Hello everyone. o-o

As expected, this semester is really stresfful. I have no sleep. I have a really poor diet (meaning: high caffiene, high calorie, enough calorie with high fat or very low calories). I dont put it on the food diary anymore. I barely have time. I didn't have time for exercise since last week, unless you count walking around the community for hours. It's just...really stressful. I don't have any physiologic sickness but I really feel ill. All I'm thinking is, "Just three more weeks of duties, then this would be done." It's actually ironic that our (nursing students in my college) health is being compromised just to promote the health of other people.

Hi Liz and the class of April 22-18! Just stopping in to say hello!

Today was a great day. I got to spend a few hours with my nephew (two years old). He keeps me laughing and makes me feel young and carefree.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

How is everyone doing?
It is pretty quite around here!

I had a busy summer. Kids are back in school so things will be getting back into routine soon.

I am doing good. These last few pounds are always so hard to lose and keep off!

Wow! I stop keeping up with the group and everyone is making terrific progress. Fan-freakin-tastic!
I found a way to get paid for getting healthy--it's called Fit For Life/Corporate Health Challenge and it is a program my job hooked up with. I signed up at the end of July. The gist of it is that you earn points for healthy choices and fitness. Earn 100 points in 6 months and you get an extra $75 in your paycheck. That's up to $150 a year, and I can buy myself a great reward with that check. The way I see it, it's like having my own corporate sponsor and not having to wear any evil Nike brand products. I urge everyone to check with their jobs and see if they have a program like this, or if they have any sort of incentives available.

My ear infection is gone, my daughter had a fever (for no apparent reason) for 7 days....she is finally well again. She had her 4th birthday over the weekend. I took her down to Canby to see my in-laws and my teenagers. We had a great day.

I haven't tracked anything in quite a while, but I am doing very well with my water and walking. I hadn't been to Curves for a week, because Madison was home sick. . .but I made it there today.

I know that I do very well if I track everyday. Sometimes when life gets overwhelming between illnesses and term papers and ex husbands and, and, and, .....it is easier to drop my tracking. Some day I hope I have that Ah-ha moment that makes me choose me over others in regards to my health.

I hope everyone is having a great week. emoticon

TLSAINE- glad you saw the doctor and you're taking meds to have it heal faster. High five on getting to Curves. That shows your dedication, awesome!

NFSISTER- Sounds like you have a good plan in place. That's one thing about getting our workouts in, we have to switch them out every now and then. Especially, when we hit plateaus.

Today is my first day on SP after the "lighten up" competition at work. Since I started SP in preparation for it I am not too concerned with keeping up with it. In fact, I think I was more serious about getting real exercise this week than I have been. No more counting shopping or walking around the playground as exercise. Now it's real walks on my break and exercise videos.

SEASONS_CHANGE - thanks, I did see a doctor for my ear infection. I had to wait two days after the appt for my insurance to approve the prescription of ear drops. I am on day two. They make me a little dizzy for about an hour after I use them.

I made it to Curves today. It wasn't a strong workout, but it was better than sitting at home.

I was really looking forward to getting home tonight so instead of walking of 1 mile on my lunch break I walked 2. Faster than I expected too. I no longer walk a 20 min mile, it's now closer to 17.

Grr, I hate being sick. Ear infection is worse than yesterday. However, I think the exercise that I have been doing is helping me feel better overall. I am not tired or anything. My body feels great, just my ear is horrible.

Survived my first day back at work after my long weekend. One of the ladies asked if I was losing weight. I think it's just because I was wearing a shirt that fits instead of baggy.

Remind me to go with my first instinct with my husband. I told him about the apartment inspection tomorrow and he's wanting to make sure it's spotless. It's not bad, just needs to be vacuumed. He's very judgmental so he always thinks he's being judged.

NFSISTER - you can do it! Grab your cell phone or watch. Set a timer for 5 minutes and go for a walk. when that 5 minutes is up, turn around and come home. Chances are, you will keep going. But even if you dont.....you still finished your goal of 10 mins for your walk.

I don't think I'm going to weigh in this week. I haven't been eating too bad (I don't think), but I feel out of control when I'm not cooking. I stuck to salads and grilled chicken most of the time, except for the GF pizza that really wasn't worth it. I've gotten some exercise in, but not even close to my norm. I'll be back home in a few hours so I can get back to my routine tomorrow.

I weighed again this AM......just because. Down 4 lbs! I am invigorated. I am heading out for my walk before it gets hot outside. My little girl is so happy to go on a walk. It has been awhile. She sings to me to keep me going from inside her stroller.

Hi everyone,

I have been playing in another SparkTeam and have neglected you all.....I am sorry, I love the support that I get here.

My weight fluctuated toward the wrong end because I asked my 17 year old to make a lemon cheese cake for me. She makes many different kinds....I have never asked for a special kind. We all shared it over the 4th of july. My three pieces spread out over only 24 hours was my undoing, however, I kept all other areas of my eating in check. It was a nice treat.

I measured for the first time since April. I am down 8 inches in my waist and hips. So happy. I stopped exercising for a while. I am on day 4 of consecutive exercise again.

