I haven't looked at the recipe yet. It appears you made some good alterations. My first thought when I red a couple of comments on chili sauce being bland was that in New Orleans they always have a bottle of that hot sauce available. Perhaps using more intense spices such as creole, or adding a little hot pepper might give it the kick you desire.

I made this also. I thought the same thing about the chili sauce. It was my first ime using it but it just tastes like ketchup. I changed it up some by using the Rotel diced tomatoes with the green chilis and adding a little more cayenne. We like a little spice. I much preferred it the second day. I will probably make it again but I'm not sure about adding the chili sauce. Not sure exactly what it was supposed to accomplish. I'm hoping others have great ideas about this recipe.
