Was on BB.Com checking out recipes-they have really have branched out-lots of options!
I was really impressed! Mojo slowly returning. Next week we will start staying open late at
work on Tues. which means I will have Friday off! Some of my stress has lightened, so a littler easier staying on track. I've has too much cortisol for too long, but starting to see a light
in the tunnel...

I am looking up "Rewired" on BB.com -- sounds great! Great to hear you are getting the mojo back Linda!

I am just a chaotic ball of change. Went to visit my folks 2 weeks ago, managed to MAINTAIN which is nothing short of miraculous when there were 2 pies, 3 birthday cakes, a whole bowl of assorted BAGS of candy, chips, and food EVERYWHERE. I cannot walk into my parents kitchen without being tempted by something that's out in the open.
I wanted to keep weight training, and DID manage 3 days of body weight training and small (milk jugs of water, etc) weights when I could. Something is definitely better than nothing.
I mostly relied on my FitBit and told myself, if I was not weight training fully, I'd have to make sure I got in at least 10k of steps. This meant I had to walk EVERYWHERE in town. To the coffee shop, restaurant, grocery store... everywhere.
Again, managed to maintain and that's the only reason why.

Now I'm living in another city from my own, with just 2 suitcases worth of stuff (wish I had packed more WARM clothes) and continuing to desperately try to keep up with fitness when I have a million other things going on. Again, mostly relying on my fitbit, but with all the work I have, its hard to even get in the 10k steps when I *have* to walk everywhere unless I take the bus. I try to get off the bus early and force myself to walk more-- can't always walk, because I can't show up at meetings and such all sweaty. I realize that I desperately need to work out a different sleeping schedule so that I can fit more in before working hours.

Signed up for BB.Coms Rewirded.Got fridge last night-unfortunately,now I've got to wait on the
Plumber-problem with the pipes,so water is off...such a time waster...did manage to get to the
gym-limited time so used the rowing machine mostly. I like the Rewired concept-think it will be a
good program for me.

I started the 30 day plank challenge this week-I understand the hassle with getting to the gym...
today is my short day,but my fridge crashed & I've got to wait for the new one this afternoon-on
the plus side-it should encourage me to restock healthy.Planning to do Zumba tomorrow. Need
to get back to BB,com. Slowly getting things back on track-baby steps.Oh! Cool thing! The
team my son was on came in 60th out of about 400 other teams at the local Mud Run! It was
their 1rst time entering-not bad-Go Firefighters!

Well, I'm almost through week 8 of Live Fit and between some travel and a change of living arrangements, I have some challenges ahead to keep up with weight training. I printed out the next 3 weeks of the schedule and have also made lists of body weight exercises for each muscle category. My goal for the next few weeks is to keep on track with which muscle groups to work on and do 3 sets of at least 5 different exercises a day (with one 'rest'/fudge day per week). I will also up my Fitbit steps goal as I will likely have MUCH more opportunity for walking.
crossing fingers I can keep in the groove until I get a gym day again!

Yes, Brenda, you should be increasing weights. The first two weeks you were supposed to be lifting 60% of your maximum (that is, 60% of the amount of weight you could only push ONCE, if you had to). The 3rd and 4th weeks you are supposed to lift 80% of that maximum for each lift. In Phase 2, you should be doing 85% of the max.
Keep in mind, you max is ALSO changing as you get stronger. As a rule, I would try to add a TINY amount each week if I wasn't failing on the final set the week before. That may mean only adding my little 1.5 pound wrist weights when I'm lifting something under 20#, but I'd add SOMETHING (5-10 percent) each week, in addition to changing the amounts for the percentages.

Weeks 1 and 2 were 3x12 and Week 3 sets are 3x10. Is the thought that you are increasing weight since you are doing fewer reps in each set?

I'm starting Week 3 tonight. emoticon

I'm also on Day 3 of avoiding sugar. I'm not going crazy and eliminating anything that has sugar in the ingredients list, but I'm not adding natural or artificial sweeteners. Overall, I'm just cleaning it up!

