Glad to hear you are on the mend Bama. Take it easy for now and when the doctor gives you the green light you can go for it!

It is a wise choice to not dislodge the clot and wait before increasing exercise. When you have healed you can safely increase activity. For now watching what you eat is most important. You'll get there!

On August 18, 2013, I found out that I had a blood clot, due to a side effect from some meds I was taking, in my left leg. For a while I have been going through the motions of wanting to lose weight and thinking that it will automatically fall off. But I know now, that it has to be more than just a want. I really have to do the work if I want the change and fight for my life.

I am actually doing the work and I have the support. This is new. My doctor wants me to wait a couple of weeks before I turn up the exercise because of the blood clot. So, I must listen.

For the first time ever I worked out my frustration and stress rather than eating, I feel like that was a huge break through. After I worked out I didn't feel guilty, I felt great. Hoping to recognize the stress and work it out every time. emoticon

I have a rebounder. They are awesome, but until I lose a lot more belly fat it is difficult to do. MY giant belly bounces with every jump. That can't be good. LOL Other than that, I think it is an awesome work out.

I go to Zumba two nights a week, I may not work out as fast or step as high as some of the athletic ladies, but I know I put forth a ton more effort than some of the ladies that are a lot thinner and a lot younger. emoticon

I have three kick boxing DVD's and enjoy them all, but I may check out the WW one too. Thanks!

I pulled out my rebounder and started using it again. A spark friend had been talking about hers and the benefits....so it motivated me to try it again.

yeah its a white box that says weight watchers on the top and has a woman with boxing gloves on the front. The set was 18.97 and it came with the DVD (3 levels) and the weighted gloves & Exercise tracker. Its a great deal. I also bought the yoga set and I love that too. The other one they have is a belly/butt/thigh buster and comes with an exercise ball... that will be next LOL

LOL... I seriously had to laugh at that, poor sister, but yay for yummy dog treats! LOL

The recipe is adapted from pinterest

4 cups quick oats
1/2 cup creamy PB (melted)
1/2 cup honey
1 tbs almond slivers

I also added some bittersweet mini chocolate chips (2 Tbs), but the add in options are endless!

First put all dry ingredients in a bowl
then add honey, mix well to make sure everything is coated
Then add melted PB, again mix well

The pinterest recipe said these are bake/no bake option, but all the reviews said they were better baked, so I baked them! LOL 25 minutes @350

I recommend letting them cool completely and even in the fridge so they really stick together before eating. You can also add more PB or honey to make them adhere better, but as the recipe is it made 25 bars (in a 9X13 pan) at 71 calories each :) Super yummy!

you could add flaxseed, different nuts, dried fruit. raisins, yogurt... really whatever you feel like. But they are yummy!

post the recipe here (or link to it)!!!

Reminds me of a funny story:
I made healthy dog treats for my dogs a few years back. Wheat germ and stuff - no sugar. I rolled them out and used cookie cutters to make the cookies.

Dogs loved them. I put them in a clear container on the counter with lid to keep them fresh.

Twin Sister stopped by the house while we were out and left a not - "Something is wrong with these cookies - they taste bad"

I have been watching Coach Nichol's videos with the resistance bands and am giving it a try - I don't count those minutes because I'm not very good at some of the stuff. She makes it look so easy and even talking through all never gets out of breath, I can't keep up the pace yet.

My kids made the wife and I buy a Wii. After they taught us how to make our 60+ year-old bodies do the Wii Sports and Fitness tests, we both got into it! Wife is doing the Wii-Zumba and I'm doing the Wii Sports Resort. I'm getting in 10-15 minutes every morning, then another 15-20 minutes in the evening. Sweaty Fun!

Aerobics step routine sounds like fun. Unfortunately for me - the recreational room with TV/DVD only has a 7ft ceiling which makes following those routines painful on the fingers (hit the ceiling). The best room for me is our laundry room (really a hallway with a washer and dryer along one wall) because it has a 8 ft ceiling and cement floors. I start jumping anywhere else in the house and things will start falling off the walls!

