right now, I am planning on the treadmill. But the forecast says it's supposed to clear up this afternoon... so I may get to do it outside.... We'll see.

Great news about the shoes, Becki. I kinda freeze up when I need new ones; never know what to do...that time is coming soon for me since I had to resort to using my running shoes for my everyday the whole time I was recovering from the ankle fracture. The only things that were comfortable at all.

And thanks for the encouragement. I am feeling a little better every day. Just have to remember to build back slow and easy to avoid further injury. I ran a full five miles today outside this morning and it felt great. Even with the 31 degree weather.

Sue - you are going to come back stronger than ever!!

Yesterday, I wasn't supposed to run at all, but I got new running shoes, and I HAD to at least try them out. I got on the treadmill for a 1.5 mile "recovery" run. Considering how sore I was (and still am) from Sunday's 17, that's what I am calling it.

The shoes are awesome. I got Mizuno Wave Enigma's this time. First time I have tried them but I read great reviews and that they were good for pronaters with a high arch (ME!) so I thought I would give them a try. LOVE THEM. They felt great right out of the box, which is rare, in my experience.

I did three miles today and five on Friday. I'm basically starting over after the ankle fracture; so the fact that I'm running 2 miles straight and excited about it is also frustrating. lol But I am making progress and feeling hopeful for a speedy recovery now that the splint is off. The pain seems to decrease each day and I feel my endurance is coming back quickly. Of course it is also hard to tell on a treadmill. The real test will come when I'm back outside next month.

Yesterday, I went out to do 20 miles (longest run before the Louisiana Marathon) and only managed 17. I probably COULD HAVE done the last 3, but my legs were so tired, and I kind of wimped out. I am now debating on whether to do it Friday, since I am off work. I guess, even though they aren't back to back long runs, 2 long runs in one week could be considered training for my double in April. LOL

After purposely detraining after my last HM (Space Coast) I am back on the HM training trail. I ran an 8 mile long run with the latter 4 miles into the wind. That made it on the harder side but I succeeded. I also learned that I LOVE Peanut Butter GU!!!!!!!!!!!! Bliss!

Great job, RB! I would officially dub you as a running whacko!

This weekend I did a set of back-to-back long runs to prepare for Goofy's Challenge in *gulp* three weeks! Yesterday I did 9.17, today 18.24. I feel like it went pretty well, and I was happy with my pacing. Today's run was a little rough, though, due to some really cold wind and a stomach cramp that I couldn't shake (I think it was because I ate way too festively last night...)

This evening I ran 3.23 miles outdoors, with Christmas lights to keep me company! I tried out my new CW-X capris (under sweats because it was 20* out) and loved them, and also, I hit a sub 10-minute mile average pace for the first time in forever!! I was at 9:49. Sooooo excited about that, and I felt pretty good at the end too!!

Sounds like a great plan. I brought ALL of my running stuff with me and will head to the bike path straight from work. Its just a 40 min run but running it where I love the most. This bike path is actually part of the race course for our Quad Cities Marathon which MAY be my MM qualifier (God willing) this September.

Thanks Laurie! Have a great run today!
I am supposed to do 5 today. I think I am going to either go to my Dad's neighborhood (FLAT, but traffic on one part of the street because he lives right behind Wal-Mart and Lowe's) or to the park that I normally go to. The park is just sooo boring to do anything over 3 miles. Just loop after loop after loop.
The plan right now is to get off work at 1:30, go by to see my boss about some "end of contract" questions, then head home, dress out, and go run.

Becki, great job! Our neighborhood has rolling hills and alot of times just knowing they are out there keeps my motivation stifled. That is why I am taking the opportunity to head to the flatter bike path after work today. Leaving a little early since it gets dark sooner.

Any form of ST? Ya, I'll get back to you on that one LOL.

Good job!

Yesterday, I got off work early and ran some errands that I needed to take care of.... I figure if my job with the company I now work for is going away and I have to use all of my leave, I may as well get off early a few days and enjoy it. ;)

After I ran my errands and got groceries put away, I was going to go for my run. I changed. I headed out to run my neighborhood. I made it to the end of my street (for those of you who have been to my house, you know that isn't far)... and turned around and went home.

My legs were still heavy and sore. I just couldn't do it. I took a shower, and laid on the couch to watch TV. I fell asleep and ended up taking a 3 hour nap! When I got up, it was almost 7 pm! I cooked a quick dinner and then decided to try a treadmill run.

It's amazing what a little extra rest will do!! I was able to do 4 miles and felt great, and then did 15 minutes of light strength training!!!

Maybe it was all subconscious to begin with. Maybe my body just didn't want to run in my hilly neighborhood and revolted against me. LOL