It's going to be a long trip for me-my work out buddy had 2 big health issues & I kept
finding excuses, plus working like 12 hour days-I haven't been happy with myself either.
When I'm stressed with no outlet I eat-I've undone most of the good changes I'd made!
So...gonna try again to recommit. Slowly, getting back on track with food-S-L-O-W-L-E-Y!
Got to start somewhere ,right? That said, confession made-here we go again...

yep Pam! Plus having gone through it once, we don't have to learn new exercises or food. I did find that I had to review the food plan, because I was "fudging" it too much. Even after doing circuit training at the gym 3-4 times a week for a month, I found week five REALLY challenging (which hadn't been the case when I started at week 1 and done the whole program straight).
Last night I was exhausted, slept 10 hours and having groan worthy soreness whenever I move. So doing something right HAHAHA.

Week 5 is a great place to jump back in. I think I will do the same. Life has gotten really busy the past 2 months and that always means that the exercise and consequently my weight suffer. The LiveFit routine is at least something I don't have to think about, just bring it up and get it done!

As for me, I finally had the "click" where my motivation switch turned on. I jumped into LiveFit week 5. I may need to modify some workout days but determined to keep on track with food for the duration. Roomie is going out of town for 3 weeks, so that will help in many ways.

Hope you all are kicking some tail!

sorry I missed your post NC7B. I wish Kristin was still here, she had some issues with plyo. You can check the Alternates/Substitutions Thread down in the Help!/Support forum in our team boards. hope you find something there. If not, I'd say you could just duplicate week 8 and then an extra week 11 instead of 9/10.

After the first time I completed the program, I started back to do weeks 7-12 again. Injured myself and then had a long trip, so I didn't get through all 5 weeks the 2nd time. Since then, I've tried a few different programs for "maintenance" or to just take a break from Live Fit. Labrada, another program by Jamie, plain old circuits at the gym, etc. with various success and/interest.
Right now I'm trying to focus on daily activity with 2-3 time weight training before I go back into hard core Live Fit.

Hi all! I too, have been MIA...my work out buddy had to have appendix out, then she had to have
rotator cuff surgery,so we haven't been hitting our usual Sat.am work outs. It's been so COLD
that poor dog hasn't gotten walks, and I hurt knee was told to back off on the exercise-even my laptop quit! I'm practically back where I started & feeling disgusted. I was doing really well before all this-then my mom got sick-when she quit eating-Istarted eating for 2. AAAAGGGHH!
Far too many excuses!!! My mom is doing better, got a new laptop, weather better, friend better-
soooooooo....time for me to get started...begin again. Worked out yesterday, but had to cut
back a little...I'm wearing the clothes I was going to give away-so unacceptable! As that old

Helloooooooo team!

I'm finally back from my 6 week vacation. I worked out some and mostly played adventure sports around Australia and New Zealand. Enough that I barely gained - maybe 2 pounds (trust me, from the last 2 holiday seasons, I know I can easily gain 6-10 pounds that fast).

So now I'm back to tracking, back to eating as well as I can (I'm so cash poor, I can't go grocery shopping, so whatever was in my freezer and cupboards plus my roommate says to eat his food until its gone).
So far, pretty clean- though in my vow to NOT drink for at least 12 days (my next party invitation), I did find a small bag of tootsie rolls and devoured them instead of having wine with my roomie. Stayed inside my goals, but not a great response.
Day 2 should be easier.

As for workouts, I have to go find out if my gym membership lapsed. I tried to pay before I left, but they didn't have a record that my membership was up for renewal (it should have been in early February). Now I can't pay if I go in and they find out it is... I still never received a renewal notice, so crossing fingers.

I was doing some reading on subcutaneous fat, which I have in the typical area of my lower belly but also in my back. No matter how tone I get, that back fat won't really budge either.
So, I am going to try something different for at least a few weeks, before I go headfirst into LiveFit again.
Still SOME weight training (2-3 times a week), daily walking, clean eating, and reduced calories. I love LiveFit though and weight lifting more, so I know I will come back to it eventually.
We'll see.

Hope everyone is plugging along at some plan and check in soon!

