I agree about April flying by emoticon ... can't believe it is already half over! My DS21 went back to college yesterday but only has about a month left before he comes back.

Hope everyone has a Marvelous Monday!!

Welcome back Dayspring! It's great to hear you are picking things back up!

Things are so busy! My exercise has fallen off a bit but I'm still getting in to track most days. It would be great to lose about 6 pounds by my wedding but I'm not sweating it, as long as I maintain which has not been an issue.

Thank you for the goodie Cookie! I'm very happy to be 3rd for SparkPoints!

I did better yesterday with my night eating issues lately ... I didn't eat the night away, which is great for me.

Excited to reset my SparkPeople program this morning for a fresh new beginning! You can make that goal Cookie!

I had a great St. Patricks Day. It started out tough, I was juggling wedding plans and work and then messed up a spreadsheet and had to start over. It got better in the evening, we met with the wonderful woman who is going to make my wedding cakes. She brought 6 cakes for us to try! I had saved tons of calories but apparently there really is only so much cake you can eat before you just have to stop from sugar overload. Just a couple bites of each of the 6 was more than enough. Anyway I am very happy with her and our choices and ended up just slightly under my calories for the day.

I love your "spunk" Sue :) ... yes, let's keep going.
Tomorrow I start a Spring challenge for 10 weeks, I am going to try and lose 20 pounds. Unfortunately I have gained about 17 pounds since the holidays so when I make my challenge goal I will be at a weight I haven't been at for a long time.
Here we go!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Me? #1 on SparkPoints? I have to go look at that again....

I love the new picture and quote Cookie, thanks for posting it.

I was just up to double digits for exercise days then had such a sleepy day Sunday, then yesterday was cold and rainy. I have got to go out there today and start the streak again!

Oh I noticed that our team has gone from #207 to something like #128. Good job Cookie!

My scale has been stuck between 152 and 155 for a few weeks now. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE those numbers! However, I would like to see a little more progress for my work. I was lazy during January but am doing much better. Please scale, be kind this Friday!

Note to self - stop sneaking on the scale in between weigh ins!

I have already finished my Coach Nicole for today. I'm going to putter and clean around the house. I say putter because it's makes housework more relaxed feeling to me, and I can choose to do things that I want to do rather than the usual "chores". Maybe I will choose to vacuum, who knows? I think I will clean out my closet. I need to make room for Jeff after we are married!

I decided I am going to trick myself into exercise. I set my calories at 1200-1500 and set the goals so that my exercise is added to my calories. That way, exercise might let me have a little extra snack at night.

Anything to get some motivation going!

I am happy with February so far. I'm on a 5 day exercise streak although I haven't started Coach Nicole yet, and my food tracking is improving greatly.

I keep thinking about the wedding, and am hoping for maybe a.....BIKINI.....for this summer. Yikes! That's a really scary thought.

I have decided to set some good goals for February. I've been very tired lately so I haven't been exercising. Or is it that I haven't been exercising so I don't have much energy. Either way, it's not good. I've decided to try once again to get all the way through Coach Nicole's 28 day boot camp. I am not going to worry about it if it takes more than 28 days. I think that was my downfall last time. I got behind and gave up. I'm not going to do that again!

I hope things are going well for everybody!

Hey everybody! I hope your new year is starting off great.

I have had great success with SparkPeople. Thank goodness I found it! I am getting married in 4 months, and since I've lost the weight I am actually excited about going dress shopping this afternoon. Clothes are so much easier to find now! What's really great is that instead of just finding something that is "OK" I can find things that look HOT!

I have been relaxing a little about my dieting because there are so many other things going on in my life, but it's not hurting me any. I think my good Spark habits have really kicked in.

I am looking forward to our 2 year anniversary. Anyone have any ideas for goals?

Hey everybody!

Exercise is still my struggle after all this time. I made a streak of 13 days but now am back to day 2. The weather is just not co-operating, we have had huge downpours and hot weather. Thankfully I love my Coach Nicole videos so I'll be doing that tonight.

Have a great day!

Thanks Cookie!

I set my goals in 10% increments. When I started I had no idea if I could even lose weight, and had no idea what I should shoot for. I knew the "healthy" number would be overwhelming and completely unrealistic to my obese and sedentary self, so instead I set a goal to lose 10%. I read an article or blog on here that mentioned it and I thought it sounded like a good idea. That worked very well for me. I set my goal for the next 10%, then I get to feel like I really accomplished something!

