Took a long fast walk in Inverleith park, I just love cities that have so many parks, it's absolutely lovely!
Aslo did the 17 min barre work out for arms on SP, really great way to tone up these flabby arms!

Pulled a muscle, ouch, when they tell you to properly warm up...
Going to Poitiers tomorrow, Capes exam on thursday and Friday. feeling ok about it, as with all National exams there are so little chances of making it that I won't even sweat it.
ordered a new pair of running shoes, it's nice to see how beat up the others are, some work had been done!

I'm still on Spark. Haven't been able to establish a consistent exercise program, but I have established a good nutrition regimen. Gained over the holidays, again, but half of it is gone. Yay.

Hot and humid here, too, but I walk every evening and am a big sweatball when I get home.
Not enjoyable at all! But the dip in the pool is fabulous.

Gardening...hah! The weather is not cooperating with me either. I bring in about 40 plants every fall and put them in our sunroom. Some how I managed to bring in three tree frogs last year, so we have been picking up frog poop all winter. I walked into my bathroom 3 weeks ago and one of the frogs was sitting on the floor saying, "hello". Well, that was enough... outside he went, freeze warnings or not. All his peeping friends had been making noise for at least a month, so I trust he will be alright. Then I found one under our piano and out he went. As far as I know, we have one left in a hanging planter and today he will get his freedom. That has been the extent of my gardening so far! I am trying to find that committment to exersizing everyday...wonder where it went?

HI PEGJW111, how is gardening working for you?
Here it's rain cold and more rain so I haven't had the heart to do it yet!
I am keeping steady with walk/jog three times a week and started swimming again. I have lost one KG so far and very happy about that.
Keep sparking!

Welcome back, Shoopette! I'm still here everyday. Gained 4 or 5 pounds over Christmas and am concentrating on tracking food. With gardening season starting, I should be able to lose that 5 and maybe a couple more. I had a back problem over the holidays that really screwed up the daily walk. Makes a BIG difference when you can't exercise.

OMG...holiday party last night...old friends, good time..LOST IT! This was the first time since January that I was out of control- cake, fudge, drinks, chips. I ate/drank everything I set my eyes on. I thought I was 20 years old again. Today I will forgive myself (had a blast) and have
planned my day of repentance...fruits and veggies are the main attraction and an hour of the dreaded Zumba tonight.

Wow! There are 3 of us! Wonder where DIETER27 went. My new goal is to lose a couple pounds by 2013. I was just going to maintain and set a new goal next year, but I was trying to edit my profile and SparkPeople wouldn't let me sign out until I changed my goal. Well! But, this is good...maybe I won't gain that typical 5 pounds over the holidays. Let's rock 'n roll, team!

Hi my name is Renee and Yes I did sign up with SP in January (wow almost a year ago) I have found 999 excuses as to why I "can't) lose weight...well I ran out of excuses and I am now ready to change my life for the better (mine fell apart July and have been fighting change for the last 5 months). I have been cruising the web site and came across your message and I thought it was me writing it...I can totally relate to it I'm 52 and have RA and fibro and I started going to curves for exercise and accountability. Right now (till feb 3rd I'm doing a curves eating plan) I'm just starting and have no results yet but I'm hoping by curves circuit training and SP eating I will be able to make my goal this next year....This is my first time I have ever done this so I hope to be improving with time

It seems so... I'll ask Coach Jen about it since I did not create the team, I merely agreed to be co leader, these teams are automatic so I am not sure they can be dissolved

Hello, Shoopette-

I guess you can disolve this team, however that works. There seems to be only two of us here.
I'll be hanging around on other teams. Good Luck!

I bought some tofu last week and it is still sitting in the refrigerator waiting for me to get creative. I used it about ten years ago and found it ends up tasting like whatever you mix it with. I don't think I have the courage to use it in Thanksgiving recipes...turkey-tofu dressing?
I don't think so. Okay, I can try it in half the dressing!

I have the same problem, I can't cook without nibbling, as for fat content I replace butter with apple sauce for deserts. For some recipes I use tofu instead of cheese but it's not as tasty I'm afraid

Hi, all-
Starting to plan the Thanksgiving feast. There are several calorie conscious relatives and a diabetic to consider, making menu planning easier to accommodate me. There will be more dishes to prepare, but smaller batches. I want to give everyone choices. I will have no problem reducing sugar content in my recipes...reducing fat content will be my challenge. My number one problem is that I start nibbling at 6:00 A.M. when I start all the preparation and nibble myself silly until dinner is served. I'll have to tape my mouth shut!