Good luck with this week everyone! emoticon emoticon

The scale is slowly moving down again:)

I leave for Michigan tomorrow via carferry. I love the ship and have ridden many times, however this time it's harder. Coolers are now banned so it's difficult to find food to take that doesn't require refrigeration. They have food to purchase on board and have made it healthier, but the gluten free aspect is complicating it.

Other than that life in general is getting to me, but hopefully getting back home will help.

Hi

Been a funny week, staying in at my daughters while her hubby is away working, there is more temptation around. My husband turned 65 we had 2 celebrations for him, which included some wine. And a very close friend son who is only 33 has melanoma and has been in hospital this week. Very distressing. So my aim for this week is not to have gained, which I hope to achieve and when I get home today to have a better week, getting back to my walks and eating plan. But feel when stuff is happening and I am off focus if I can stay the same that is an achievement in itself

Hello hello. I hope evveryone's doing fine ^^
I seem to have dramatically decreased my appetite for rice. O;
It's my country's staple food so it's a bit hard for me to find meals that don't serve rice. x.x
I haven't really logged my food lately but last time I stepped on the scale there was no ups nor downs. So I don't know...

NFSISTER- I was wondering the same thing too. I think a lot of folks on the team may be out of town on vacation.

ANDI3307- First of all, congratulations on quit smoking. Not an easy task to achieve; but you did it! I think the calorie intake that shows is based on the exercise that you have planned. If you're a beginner, you want to make sure that your logging the fitness activity correctly. For example, if you workout to a Tae Bo DVD; which is considered a high aerobic activity, the nutrition tracker will change based on your fitness activity. Being a beginner, more than likely you're not able to do the exercises to the extreme and may have to go at a slower pace or stop to take mini-breaks throughout. You do have the option to manually change your daily caloric intake instead of letting Spark decide it for you. Since I'm in the weight loss mode, I changed my calorie allowance to be between 1200 and 1500 calories a day. You can change this setting by following the steps below:

1. Go to your "Nutrition Tracker."
2. Below the Date, you will see a drop-down box icon that reads "Tracker Options."
3. Hover your cursor over this icon and click on the "Change Diet Settings."
4. Next to the "Consume ( ) to ( ) Calories per day" click on the EDIT icon and make any changes that you wish to make and click on the SAVE icon to return to the previous page.

To help determine how many calories you need to consume, please read the information at the link below:

Hi there. Hope your holiday weekend is going well too. I started with Weight Watchers online and switched to Spark. When I started I weighed 152 and just wanted to loose the few pounds I gained after I quit smoking. I have never ate so much (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) like you're supposed to and it is backfiring with me because I am now 159 pounds and counting. It seems every time I get on the scale it keeps on going up? I am getting my appetite under control (finally) and eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies, but alas, I keep gaining. I do cardio about 30 min. a day (switching it up between aerobics, strength training, balance stabilization and stretching). That feels real good and gives me more energy. Do you think perhaps my body's chemistry is changing? Any idea's? emoticon I'd really like to reach my goal of 140 #'s. Thanks and again, have a great weekend. Diane Anderson

Thankyou o3o

Poopers. I got a low quiz score. Depressed. Ate a 160cal chocolate bar and worked out for about an hour or less. :\ Oh well...

CHOCOFFEE, I'm not sure what the calorie content of the roasted pork. I think it would depend on how it was cooked. I found the link below that may be helpful. If you cooked it in a different way, maybe you can cook it the way that it's mentioned in the article:

NFSISTER: Congratulations on the 10lb weight loss. I've not had such a great week so I'm not even bothering jumping up on the scale this week. lol

I think I'm losing pounds but not inches. I never did pre measurements so I don't have a base, but may start now anyway. Still the same size even though I've lost 10 pounds.

All these sleepless nights are making my food cravings go loco :(
Can't even be bothered to exercise because I'd rather sleep the extra minutes off.
Plus I haven't stepped on the scale for a while since I tend to forget to do it in the morning. I probably gained some (or a lot?) though. Gaaaah. Hope not.
Ermm...Does anyone know the calories to "Roasted Pork Belly" without the obviously fat part? I cant find one. T^T I know it's high though :\

LOVE to see those results in all of your hardwork!

I too am losing inches but NO pounds! I know it can be frustrating when you really want to see that scale move! Keep up the great work!!

Thanks so much for your well wishes and guess what....?!

The scale moved, the scale moved! And in the right direction! After 3 LONG weeks it went down one and a half pounds. Whew! Thank goodness. That scale not moving was really starting to affect my head, negatively. Now there's progress again! Let's see if I can take that and run (actually walk) with it.

How's everyone else?

That's great that you've lost a size! The scale is moving, but I'm still the same size. I can't wait to go down a size - or two.

OPHELIA- don't freak about the scale. Obviously, you are making progress if you lost a size! emoticon
Sometimes the scale stalls while the inches change because you are building muscle and losing fat at the same time. Muscle weighs more, and is more compact then fat so you end up with those kind of readings. Just keep plugging along......