160 is my third time losing 10%. The good thing is each 10% is slightly smaller than the last one!

And you are right, obese sounds much worse than fat!

You are doing fantastic ... is 160 emoticon your goal? I had 160 as my goal too and thought I better bring it down to 159 ... lol. Congrats on being "overweight" ... sounds so funny to say. "Obese" emoticon is such an ugly word isn't it? Worse than fat to me.

Update to that last post: I am down 1.5 pounds this week! I guess persistency through the frustration pays off!

Oh AND......I am no longer obese! I finally hit the overweight range!

It's getting much harder to lose after a year of cutting back the calories. I don't want to eat at the bottom of my range all the time because I really love food, but if I eat near the top I just seem to maintain. Is anyone else at the point where you can't seem to lose as well?

Thank you so much for the compliments! You should take a look at my before pictures on my SparkPage, I am amazed at the difference. I didn't think I looked that bad before!

There is a slow cooker salsa chicken recipe that I love. It's so easy, makes a ton, is easy to freeze and can be served different ways. Jeff is trying recipes from the Spark cookbook I bought him for Christmas, it's been great!

I like to find recipes on this website because you can get your points for making it and track the calories just by clicking the links.

I hope everyone is still Sparking!

I am proud of myself. I wasn't going to walk at lunch but then talked to myself sternly in the mirror and said "It's only 10 friggin minutes!" and then I went. It actually turned into 20 so I'm very pleased.

Kimmie how is the bootcamp going?

Thanks Cookie!!

I was one of our class that kept at it and lost 30 lbs. More importantly, my lifestyle has completely changed. I make healthy decisions when it comes to food and I exercise at least three times a week. I could have never done this without the sparkpeople meal plan and all the valuable information contained in this site.

Just wanted to share ... have a great weekend, keep spreading the spark!

Well I live in Jamaica... its an outdoor bootcamp with a lot of body weight work and running. Just one hour / 4 mornings a week. Pretty intense but we have varied fitness levels in the class, so they group us for some activities based on speed/ strength so everyone gets pushed but not killed!!! emoticon
Its just May, June, July. June we start doing stadium stairs runs or hill sprints once a week and July we will incorporate weights. I still go to the gym and do my weighted squats though :D

So nice to hear you super sparkers pushing toward or reaching your goals! emoticon

I do get spark mail messages in reply to the message I sent out about our spark class from people who don't have spark pages but let us know they are still here. I will post a couple without posting their name (not sure they want that) but I thought that it would be nice for all of you to hear.

Hi all. I rarely post but thought I'd stop in and say we all rock!! I am miles from any goals but I feel great about what I am doing! Also thought I'd share something I've learned these last several weeks.... Strenuous hikes are a fun, muscle building way to exercise BUT I advise avoiding the scale for the first few weeks! I had been eating really well and doing 3 to 5 moderate to difficult trails a week (2 to 4 miles each) and I was SO discouraged when I gained 3 pounds and I couldn't figure out what the **** was up. I ended up putting my scale away and getting out my tape measure and I discovered that I had dropped almost 4 inches from my hips, thighs and waist in just a couple of weeks. YAY! Anyway the pounds have also started dropping now so I thought I'd share in case anyone was facing the same issue :) Good luck and have fun all!!!!!! emoticon

I am so happy I just have to share my news with the team. I set a goal a while back that for my 1 year Sparkversary I wanted to have lost 50 pounds. I only had a couple pounds to go at that time and thought it would be easy, but it's been a fight for every ounce. This morning I got on the scale and (insert drum roll here) I hit the 50! I was so excited! So a year on SparkPeople has really paid off. I am super motivated now!

Thank you Cookie for the idea to set that goal and push for it!

I have also set my next goal which is another 10% loss by my birthday in October. I've lost 22% of my body weight so now it's so much harder to lose weight. I want to give myself plenty of time.

I hope that all of you can reach your goals too!

