Wow 52 pounds gone - You are doing absolutely great.
Glad you were able to sell your house. Post when you can. It is so good to know there are still some of us on here from March 2012 emoticon

At the end of the day, be able to look back and say "I did my best today."

Love the potatoes! I never saw potatoes in the ground until one year we went to potato digging at a free Fall event in MN and got to dig our own to take home. My kids loved it! My life has gotten super busy and crazy happy lately...haven't been on too much...my house sold last week. Packing now, moving back to MN. I'm very happy & excited! I knew I wanted and needed to go back 6 months ago and kind of got stuck here in FL a lot longer than I ever intended. I've been struggling with exercise and water though...still losing, but slowly...I hit 52 pounds lost since I started in March 2012...slow, but so much better off that I was before I started. Hope you all are well! I'm still here, even if not on as much!

Good for you. Got that new client. That's progress.

Also isn't it great that you are doing well with food. I have slipped back into some of my old habits and need to tackle them again. Trying to cut out junk food again. One thing at a time.

Yes the weather is much cooler now. The temperature dropped about 10 degrees in the past 2 days. Jacket time now.

We just finished getting our potatoes out of the ground so now we have to till it up again, cover the garden area with sea weed and leave it until next spring. Seems like the summer went so fast even if it was a hot hot one.

Oh yes, I got the new client from my meeting last week and I'm happy with it and I have a meeting on Wednesday for another that could be steady work...the thing is I spent years to get my degree and I want to work in my field and miss it, but that's where nothing is happening...{sigh}...I like Diana Nyad's mantra of "Find a way"...I've completely redone my CV this week and I'm looking at baby steps to keep working on parts of where I want to get to, even if the whole thing isn't happening right now and who knows, maybe I need the lessons of how to be resilient and think outside the norm to get what I want so that I'll see opportunity coming up that I otherwise might have overlooked.

Healthwise, food has been much better and I haven't been eating too much junk this week. I'm still running a few pounds up from the lowest weight, I'm slowly losing that and not gaining. I feel like I was stuck and frozen for a few weeks and I'm slowly thawing out...food comes into line, I'm back to tracking food and measuring and checking vitamins...weighing daily again...adding back more activity during the day...

How are you doing? My Minnesota friends tell me Fall has come up North and I'm so jealous because it's still hot and humid here with no hint of Fall.

Sorry to hear about the "no". I too have trouble with rejections? like that and it has led me to aim lower than I should have.
It's good that you still have your own contracts and even getting new clients. That should definitely boost your morale.

I really hope you can find the job you are seeking.

Please let us know how things are going.

Well, I heard back from the second job quickly, it was a "no", but I took it hard so yesterday wasn't a great day. Not because they don't have any work of any kind right now, but more that I've gotten a lot of "no's" lately and it is starting to effect my self-esteem even though it probably shouldn't and I doubt it has anything to do with me personally.

How can I learn to be more resilient about these things? The other I won't know anything for a bit since it isn't officially an opening yet...in the meantime I'm working on my own business contracts and getting some new clients...

Hope this note finds you both doing well!

This sounds like a promising lead at least. I hope you can find a job in your field and perhaps the benefits mentioned would make up for some lost salary?

Breakfast turned on the spot job interview this morning emoticon I met with my college mentor and old boss from a decade ago...in the hopes she'd know of a local teaching or education-related job and she did, she knew of two that "aren't on the books" yet that are coming up in the next month or two...and ended up talking (ie interviewing me) about one that was in her area...for the other I'm to show up with CV in hand and talk with another of my old bosses from my college days. In the meantime she asked if I'd come in as a volunteer to teach a workshop...mostly so she could show me off to the faculty and they could see me teach and meet me now, vs. college days...so no money there, but worth my time just to renew the connection with my old mentor...plus I believe in giving back!

The only thing is *her* job is at least 5K-8K below my minimum and the range is firm...but she said the benefits are excellent and I'd be there to apply for bigger things as they come along...that part is SO hard...but she'd be there helping me with academic articles which is what I'm lacking right now...

I wonder how people make these types of decisions!

It's a hard thing to do sometimes - to keep going when it is such a struggle. But to not keep on is worse than not.