Hi, Di-
You keep going! You are right not to obsess over the "scale thing". I weighed myself every hour one day and it varied by three pounds through the day...for no reason. And congrats on focusing on exercise. That is the area with which I have trouble. Due to the wonderful economy, I will continue to work when I should be sipping a pina colada on a beach somewhere. We own our own business and put in long hours. Then there is my mother to look in on everyday and take care of her needs. All I can fit in is a daily 2 mile walk or some heavy duty gardening, but that is better than nothing. Before coming to SparkPeople, I was achy every morning and had trouble with my knees. My cholesterol was way high and glucose levels were threatening pre-diabetes. Latest blood test showed normal cholesterol and glucose. I now have no knee pain and get up in the morning feeling great. Most of our hurdles involve recognizing our own personal limitations and abilities and incorporating what we really can do into a routine. And a belated "Happy Birthday" to you!

Peg,
Thanks for the input. I have been here since January and I have been struggling with my weight loss due to menopause but I will not give up. I have fibro and arthritis bad but I keep pushing myself forward. I exercise at Curves, do walk away the pounds dvd, and walk our lakes. Today is my birthday and i am aiming at staying on program and eating healthy. Take care. I went out to eat on Saturday and stayed on program!

DIETER27 - I'm still here, but I think you are right...looks like this team is disintegrating. We have concentrated on our personal challenges, or have dropped out. I am here for a long time. I like tracking all my nutrients- it keeps me honest! I have reached my goal, but will set new ones in 2013. Hope to see you around- good luck!

Hello, Shoopette-
Still here and doing well. SparkPeople has become part of my daily routine. I feel so much better since I started cooking healthy and getting in some daily walking. In contrast to past "diets", I have no problem adhering to the SparkPeople principals and am confident that I can successfully continue. I have reached my personal goal weight...slow and steady, but I am sure my doctor would be happy if I lose 20 more pounds. So, instead of maintenance, I will stay on the losing course. By the way, I am thrilled with my new clothes!

Not too big on lo-cal deserts...I do not like sugar substitutes. I have become a master of portion control and tracking nutrients, so I just eat the regular treats. But I could not succeed without plain yogurt and a tablespoon of honey!

Hi All,
Stopping in to say Hi as well. One pound a month seems discouraging but glad to read you're hanging in there PEGJW111. I'm still challenged with getting fitness in. I know it will make me feel better but I've learned that without a routine, I not very good at finding the time. So, thankfully, the school year is starting soon and our family will get into a better routine - in turn, I will schedule my fitness around all events. I have maintained the weightloss - which is great. Next on my list of things to do, with the cooler weather coming, I'll be shopping for cloths. It's bitter sweet really. I wish weightloss came with a clothing allowance.

Stopping in to say "Hi". I gave myself 12 months, yes 12, to lose 30 lbs and learn how to eat right. Thank Goodness for the nutrition tracker. I now have some charts to take with me to my doctor. For now the heavy duty exercising is out. I will count on gardening during the warm months and walking during the cold months- things I enjoy. I tried some videos for a month and stressed myself out finding the time to fit them in. I did not have fun doing them. I did not lose weight faster (one pound lost that month), The only reason I felt better after they were done was because they were done...a huge sense of relief. I have taught myself to look at food differently. A salesman brought a dozen doughnuts to the office yesterday and what a saw was a can of Crisco- decided I did not want to eat a can of Crisco, opened my drawer and ate a Kashi Cherry bar, My reward for that decision was a nice glass of white wine with dinner. I know I will reach my goal by Christmas...my present to me. I will probably reset my goals in January and go for another 10 or 20 pounds. I hope this team will still be here- we can do it with SparkPeople!

After about 4 days of no exercise I am back in the swing of things. My in laws were in town last weekend (Friday-Monday) then I had to get my boys ready to go to my parents for 2 weeks so yesterday i did my workout but today I did my workout and walked on my elliptical while listening to Jillian Michaels podcast.

I've been getting in my minimum fitness minutes in but I really don't feel like it's enough. I'm going to work a little harder this week and set those minutes a little higher.
Hope you are having a wonderful weekend. I'm looking forward to designing and making t-shirts with my daughters and a couple of their friends today ...We're going to our first concert this week - very excited - I thought making t-shirts for the event would be fun.

Exercise is still the hardest challenge for me. I finally put in the Zumba dvd and tried to kill myself. I thought I could dance! After three sessions, I figured out the steps, but still can't keep up at their pace. I view this as "something is better than nothing". It does get my heart pumping....I start out in my sweats and end up in my birthday suit...quite the picture. Still walking and have caved in and bought resistance bands for strength training. Exercise has never been and never will be my cup of tea, unless I am having fun.