Just saying hey to everyone. emoticon
How's everyone doing? Food-wise? Exercise-wise? Life-wise?
I've started eating well again, emoticon but I'm still pinching at left over birthday deserts. emoticon This week I gave a bunch to the kids in the apartment complex and last night I left some with my boyfriend, leaving me with only enough to pinch at until Saturday. May 1st I'll be back on track. LOL.
My friends and I are doing a hike on Saturday emoticon ... not any INTENSE exercise, but a relaxing nature climb long enough to get some endurance training and steep enough to get the legs working. Then we plant a tree at the top in the name of re-forestation. emoticon

Hope everyone is doing great. My mood is a bit *blah* which always makes me want BK. But I logged my breakfast calories and decided BK wasn't worth it.

I feel bad not checking in more often. I find when I start reading what's going on with everyone I end up spending more time than I meant to.

Kimmie, congratulations on reaching healthy! That is so great. I am still bordering on overweight/obese and can't seem to get over the line but I am not giving up. I'm still tracking within my ranges and slowly increasing my activity so it will come in it's own time. I am still way better off than I was!

Have a great weekend everybody.

Hey Kim ... that is great news about being in the healthy zone! I remember when I first calculated my BMI seeing that I was in the morbidly obese area was a sad shock. Those two words are so "shaming" to me :(

Anyway ... maybe it helped to kick my butt into gear!

Hey team! How's everyone going? Hope today is an awesome start to the week. My new focus is to get stronger, faster, up endurance and overall fitness, and fuel my body with nutritious food to help up my fitness. That way I won't get bogged down on the weight loss and the weight will disappear on its own. I'm in the healthy zone of the chart for the first time in my life... Like since I was 8 years old. I just want to get to the middle of "healthy" instead of sitting on the border of "overweight" and "healthy".

That's great Netsue64! I think it really helps to stay connected. I have started a streak ... nothing that I shouldn't be able to do but somedays I let my exercise lapse because it is easy to let go.
I just have three things in my "streak"

1. Drink 80 ounces of water a day
2. Track everything in the tracker
3. Do at least 10 minutes of planned exercise

Just some thoughts ... :)

Hey team! Fun challenges sounds great! Work is a stressful, boring challenge... with 12 to 15 hours in front of my laptop each day, its easier to get a veggie burger than prepare my home-made dal palak. Sigh. Not to mention the coffee and chocolate. Try make up for it on my morning workouts but we know here at SparkPeople, "You can't out-exercise bad nutrition!". Hope everyone's good.

Happy Friday Sparkers!

I hope everyone has had a good week … for me it has been a week of stress. I let stress emoticon get the better of me yesterday and broke my “change streak” … not terribly but it broke, will be starting anew today!

Kris, that is so neat about playing the music emoticon for your hubby. I saw a really neat thing yesterday on Facebook regarding cremation remains. There is a company that will take your ashes, mix them into a fertile soil, put them in a biodegradable container with a “seed” of any kind of tree you choose. You plant the entire thing and your ashes grow into a tree! I think that would be a good thing for my hubby and me. That is great that you are able to get out and garden, I am looking forward to doing some “tending”.

Kimmienez, congrats on making your sparkpage!! I agree with you about the music … with it I can do many tasks. Thanks for sharing with Kris what an ipod is, I LOVE mine! Way to go with the exercise, is that you with the costume on in your profile picture? You look like you are dancing? emoticon Whatever it is it looks like fun.

Netsue64, keep going with the smoking … you are doing better! emoticon Look how far you have come :) Did the patch thing not work or are they terribly expensive? You can do it emoticon step by step! I assume that the cigarettes are very expensive too? Maybe put the money in a jar that you save by not smoking one more each day? A visual may help? I know that many of us know the dangers of poor health … I know I have lots of family health history which aren’t helped by obesity. That is awesome that you walked 35 minutes!! That is fabulous progress … you rock! emoticon emoticon

I hope you all have a happy healthy weekend!

Spark on ~ Cookie

I walked at lunch for 35 minutes today. I was thinking about my progress since last year. When I started this, it was all I could do to talk myself into 10 min, and 20 min was like a marathon!

I hope that you DO manage to quit smoking. I used to smoke but not heavy and only for about 4 years. Still, it had a grip on me. I would try to stop but because where I worked sold the ciggies, it was far to easy to buy them. When I did give up I had absolutely no problem - I had incentive. I had lost my job, and with my holiday pay, I paid up my board for a few weeks in advance, and had just enough left over to feed my cats for a few weeks OR smoke. Because my cats were living; my pets (including a number of kittens); and needed feeding, and because I wasn't going to get rid of them, I chose my cats. NO problem with stopping after that.

