Cardio is the only thing good on an empty stomach. You have to get a protein serving and a slow digesting carb in for your pre-workout meal an hour before your lift. It will help with endurance, and energy during your workout. A protein shake with blended fruit, or if you don't have much time try a RTD (ready to drink) protein shake and a banana about 15 minutes before you leave. I used to skip the pre-workout meal first thing in the morning also, and yes I got through the workout just fine but the results come slow.
I make it through too - probably still fueled from last night's meals.I think i should try something small - i have read so much about needed to fuel bf a workout so you don't lose muscle mass.
I usually mix a scoop of protein powder with powerade zero (the orange is good with vanilla protein powder) and I drink half before I workout and the half when I am done working out!

I should but I rarely do. Im up at 5 and working out by 5:10-5:20. I have eaten a small pumpkin protein square before my workouts. It was enough substance but not enough to make me feel yucky. Maybe try something really small. A handful of almonds or a piece of toast?
I am able to make it through the workouts on an empty stomach. I do always drink a scoop of my recovery drink during weights though.

I get up at 5am to drive to the gym and am working out by 5:45.... Should I eat something before I workout? I'm afraid I will be too sluggish and nauseated. I am on the 3rd week so no cardio - how will I be able to eat then do cardio, blech.
How is it working for you? What do you eat before you workout? How long do you wait?