I have stress at work that makes staying on track challenging. I munch a lot when I am tired (sometime I think it's simply because the act of chewing keeps me awake) .. this time around though I feel a way more prepared and have healthy alternatives ready. I have 4 weeks of crazy, crazy busy so, like Dieter27, I to am going to try hard to get the exercise in, keep up with the nutrition tracker and get at least 7 hours sleep.
Have a good week ..
ps.. Dieter27 - congrats on the scale results. I'm sure you've read it (as I have) a million times, losing slowly means keeping it off.

Yay for the 1.2 loss on the scale Dieter27 but, most of all, for not giving up. :) :)
I've been doing pretty well but this past week I noticed I began to slack off especially when it came to fitness time. I got my minimum cardio time in (after going for a walk on Saturday) but not much exercise. Hoping for a better week... maybe even try getting up earlier than usual one day. Crazy overtime and stress is starting at work so I really need to keep myself in check.
Have a great day.

The past couple weeks have been pretty good but, have to admit, finding time for fitness is not as easy as when I am on vacation. Nutrition wise, I feel like I'm finally on track which has been fabulous. I am so thankful for this sight and all the support and information available.
Looking forward to the week ahead. Hoping for good weather tomorrow night so I can get out walking with my daughters. :)

I did not do well on the scale at ww meeting lastnight. I followed their plan religiously and weighed and measured my food , etc. i drink 8 to 10 glasses of water with lemon a day. i exercise 2 to 3 times a week at Curves and on off days either walk or try to incorporate other exercises such as treadmill or exercises on this site. I am losing inches and toning but it is hard to be weighed at 7pm at night . I am starving by the time I have to get weighed so I usually end up eatting a light meal before I go. Maybe that is my mistake. Anyway I refuse to give up so I will keep on going!

Although I am losing slow, I am not discouraged, because I feel so good. That was the main reason for me to join SparkPeople. Through the challenges I have learned a great deal- eating slow and Plan, Plan, Plan ahead. If I don't go to the office with my daily lunch and snacks, I am a goner! I have learned to eat slowly and taste every bite. My only shortfall is the exercising. I do walk a 20 minute one mile walk (hills) everyday and I am crazy about gardening, so I should be okay until November- then I'll have to think of something to get me through next winter...maybe Zumba- that looks like fun. I feel that I can continue my new eating habits the rest of my life.

Oh.. I'm not eliminating wheat and dairy due to weight at all. .. I've actually kept it as part of my diet to ensure I'm always getting the proper balance of protein, fats, fibre etc.
Also, I've talked to my doctor about diet many, many times. In 2006 I started getting feeling very ill (stomach and energy level). I was 240 pounds back then and lost about 70 pounds (over a 6+ month time frame) trying to figure out what it was that made me feel so cruddy. My doctor and I had many discussion about what it could be and I had a ton tests done. All tests came back perfectly fine. What I figured out though is that my system cannot handle any white flour or white sugar. I've stayed away from that and have felt pretty good since but still have the occasional episode of stomach cramps and shakes (along with some other symptoms). In the past year or two I have gained 30 pounds back .. not a huge deal in the full scheme of things .. but part of my hope to lose the weight is to also determine what foods are the trigger and how to ensure I'm getting the right nutrition as I adjust my meals. This site a fabulous tool for that. With all the reading I have been doing, it may be that eliminating wheat and dairy, even or a while, could help. I'm going to give it a try this week and see. ... At least begin the process of weaning it out of my diet. Today I bought some extra broccoli (I love broccoli), rice cakes (so I can have that with sun butter .. same as peanut butter but it's made with sunflower seeds .. for breakfast) and some corn tortillas (great for lunch time wraps or toasted and crumbled in my salad).

Why do you want to eliminate wheat? if it's because of a medical issue your doctor can help you find out which foods are good for you. If it's because you fear putting on weight, don't fret, moderation is key so you don't need to stop eating wheat altogether, just eat a sensible amount

Hello everyone! Yeah time does fly by, wow! I am still on track, or mostly. I sort of slacked off a little with meeting some of my daily goals but I realize that and with the beginning of this new week and new month, I hope to bring on my A game.
@ living right, I have also been meaning to eliminate wheat or at least reduce to a minimum. I have been yo yo-ing with it, and because I have a hard time with meeting my protein req, I sometimes find myself going back to whole wheat to get it. What are some of the things you plan on substituting for wheat?

Have a great week everyone and keep sparking!

I can't believe it's April already - Wow - seems like just yesterday I created the account in sparkpeople. :) Looking forward to learning more about healthy living and lifestyle. This month (for at least one week) I'm going to set a new goal of no dairy or wheat. I've been reading quite a bit about nutrition and believe I can still get the right amount of calcium, fibre, fat and protein even if I eliminate these two food groups. I need to test out whether or not these are the two food groups that make me feel a little ill at times but have always been concerned about removing them from my diet without creating other issues. The nutrition tracker and articles are certainly helping me feel more secure about trying it.