I have read that the weights are important, thanks for reminding me Kimmienez.

Kris, I think it is so sweet that you play music for your husband. I would love it if someone did that for me. It's a fun way to remember him.

I was the one who quit smoking. I have not completely succeeded. I have a few a day now, far less than I did before. I ran out of the patches and couldn't handle it well. I am very disappointed in myself. I am trying to keep it down to about 6 a day and am succeeding with that which is bettter than 15-20 but still. It's not good. I will keep trying. I appreciate the information about your husband. I will add it to the reasons I am quitting.

Happy Wednesday!

@SlimmerKiwi, an ipod is an apple brand mp3 player... music saves many exercise-days :D. I had a massive crepe on Sunday filled with cheese and awesome other fattening things.... So now I'm having three days of cabbage soup. LOL. Whenever I have wheat I'm bloated for a few days so I know I shouldn't have had the crepe! My exercise is still going REALLY well and I started losing the pounds when I started incorporating real weight training. I now recommend weights to everyone!
Hope everyone has an awesome week!

O.K. - in my ignorance, what is an i-pod?

I have had a very quiet day today, other than I put one of The Rolling Stones tapes on for my husband. He absolutely used to idolize them, and now that I have his ashes and they are above the stereo, I occasionally play them for him. I always used to take them or leave them, but now they seem to be growing on me.

Today was a relatively cool day for the middle of summer. We are in the middle of a drought without any signs of rain coming our way. A lot of people are buying tanker loads of water in, but fortunately our water tanks are still nearly full.

Whoever it is who was quitting smoking, how is it going? That is probably the MOST significant thing that anyone can do for their health - even more so than weight-loss. My late husband was told after his first heart attack that THAT was the sole reason for it. He never had any other physical factors, and in fact, they were all really good. He tried to give up smoking but even with extensive counseling and help with patches, he couldn't manage it. He had a further 2 heart attacks before the final 4th one just before Xmas.

I managed to get a 1/2 hr pruning and general gardening in today. For me that is lots. Hopefully the fact that I have been doing little snatches like that quite regularly the last couple weeks, will help me maintain my weight, because I have been eating a tad more than normal this last couple months. Not a lot - but still, a little can make a big difference over time. I have a little friend (four-legged :-) lying beside me - snoring her head off. I hope that she does that tonight, too, rather than barking at various outside noises!

Yes I use an Ipod and I love it! The battery died halfway through my walk today or I would have walked longer. Oh well, tomorrow I will do it again.

Happy Valentines Day team!

Raining here too ... emoticon This morning it hadn't started yet and I thought it would shape up to be a good day but rain all day.

Netsue64, do you use an ipod? I love my little ipod for walking, makes me want to keep going! emoticon

I am disappointed today because it's raining and I wanted to play with my new walking playlist. I can't believe I'm disappointed that I have a reason not to walk!

Okay then, I think on my Sparkaversary I want to buy a new bathing suit and not be embarassed to wear it! My current goal is much longer, so I am going to set a new short term one, something like .5 loss every week until May 1. I think that's about 6 pounds. Wow can it be that soon? So I think I should try for 175 by May 1. And my prize will be a new bathing suit!

Thanks for trying to rally the troops Netsue64!! That is wonderful! I have been going through different areas of the team to try and "find" people who are still active ... out of the 12,000+ emoticon

I think that is a great idea to have everyone try to set some type of goal to hit by the One Year "Sparkaversary" week. I will set up a place to do that and try to send out a "Team" email. I am still learning what I can do so bear with me!

I am very excited to have more action on this team! I am going to check with my friend Darlene who I originally met on this team and who is still very active and see if I can get her to come back.

Thanks for taking up the reins Cookie. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better.

I am happy that I am back to 182. My lowest weight was 181 right before the holidays and have been up to 184.5. I really consider this a maintanence run. At least I know what my maintanence levels are.

I think maybe we should focus on the warm weather which is just around the corner. I would love to have to buy a new bathing suit because my old ones are too big! I really want to do more boating this summer, that would be awesome!

Well ... I don't want to come across as "I AM THE LEADER" ... lol, just wanted our Spark Class to keep going, what is left of it emoticon

Like I said ... I think that there are less than 1% of us left! emoticon I think that is really a bummer and unfortunately it is reality.

Thanks for sharing Kimmienez!