Thanks Linda, but it didn't last long. It has taken until about 2 days ago to get well. Today I went for a really long hike and got a little bit of ST in this evening. I hope to get back to the Eason workouts this weekend. I don't even remember where I was, so I'll probably just start with week 3.

Glad the pooch is okay.

The fact that you are still at it says a lot! I didn't make to zumba-thought the dog had eaten a

LFF - That trip sounds amazing! Well worth getting a little behind on training and sounds like you'll get in some great functional fitness workouts.

Mary - Are you doing the food program too? Hope you get that weight nose dive! LOL

Linda - So sorry to hear about your fall. Yowch! But, it sounds like you have bouced back. Glad the trainer was so helpful.

I've caught one of a variety of forms of crud that are going around here. Not as bad as the flu, but I've had a sore throat/cough and cold for 4 days now. Ugh. So, I've been going through the motions on my workouts this week, but they haven't been anything stellar.

LFF- Sorry you also had to deal... I did meet with the trainer on Friday-Guy was awesome! I
would highly recommend it to anyone! Found out a lot I didn't know & found I was doing a lot
of things wrong! For example,1 machine I had totally ignored because it seemed too girly &
the movements kind of embarrassing (inner/outer leg machine) -turns out with my knee injuries,
it is the one I need most...I also found out I wasn't doing enough reps, not resting enough in
between & not lifting heavy enough( & I was doing what I'd been told)! Now I am so sore I can
barely move!!! Could only manage taking dog to walk yesterday! Planning to take Zumba today
(the instructor calls it Zumba on Crack-have to agree-it's wicked)!soooooo sore-wish this old
lady luck!

ow! sorry to hear Linda -- I hope you're feeling better soon.

my week was not stellar either. Stress of impending hard deadline (I leave 2 weeks from today) made it difficult to choose workouts over work or seeing friends who I needed to catch up with since the LAST trip and that I won't see again until April.

Was so grateful to get the the gym even once. Today I had plans cancel, so easily getting in my workout and tomorrow I'm going to try to sneak it in before my friends drag me out for Super Bowl. I'll need the momentum for next week!

Keep on Sparking team!

Sounds like everyone is doing great. All my plans for the week have slid by the wayside...at
work we have stools with rollers in the rooms-at the beginning of the week,I went to sit & missed the stool-serious hit to my neck & head (not your normal fall & hop up)so,I'm laying
low for the weekend...feel lost.Planning to meet with the trainer next Friday and then take it from there...

First day of week 5!
Day 29 and feeling stronger and more determined to complete the entire program.
I am fortunate that right now I have been able to get to the gym just about every day.
I have increased the weight level and increasing stamina.
Now waiting to see the scale take a nose dive!!

Great to hear Pam.
Linda, I look forward to hearing about your training appointment this week.

Well, I had written a long response a couple days ago and Spark lost it...

so the highlights...
I'm still working JE's LiveFit, but I am jumping a week ahead and modifying as I only have (now) 3 more weeks at home. After that, I"m going on an extensive vacation to Australia and New Zealand. I'll have to pick up somewhere new when I get back. Hoping the time I've been spending so far and coming up put me in good enough shape to do all the things I want to do while I'm there: canyoning, hiking, climbing, kayaking, snorkeling, and diving... Hoping what I do there also keeps me in reasonable shape so I don't lose the forward progress I've made so far.
Since Jan 1st, I've lost about 5 pounds. In the 2 weeks I've been tracking inches and BF, I lost 3 1/2 inches and 1.6% body fat.
I know its unlikely I will make my original April 1 goals without consistent weight training, but hoping not to start all over again when I get back at the end of March.

"Thoroughly worked out" was an understatement. LOL The hike ended up being 9.25 miles, lots of vertical feet as well. I had on a 15-20 lb pack, and being bent forward on the uphill so much worked my gluts and hamstrings in ways they haven't been worked in a long time.

So, I'm running a day behind on the workouts. But I did get back into full swing last night.