Let's hope that September is a better month. Maybe it will be a little cooler which I am hoping will help me get back to the battle of walking and consistent exercise.

Best wishes to you.

if I would control the eating of junk food a bit better I would be a lot further ahead.
I'm in the 250 area right now and I'm inching toward the 240ville area but so slowly.

I know one thing, the 250ville is a lot better than the 310ville where I did reside for a long time.

All we can do is keep on keepin' on.

Any month when there is not a big gain is a good month for me. emoticon

Let's head for the 240's starting today................... Might be a long journey but eventually I'll get there.

Best wishes on your journey

Thank you for the congrats, I'm very motivated! Yesterday I was thankful that I've been staying well in the middle of my calorie range so when I ate two icecream sandwiches (total emotional eating) I was happy to see I wasn't actually over my calories from it. I've been keeping a pretty clean kitchen (not a lot of junk foods) but those came in "for the kids"...good thing they did eat most of them!

I can't wait for the next few days because as long as I stick with it, I'll be back into 250-ville. I know, so far to go to goal, but emotionally 250 feels so much better than over 250. Kind of like 225 is so much further away from 300...it's mental, I know.

How are you doing?

Just catching up to these posts so a bit late on congratulating you on 30 lbs lost.

the dance lessons sound fabulous. I wish I were close enough to some town or city to find dance lessons. I can do the twist but would like to learn to do the jive, the jitterbug or square dancing. Lots of movement in those.
I have tried to teach my grand children to do the twist but Elizabeth, the one who is 15 years old said "Grammie, that is so weird." I had a good laugh about that.

Anyway congratulations again on the weight loss, the dance lessons and even better recognizing that "me" money is important. emoticon

I'm trying to add a little jogging (I can't even call it running at this point) to my walking. I've been stuck again the past few weeks so maybe that will shake things up. I like the idea of rewarding yourself with a dance class. I just got the Fall Park & Rec activity guide for my city. I'm working up the nerve to try a new fitness activity.

I'm very happy this morning! If I wasn't motivated to continue on with my running/walking intervals, I am now! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I got my 30 pounds down trophy today & also completed my 10% body weight reduction goal (plus an extra pound) emoticon . Two more pounds until I'm out of 260-ville and back into 250-ville!

Also, I have my program set for a reward ($50) at 260. I did some editing on my Uncle's book and he sent me a cashier's check (I did it just to be nice, I didn't expect money) which I've saved cashing until I get there and it was a big deal for me to decide not to just use it on bills and to keep it as "me" money for my weight reduction award. I've been thinking...I think I'm going to spend it on dance lessons! I found a place locally that offers 45 minute group lessons for $10 a lesson and you can pay as you go. I already have dance shoes :) I think 5 lessons is a great pay off for $50 and it also works on one of my goals that has been on my Spark page since the beginning!

I thank you as well, Kristina, for being the team leader. It's certainly not an easy chore to keep up with all the posts and threads on a team.
I know I can't take on any more here as team leader - doing 2 now and it can be overwhelming.

So glad to know that you are still here though. Sometimes it seems like many of the folks that joined when we did have left but maybe they are just not active on this team.

I wish you much continued success on this amazing journey.

Hi, I'm stepping down as a team leader of this team, I've messaged someone to see if she'd like to do it and if she accepts it will take me off the leader list. The other team lead is inactive. If either of you are interested in being a co-leader, let me know and I will add you. You'd only need to keep the boards current.

For myself, I'm stepping down as leader of this and another team...I need to only do on Spark what helps me stay on track and the boards used to do that, but right now I'm not keeping up with it.

Thank you both for your thoughts and encouragement. Like you say, it's not necessarily about losing weight, it's about all the healthy choices we make each day, and the long-term benefit. And I like the idea about opening doors! I've recently started a swim class...I'm hoping to work up to being able to swim laps. Who knows what's next?!

emoticon I've had to learn (and am still learning) what motivates me! Sure the scale moving down is a great motivator, but there has to be something else to sustain me when it isn't moving...otherwise I'm just losing the same 10 pounds over and over again...go...lose...stop when it isn't fast enough or enough progress...eventually go again. I had to get out of that cycle.