A new leader! Awesome! Well so far I know NetSue has the struggle of quitting smoking, which I know makes dieting harder. My challenge is staying within my calorie count while working at a desk for 12 hours. I'm good on the exercise side of things. Thanks Cookie! :D

Afternoon Ladies!

I thought I would pop in and say hello! I have been trying to catch up with any "remaining" Spark Class of ... and I tell you it isn't easy. It isn't easy because there aren't many of us left. emoticon

I was totally amazed when I started looking through the pages of our SP Class and out of the over 11,000 + people that started at SP the same week we did there are very few left that are active!

So consider yourselves emoticon and amazing people to have "stuck" with it. I am going to try to be more active on this team, in fact I applied to be a co-leader because I didn't know if the original people were still doing this and come to find out one is still a leader but the other isn't, so anyway I am going to try to put out some information on a weekly basis.

Is there anything in particular that you guys would want to focus on? Please let me know, ok? I hope that we can all help each other out and we will all succeed! emoticon

Sorry I left you alone for so long. You're right it looks like it's just us.

Congrats on the weight loss! That's so great, I'm very happy for you.

I have been staying within 2 to 3 pounds of my low weight since I quit smoking and just last week lowered my target calories slightly to see if maybe I can start losing slowly again.

The smoking is very off and on. My patches ran out and I am stressing bad at work so it's been tough but I'm still not smoking more than I am smoking and I'm not giving up. This is really hard!

Hey Netsue... looks like its just us! LOL. I have dropped the Christmas pounds plus more! I'm excited. Great that your'e not smoking! I've always heard weight loss and quitting smoking at the same time is hard. Have u taken off any of that 3.5lbs u added on last week? I hope so! I've recently started bulking up my lunch with frozen spinach. It helps keep me full, its economical and there are so many fun things to do with it. So far I've done crust-less quiche, dal palak and spinach omlets.

I am so sorry I haven't checked in for so long. I'm still not smoking yay! I've gained 3.5 pounds but am exercising more consistently.

I hope when you do weigh in you are pleasantly surprised!

Went for my lunch walk today. The sun is finally out for the first time in about a week!

I refused to weigh after Christmas... now overseas for work... so I'll weigh when I get back home on the 21st... I think I just managed to work off the fabulous carbs from Christmas day and the Baileys and Coffee Patron from New Years Day.. I over-indulged :(

I think my exercise problems might get a little bit better. I have found tap dancing again! There is a great website with lessons and my parents got me a tap board and it's been great the past couple evenings. It will really make me happy if this will solve some of my exercise problem!

I hope everyone has their plan in place for the new year. I'm just going to keep working my current plan. I'm not a big one for New Year's resolutions because I feel if you want to do something, why wait?

I have made it to day 24 of my quit, and I'm pretty sure I can do this. I've only gained 2 pounds and I think that was mostly due to holiday eating at my mom's, not the quit. A couple more months of maintenance and I should be good to cut down again!

Its been my first day online since Christmas Eve. #FAIL! My internet at home hasn't been working. Now that u're back home I'm sure you'll jump back into a healthier eating routine. My problem has been liquor... and its only going to get worse... dinner party today and then NYE and New Years Day. I've been exercising like a beast though :D

Hi Kimmienez!

Sorry to leave you all alone here! I went away for Christmas and didn't get on the computer, then when I did get back I only had time to track.

I went over I'm sure, even without tracking for a couple days. Cookies were everywhere and I was starving! We had to rely on what people served and there was a serious lack of fruit and veggies!

Anyway I'm back on track now and still working my quit. I'm on day 19 and have had 5 slips during that time, but I would have smoked about 285 cigarettes during that time so Woo Hoo!

TreeHugger! NetSue! Wots up? With all the season festivities, I have been anti-social on days I feel like I want to pig out and on good days I go out and say "no thanks" quite easily. Liquor getting me over my calorie limit though... How are you two doing?
Anyone else active in this SparkTeam? How are you maintaining discipline during the season?

WOW! I'm very impressed. Don't let the 2lbs get you down. Maybe you could try a fitness-challenge-NetSue-extravaganza for the weekend? (I dunno... throwing stuff out there). Next week I'm trying to fit in 10 spinning classes between Sunday coming and New Years Day cos I know I'm gonna be eating CAKE and drinking Baileys! LOL