Didn't have a very good day yesterday. Didn't feel well at all but couldn't put my finger on what was wrong. Missed my scheduled workout. Bummer. Now have lost two days this week of exercise.

And, the scale refuses to budge! I've been at the same weight for 3 weeks! Drat! If I didn't have my clothes to tell me (went down a size this month), I'd be totally bummed. Hopefully the scale will reflect this downward progress soon.

And, my week has been awful from a calorie standpoint. Only stayed below my range one lousy day. At least I can say I've been eating more healthy, just need to cut it back more apparently. And that probably isn't going to happen tomorrow since that's Father's Day. Oh well, enough of my woe is me. I'll enjoy tomorrow (without being too out of line) and begin again on Monday.

Hope everyone else is fairing better!

Keep on Sparkin'!

For the most part I feel a lot better. There are still a few things I have trouble eating, like almonds and carrots, which give support to the celiac theory. My asthma is better - I don't freak out if I leave the house without my inhaler since I'm not wheezing everyday.

NFSISTER- How have you been feeling since you've been on your new health and fitness journey? Still having the same stomach problems?

Actually, this is a good question for the whole team. Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanks for the input. Made it through tonight's get together. What an eye-opener. My advice to anyone trying to eat healthier, food allergies or not, is to take something whenever you go to a social gathering with food. Too many temptations and too easy to come up with excuses to cheat.

Thanks AVAROSE12 for your post; and you're right. Foods closer to nature are absolutely better and all of the change you want to make doesn't happen overnight. We have to keep at it and tweak our program whenever necessary.

Hi

It is always a challenge when you are gf I have just learnt like you to take something I can eat and always carry a gf bar and fruit in my handbag. Which gives to something for dessert. I also don't eat any food with no's ie processed food. The closer to nature the better. And it sure helps me with my medical conditions. Some people can be so insensitive. I am slowly getting the places I dine out to change. But it doesn't happen overnight that is for sure. Have a great day

Sorry to hear that you've had a stressful day. Since they're not cooperating in letting you know what's on the menu, you're being proactive in taking a dish that you know will be gluten free. Since I haven't experienced this myself, I recommend that you create a new topic in the "Diet and Nutrition Forum" for some pointers. The link to this forum can be found at the link below:

By the way, glad that the kitties are loving the new yummy foods that you're making.

Today was probably the hardest it has been for me to "just say no" to junk food. Even junk I don't like, like chocolate chip cookie bars. Too much time with people wears me out and this is definitely one of those times. I would say I'm ready for the weekend, but this weekend I have to deal with the in-laws, more specifically mom and sister in-law. We are just from two different worlds and it is always a horribly stressful time for me. Now with the added stress of not eating gluten and going to a cookout at their place is stressing me out. I'm trying to find out what they are serving so I can research it to see the stats and if it's gluten free, but getting nowhere. I plan on taking an SP coleslaw type salad so I know one thing I can eat. This week I am ready for summer to be over, except then I have to deal with the holidays.

On a positive, I guess, my cats like my new cooking habits. One is loving the fresh meat and the other was eating my sweet potatoes. Goofy furkids!

CHOCOFFEE, good luck with your classes and glad that you're still going to do your cardio. Instead of throwing in the towel on what you'll be eating, you can always try to make healthier choices along the way.

Classes officially started today and Im officially back to my not so good eating choices.
I'm still going to do my cardio tho. I'm not expecting to lose any weight for a while during my adjustment period but I hope I wouldn't gain a lot. :\ *crosses fingers*

NFSISTER: Follow the steps below to change your Spark Page background to a picture you have already saved on your computer:

1. Go to your Spark Page.
2. Click on "Edit my Spark Page."
3. You will see an icon at the top that reads "Upload a Background Image." Click on it.
4. A pop-up box will appear for you to browse your compouter to locate the picture that you want to use for your background.

Note: Depending on the colors of your background picture, you may want to tweek the text colors to contrast the picture.

5. If you need to change the color of the forefront of your Spark Page, Click on the icon that reads "Select a page background color."
6. Next, click on a spot on the circle of colors to choose the best color that will look good with your new background picture.
7. Next, click on the icon that reads "Select a Text color." This one is important as you want to make sure that the text can be seen for those members who will be commenting on your page. If you have a dark background, you will want to choose a brighter Text color. You can change the color in the same way by clicking on the color circle.
8. Finally, when you're happy with the changes, click on the "Save Your Changes" icon.

Presto! You have a cool, personalized Spark Page.

Tomorrow will be my first big test with eating healthy with little control over my food. I checked the menu and will most likely stick with a salad. I have some snacks ready and my breakfast planned.

Completely unrelated, but how do you change the background on your spark page? I can change colors, but can't figure out how to add a picture.

Thanks Hawaii5years and seasons_change!
The food was absolutely fabulous! I tried some shrimp etouffee and some creole chicken. I loved them both. I must have chosen okay because I didn't gain any weight after the splurge :) My entire family loved it so much the restaurant may be our new favorite.