Competition with others doesn't motivate me, never has, but right now...tracking my own progress and fitness gains does motivate me to do more. I love tracking miles over time, setting goals...creating lists of things to try, fears to conquer...anything to create opportunity for success and growth outside of the scale. Also, I stopped accepting what I always thought I liked or disliked since--forever. This opened the door to try things again as an adult, in a new place, with different people...it makes a difference, those open doors.

I've thought I hated and despised running since I was a little kid in gym class. I thought I couldn't do it. I thought I'd get a terrible stitch in my side or throw up or something. I thought my knees and ankles or back or whatever couldn't do it, especially at this weight. I thought I don't have the right running shoes or clothes or whatever. Well, I opened the door a tiny crack to just be willing to try to run...a little bit...and you know, a whole lot of help from others in online running clubs came rushing in, a ton of support and acceptance from experienced runners and other beginners at every age and weight with all kinds of physical challenges they've worked through. Nobody ever said I couldn't do it. I still psych myself out, I'm walking and warmed up and it is time to run a little and I'm back to the litany of I can't do it, I could get hurt, PEOPLE WILL LOOK AT ME etc...but then I run anyway, even if it is just half a block or so...then I walk until I'm not out of breath and go again...the DURING is kind of like I don't want to fall, slip, get hit by a car etc...you have to be fully present, but the AFTER makes it all worth it. I feel SO GOOD, so accomplished, sweaty, but super energetic and the stress has just melted right off of me!

If I can do it, emoticon

Well that's a great way to look at things. We still have 10 days in July. 10 days to exercise. 10 days to eat healthy. 10 days to encourage, read, spark, and enjoy life.

I am going to finish the month in a better fashion than I started.

Thank you both for these posts. I feel much more positive now.

At the end of the day, be able to look back and say "I did my best today."

Yes, I agree it is harder in the summer with the kids out of school & harder when we get stressed out! But- it can be done! My goal was a 10 pound loss for the month of July. Right now I'm bouncing between two and five down. I looked at last week's exercise and calories and figured out what was going on with me emotionally by blogging daily (either privately in my planner or publically on my page). It helps me see all the little changes, struggles and milestones in a visual way- I can see my own patterns better over time this way.

Anyway, there are still 10 days left in July so we can all finish strong despite challenges! Make a ten day commitment with me to 10 days of eating within range and 10 days of no excuses exercise each day! I promise exercise will help relieve stress and you can bring the kids for walks, swims or bike rides...anything to get moving!

I mapped out a neighborhood loop that is 1.06 miles from my front door back to my front door...my three year old does this loop with me without a problem...and it tires her out nicely so she's more likely to nap in the afternoon. My 10 year old bikes or scooters or runs circles up and down and around us, but both are very happy with the time spent with them. We've been able to even do this walk in the heat since it only takes about 25 minutes walking pretty slow to accommodate little feet. This kind of walking itself doesn't burn too many calories, but it seems once I'm up and moving I keep going and do other active things in the day.

I thought I might make a breakthrough this month, but so far, I'm only down one pound. It's hard to maintain healthy eating habits and exercise patterns when the kids are out of school, and we are in our "fun" summer mode. But part of it is I need to prioritize better, too. I also enjoy reading the other posts. I like the support and it makes me a little more accountable. I hope you all have a great day tomorrow and finish the month strong!

July has been an up and down month for me. I was having a few ups and downs in my relationship with my daughter and stress levels went up, sleep = interrupted so I ate much more than normal. Now things are working out and hopefully I can get manage the stress better.

Isn't it strange that no matter how old our children get we still must answer their cries for help.

Anyway I continue to spark some each day. I continue to read posts and find great encouragement from fellow Sparkers.

I hope you are doing well this month.

Congratulations Kristina for doing the 13.1
I too take other peoples words to heart and unkind words do hurt. But you should be so proud of yourself for what you accomplished.
Pat yourself on the back. Give yourself a goodie.
You have accomplished a goal that is challenging to say the least.

Good for you, Kristina!! That many miles in three days is awesome! You should feel proud of yourself. Ignore the nasty bystander. Those kind of comments do hurt, but he probably was drunk or who knows what. The important thing is you made a promise to yourself to do this and you did, even though it was really challenging. The best part of this SP Journey has been those moments where I challenge myself, or like you said, do something different, and it sounds like this was true for you, too. Good for you for not giving up!