Had a legs workout scheduled for today - 1st day of week 3. I went through the motions, but lower the weights. I've got a fairly strenuous 8 mile hike, that will include some rock scrambling, scheduled for tomorrow, so it didn't made sense to trash my legs today. LOL

Between the 2 things they will be thoroughly worked out this week though.

Thanks for the support guys!

LFF- lifting heavy is awesome. I have never squatted that low though- I am not sure I would have been able to figure out how to get up and out of that situation!

Pam- I love the days off from lifting- especially when I may have pushed it just a tad too hard. I like Jamie's meat loaf muffins, but I just haven't cooked recently. I have never tried venison before..not that there is anything wrong with deer, its just not me.

Linda- love zumba, and zumba on a crazy level had to be a good work out!

So, I am doing legs today. I didn't think I squatted too much weight last week, but seeing as I was sore until Friday, I may have to tweak what I do..I just know doing less doesn't feel like quite as much of a work out.

And, I have decided one week back at the drawing board...may take a little more time to see the scale actually start to move. I am feeling pretty good, so now I just have to keep it all going. I am thinking this week that I may try non- protein shake protein smoothies with greek yogurt and stuff..If I can get frisky and to the gym.

Hope Monday is treating everyone good!

Thanks, LFF - My muscles are certainly enjoying my 3 days off from lifting. emoticon I got pretty sore and tired by Saturday. I love the meatloaf muffins too. Haven't made them in a while, I should do that. They are wonderful high protein snacks.

Even though I've spent my life in a hunting culture, and don't have a problem with it - I'm not a venison eater, I have this weird thing about eating meats that make me envision the actual animal. The only thing that keeps me from being a vegetarian is the fact that a lifetime of conditioning doesn't make me visualize a cow when I eat a steak from the market. If I think about the fact that I'm eating muscle it makes it a no go. emoticon

Jen - there are a lot of things that can make the scale misbehave. If you are only weighing once a week like many folks recommend, you may have just picked a bad day for it. Give yourself time to create a routine. (And, IMHO, there is nothing wrong with getting on the scale a few times a week - see if it makes a difference to have not lifted the day before, or on days after you've kept the sodium really low - get to know how your body reacts to things.)

Pam, congrats on the increases in strength! one of my favorite things about weight training. I love a few of the LiveFit recipes too... especially the meatloaf muffins (if you ever have a chance to make them with venison they are IN.CREDIBLE!)
Jen, sorry you ended the week on a low-- don't forget, weight training is building muscle, so you won't necessarily see huge losses AT FIRST. Keep at it! Also, I think the part of LiveFit (which you can apply to any new WT program if you've had significant time off) is the first two weeks is 65% of maximum weight (lift only 65% of whatever weight you could lift once, but no more). Then in weeks 3 & 4, you up to 80-85%.
Shoot, today I had a little incidence, where I was lifting pretty heavy (for just being back) and squatted a little TOO low, and couldn't get back up and fell on my butt. Had to carefully duck my head under the barbell so I could place it down on the floor. Yikes! No one around, since I've been doing workouts at home.

Sam, fruit definitely counts as a carb (but not a starchy carb). Beans are usually protein and carb. hope that helps.

Day 1 of week 2 tonight - back/biceps. When I looked back at tracking history on the site, I've increased my weight significantly since the last time I did this program. I got lots of bike miles on my off days and am downhill skiing at least once a week too. So, I'm feeling really good about things.

So no gym yesterday- got out way to late, so upper body and cardio today after work- clothes and shoes ready and waiting...I am still crazy sore from legs- maybe the lesson is lift heavy...just not that heavy after a long period of sloth!

I think fruit may count as a carb, but I am unsure. i always though beans were some sort of veggie/carb, but,a gain, a little unsure.

I have gotten back up on the horse too. I am currently doing a strength program from Nia Shanks (one of the girls gone strong). Its only 4 days a week, so I can handle that for now. Once a workout plan has me at 6 days a week..I just can't seem to keep it up. I did lower body and a 2 mile run- I feel like jello, but I'm ready to go to the gym today if I get out of my meeting early enough.

