Not a fan of Greek yogurt, it tastes too sour. I have tried them all and only like one. Of course I cant remember the name, I just know it is in a round container with fruit on the side.
I would go for Yoplait light anytime over greek.

I love plain Greek yogurt, which I can tolerate unlike most other dairy- milk, regular yogurt, ice cream (!). I have Greek yogurt every day with a cup of cut fruit and a tablespoon of ground flaxseed. I like the Oikos brand.

I LOVE Fage - plain, have it everyday on top my five grain oatmeal, with a good sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar, that I mix - so it's WAY more cinnamon than sugar, but it's just sweet enough. I don't care for the ones with fruit, I have homemade applesauce and golden raisins added to my oatmeal - so I'm getting my fruit servings too.

I love Greek yogurt, and it would be hard to go back to regular yogurt. I have a hard time trying to figure out how to get my daily protein in, and find that Greek yogurt has a great amount of protein in it. I really love Stonyfield Organic Oikos Greek yogurt in strawberry, blueberry, vanilla, chocolate, and still have yet to try more. I like Fage, Oikos, and Chobani as well. I like using the plain in place of sour cream.

I'VE TRIED THE GREEK LOWFAT VANILLA YOGURT A FEW TIMES AND ALWAYS GO BACK TO REGULAR LOWFAT VANILLA YOGURT. MAYBE I WOULD LIKE A DIFFERENT BRAND WITH FRUIT IN IT. WILL KEEP TRYING THEM THOUGH.

I love Green Yogurt. I usually get FAGE ff or some have small amt. of fruit on the side, like
cherry pomagranite, or strawberry. If I get the FF one, I put truvia on top and mix it in.

My other choice is the Yoplait greek Yogurt, 100 calories. WW recommends it and it is delicious!! I love the Strawberry and the Peach the best.

I never buy the regular yogurt since I started LOVING the Greek.

Greek yogurt and regular yogurt taste totally different. I think a better substitute for Greek yogurt would be sour cream.

I have recently discovered Greek yogurt. I, too, use it in many ways. It is extremely versatile.
I add many things, fruit, nuts, vanilla and apple or pumpkin pie spice. Sometimes I add a bit of soy protein, and the list goes on... It is my favorite substitute for sour cream also. emoticon

Greek Yogurt, yum! It has so much protein that I make that my lunch with a little bit of grape-nut-like cereal for added crunch. I prefer the Chobani brand, but there are a lot of wonderful brands out there. I also love the plain non-fat to use in place of sour cream. You can also eat some by flavoring it yourself. It has really increased my love of yogurt.

Love greek yogurt and agree with so many of the preferences stated here. If a person has time, and only plain regular yogurt on hand, you can strain the regular yogurt which removes the liquid whey and the consistency remaining is more like greek yogurt...that is if you are subbing in a recipe. One caution with this is if the reg yogurt you're straining is a fat free sometimes they have added something like gelatin and it doesn't separate the same...found this out by trial and error.

I love the Fage' greek yogurt!! I get the ff and add berries or other fruit to it or truvia instead.
I also get the one that has fruit on the side. Presently I have enjoyed the cherry pomegranite on the side or the blueberry (just small amount) to the side. I never buy regular lowfat yogurt since I tried this brand. Trader Joe's is a little cheaper if you have one near you and buy 4 a week or one large ff one, like I do. This is my treat at least 4x a week.

I tried the Oikos Greek yogurt in strawberry and thought it was pretty good. Today I tried the honey one and could not stand the taste or smell. Even tried it in my smoothie and could not handle it. My daughter liked the smoothie but not the yogurt. I will try the blueberry tomorrow. I think I will stick with Yoplait Light for eating and my smoothies and try the greek in recipes that call for it. Thanks to all!

I didn't so much care for greek yogurt at first, but I tried a few different brands. I think my favorite thus far is chobani. Greek yogurt is a tad more expensive, but i feel fuller after eating it then I did eating regular yogurt. Good luck!

I just tried the Yoplait 2X Protein Greek yogurt and was pleasantly surprised. I like it. A bit pricy so I probably won't buy it unless it is on sale, but a nice alternative to eggs for breakfast.

I didn't care much for Greek yogurt at first either. Due to the high protein content I really wanted too find one that I liked. I ended up buying one of every brand at the store (six!) and realized that there was quite a diffence between brands, but I did find two that I liked. Don't give up yet, Michelle emoticon

Michelle, If you want to try another Greek yogurt, you might check out Chobani Low Fat. It is my favorite one. It is all natural and sweetened with evaporated cane juice and the package states the milk used is from cows not treated with growth hormones. The sugars are a little high but they are high in all yogurts, except the low carb ones which are pretty tasteless to me. This Chobani is a fruit on the bottom type and comes in yummy flavors (Mango, Pomegranate, Blood Orange, Honey, the usual Strawberry, Blueberry, etc. and, of course, plain). I should tell you that the Pomegranate has the little seeds in it. I noticed on the container I ate for breakfast this morning that they do have a website: www.chobani.com if you want to check it out. Good luck finding a Greek you like!

Thanks for clarifying. I have only tried one and did not like the taste. I will give it another try and definitely try it in some of the recipes mentioned on Spark People. I'm sure it will be great in food. Thanks!!!

I agree that you might have to make some adjustment due to the thicker consistency of the Greek yogurt. The first time I tasted Greek yogurt, I didn't like the taste or the consistency. I know that was because I had always eaten regular yogurt in the past. Now I truly prefer it to regular yogurt. The only drawback is that it is significantly more expensive then regular. I am on a retiree's budget but I would rather cut back on something else then give up my Greek yogurt. emoticon

I don't know if there is any difference in recipes (other than flavor), but my husband loves the Greek yogurts. He didn't care for the regular ones that I used to buy, but once I started getting the Greek ones, I cannot keep him out of them. But he does prefer tangier flavors while I prefer sweet flavors.

Greek yogurt is a lot thicker so depending on what you are making, you might have to adjust recipe for consistency. Greek yogurt also has about twice as much protein as regular, so from a nutrition standpoint I think Greek would be a better choice.

greek yogurt is thicker and slightly tangy....regular unflavored would probably be ok .... but greek yogurt beats regular hands down.

I have found several recipes that call for Greek yogurt. Can I substitute regular light yogurt? What would be the difference or benefit for the Greek yogurt? Thanks!! I recently purchased the cookbook. I have prepared just one recipe so far, but looking forward to trying several. Thanks!