I finished!!! 13.1 miles done! And....I RAN the end! You have NO idea! I can't believe I ran the end! I know it was a "virtual" marathon, but for me to walk (and run a little) 13.1 miles in 3 days was a big deal. The 8.33 miles from day 2 was the longest I can remember walking at one time since high school! I learned a lot...like I need more water...a better bra...oh, yeah...and that I can do whatever I set my mind to and that it doesn't matter if anyone else thinks it is worthwhile...I'm my own biggest cheerleader when I choose to be.

On day 2 I cried, seriously, as I'm walking I'm crying and feeling sorry for myself because couples are strolling past me with ease and I'm struggling and ladies are speeding on though chatting with their friends like it's nothing... A man made a nasty comment on the beach because I had knee length pants and shoes on and headphones...and I'm sensitive so it followed me for miles...he was probably drunk, but I take things personal, but then I looked around...there were tons of people on the beach, standing around, standing in the water, playing in the sand or taking pictures...they weren't being physical, just relaxing...there was only me and two big muscle guys jogging or beach walking in all of 8.33 miles doing anything resembling exercise.

So I asked myself, is HE walking more than 5 hours tonight? I completed this at 265 pounds and I think that is pretty damn good. And you know what, despite being super sore in my calves after day 2, I still swam my laps in the pool the next day and today I swam my laps in the pool and then finished my last 1.13 miles and RAN the end!

I can't say enough, this isn't about me and how "good" I am (why I'm sharing my experience here), but about how hard it really is for me, but I made a different decision than EVER before, I just decided to do it NO MATTER WHAT and to KEEP GOING despite it being hard.

Thank you Running Mad 2013! I have 1.13 miles left to finish my virtual half marathon. I walked 8.33 miles last night across three different beaches! It was crazy. It was wonderful. The end was very hard. My calves are sore today and I didn't get enough sleep since I got home so late and my daughter still gets up early even if I don't want to, but it was worth it! Oh & bonus, the scale definitely reflected all my exercise this week with 3 more pounds gone forever! emoticon

OK, now you've inspired me, too. I am going to walk after dinner tonight. The fog is starting to come over the hill, but like you said, I won't melt! :)

What a great idea to go 13.1 miles but not have to do it all in one day. That would be an achievable goal for me.

I imagine it was a beautiful walk in the rain/mist/cloudy sky time of evening. Just think what you would have missed if you had decided to stay in.

Hope you enjoy your walk again today.

Last night I walked a 3.86 mile loop on the beach at night. It was amazing. It was stormy & drizzling at first...no stars...heat lightning with dark broody clouds and the moon illuminating them from behind and a bit of a breeze to chase away the 99 degree day we had. Across the bay it was pouring down. I was in the middle of the city and had the whole beach to myself! Good music to go with my walk too...Oasis Masterplan, Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall...Adele Set Fire to the Rain, Rolling in the Deep...so many songs that went with the weather and the mood outside!

I almost didn't go because of the rain, then I decided I wouldn't melt and went anyway.

I'm doing Running Mad 2013 virtual half marathon right now with a free club called Moms RUN this Town. 13.1 miles, but not all in one day and you can walk or jog or run...so long as it isn't a treadmill or elliptical. 9.24 miles to go emoticon I'm going to go again tonight!

It certainly is great to know other folks are celebrating their first year anniversary here on SP.
It was the best thing I could have done for myself - joining SP.

I have lost 30 lbs and I think I could have lost more if I had been more diligent. but when I lifted a 14kg of dog food the other day and realized that was how much weight I had lost in the past year I said "WELL DONE, SELF."
I didn't realize how much 30 lbs was until I picked up that big bag of dog food and carried it a few feet. Wow. No wonder I feel lighter on my feet these days. emoticon

Anyway I hope to continue on with Spark People and when I reach my second anniversary I want to see 2 big bags of dog food sitting on the floor to represent my weight loss.

It's been a great year for me and I hope it's been a great year for all the folks that joined last year around this time.

Let's keep on going and sparking.

That's awesome 4KWALK! I'm glad to hear about how many different ways you've found to be more active! Those of us that are still here on SparkPeople from this team are all coming up on being here 1 year!