I just got an old school "step" aerobics DVD and a step. I tried it once a while back, but I am committed to mastering it. For me this is a tough workout. Can you say "sweat fest?"

I asked for 2-3 folks on SP to come forward and let me email them daily for accountability. Each day I email them the final results from my prior day and my goals for the current day.

I found a friend at work who helps me stay accountable at lunch. We weigh in on Fridays and during the week can talk about best options for lunch for the day. Also bounce our food challenges off one another. When people bring in cookies, candy, donuts or such we are able to offer each other encouragement to resist the temptation and make better choices. Wish we had started this sooner.

I am so guilty of not getting enough sleep. I just don't have enough disciplne to go to bed decent hour.

Someday I would like to try yoga, but I think it will be easier, when I am thinner.

Good for you both to take on actions that will improve your health!

I'm really woring on getting some quality sleep at night. My usual is 4:30 hours to 6 hours. Last night I did the count-backwards exercise. Went to bed according to the result: slept from 10pm to 7am. Woke up feeling totally rested, for once!
Now let's see what this day has to offer!

Applebees for lunch today. No cheesesticks. 7oz steak with 2 sides of broccoli - less than 500 calories. A big woohoo and one more unavoidable dangerous lunches out of the way.

I joined an exercise class this week. My friend said it was Zumba, but it was more hip-hop, club type music. I LOVED it. We danced hard and it was a blast. Between songs the instructor had us go to exercise stations and we had to do squats, situps or another exercise until the next song started. It was an awesome workout. I can't wait until next week. The class was free, but I told the young lady that she needed a tip jar. Her class is worth it. This old lady shook her booty off, but I kept up with the 20 something girls around me. emoticon I've still got IT! LOL

PS good job ladies, keep it going!!!

I have changed two major things. First of all I just don't try to burn tons of calories in hopes to lose 2 pounds a week. There are times when I would work out 2 hours a day 7 times a week. It isn't maintainable and the quality of your life stinks. Now have finally blossom into developing a consistent plan where I am on the elliptical for 45 minutes 4 times a week (watching one of my favorite TV shows) then I use a mix of free weights and body strength training exercises the other 3 days. This way I am not over do it with cardio and I am toning up. My other change is that I have introduce consistent chocolate to my diet in hopes of reducing cravings of sweet foods which me leads into binging eating. I eat two piece of ghirardelli chocolates squares a day and that has kept cravings at bay. I haven't gone off the wagon and devoured the whole bag and I hope I can keep this positive change going. For me I feel like dieting/eating healthy mirrors saving money. You have to have a plan/budget. When things are going well you can reward yourself, but don't over spend. No one wants debt or to gain weight. I guess it is all about maturing and making the best decision for a well rounded happy life.

Good job Joan! Speed will come with time. I have to make sure I am pushing myself and not just doing time on the treadmill. I laugh now, but when I first started working out, my exercise was the few stretches most folks do after they work out. I would stretch this and that for 30 minutes and was really excited about it.I would pat myself on the back and head for home. At that point I was always alone in the gym. (We have a staff gym where I work and it not too many folks take advantage of it.) The light bulb moment was when another lady bigger than my self came in and actually used the treadmill and RAN on it! When she left the gym, she was SWEATING! When she left I laughed out loud at my silly "exercise" routine.I started out slow, but eventually I was working out not just stretching out. LOL Now when I leave the gym, I am sweaty and tired! SWEAT is fat crying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep up the good work! You are making progress! emoticon

I am doing a very little tiny bit of "jogging" (probably not techically--I'm only slightly over 4 mph). For me, however, that's a big improvement considering that a year ago I could hardly manage 3 mph.

We bought a Soda-Stream. Best investment ever!! All of their diet sodas taste Better than their name brand counterparts. And they are just a little bit better for you.