I am in need of some clarification. Does fruit count as a carb on this program? It is not listed under carb, so that is why I'm confused. Also, what about beans, are they a veg, carb, or protein? I saw it listed in multiple categories.

Week 1 is in the books, it's been nice to have a few days off - I was pretty sore. Never pays to be a slug and I was during the holidays.

The food plan seems to be something that is fairly generic and used across many of the plans on the site. I'm with you, I need some creativity and variation in my food. There are a couple recipes on her plan that I like though.

Great to see you back Pam! I had tried a couple other programs too (even Jamie's Fat Loss plan) and just didn't get into them the same. I like the rhythm of this one and I need the structure.
Food-wise I mostly follow the 'approved' food list and eat clean rather than using her definitions of Small Meals. I like a little variety.
Here's to a great 2014!

I started the program again this week. I tried out a couple other ST programs in 2013, they weren't bad, but they weren't as good either. I don't use the nutrition program, but I think she has the best ST program around.

I had really slacked off on the lifting in December and dang! I'm sore!

Thanks for the well wishes about my mom.

Great to see you all! Its a comfort to me to be back on Spark and tracking. Again, embracing the things I can control. I already feel so much better just from drinking my water again. Food has been a bit bumpy since catching up with friends that I haven't seen for 6 or more weeks often means eating out or at a bar. Still not doing too bad- think I have lost at least 2 lbs from December.

Finished Week 1 of LiveFit again and sore, sore SORE! forgot the BCAAs at first, but either way- just out of condition so fighting my way back. Glad I was able to work out at home this week (roommate is likely moving our gym equipment out of our living room to make room for a bunch of event supplies for a fundraiser he is throwing in February). So back to the gym by this weekend.

Hope you all are plugging away and making progress on improving healthy habits.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I haven't started a new workout program yet but I am looking for one. I'm torn between Live Fit and a program from girls gone strong. But I haven't done anything for probably a month and I need to get back on track. At least getting back on spark is a good step. I agree this is our year. I will start checking in with work out hopefully tomorrow or the next day. Have a good night ladies!

well, started LiveFit again this weekend. None too soon. pulled up my final stats post and I have actually gained back all the weight I lost back in 2012. deeeeepressing.

on the plus side, I have NOT gained back all the inches. So I still retain some muscle (and since I am able to do all the pushups, which I could NOT do when I first started, I have also retained some strength).

I am trying to find peace for this year. Having my mom diagnosed with Stage IIIc cancer has definitely thrown off my plans. Sticking to my workouts and eating regimen are two of the few things that don't need to change. I am embracing the things I know I can control, so this will be one of them.

I hope the year is amazing for all of you!

Hey all! Finally feeling a little surge of hope of getting back on track...my gym membership
somehow got messed up at work, but hopefully I've got it straightened out & have a week off
so I can destress...and for me-tomorrow is Christmas! Son had to work,so we postponed it-
going to get up early so I can cook-not going to heavy-keeping it in the zone!

Hellooooo team!

I know... been totally MIA since I arrived at my parents. Stressful with mom's health issues, juggling work (half my friends & family think I'm 'on vacation' and half of them seem to think my work just magically gets done), juggling stressed sisters, and caretaking both parents ...
anyway, I'm trying to be as healthy as I can -- I made my healthy white chicken chili recipe tonight and TRYING to drink water and stay away from the holiday goodies as best I can. Also, trying to fit in SOME activity every couple days. Remember, last year I gained 6 lbs when I came home.
So fighting it this year. fortunately, with my mom's surgery- she's not opening a bottle of wine every night. Unfortunately, the added stress and pressure on me is making it difficult to not think about drinking. Still, think I'm doing better than last year. Hoping once my nieces and nephews are here, I can get out and active more.

Hope your holiday season is going well. Will have to catch up with your posts over the next few days...

xxoo

That's great to hear Linda. Hope you are going to get the warm up that is coming. I can't wait!

Planned ST tonight, but eh, I am wiped out. We'll see. May be the pasta talking. Thank goodness we only eat it about once a month. Oh my, was it ever good!
