I am going to watch this thread because I am hit or miss. I agree with Chris about the aroma but I was still hit or miss.

watermelon should be heavy for size and make a hollow sound when thumped. cantaloupes and honey dews should be free of any defects slightly soft near the stem for ripeness and give off a faint aroma, if it is hard it will not be ripe. These are my experience with picking mellons

Looking for some advise on picking out melons. I am very hit or miss with my cantaloupe, honeydew and watermelon selection. Figured this was the best place for some advise on the subject.