I've maintained between a 15-20 pound loss and I wish it was so much more, but in the big picture, without SparkPeople over that same time I might have gained even more. I'm just going to keep working on it.

Hi everyone,
It's great to see there are still some of us here from the class of Mar. 18-24, 2012
Looking back I can see I haven't lost a lot of weight - about 22 lbs but I have dropped two pant sizes which I am soooo happy about. I can now fit in regular sized clothes and don't have to go to the plus section.
The thing that seems to help me the most is the strength training videos here on spark people. I use the short videos for upper body, core and lower body so I get a complete workout in about 30 minutes.
I feel strong and my arms are looking good - more muscle and less flab. I also feel more energetic and am enjoying each new day that comes along.
I am now also enjoying riding my bike, bowling, carpet bowling and walking. Next week I am going to learn how to do nordic pole walking.

I am really looking forward to the days ahead using Spark People and I am certainly working on my long term goal of losing 50 lbs by March 23, 2013.

It's great to see this topic about daily reflection. It's nice to stop, look back and see the successes. If I mess up I learn from my mistakes and try to do differently the next time.

Hope you all have a wonderful week.

I noticed that I eat just fine on good days and overeat on bad days...so dealing with emotions or negativity/stress is my biggest trigger and challenge!

Hmmm...I've been tracking my food everyday and I actually looked back at a few days this morning...um...yeah. I learned, I'm not drinking water, like 1 glass or 2 a day! No, what happened to the water? It looks like in general I'm not drinking enough liquid at all which might be why I'm overeating, but a lot of the water was replaced by watered down sweet tea. Must be because I've come back to Florida after 6 years because that is an extremely old habit for me and not one I've had for many years. So, that has got to go! I also learned that I can't have icecream in the house at all because I will eat it when I get stressed or over tired.

It's been another good week. I stayed within calorie range all week (so far anyways) I've walked every day and did the bootcamp videos every day (today was 6 minutes of burn!).

I am already feeling stronger. My only issue is that my knee is bothering me a lot I have to keep the impact to a minimum and have stopped wogging for now. I now only walk briskly and stretch. But, there are issues. I may have to come up with a different exercise solution.

Have a great weekend!

This would be more like a weekly reflection for me. I lost another pound. Yea. I'm down a total of 11lbs since joining Spark. I decided to join the 4 week boot camp challenge to switch things up a bit and hopefully get stronger.

I stayed on track all week pretty well. Walked every day without fail. Drank my water. So I'm happy with that. I'm doing the finishing touches to my meal planning for this week and then grocery shopping. I plan on having a good week.

My best news though? I realized this morning that I am only 10lbs from being considered at a healthy weight. 10lbs. Top of the healthy BMI but what of it? 10lbs. That is so doable, maybe even by my 50th birthday which is 54 days away. That is my next mini goal. 10lbs

I love this idea, Malinda. I have made it a "sticky topic" so it will always stay on the top of the General discussion forum.

I will join you in the daily reflection -- I need that "look back" on a regular basis.

My reflections will probably be in the morning since I have more "quiet" then. After a full week of being 100% on program, I took my kids to a fast food place and ate 1-1/2 breakfast burritos. Not the end of the world but now I know, I have to stay away from that place!

hello everyone,

so i almost fill as if i am starting over on sp. i began march 21st, 2012; over easter weekend i "gave up". i was sad and even gained back 2.5 lbs! (keep in mind my wkly goal is 2lbs) so for my self in the past i would write down what i ate that day NO CHEATING EITHER (you only lie to ur self if, u dont write everything ) but that only lasted so long. while this time when i got serious i used sp to help me; deciding i like i can use the site from my home on my time! unlike other programs ive tried in the past. anyways my point being ive noticed we together chat as a community, i wanna start a daily reflections or weekly if that is your preference even as often as ud like is fine! i will try to get back to everyone asap. i work 2 jobs but have no kids so i will try to get back asap! other please fill free to respond to piers as well. i myself will also be typing as many entries as i can. LETS ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER TO STAY MOTIVATED! and lets change something like "giving up" into something as simple as i had a few "cheat days" but need to get back on track! thanks everyone together we can do this!!!!

"i WILL do this because i CAN do this!!!!"
